  Hi all, I am fetching data from MySql Server into R using RODBC. So in one column of the database is a character vector SELECT MAX(CHAR_LENGTH(column)) FROM reqtable; RETURNS 26566 Now I will show you an example how I am running into the problem `library(RODBC) con <- odbcConnect("mysqlcon") rslts <- as.numeric(sqlQuery(con, "SELECT CHAR_LENGTH(column) FROM reqtable LIMIT 10", as.is=TRUE)[,1]) ` returns > rslts [1] 62 31 17 103 30 741 28 73 25 357 where as rslts <- nchar(as.character(sqlQuery(con, "SELECT column FROM reqtable LIMIT 10", as.is=TRUE)[,1])) returns > rslts [1] 62 31 17 103 30 255 28 73 25 255 So strings with length 255 is getting truncated at 255. Is there a way I can get the full string. Thanks

• Hibernate Auto-Increment not working

  I have a column in my DB that is set with Identity(1,1) and I can't get hibernate annotations to work for it. I get errors when I try to create a new record. In my entity I have the following. @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.IDENTITY, generator="native") @Column(name="SeqNo", unique=true, nullable=false) BigDecimal seqNo; But when I try to add a new record I get the following error. Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'MemberSelectedOptions' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF. I don't want to set IDENTIY_INSERT to ON because I want the identity column in the db to manage the values. The SQL that is run is the following; where you can clearly see the insert. insert into dbo.MemberSelectedOptions (OptionStatusCd, EffectiveDate, TermDate, SelectionStatusDate, SysLstUpdtUserId, SysLstTrxDtm, SourceApplication, GroupId, MemberId, OptionId, SeqNo) values (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) What am I missing?

• Strange IP addresses in tomcat

  Some where I have this in some generic class. public static String getRequestIp (HttpServletRequest request){ String ipaddr = request.getHeader("X-FORWARDED-FOR"); if (ipaddr == null)ipaddr = request.getRemoteAddr(); return ipaddr; } For every request i call that method and in a certain moment i insert a record in a mysql database. In most cases it works normally and i can see a record for every request with a valid ip address in the right field. But sometimes where the IP should be there is something like this. "unknown, 93.186.30.120" or "10.0.1.169, 186.38.84.3" Apache is at the front listening at port 80 and used as proxy to Tomcat that listens at port 8081. My router config would not allow to pass any conection that come by any port other than 80. Any Help? Thanks in advance.

• Unexpected error 0x8ffe2740 occurred in IIS

  I have installed IIS in my system (WINDOWS-XP). While i am seeing IIS window, the Default web site is in stop mode. when i am ready to start IIS. It shows "Unexpected error 0x8ffe2740 occurred" Finally, I discovered that its caused by Skype. It listens to port 80 for incoming call. Now, most of the time IIS starts before Skype starts. So IIS works but if you restart IIS or try to start IIS after Skype is started then you will get this error message. For this, I changed my Skype settings Skype File-> Options -> Connection Uncheck Use Port 80 as an alternative for incoming connections. But even though i am unable to start my IIS. Please help me some one.. Thanks.

• Python Textwrap - forcing 'hard' breaks

  I am trying to use textwrap to format an import file that is quite particular in how it is formatted. Basically, it is as follows (line length shortened for simplicity): abcdef <- Ok line abcdef ghijk <- Note leading space to indicate wrapped line lm Now, I have got code to work as follows: wrapper = TextWrapper(width=80, subsequent_indent=' ', break_long_words=True, break_on_hyphens=False) for l in lines: wrapline=wrapper.wrap(l) This works nearly perfectly, however, the text wrapping code doesn't do a hard break at the 80 character mark, it tries to be smart and break on a space (at approx 20 chars in). I have got round this by replacing all spaces in the string list with a unique character (#), wrapping them and then removing the character, but surely there must be a cleaner way? N.B Any possible answers need to work on Python 2.4 - sorry!

  I have a scalar UDF that I know to be deterministic, however SQL doesn't. Is there a way to declare it as deterministic so that I can then use it in a persisted computed column definition? further clarification: The purpose of this exercise is that I need to harvest out specific values from an XML column on the row. I can't use the value method of the xml column in my computed column definition, but I can use it in a UDF. I know the xpath query in the value method will produce the same output give the same input so while I certainly understand that not all calls to value will be deterministic I want to assert that mine is.

• Starting socket server in ruby on rails on cloud environments (heroku)

  Hi, I'm using heroku, and I can push a Ruby on Rails app just fine, I'm trying to convert this to a Socket server, basically I would need to bind to an open port, in this case, I know Heroku only does 80 22 and 443. Is it possible to bind to port 80 on those environments? Also, how would I setup the entry point for this socket server, all I know is that when script/server it boots up the app. Do I have to put the function call there? How can a socket server start instead of the rails app on top of whatever webserver heroku has.

I am wondering why even a single delete statement of this store procedure will cause deadlock if executed by multiple threads at the same time? For the delete statement, Param1 is a column of table FooTable, Param1 is a foreign key of another table (refers to another primary key clustered index column of the other table). There is no index on Param1 itself for table FooTable. • Transparently surround a component with a link in Wicket

  I want to be able to add links on certain items in an ListView. If an items is surrounded by the link or not is up to the code, so its not in the normal page markup. Say i have a markup like this: <div class="column" wicket:id="columnRepeater"> <span wicket:id="column"></span> </div> So essentially, while filling the repeater with a ListView i am able to find a custom renderer for the column component. (not my playingfield). What i want is to add a Link/Ajax Link around the column component. I learned using wicket:border lets you surround additional stuff. Now, the border markup looks like this: <wicket:border> <a wicket:id="link"><wicket:body/></a> </wicket:border> Now, i am a bit puzzled what the Border implementation looks like. Anyone there who can suggest a working java part? I have a couple of "work in progress" solutions but none works. Most questions have to do with usage of component ids. Is the border id = column ? Whats the id of the inner (border body) id then?

I want to rename the column of table at sql server 2005, following query I have run at sql server2005: 1) ALTER TABLE Details RENAME COLUMN AccountID TO UID; but it gives me the error: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'COLUMN'. 2)I have added one new column in the table by query: ALTER TABLE Details ADD BID uniqueidentifier; and then I want to set the coulmn property to not null . I got this error The newsequentialid() built-in function can only be used in a DEFAULT expression for a column of type 'uniqueidentifier' in a CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE statement. It cannot be combined with other operators to form a complex scalar expression. Is there a workaround for this ? Edit1: Changing NEWSEQUENTIALID() to NEWID() in the trigger solves this, but I am indexing this column and using NEWID() would be sub-optimal

• Alter multiple tables' columns length

  So, we just found out that 254 tables in our Oracle DBMS have one column named "Foo" with the wrong length- Number(10) instead of Number(3). That foo column is a part from the PK of the tables. Those tables have other tables with forigen keys to it. What I did is: backed-up the table with a temp table. Disabled the forigen keys to the table. Disabled the PK with the foo column. Nulled the foo column for all the rows. Restored all the above But now we found out it's not just couple of tables but 254 tables. Is there an easy way, (or at least easier than this) to alter the columns length? P.S. I have DBA permissions.

  I'm a relative rookie at this,so please bear with me... I have 2 tables: OrderDetail and OrderMaster...both have a column named SalesOrder. OrderDetail table has multiple rows per unique SalesOrder. OrderMaster table has one row per unique SalesOrder. OrderDetail has a column named LineType. OrderMaster has a column named OrderStatus. I want to select all records from OrderDetail that have a LineType of "1" AND whose matching SalesOrder line in the OrderMaster table has a OrderStatus column value of "4". In plain English, orders with a Status 4 are open and ready to ship, LineType value of 1 means the Detail Line is a product code. How should this query be structured? It's going into VS 2008 (VB).   I have a 2D array called "results." Each "row" array in results contains both string and integer values. I'm using this script to sort the array by any "column" on an onclick event: function sort_array(results, column, direction) { var sorted_results = results.sort(value); function value(a,b) { a = a[column]; b = b[column]; return a == b ? 0 : (a < b ? -1*direction : 1*direction) } } This works fine for the columns with strings. But it treats the columns of integers like strings instead of numbers. For example, the values 15, 1000, 200, 97 would be sorted 1000, 15, 200, 97 if "ascending" or 97, 200, 15, 1000 "descending." I've double-checked the typeof the integer values, and the script knows they're numbers. How can I get it to treat them as such?

  I'm using Computed Columns to provide me with the following information: Hours, Minutes, and Seconds between a Start DateTime and Finish DateTime (Where Minutes and Seconds are between 0 and 59 and Hours can be any value 0 or greater) Computed Column for Seconds: datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) % 60 Computed Column for Minutes: floor(datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) / 60.0) % 60 Computed Column for Hours: floor(datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) / 3600.0) Here's the table for reference Note: I'm also calculating TotalElapsedSeconds, TotalElapsedMinutes, and TotalElapsedHours in other computed columns, but those are easy. I just feel like I might be missing out on a nice built in function in SQL.
