• Apache local configuration to resolve files correctly

  Hello, I am new at this so bare with me. I have just configured Apache and PHP to work on my local Mac OS X computer. Now PHP works fine, except when I try to load the files for my live sites. The live sites have separate directories and are sorted by client name etc. I've created symlinks in the default root for the local web server documents. My issue is that Apache doesn't seem to want to load any of the relative paths that are found in the HTML pages. For example, I have src="/css/main.css" but Apache doesn't load the file, similarly for images, it just resolves as a file not found 404 error. I then thought it might be the symlinks so I copied the full directory into the Apache document root, and still had the same result. I would really love to setup my local development environment to run Apache, PHP, MySQL to develop locally then publish when ready. I also tried the MAMP installation, and had the same issues. Any help at all in this would be greatly appreciated. If my explanation wasn't clear please let me know. Thanks! Alex.

• Delete specific files after installation using visual studio setup project

  I have this problem. I want to build an installer for my c# solution, that will be placed in a folder with other installation folders and files that are needed to be copied to the installed folder. So that is easy, I just copy them to the folder I create using the folder structure I want. Now, I want also to install another program and run a .exe file I've created to unzip some files for me. For that I need to copy 2 .exe files and 2 dlls (for the exes) to the folder to which I am installing and create 2 custom actions that will use them. That I've managed to do. After that I want to delete those 4 extra files, as the user does not need them and shouldn't even be aware they are there. How to do so? I couldn't find a way in the built in setup project preferences + I do not know how to make a custom installer class. A bonus question, is how to make the other installer (one of the .exe files is just a plain installer) install quietly to any path? I do not want the user to see an installer pop out of my program installer. Thanks!

• Getting a lightweight installation of java eclipse.

  Having dealt with yet another stupid eclipse problem, I want to try to get the lightest, most minimal eclipse installation as possible. To be clear, I use eclipse for two things: - Editing Java - Debugging Java Everything else I do through emacs/zsh (editing jsp/xml/js, file management, svn check-in, etc). I have not found any aspect of working in eclipse to do these tasks to be efficient or even reliable, so I do not want plug-ins that relate to it. From the eclipse.org site, this is the lightest install of eclipse that they have, and I don't want any of those things (bugzilla, mylyn, cvs, xml_ui), and have actually had problems with each of them even though I do not use them. So what is the minimal build I can get that will: 1) Ignore svn metadata 2) Includes the full-featured editor (intellisense and type-finding) 3) Includes the full-featured debugger (standard eclipse/jdk) Does not have any extra plug-ins, platforms, or "integrations" with other platforms, specifically, I don't want to deal with plug-ins relating to: Maven, JSP Validation, Javascript editing or validation, CVS or SVN, Mylyn, Spring or Hibernate "natures", app servers like a bundled tomcat/glassfish/etc, J2EE tools, or anything of the like. I do primarily spring/hibernate/web-mvc apps, and have never dealt with an eclipse plug-in that handles any of it gracefully, I can work effectively with my own toolset, but eclipse extensions do nothing but get in the way. I have worked with plain eclipse up to Ganymede, MyEclipse (up to 7.5), and the latest version of Spring-SourceTools, and find that they are all saddled with buggy useless plug-ins (though the combination is always different). Switching to netbeans/intellij is not an option, and my teammates work with svn-controlled .class/.project files, so it pretty much has to be eclipse. Does anyone have any good advice on how I can save a few grey hairs?

• Android Maps: Installation error: INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY

  I'm trying to use Android Maps, following the instructions in Hello MapView. I've added <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> in the Manifest, and I'm building against the 'Google APIs' target, which claims to be API version 7. So I don't think I'm doing anything obviously wrong, but the project refuses to build with this error: [2010-12-22 13:34:32 - FMS]Installing FMS.apk... • Mysql configuration problem

  I have being trying since last night. At first it was working but this morning again its not working. I am installing mysql version 5.0 on vista machine. when i try to configure its says that: The security settings could not be applied to the database because the connnection had failed with the following error: Error Nr. 1045 access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'(using password:yes) if a personal firewall is runnig on your machine plaes make sure you have opened the tcp port 3306 for connections. otherwise no client applicaion can connect to the server. after you have opened the port please press retry to apply the secirity settings. if you are re-installing after you just installed the mysql server please not that the data directory was not removed automatically. therefore the old password from your last installation is still needed to connect to the server. in this case please select skip now and re-run the configuration wizard from the start menu. i tried disabling the wirefall, user accounts but getting the same error. can anyone suggest me something please.

• Disk Drive not working

  The CD/DVD drive on my sisters' (I'm helping her shift from Win. XP (now officially deprecated by Microsoft) to Ubuntu) system. Now, it may end up being a failed attempt, all together (Almost the whole last year (when she's been on XP) the disk drive hasn't (not even powering on) been working.), I just want to make sure I've explored every remote possibility. Because I figure, "Huh, now that I've got Ubuntu running, instead of XP, that (just) might make a difference.". I have tried using the sudo lshw command in the terminal, to (seemingly) no avil, but, who knows, you might be able to make something out of it. • MSDeploy migrate only configuration from IIS 6 to 7

  We have 19 websites, many of which have many "virtual" directories, on a IIS 6 server. I am trying to migrate the whole thing over to IIS 7 on a different server. Following the instructions on http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/427/migrate-a-web-site-from-iis-60-to-iis-70/ I attempted the following command line execution: msdeploy -verb:sync -source:metakey=lm/w3svc -dest:package=D:\Temp\Sites.zip > D:\temp\WebDeployPackage.log It appeared to be working until I got a "There is not enough space on the disk" error. The D drive, which you'll notice is the target location for the package and the log has plenty of space (all the resources for the websites are about 5gb, the drive has 200+). Though the C drive is of limited size (6Gb), so that might be the problem. Anyway, I figure the best bet was to try and do a migration of settings/configurations only, not the actual resources. We can easily deploy the resources to the new server with our NAnt build scripts, so that's not an issue. Getting all the correct configurations moved over, however, would be challenging to do manually. So, is there a way to export/package only the configuration/options of the IIS 6 server using msdeploy (or any other tool?)

• gcc 4.5 installation problem under ubuntu

  I tried to install gcc 4.5 on ubuntu 10.04 but failed. Here is a compile error that I don't know how to solve. Is there anyone successfully install the latest gcc on ubuntu? Following is my steps and the error message, I'd like to know where is the problem.... Step1: download these files: gcc-core-4.5.0.tar.gz gcc-g++-4.5.0.tar.gz gmp-4.3.2.tar.bz2 mpc-0.8.1.tar.gz mpfr-2.4.2.tar.gz Step2: Unzip above files Step3: move gmp, mpc, mpfr to the gcc-4.5.0/ directory. mv gmp-4.3.2 gcc-4.5.0/gmp mv mpc-0.8.1 gcc-4.5.0/mpc mv mpfr-2.4.2 gcc-4.5.0/mpfr Step4: go to gcc-4.5.0 directory and do configuration: sudo ./configure Step5: compile and install sudo make sudo make install The first 4 steps is OK, I can configure it successfully. However, when I try to compile it, following error message comes out, I cannot figure out what the problem is. Should I change the name from "gcc 4.5" to "gcc"?? It's a little strange that we need to do this by ourself.   I'm using the Uploadify jQuery control for client-side uploads. I think my IIS 7 configuration has issues with it. The uploadify POST immediately returns a HTTP 1.1 302 Found, back to my login page. I've tried to allow anonymous access to the uploading section(subfolder) plus the page(script) that processes the image in the web.config, using the location node(configuration ... location). Seems like the Uploadify post is immediately blocked. Again, this worked fine just using Visual Studio 2008, but when I run the site on the same machine I get the redirect. Your thoughts/ideas are very welcomed!

• Eclipse randomly exits after installation of Blackberry plugin/SDK

  Hello all Since adding the Blackberry Java classes from their website into eclipse, I've had it where eclipse will randomly close, with no discernible pattern, rhyme, error or reason. Here is the environment/software packages that I am using: Windows XP SP2 Eclipse v3.5.1 Blackberry Java Plugin v1.1.1.200911111641-15 Blackberry Java SDK 4.5.0.21 I've tried the usual steps of complete uninstall and reinstallation of Eclipse and the accompanying plugins on multiple systems with the same configuration, including one that had a fresh install of Windows XP SP2. Upgrading to Eclipse 3.6 didn't work (the plugin wont' install as it's the wrong version), nor the downgrade to 3.4 for the same reason. I also increased the heap size to 512 (system has two gigs of memory) as some research into Eclipse doing this type of thing with Groovy was resolved that way, but again, no dice. Eclipse works great when the blackberry plugins are not installed, and no entries of errors or issues in the event log are helping to show what the issue with these plug-ins might be. So if anyone has ran into this issue, and even better, has a solution, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks in advance. EDIT: An additional to my issue, autoComplete with the Blackberry SDK seems to make this extremely unstable, like almost a guaranteed crash. Is this fixable at all?

• WCF configuration and ISA Proxies

  Hi, I have a setup with a .NET WCF Service hosted on IIS. The client apps are connecting to the service through a set of ISA proxy's. I don't know how many and don't know about their configuration etc. In the client apps I open a client to the service and make several calls via the same client. It works great in my office, but when I deploy at the customer (using the ISAs), after some calls, the connection breaks. In a successfull case, the client will maximum live a few seconds, but is that too much? I think there might be several proxyes. Maybe it's using load ballancing. pseudo code is something like this: WcfClient myClient = new WcfClient(); foreach (WorkItem Item in WorkItemsStack) myClient.ProcessItem(Item); myClient.Close(); I am thinking whether I have to do something like this foreach (WorkItem Item in WorkItemsStack) { WcfClient myClient = new WcfClient(); myClient.ProcessItem(Item); myClient.Close(); } Any one with experience with this field? • FluentNHibernate SQLite configuration exception - after switching to .net4

  I get an exception thrown when trying to use Fluent to configure my NHibernate connection to SQLite. The code I use to configure is as follows: var cfg = Fluently.Configure(). Database(SQLiteConfiguration.Standard.ShowSql().UsingFile("MyDb.db")). Mappings(m => m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<MappingsPersistenceModel>()); _sessionFactory = cfg.BuildSessionFactory(); A HibernateException is thrown when BuildSessionFactory() is called, saying: Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver, NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4. It has an InnerException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. Which again has an InnerException: The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found. Ensure that the assembly System.Data.SQLite is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly. Now - to me it sounds like it doesn't find System.Data.SQLite.dll, but I can't understand this. Everywhere this is referenced I have "Copy Local", and I have verified that it is in every build folder for projects using SQLite. I have also copied it manually to every Debug folder of the solution - without luck. What can be causing this? Any ideas? My suspicion is that it is related to .Net4 somehow. The reason is that it worked just fine when I used .Net3.5, and then I changed to .Net4, and the problem started. • Start exe even with missing dependency dlls?

  In Dotnet2.0 and later a program refuses to start if one of its dependent (static referenced) dlls are missing. With Dotnet1.1 and 1.0 the program started but crashed later when trying to use functionality of the missing assembly. I wonder if there is something like a compiler switch , configuration option or a dotnet [attribute] to allow me to start the app when certain dlls are missing. Is it possible without moidfying the sourcecode (execpt by applying some Attriutes)? I don't want to manualy load assemblies by programcode or use IOC-Framworks. Update: With "static referenced dlls" i mean the opposite of dynamicly loading a dll in my own programcode using reflection and Assembly.Loadxxxx(). Update 2010-12-25: This scenario happens for example if you want to use Log4net with Dotnet4 clientprofile together with a WinForms-Aplication: Log4net requires System.Web.dll that is not in Dotnet4-Clientprofile. You must install dotnet4-web-support to use the winforms-aplication that is compiled against log4net unless there is some magic Compiler-switch/Attribute/Configuration that i am still looking for.

  Are there any recommended methods for automating configuring DotnetNuke settings? We will have several instances of our DNN application (prod, beta, qa, dev, local, etc) and need to be able to configure them all the same and be able to make updates to them all with our future releases. The settings currently needed to be configured include Host Settings, Portal Settings and User Profile Definitions. Here are some approaches I have come up with so far: 1) Create a Configuration module and use SQL scripts for all the settings? Is it generally safe to manipulate the DNN tables directly? Often it is recommended to use APIs with many frameworks. 2) Create a Configuration module and implement IUpgradeable.UpgradeModule and programatically set the settings? 3) Create a PortalTemplate from a portal with the settings all set. I believe this will only work for creating new portals. I will not be able to update existing portals.

• What is optimal hardware configuration for heavy load LAMP application

  I need to run Linux-Apache-PHP-MySQL application (Moodle e-learning platform) for a large number of concurrent users - I am aiming 5000 users. By concurrent I mean that 5000 people should be able to work with the application at the same time. "Work" means not only do database reads but writes as well. The application is not very typical, since it is doing a lot of inserts/updates on the database, so caching techniques are not helping to much. We are using InnoDB storage engine. In addition application is not written with performance in mind. For instance one Apache thread usually occupies about 30-50 MB of RAM. I would be greatful for information what hardware is needed to build scalable configuration that is able to handle this kind of load. We are using right now two HP DLG 380 with two 4 core processors which are able to handle much lower load (typically 300-500 concurrent users). Is it reasonable to invest in this kind of boxes and build cluster using them or is it better to go with some more high-end hardware? I am particularly curious how many and how powerful servers are needed (number of processors/cores, size of RAM) what network equipment should be used (what kind of switches, network cards) any other hardware, like particular disc storage solutions, etc, that are needed Another thing is how to put together everything, that is what is the most optimal architecture. Clustering with MySQL is rather hard (people are complaining about MySQL Cluster, even here on Stackoverflow).

In the documentation for AutoMapper it says: If you're using the static Mapper method, configuration only needs to happen once per AppDomain. That means the best place to put the configuration code is in application startup, such as the Global.asax file for ASP.NET applications. Whilst some of the projects will be ASP.net - most of these are class libraries / windows services. Where should I be configuring my mappings in this case?

  We use configuration files within various projects under source control (TFS), where each developer has to make some adjustments in his local copy to configure his environment. The build process takes care about replacing the config files with the server configuration as a part of the deployment, so it doesn't actually matter what is in the repository. However, we would anyway like to keep some kind of a default non-breaking version of config files in the repository, so that e.g. people not involved in the particular project won't run into troubles because of local misconfiguration. We tried to resolve this by introducing the check-in policy that simply forbids to check-in the config files. This works fine, but just because we're lazy to always uncheck those checkboxes in the pending changes window, the question comes : is it possible to transparently disable the check-in of particular files without keeping them out of source control (e.g. locking their current version) ?

  A problem that I stumbled upon recently, and, even though I solved it, I would like to hear your opinion of what correct/simple/adopted solution would be. I'm developing website using Django + python. When I run it on local machine with "python manage.py runserver", local address is http://127.0.0.1:8000/ by default. However, on production server my app has other url, with path - like "http://server.name/myproj/" I need to generate and use permanent urls. If I'm using {% url view params %}, I'm getting paths that are relative to / , since my urls.py contains this urlpatterns = patterns('', (r'^(\d+)?$', 'myproj.myapp.views.index'), (r'^img/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/img' }), (r'^css/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/css' }), ) So far, I see 2 solutions: modify urls.py, include '/myproj/' in case of production run use request.build_absolute_uri() for creating link in views.py or pass some variable with 'hostname:port/path' in templates Are there prettier ways to deal with this problem? Thank you. Update: Well, the problem seems to be not in django, but in webfaction way to configure wsgi. Apache configuration for application with URL "hostname.com/myapp" contains the following line WSGIScriptAlias / /home/dreamiurg/webapps/pinfont/myproject.wsgi So, SCRIPT_NAME is empty, and the only solution I see is to get to mod_python or serve my application from root. Any ideas?

  I'm setting up nginx with multiple domain or wildcard support for convenience sake, rather than setting up 50+ different sites-available/* files. Hopefully this is enough to show you what I'm trying to do. Some are static sites, some are dynamic with usually wordpress installed. If an index.php exists, everything works as expected. If a file is requested that does not exist (missing.html), a 500 error is given due to the rewrite. The logged error is: *112 rewrite or internal redirection cycle while processing "/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/index.php/missing.html" The basic nginx configuration I'm currently using is: ` listen 80 default; server _; ... location / { root /var/www/$host; if (-f $request_filename) { expires max; break; } # problem, what if index.php does not exist? if (!-e $request_filename) { rewrite ^/(.*)$ /index.php/$1 last; } } ... ` If an index.php does not exist, and the file also does not exist, I would like it to error 404. Currently, nginx does not support multiple condition if's or nested if so I need a workaround.

• How do you handle passwords or credentials for standalone applications?

  Let's say that you have a standalone application (a Java application in my case) and that this application has a configuration file (a XML file in my case) where you store the credentials (user and password) for a bunch of databases you need to connect. Everything works great, but now you discover (or your are given a new requirement like me) that you have to put this application in a different server and that you can't have these credentials in the configuration files because of security and/or compliance considerations. I'm considering to use data sources hosted in the application server (a WAS server), but I think this could have poor performance and maybe it's not the best approach since I'm connecting from a standalone application. I was also considering to use some sort of encryption, but I would like to keep things as simple as possible. How would you handle this case? Where would you put these credentials or protect them from being compromised? Or how would you connect to your databases in this scenario?

• Seam app with JBoss 'minimal' Config?

  I'd like to improve the performance of my Seam apps and JBoss appserver, particularly by removing things that aren't necessary in the standard configuration. Ideally, I'd like to be able to run it using the "minimal" profile. Can anyone give me any guidance as to what is needed to run a Seam app using "minimal"? Here are the kind of things my app requires: JPA, using Hibernate with a PostgreSQL backend EJB3 JSF (RichFaces/Facelets) E-mail, eventually, although not required at this particular moment I'll be developing my app using JBoss Tools on Eclipse, so I would also need anything that is required by the tools for development and deployment. I've found that the default configuration just has too many additional components and features installed by default, and that greatly affects performance when I'm trying to develop. Any help you can give would be great! Thanks!
