• Using gnu screen with dual monitors.

  I use GNU screen for all of the work I do in the terminal, and would like to find a way to use it across two screens, but have not found anything that is satisfactory. I use cygwin or putty to access the system that runs screen, most of the time. Thanks in advance.

• how to add solr to run on startup?

  I asked this question before, but I think I got answers that were cron job type answers. I want the solr service to startup if I reboot my computer, and I also want it to run by itself instead of me opening up cmd.exe and running it manually, and then having to close my terminal connection (not log off as that will close it). What options do I have? I am on windows server 2008, IIS7 running a asp.net application that uses solr.

  When I open Terminal it periodically tells me 'You have new mail.', some of which comes from testing web applications that I am running on localhost, which try to send it. I find the command line mail application impossible to use. Is there a way to read this mailbox from the OS X Mail application?

Most pre-installed plugins work well but the following plugins are with blank graph: Memcached bytes used Memcached connections Memcached cache hits and misses Memcached cached items Memcached requests Memcached network traffic MySQL Queries Cache Size I run the following 3 script in terminal and results were ok. /etc/munin/plugins/memcached_bytes /etc/munin/plugins/memcached_counters /etc/munin/plugins/memcached_rates But when I tried the command below after "telnet localhost 4949" fetch memcached_bytes # Unknown service etch memcached_bytes_ # timeout pid 28009 - killing...done Does anyone know the reason?

  Hi I am trying to compile helloWorld in java under snow leopard and I get this compiler error: java[51692:903] Can't open input server /Library/InputManagers/Inquisitor It happens when I am using terminal command javac and when I am trying do this in NetBeans. I was trying to open folder "Inquisitor" but I have no access to folder , even if I login as root user. Any clue what is going on? thanks.

• New computer WindowsXP on Server 2003 network will not connect to file server

  When we try to connect to our file server with the new computer, it denies access. The computer is joined to the domain and I can see it on active directory. We need to connect to the file server for printing and terminal services. We have had this happen before and found that reinstalling Windows will fix the problem but I would like a speedier solution. any help would be appreciated.

  Using Ubuntu's USB Startup Disk Creator (usb-creator-gtk), I created a LiveUSB from the Xubuntu 9.10 LiveCD. When booting, it stalls up with the Xubuntu mouse splash screen displayed. In attempting to troubleshoot, I used Ctrl-Alt-F1 to check out the first virtual terminal.   I have setup my VPS pretty much now, and want to upload some basic files to the server. How is this done in Ubuntu 9.10? I have PuTTY and use the terminal there... Is there any ftp program, like in regular managed hostings, to just upload files with? I was thinking about proftpd, but don't have a clue how to get it to work. I am using my home-laptop with windows xp to command the VPS. Thanks

My users are running an application from Win2008 Terminal server using RemoteApp. If the application remains idle for 10 minutes it gets "locked" and the user is required to enter username and password to continue using it. This is VERY VERY annoying as the app usually sits idle for bout 20-30 minutes, used for 1 min... repeat.

• keepass not working with wine

  I installed Keepass 1.16 in my thumbdrive, which reportedly works with wine (as per Keepass homepage), but after entering the master password it just hangs and shows the "The program keepass has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" screen. I got this error msg among the stack trace on the terminal: wine: Call from 0x7b844633 to unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptOpenAlgorithmProvider, aborting On windows, everything runs fine. I'm using wine-1.1.27 on ubuntu 9.04 Any thoughts?

• Need a redistributable edition of Free AVG

  So, I'm trying to install AVG on someone else's computer (with permission, I promise!) but their internet connection is spotty. The d/l is stopped and sent back to square one when the line goes down, so I need to download it from a good terminal, and then shove it on a flash drive or something and give it to them. Does anyone know of a place where I can download the full program--not just the installer?
