Alternatively (in view) i could iterate while displaying the content, so i ends up only accessing the database 2 times instead of 3 times. Any win win solution / best practice to this kind of problem ?

  • How can I bind events to strongly typed datasets of different types?

    My application contains several forms which consist of a strongly typed datagridview, a strongly typed bindingsource, and a strongly typed table adapter. I am using some code in each form to update the database whenever the user leaves the current row, shifts focus away from the datagrid or the form, or closes the form. This code is the same in each case, so I want to make a subclass of form, from which all of these forms can inherit. But the strongly typed data objects all inherit from component, which doesn't expose the events I want to bind to or the methods I want to invoke. The only way I can see of gaining access to the events is to use: Type(string Name).GetEvent(string EventName).AddEventHandler(object Target,Delegate Handler) Similarly, I want to call the Update method of the strongly typed table adapter, and am using Type(string Name).GetMethod(String name, Type[] params).Invoke(object target, object[] params). It works ok, but it seems very heavy handed. Is there a better way?   • When is it good to start using project management applications?

    Hello, I was wondering, when is the right time or the correct project size to start using project management applications ( like Redmine or Trac ). I have a serious project, for now it's only me developing, but I use redmine to set my project versions, issues, and estimations. I think it's a good idea, because you never know when somebody else is going to join the team, and also allows me to organize myself effectively. I ask this question because I was Teaching Assistant at my university for one year in a row for a course, and I got questions about this very very often. While I'm a believer of the KISS principle, I think that learning to use this tools early is a win-win most of the time. I really believe that we can avoid this question to become argumentative, and that there's somewhat of a consensus about this issue, which I consider quite important in todays software development world. So, when is the right time ? what is the correct project/team size ?

  • pdftk issue after updating Ubuntu from 9.04 to 9.10

    We upgraded our server to 9.10 from 9.04 the other day, and it all went well except for one rather important program. We're using pdftk to automatically generate filled out pdf forms. On 9.04, it worked just fine. After updating to 9.10, the pdf forms would no longer be filled out - they'd just be empty. I discovered that if I try to create an fdf file via pdftk from my PDF form, it just creates an empty fdf with no fields. On windows, pdftk generates the fdf file just fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hi all, My app Windows forms .NET in Win XP copy files pdfs in shared network folder in a server win 2003. Admin user in Win2003 detects some corrupt files pdfs, in that shared folder. I want check if a fileis copied right in shared folder Andre Krijen says me the best way is to create a MD5Hash of original file. When the file is copied, verify the MD5Hash file of the copied one with the original one. I have big pdf files. apply md5 hash about big file, any performance problem ?? If I only check (without generate md5 hash) Length of files (original and copied) ?? Thanks in advanced.

  • Can't edit a specific document in Word 2007

    I have a document in Word 2007 that seems to be read only. There are forms in the document that I can type in, but I can't edit or reformat the rest of the document. There is probably a setting somewhere I can flip to make it editable again but I can't find it for the life of me. FOLLOW UP: The "Protect Document" button only had "Unrestricted Access" checked, this was one of the first things I checked. However, when I tried checking "Restrict Formatting and Editing" it brought up the Restrict Formatting and Editing sidebar, which stated: This document is protected from unintentional editing. You may only fill in forms in this region. With a stop protection button on the bottom, which of course solved the problem. I think that menu item just has a bad name, it should be "Restrict Formatting and Editing Options or Settings"

  • where should I put the EF entity and data annotations in asp.net mvc + entity framework project

    So I have a DataEntity class generated by EntityFramework4 for my sqlexpress08 database. This data context is exposed via a WCF Data Service/Odata to silverlight and win forms clients. Should the data entities + edmx file (generated by EF4) go in a separate class library? The problem here then is I would specify data annotations for a few entities and then some of them would require specific MVC attributes (like CompareAttribute) so the class library would also reference mvc dlls. There also happen to be entity users which will be encapsulated or wrapped into an IIdentity in the website. So its pretty tied to the mvc website. Or Should it maybe go in a Base folder in the mvc project itself? Mostly the website is data driven around the database, like approve users, change global settings etc. The real business happens in the silverlight and win forms apps. Im using mvc3 rc2 with Razor.     For the sake of the question, by 'shareware' I mean a software which is relatively small in size (up to few dozens of mb) and available for download and evaluation through a web site. I'm asking this question, because I don't understand something regarding the current state of windows commercial desktop development. It seems to me that: There is no reliable statistic regarding the extent of windows systems with .Net Framework installed. It makes no sense to force the end user to install the 20-60mb .Net for an application which may be smaller. Applications conforms to the term 'shareware' above have a big share on the win os market. Much of them don't need the capabilities of low level languages like c++, and therefore ideally they should be developed with a RAD enviroment. So, One would suppose there will be a blossom of RAD enviroments for native win code. But I know about only one - Delphi, and Delphi is so unpopular. How is that?

  • Orphan Char appearing when using Sifr3 in Navigation (Wordpress)

    Hi there, I am having an issue implementing Sifr3 on this particular site and it's driving me nuts. Hoping someone will be able to help me: http://client.missmonkee.com/agency-mobile LOGIN: client-login cl1entpassw0rd Here at the top right you can see the navigation to the site, in FF3 Win 7 / FF & Safari MAC some menu items show 1 char on a seperate line to the rest of the menu item. It looks as if there is a width on the li or something but I'm 100% sure there isnt and the rest of the menu items are OK and display fine. Something in relation to this might help answer this problem, is that Sifr3 does does not work AT ALL in IE7 WIN. I've checked previous answers to this, being the trailing comma issue but I've triple checked and I do not have any trailing commas. Can anyone help on this pls? Thanks in advance

  • WndProc(ref Message m), Prevent minimize Games, Send key strokes.

    Overview: I am going to create a touch application that interfaces with games and other apps. This concept is similar to the app found on touch-buddy.com but I will be using C# and WPF instead of how the application is written in Perl. I have a few challenges I would like to evaluate. The touch-buddy app uses two approaches while interacting with games; 1. Client mode (Same machine runs both game and touch-buddy). 2. Server / Client mode where a separate box sends commands to the game machine. The reason I believe for this method was to circumvent the issue with games minimizing. In Client only mode I am faced with the issue where I touch a screen OTHER than the main screen where the game is viewed and then the game minimizes. Not all games have this behavior but I would like to conquer the games that do minimize and prevent it. Is it possible to keep a game front and center Focused and prevent minimizing utilizing C# WndProc(ref Message m)? I have been experimenting with WndProc(ref Message m) where I created a win form and when I press minimize on my own Win form and it will close an instance of notepad. This proves to me that I can capture a message, prevent that message from bubbling up and then send a message to another application. I then tried to click on notepad with my touch screen and keep my win form application in focus and not minimize. At this point I am unsuccessful. I need more time understanding message codes. Is this the right approach? Can it be done? Should I look at other libraries such as Windows Automation? Key input is my other concern. What is the best way to send key strokes to other apps/games. Should I tap into DirectX, use some kind of send key, Automation Framework? Can any of these handle the multiple key strokes that some simulation games require? I appreciate any links and or insight you may have. If you have gone down this path for any reason I would love to hear your comments. Stan

  • Deploying Qt / MySQL application

    Hi everyone, I hadn't found a anwser on the web, so i ask to you. I am unable to run my compiled mysql driver on a deployment solution. On the pc A the app work fine when run with QtCreator, but via the .exe in the following working directory, the driver is not loaded : root/ -----/bin --------/app.exe --------/libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll --------/mingwm10.dll --------/QtCore4.dll --------/QtGui4.dll --------/QtSql4.dll -----/sqldrivers --------/libmysql.dll --------/qsqlmysql4.dll Whereas with libmysql.dll under bin/ driver is loaded. Now on the pc B, with no Qt or MySQL lib installation and with any of the 2 last working dir, the driver is not loaded. pc A : Qt 4.7 2010.05, Win 7 pc B : Win 7 Thanks for your help !

With the difficulty on the hardest setting I have not been able to win one game, however, I have come close. What's the fun in playing a chess game if the computer can search all moves and win?     I have a USB drive with two partitions in it, one hidden and one normal. I have an application which swaps the memory and runs the flash application in hidden zone. The problem is that the application works fine on Windows 7 and when run on Win XP, it swaps the partitions but doesn't run the flash applications but just keeps running in the background. I can see it in task manager. But, when I copy the application to desktop and run, it runs with no glitch. I was facing the same problem on Win 7 too, but it was running as required when I ran it using "Run in XP mode" and then I applied a SHIM and is running since then as required. The application is built using VC++ 2008. What might be the problem?

    I am thinking about adding configurable settings to an application, and I think the easiest ways are an external file or win registry (its a win only app). Which way would be better? I was wondering, an user with not enough permissions may not be able to create/write the config file. And in the case of the registry, would todays antivirus allow me to add/edit/remove keys? Or they only monitor certain keys? Also, if someone knows a class/lib to manage config settings (in pure win32) in vc++ please post it.

    Hi: I'm reading up on ASP.NET, and just came to a chapter that explains how to upload a file to your website. It says that in order to save a file to your file system, in the case of every OS except Win Server '03, an ASP.NET page executes in the security context of the ASPNET account. I don't have an ASPNET account running on my machine (win xp pro sp3; .NET 3.5). The program runs fine, by the way, I'm just trying to understand what an ASPNET account is exactly, and why it doesn't seem to show up on my list of user accounts. Thanks.

  • Should I move client to Lamp or develop on Wamp?

    I have never developed for WAMP, the hosting guy for my new client says they are using Windows servers, they can setup PHP and MySQL for me, but they cannot switch to a *nix server. He said there are some nuances from PHP on *nix Vs. win. So my question is, if I have never programmed PHP on win, should I go through the hassle of switching hosts (since they cannot do *nix themselves), or are the differences slight enough that it shouldn't be too big a problem for me? (side note: the state of the clients website has no effect since it is a static all-flash site and is going to be completely rebuilt) Thanks!
