For example I am writing 20 lines of code to achieve the functionality and my co worker writing the code for the same functionality with just 5 lines. Since he used some looping statement to achieve that, but that code will execute around 30 to 50 times. So which is best way of coding? As per my knowledge I always try to reduce coding length as much I can.

• cursor jumps when moving (and some other times)

  i updated to 12.10 beta 1 when it was released (coming from 12.04 fresh install, i skipped the alpha releases of 12.10) since then i've done all the usual updates but ive had an issue with my cursor jumping. it does not jump when typing, i've done a lot of searching and cant find an answer, it tends to happen most when i move the cursor the jump is maybe 15-20 pixels down and to the right it seems like a display issue because if i hover over a link or the x to close a window the cursor will settle in it's down/right position, but the whatever im hovering over will still act as if that's where the mouse is, and clicking still works on the item. so the mouse is actually in its original location, but it's displaying offset and flickering back and forth from its down/right position and its correct position this makes use very difficult because the mouse is never displayed where it actually is and i have to estimate my clicks any ideas?

  I currently am working on a project which has one large style sheet for about 20 pages. The style sheet contains some styles which are specific for certain pages. I'd like to break the style sheet up so there is one style sheet for each page with one master style sheet that handles everything generic. The reason I want to do this is so people can work on multiple pages without having to worry about who has that large style sheet checked out (I'm using TFS). Is this good practice?

  Hello, I'm currently working on writing a load testing application that takes advantage of Load Test using Visual Studio 2010. The load test will simulate 20 users on the same machine, and I need some data to be shared in-memory between all simulated users. I was suprised I couldn't find documentation answering the following question: What seperates each virtual user's running context from the other? Does each virtual user runs the tests in its own process? Maybe in its own app domain? Or just on its own thread? I need to know because if each user is running tests in its own process then all the in-memory cache isn't shared and is created for each user instead of one time for all of them, which is bad for me.

A simple example would be the below function: function returns string get_item_type(int type_no) { if(type_no < 10) return "hockey stick" else if (type_no < 20) return "bulldozer" else return "unknown" } (excuse the dismal pseudo code) No matter what number is supplied all possibiblites are catered for. My question is: is there a word to fill the blank here: "get_item_type() is ______ complete" ? (The answer is not Turing Complete - that is something quite different - but I annoyingly always think of something as "Turing Complete" when I am thinking of the above).

• kubuntu 12.04 runs slowly

  i have a 3ghz amd 64 dual core am3 socket processor, asus mom board, 4GB ram, 8800GTS nividia video card with 500MB ram. installed kubuntu 12.04 and very laggy. select menu and 20 seconds later the menu pops up. i switched to classic menu and that seemed to help. what direction should i look first to get this running better? video perhaps? i had ubuntu 11.04 on this machine previously and had no problems with speed.

• Looking for parallel programming problem

  I am trying to come up with a problem that is easily solvable in a parallel manner and that requires communication between threads for a test. I also am trying to avoid problems that require require random waits, which rules out dining philosophers and producer-consumer (bounded buffer), two of the classics. My goal is for the student to be able to write the program in less than 20-30 minutes in front of a computer not knowing of the problem beforehand. (This is to prevent preparation more than to come up with something novel.) I am trying to stress the communication aspect of the program, though the multi-threaded nature is also important. Does anyone have some ideas? Edit: I'm using Google Go for the language and testing comprehension of the goroutines/channels combo vs an actors library that I authored.

• Is there anything software-related I can do, to make ubuntu play high-quality mkv files smoothely?

  I've noticed that beyond let's say..a 20 MB/s bitrate, a movie would lag, played on my laptop.. It results in me missing the highest bitrated scenes of a movie.. And sometimes having to compromise for watching the movie at a lesser quality.. I was wondering if there's anything I can do software-wise to play movies smoothley..? At the moment Ubuntu is installed with all the default settings on an 60GB SSD I use VLC ofcourse.. I also have 2 1TB HDD - maybe I can use them as pagefiles? I don't really know alot about this so maybe this is irrelevant.. I took the laptop battery out since it was dead..but I think this is also irrelevant.. would appriciate a response, even if there's nothing that can be done software-wise :)

  Idle keeps crashing and I can't figure it out. After restarting the computer and reinstalling Python, none of which seemed to work, I looked to my peers and was told to "install one of the Tcl/Tk". After getting another opinion I was also told that I already had this and found it to be true but decided to try it anyway since it continued to crash. Nothing has improved and I have an assignment due. Any ideas on why this continues to happen and what I can do to fix the crash?   I have a simple question but yet, hard to find any anwser on it. Are there any downsides of using Lubuntu on a good laptop ? Ihe one I purchased would run Ubuntu really good, but I like the look & feel of Lubuntu. I mainly use it to code or watch movie / listen music, usually a load of applications opened at the same time, 20+ tabs on multiple web browser, etc..   I'm trying to create a game with many levels loaded from XML files. In my game I have many objects in each level. At present my game contains 20 levels, and I load all the textures at once on startup. But I think the correct way to do it is to only load textures used in the current level. I don't know how to do that. So please explain this by providing some example code. At present I create a class for each type of entity by extending my Sprite class. This subclass loads the appropriate image. I know this is not the best way to do things. Basically I want to know how to load large levels efficiently in Andengine. What is the proper method for loading textures, level data and background images from files when the level is run?

Usually, I'll start to look at something while they're loading --- and 15-20 minutes later I realize my tests are long done, and I've spent 10 minutes reading online. Make a small change... rerun tests ... another 10-15 minutes wasted! How can I make my computer make some kind of alert (Sound or growl notification) when my tests finish, so I can snap back to what I was doing??

  My workflow includes some steps that make me wait for 0.5 to 2 minutes to complete: long remote git operations, creating / rebooting an instance in the cloud, etc. It's safe to assume that these operations cannot be made any faster. The resulting delays are the biggest flow-breakers for me. These are too long to just sit and stare at the progress indicators, but too short to take a walk and grab a coffee. Some of them don't want to get "promoted" as project managers because they still have the passion in coding and they are probably making more money by coding. However, when you get older, you might loss creativity and might not unable to pick up new languages or frameworsk as fast as those who are decades younger than us.   I have created a blog on Tumblr a few days ago. Looking over the statistics, it seems that Tumblr itself is visiting my website, using different browsers. What is this supposed to mean? Are these real visitors or is it a Tumblr bot? One example: Browser: Chrome 32.0 OS: Win8 Resolution: 1024x768 Location: New York, United States IP Address: Tumblr (66.6.40.249) Referring URL: (No referring link) Other browsers used include: Chrome 20.0.1090.0 Firefox 21 Opera 12.14 Chrome 15.0.861.0 Chrome 32.0.1667.0 Internet Explorer 6 Internet Explorer 9 Opera 12 Opera 12.02 They all use the same screen resolution (1024x768) and have no referrer. • Why does Windows 7 overall performance is better than Ubuntu 11.10?

  I have a i7 2600 processor, 8Gb DDR3 ram, nVidia GTX570, and Ubuntu takes 45-50 seconds to boot and 32-35 seconds to power off, while windows 7 boots in 20-25 seconds and shuts down in 10 seconds. Both OS with autologin enabled, and in dual boot. Ubuntu is slow with preload too, and doesn't show any boot splash after installing drivers and didn't recognize my nVidia graphics card on jockey GTK, I had to add x swat repository and that didn't worked. I installed proprietary drivers through terminal (nvidia-common, nvidia-settings) in order to have 3d acceleration. But it doesn't make any difference on the speed. I also have a Pentium 4 PC and ubuntu 11.10 is way faster than windows 7 or XP. Also with nvidia graphics card and preload. http://paste.ubuntu.com/924890/ there is my boot script, sorry but some words are in Spanish because my ubuntu is in Spanish. Not using WUBI, Ubuntu has its own partition, 64-bits, and Matlab 2011 has very low performance compared to windows version.

  I am currently running Fedora and would like to duel boot with Ubuntu. I do not want to replace Fedora, I would like to keep it as my main OS. However, when using the Ubuntu installer I only get the option to either: "Replace Fedora release 20 (Heisenbug) with Ubuntu" or "Something else" Is there I way I can install ubuntu alongside Fedora without deleting it? If so, as I would like fedora to be my main OS, is there also a way to make it the top grub option? I have tried partitioning with gparted however I can't split the fedora partition, it says it is all used however I have only used about 100/500GB. I am trying to install ubuntu 13.10 off a live USB stick, I will upgrade to 14.04 when I install it but don't want to make a new live USB.

  What should I do to get a site indexed on Google, fast? Taking example of Super User I just did a quick Google for a question that was 20 minutes old, to look for an answer, and it was already on Google Search - how is this possible? I glanced over this article which seems to suggest that SU has added RSS feeds (which SU has, but when I opened the feed the article says last posted 6 minutes ago, but when Googled it is 11 hours old) - which leads me to think (Based on that article, I don't know much about search indexing but I am reading at the moment) that most of this indexing is done thanks to the sitemap. is there anything else I am unaware of that helps SU questions get on Google so fast?
