  A few friends of mine and including me for the past few years have hosted an irc server on one of our dedicated servers. We use it for just personal reasons. We like the aspect of it that it allows private messages and chat rooms. Plus the ability to send/receive files and is cross platform (Linux/Mac/Windows/Mobile). Our domain is about to expire and we are looking to move onto something new. So we are looking for a chat client / server that offers the following: Chatroom (multiple people chatting together in the same box) File transfers Private messages Cross Platform (especially mobile ie: Blackberry and Android) We don't have to host it but that isn't out of the question Logging on the client side (we say a lot of crap and like to go back and quote said crap) SSL/TLS Some sort of encryption some of the stuff said/sent is of a sensitive nature ie: business nature

• How to get ISA 2006 Web Proxy to work with the Single Network Adapter template

  I need to test an issue with running our application behind a proxy server with different type of configurations, so I installed ISA 2006 Enterprise on a desktop computer. Since this computer only has a single network card and I want to start out easy, I chose the "Single Network Adapter" template. We have a internal NAT'ed network which is in the 10 range. I have defined the internal network on the ISA server to be 10.XXX.YY.1 - 10.XXX.YY.255 I also have the Default rule which denies all traffic, but I've added the following Rule: Policy - Protocols - From - To Accept HTTP Internal External HTTPS Local Host Internal HTTS Server Localhost Then I configured Internet Explorer on a virutal machine running XP within virtualbox with Brigded network (gets same network address range as regular computers on our network) similar to this Instead of the server name I used the IP address. • Redhat 6 gui installation VS kickstart gives me different packages?

  If i do the graphical install and select basic server + aide and screen i get a system with 535 installed packages. If i look at the /root/anaconda-ks.cfg file in that freshly installed system i see: %packages @base @console-internet @core @debugging @directory-client @hardware-monitoring @java-platform @large-systems @network-file-system-client @performance @perl-runtime @security-tools @server-platform @server-policy @system-admin-tools pax python-dmidecode oddjob sgpio certmonger pam_krb5 krb5-workstation nscd pam_ldap nss-pam-ldapd perl-DBD-SQLite aide screen If i then install a NEW system using a kickstart only containing those packages i get 620 installed packages. So basicly my question is why does the system install almost 100 more packages when using kickstart compared to the GUI installation when the exact same packagegroups are selected?

• Start jade via batch script as service on windows server 2012 amazon ec2 instance

  I would like to start the Jade agent platform with a batch script on an windows server ec2 instance as a service. The reason for this is, that I want to start jade automatically at system startup. For creating the service I use nssm. However so far its working fine and the service is created. When I want to start the service I get an error message: Windows could not start the NAME service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error... My batch file contains only one line: java jade.Boot -platform-id P%random% If i execute the script via cmd it works fine. Anybody got an idea why this is not working if I start the batch script as a service?

• Squid - Selective reverse proxy and forward proxy

  I'd like to setup a squid instance to do selective reverse proxy for a configured list of URLs whilst acting as a normal forward proxy for everything else. We are building new infrastructure, parallel live as it where, and I want to have a proxy that people can use that will force selective traffic into the new platform whilst just acting as a forward proxy for anything else. This makes it very easy for people/systems to test the portions of the new platform we want without having to change too much, just use a proxy address. Is such a setup possible ?

  I want to test integrity and global performances of no-ECC memory chips on a custom board Are there some tools that run under linux so I can monitor system and global temperature in the same time ?   This is my first time developing Android applications. I'm developing an Android app on Eclipse on Windows 7. I would like to run the Android app from the Windows 7 command line interface. I have my Android device connected to the PC. The workspace directory that I use to store the Android project is C:\Users\Guest\Desktop\Software Applications Development\Java\Android Moblie Applications Projects\Eclipse Indigo for Java EE x64-bit\project workspace I opened the command line interface and I changed the working directory to the Android workspace directory. cd C:\Users\Guest\Desktop\Software Applications Development\Java\Android Moblie Applications Projects\Eclipse Indigo for Java EE x64-bit\project workspace I included Android sdk platform tools directory into the PATH environment variable. c:\Users\admin\Android-sdks\platform-tools Then I entered this into the Windows 7 command line interface: ant debug I have this error message on the cmd: ant is not recognised as an internal or external command, operatable program or batch file. What is the solution to this problem?

• MMS gets hostname from uname and can't connect to it

  I'm trying to get 10gen's MongoDB Monitoring Service monitoring my 3-node replica set. The replica set running in an AWS VPC. Each node runs on a different [virtual] machine. Assume their IPs are 192.168.1.1 (primary or secondary), 192.168.1.2 (primary or secondary), 192.168.1.3 (arbiter). From a quick look at the source, MMS appears to get the hostname of the machine it is running on like so: platform.uname()[1] For my VPC EC2 instance, this returns something like ip-192-168-1-1 MMS then tries to connect to this hostname, which does not resolve. I'd rather just use IP addresses (since they're always static), but it seems like the hardcoded use of platform.uname()[1] in mmsAgent.py precludes that. So, what's an elegant way out of this? Hack /etc/hosts? I'm not setting up a DNS server just for this. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding how to configure MMS.

  Working on Windows 7 platform, I'm interested in creating an app that could run on Android devices (phone or tablet), IOS devices (iPhone, iPad), and the web. First target would be Android. Do you remember those old Arthur Murray footstep diagrams to teach dancing? I want to do the same thing, but animate the steps, so the user can play them all, as well as step forward or backward thru them at their own pace. Perhaps one could generate an animated GIF and then play it on the platform. So there would seem to be two parts to this: 1) A good way to generate the animation images. I can, for example, see using SketchUp - something I know - for this. But is there something better it would be worth investing in? And, 2) How to play the result, including options for playback speed control, and even forward/backward stepping? Ideally a single, or easily adaptable player to the three different OS platforms.

  Which Unix like environment do you prefer on Windows? I have found Cygwin to be very comfortable for a Windows platform (usually XP). I am wondering if there is a better alternative (not because I want to move away from Cygwin). What are the features of Cygwin that you like OR, What are features you find in alternatives that you miss in Cygwin? I am often miss binary compatibility of applications built on Cygwin. These cannot be run directly on another Windows platform. But, usually fetching a copy of cygwin1.dll suffices. A collection of other tools, many of which work directly on the Windows subsystem rather than emulating Unix, like Cygwin does: Have been referred PowerShell a lot of times for scripting on Windows Earlier, UnixUtils was suggested more often Microsoft Windows Services for Unix

  In what platforms/browsers does Adobe Flash come preinstalled? I'm pretty sure neither FireFox nor Safari include it on any platform but Chrome on Windows does (not sure about Mac or Linux). What about IE on a completely vanilla Win XP system? Or Win 7? Maybe mfgs like Dell add it if MS doesn't? Perhaps we can find (or build) a comprehensive list. Considering that Flash is a significant piece of the web platform, I hope I've asked this on the right place.

• OTN Developer Days (Review) - San Juan, PR - April 29, 2010

  A quick update on the San Juan, PR event. First off it was a great success with the Keynote audience of 200+. Mickey Ralat, Managing Director Oracle Caribbean, kicked off the event with a quick introduction followed by me delivering the Keynote Message - The Fusion Development Platform which is the first session in the regular OTN DD events that we run in North America. Following this session was a partner, SDT, basically marketing their services which covers the Oracle stack and then following was a very brief presentation on APEX. After this we broke out into the various tracks of Java, (APEX) DB SQL Developer, .NET on Oracle. After the breakout we ran the following sessions in the Java track: Developing with JDBC, UCP, and Java in Database, Rich Internet Applications in Web 2.0, Development Made Simple Without Coding: Developing Reusable Business Components. As expected with the various tracks, we ended up with 50 - 70 in the various sessions within the JAVA track and the audience was very impressed with the power of JDeveloper/ADF 11g and we got a number of questions from licensing cost to upgrading / integrating from Forms. As for the Forms questions, I fielded a number of them and for those I couldn't, I pointed them towards Grants resources which seemed to suffice. They were all, for the most part, unaware of the recent 11.1.1.3 release which occurred only a couple of days prior to the event. The indication was that they were going to download it and use it for the lab that was included on the DVD which we did not have the time for them to even start on.   I am looking for nice BBS system, Bulletin Board System, Discussion Board, or nice in-company communication platform. There are lots of people, about 30 people, joining in our project. We would like to share idea among us on that platform. We can post questions and concerns related with the project, and we would like to respond each other. Here is my list of functionality I want: Tagging Thread e.g) Announcement, Finance, Legal, Idea. One thread can have multiple Tags. members can set on/off to receive email when new comments are posted. They can set on/off on each Tag. e.g) one member on to receive email related with "Announcement", but off to receive "Finance". Thread owner can change threads' tag any time.   The Oracle Linux and Oracle VM are continuing to see growth in IHV (Independent Hardware Vendor) ecosystem. The Oracle Linux and Oracle VM Hardware Certification Program, also referred as HCL, provides a formal means for hardware vendors to work with Oracle to establish high quality support for the certified hardware platform. Since the beginning of the program, number of hardware partners have certified range of server platforms on Oracle Linux and Oracle VM. Currently, HCL lists over 400 certifications from 10 server vendors and the list continues to grow at a rapid pace. New hardware certification involves close collaboration between Oracle and server partner to ensure that adequate testing is performed on the target server and results are thoroughly reviewed. This rigorous process ensures that when new hardware platform is listed on HCL, it has full support from both Oracle and the respective partner. Additionally, once a certification is achieved with Oracle Linux with the current version of Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, future minor updates of the software continue to carry over the certification, reducing the need for a re-certification.
