• Icons in Silverlight: Images vs. Vectors

  I like using the vector drawing feature of Expression Blend to create icons. That way I can change colors easily on my icons without having to resort to an image editor. But my question is... Say I have a treeview control that has an icon next to each tree element and say I have hundreds of elements. Do you think using images is faster - performance wise than using vector icons? B/c I'd rather use vectors but I'm wondering about performance concerns.

  I've been developing Ruby on Rails applications for some time, and have often found help to develop generate the templates of HTML with accompanying CSS. However, I'd like to make an attempt at doing this myself. Initial experiments leave me feeling like my process is really slow. I'm writing all my Rails code in VIM, which, with accompanying aliases to run the test suite, is pretty fast for me. However, the back-and-forth between browser/VIM to see new changes seems cumbersome - I'm guessing finding an editor with an embedded browser that constantly sees new changes is ideal for this (any suggestions?) So far I've experimented with Blueprint, which at the onset seems like it will save me a ton of time. However, what other tools have helped you do the PSD-HTML/CSS conversion as fast as you can?

• String Encoding doesn't ouput all characters

  My client uses InputStreamReader/BufferedReader to fetch text from the Internet. However when I save the Text to a *.txt the text shows extra weird special symbols like 'Â'. I've tried Convert the String to ASCII but that mess upp å,ä,ö,Ø which I use. I've tried food = food.replace("Â", ""); and IndexOf(); But string won't find it. But it's there in HEX Editor. So summary: When I use text.setText(Android), the output looks fine with NO weird symbols, but when I save the text to *.txt I get about 4 of 'Â'. I do not want ASCII because I use other Non-ASCII character. The 'Â' is displayed as a Whitespace on my Android and in notepad. Thanks! Have A great Weekend! EDIT* found:   in Wordpad

• .NET make a copy of an embedded file resource to the local drive

  Hi, i'm new to the realm to working with Files in .NET I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.) In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File--New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory. The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor) I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime? Any guidance will be very, very appreciated. Thanks!

• ajax Post data missing with tinyMCE on Firefox

  I have a problem with my form when I try to submit with ajax. I am using Malsup Form plugin for Jquery but also using tinyMCE editor. When I submit the form and check the $_POST array, there is no data from the textarea. I have tried to use the triggerSave() function but to no avail. • Drawing rectangles on a grid in a web browser

  I would like to create an online, simple WYSIWYG drawing editor allowing people to draw rectangular shapes. I'm thinking of a grid which the lines and points can snap on to, ensuring that the lines are strictly vertical or horizontal. I will be parsing the rectangular shapes to obtain some area calculations and compute certain things. How can I achieve the drawing ability? The new canvas tag is good but people have been telling me that IE does not support it. I found some Java applets but I have never programmed in Java before. Is there a way to do this using pure javascript or jquery? Does ASP.NET help at all? Thanks.

  I'm building a WSS site which has to show SVG files stored on WSS. I'm trying to use <object> tag to show it and it doesn't show, however, if I use <embed> it works ok. Im'using IE8 and IE7 I've been reading and everyone tells IE prefers <Object> over <embed>, but in WSS it doesn't work this way. To display the file I'm using a web content editor webpart with this code: <object type="image/svg+xml" data="/samples/sample.svg" name="owMain" width="400" height="150"> </object> Any clue??

• SVN Export in Eclipse removes labels on tabs

  I have a very strange effect when using subclipse with eclipse. Whenever I use Team-Export to export a file from the editor the export works fine, but the label of the tab of the file is removed. Effect can be seen here: http://www.daspferd.de/img/tabs.png Strangely enough it happens with php-files, css-files, html-files but NOT with javascript-files. So I'm assuming it's some kind of setting that I haven't found yet and not a bug in subclipse. Anyone know where I can shut down this behaviour?

• Help with proper character encoding.

  I have a HTML form that is sometimes submitted with accented characters: à, è, ì, ò, ù I have a PHP script that exports these form submissions into CSV format, when I look at the CSV format in a text editor (vim or notepad for example) the characters look fine, but when opened with Open Office or Word, I get some funky results: ????? I am also passing these submission to salesforce and am getting an error: "The entity "Atilde" was referenced, but not declared." What can I do to ensure portability of my CSV file? What's the proper way to handle the encoding? My HTML file is content-type is set as: Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Data is being stored in MySQL as latin1_swedish_ci collation.

• What is the code for a number sign in sharepoint?

  I've created a link in Sharepoint using the Content Editor Web Part. My link uses html to open up an email with the fields to, cc, subject, and body filled out. However, in the cc section I need a number sign (#) for a mailbox. When I use the html code & #35;(minus the space) my entire code crumbles. Everything starting at the "&" disappears. However, just for kicks I tried & pound;(minus the space) and the code works for a european pound sign. Not sure what else to try. Any suggestions?

  I'm trying to do something which is very easy to do in the regular MSVC, but not supported easily in VC++ Express. There is no resource editor in VC++ Express. So I added a file named version.rc into my DLL project. The file has the below content, which is compiled by the resource compiler and added to the final DLL. This resource is viewable in the DLL using reshacker, though not when right-clicking the DLL in Windows Explorer. What is missing from my RC file to make it appear when right-clicking? • Why can't I have static public fields in my managed beans?

  I just started using the Netbeans 7.1 beta and it is calling out errors of a type which I have never seen before. Specifically: A managed bean with a public field should not declare any scope other than @Dependent. The fields it is complaining about are public static final. I can understand the restriction on non-static fields, but I can't think of a good reason this would not be allowed for a static field. Unfortunately I use a lot of them since I don't like having constants in my code. I note that even though I get the red dot in the margin in the editor, the maven-driven build still works and GlassFish still runs my application the way I would expect. So what is my denoument on this issue? Am I going to have to move my static fields elsewhere or is there another way of handling this?

• What's the best way to set cursor/caret position?

  If I'm inserting content into a textarea that TinyMCE has co-opted, what's the best way to set the position of the cursor/caret? I'm using tinyMCE.execCommand("mceInsertRawHTML", false, content); to insert the content, and I'd like set the cursor position to the end of the content. Both document.selection and myField.selectionStart won't work for this, and I feel as though this is going to be supported by TinyMCE (through something I can't find on their forum) or it's going to be a really ugly hack. Later: It gets better; I just figured out that, when you load TinyMCE in WordPress, it loads the entire editor in an embedded iframe. Later (2): I can use document.getElementById('content_ifr').contentDocument.getSelection(); to get the selection as a string, but not a Selection Object that I can use getRangeAt(0) on. I cannot bind the input types as exceptions because the content editor in sharepoint allows to modify the text in div or paragraph elements etc. The solution is not working in IE8 because the event.target returns the element that is on mouseover when there's no controls that has the focus.   I'm learning Java and OOP, and have been doing the problems at Project Euler for practice (awesome site btw). I find myself doing many of the same things over and over, like: checking if an integer is prime/generating primes generating the Fibonacci series checking if a number is a palindrome What is the best way to store and call these methods?   I have two WIN32 DLL projects in the solution, main.dll should call a function in mgn.dll. mgn.dll has mgn.h header file: #ifdef MGN_EXPORTS #define MGN_API __declspec(dllexport) #else #define MGN_API __declspec(dllimport) #endif extern "C" bool MGN_API AttachMGN(void); and mgn.cpp source file: #include "stdafx.h" #include "mgn.h" MGN_API bool AttachMGN(void) { ... } main.dll calls AttachMGN function from one of the source file: #include "stdafx.h" #include "..\mgn\mgn.h" bool CreateClient() { return ::AttachMGN(); } mgn.dll compiles successfully. main.dll doesn't show any errors in VS text editor, I can navigate using "Go To Definition" function. However during build I get the error: error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _imp_AttachMGN referenced in function "bool __cdecl CreateClient(void)" (?CreateClient@@AW4XZ) Both DLLs compile into the same folder. DependencyWalker shows the function AttachMGN as exported. Main project has a dependency set to Mgn project, if that matters. I believe that I simply have overlooked something.... Thanks in advance.

• Listview icons show up blurry (C#)

  I'm attempting to display a "LargeIcon" view in a listview control, however the images I specify are blurry. This is what I have so far: The .png files are 48x48 and that's what I have it set to display at in the ImageList properties. There's one thing that I've noticed (which is probably the cause) but I don't know how to change it. Inside the "Images Collection Editor" where you choose what images you want for the ImageList control, it looks like it's setting the wrong size for each image. As you can see the "PhysicalDimension" and the "Size" is set to 16x16 and not abled to be manipulated. Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks!
