I have an android app that periodically, say once a week downloads content from a server in XML. The content is used by the app, different Acitivities use different parts of the content.
My question is a design one, should I save the data in SQlite or just keep it as an XML file, which one would be faster to read?
The app can only use one content piece at a time, which means subsequent XML content downloads replace the old one.

Hi,
I have a ListView in my android application.
If I flick up/down the ListView, which method will return my 'selected' element in my list View? How about if I use the track ball to navigate up/down my list view, which method will return the index of my selected element?
Thank you.
I am attempting to learn how to develop on the Android platform but do not quite understand the relationship between Activities and Views, because according to the documentation an Activity is link to a UI object that the user can interact with, but if this is the case where does the whole idea of Views come in?
There is probably a very basic explanation but I would appreciate a few pointers all the same. Thanks

Does Android come with a way to do Full Text Search?
I know is it not even possible to search contacts by the notes field, being Google the search company, but I would be disappointed if there is no API for that.
hello I think the title says it all. I need to accomplish this result in android but it looks like there is no easy fix to my problem. Just to clarify a bit more: if I had to do it in html css I would write something like
<img src="Image URL" style="float:left; margin-right: 5px;" />
got it? ;)
thanks guyz
I want a TextView to have a rounded border. This can be done by using a drawable, specifying a shape in the drawable, and then using the drawable as the background of the TextView. android:background="@layout/border" Also shown here
However, my TextView already has a background color (which is gray) and thus I'm unable to use the above method to set a rounded border.
Is there any other method to do this which allows the background color of the TextView to remain gray and also surrounds it with a rounded border?

I have a large editText that no matter what I try, won't center. I have tried putting it in a horizontal and vertical linear layout and then setting that gravity to center because setting the imageText's gravity to center, it still hugs the left of my activity.
<EditText
android:id="@+id/editText1"
android:layout_width="250dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:ems="10"
android:gravity="center"
android:lines="8"
android:maxLines="8"
android:minLines="8" >
</EditText>
And here is what it is doing:

Is there a way to change the sync settings of a Gmail account programmatically with an Android app? For instance, I'd like to enable/disable syncing of a Gmail account from my app, without the user having to do anything.
I took a look at AccountManager, but that doesn't seem to be the right place to look.
Starter question: My "Hello World" attempt won't run, ("No compatible targets were found"), I think this is bacause I selected the latest version for my project (2.2), and the highest AVD version is 2.0.1. Does this make sense? Can I change my project version (haven't been able to find a way to do this), or do I have to start again? If the versions are not backwards compatible, what is the best version to use for the majority of Android devices out there?
Thanks
Hi stackies,
I'm programmatically putting various TextViews into a LinearLayout with a horizontal orientation.
After 2h of research I couldn't find out how to tell Android not to squeeze all the TextViews in one line but instead to "float" non-fitting TextViews into the next line.
I know there isn't something like actual "lines" in a LinearLayout, but how can I tell the TextViews to actually behave like floating DIVs from the HTML world?
Thanks alot!
Be well
S.
