  • why can't i boot from cd rom?

    my xp sp3 o/s system is alread set to boot from cd rom 1st, but once the bootable cd is found and i get the "Press any key to Load " (or something like that) my keyboard and mouse will not work until windows begins to load. Any ideas on why and what the fix may be?

  • I have a new seagate 3tb hard drive and when i installed it it says 349gb free

    my new seagate sata drive keeps showing as a 249gb drive but in the setup part when i press del at the boot up it states there a 3000gb drive and i have searched for a solution but havent found one yet. I havent tried in a different pc yet and I have an asus gaming board with 2 video cards sli'ed and i have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit with 8gb ram and a hp 23" widescreen monitor and the sniper gaming case and a salitek lighted up gaming keyboard and a razor death adder gaming mouse and a corsair 850 watt power supply.   • Disable Charm bar's Touchpad gesture shortcut

    I'm using an Acer AO722 laptop. Everytime I slide my finger from the right edge of the touchpad (where the slider is) toward the center (mostly accidentally), the charmbar pops up and stays on the screen until I manually click on some random spots on the screen. There's no such option in the Synaptics properties: .. nor is there any in the mouse option. Is there a way to turn this shortcut off?

    Cooling fan necessary for a laptop similar to the ASUS K73E? I'm not entirely sure about this, after working with one the other day for a client, it seemed like it was running pretty cool, but I'm not sure if the computer was actually running cool or if it had more to do with IceCool Technology feature that keeps the mouse and palm rest area cool. The bottom of the laptop didn't seem very warm either...does anyone have any experience with the ASUS K73E where the thing burned up with normal usage?

  • Remote Desktop to Windows 2008 hosted in VirtualBox makes host unresponsive

    I have installed Windows 2008 R2 SP1 in a VirtualBox VM. It works fine, except that if I Remote Desktop (RDP) to the VM from the host (machine running VirtualBox, Windows 7 SP1), after a minute or so the windows shell becomes unresponsive. I can no longer start task manager, open the start menu or switch applications. Keyboard input also drops some keys. Mouse movement is not affected. Any idea what is causing this? NB: This is Windows RDP, not the remote display built into VirtualBox

  • HTLM notes in freemind

    Hi, I wonder if the following things can be done with the HTML notes pane of freemind: 1- is it possible on the layout view to decrease the separation between lines? 2- the panel is horizontal, is it possible to setup a vertical view? (I have a big, horizontal-like monitor) By the way, when I move the mouse pointer over a node, i can see the HTLM note associated with it, but its view (as a yellow square) only lasts for some seconds.     On my Ubuntu 12.04 I connected my monitor to the onboard intel graphics. I'd like to use my ati radeon 6770 for opencl tasks (e.g. bitcoin mining). So far I couldn't figure out how to get the ati driver working. When calling "aticonfig --initial -f" it always writes a new xorg.conf that ignores the intel graphics. At boot time it works only when I attached the monitor to the ati card.     Ever since FireFox 4, page tabs have been moved to the top of the window. This gets pretty irritating when surfing the net through a remote desktop session. Often when I want to switch tabs, if I accidentally move my mouse a little to much to the top, I get the remote desktop connection bar blocking the tabs instead, then I'd have to wait a few frustrating seconds before it disappears again. So, are there any methods to shrink or shorten the remote desktop connection bar or delay the appearance of it?

  • How do I disable a laptop's build-in keyboard on ubuntu?

    I have a Kinesis keyboard that I ideally like to use by placing it on top of my laptop. When I do that, I wind up pressing keys on the built-in keyboard with my external keyboard. I've been playing around with the GUI keyboard controls and reading the ubuntu forums for a couple hours without really any forward progress. Even a hacky solution or a pointer to a good library for configuring multiple keyboards differently would be much appreciated. thanks.

    I use the auto-hide taskbar feature and I have problems with Google Chrome when it is maximized: the taskbar will not pop up at mouse hover over the taskbar position (really annoying). I know that Google admits it is a bug and it hasn't been fixed yet, and probably it will never be fixed. My question is if you know a workaround to avoid this issue.

  • Windows XP: Make Google Chrome's minimize, restore and close buttons match other programs?

    I like the way Google Chrome puts the tabs above the address bar, but I don't like the way the minimize, restore, close buttons are a different shape to every other program's. It means that if I sit the mouse in the top corner and minimize everything, I find that I've restored Chrome, not minimized it. Is there any way to get these buttons to a normal shape and size? That's Firefox in front, looking normal, like every other program, and Chrome above and behind, with the buttons at an off-standard position and size.

  • Disable scroll acceleration (windows/lenovo)

    Exactly the opposite of http://superuser.com/questions/101482/global-scroll-acceleration-in-windows, is there a way to disable scroll-accelartion on windows (touchpad -- maybe from lenovo drivers). It's heck of annoying -- using no accelartion but high sensitivity like on linux is so much more precise. ( With this silly acceleration, I either have incredibly slow scrolling, or scrolling so fast it skips whole chunks of text at once. Speed control but not acceleration control. Could say the same for mouse cursor, though that's less annoying. )
