• How to time-delay email deliveries?

  I'm currently learning about the Drupal email functions, such as drupal_mail and hook_mail, and hook_mail_alter, and I have a problem before me where I'll need to be able to queue emails for delayed delivery. For example, an event signup notification that needs to wait for an hour after the event was registered by a user. And that email has user specific data, so can't be just a generic template email... I'm using the MailQ module, mainly for it's logging capabilities, but I wonder if it (or something else) could be modified to add a configurable delay function? Any ideas?

• Next generation of command shells?

  I am curious about if there is any project about a replacement for the current unix-shells (like bash, ash, rsh ...), at least adding some new ideas or paradigm in this area. I was searching but i found very few information, this project http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendly_interactive_shell seems interesting, but not so diferent from the nowadays solutions. What do you think? Do you imagine a linux-distribution on 2020 that still having bash? How can be an evolution of this programs? Br To be clearer, about new ideas, i was talking of something like: control-Z functionality Colaboration features (like remote desktop) so you can invite someone to join and participate on your shell session Possibility to see the result of a command before to really apply it to your system (this is closely related with the 1st point ctl-Z) etc...

• Is there a quick way to remove browser decorations

  I'm finding that more and more applications use browsers as their user interface and I am caught in a dilemma. When browsing I want a browser window to have browser buttons, navigation icons, etc. When I'm using the browser for an application like twitter or yammer then I don't need those and having them just reduces the application area. I would rather save the vertical space and have a very sparse undecorated window. The problem is it does not seem easy to do this. My initial thought was to just install two different browsers. For example use Firefox with all the toolbars and then set IE to show no toolbars. I think this is ok but I would like a cleaner solution. Maybe a plugin in Firefox that turns everything off easily or something.

• Ubuntu 10.04 not detecting multiple monitors

  I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card? How do I get this to work. Thanks. • How to detect a change in a background window

  Hi, Let's say I have a chat window open in a web browser, and I'm waiting for a message from my partner, trying to do something else in the meantime. The chat window (not an installed program) will not alert me of an incoming message, nor will the task bar flash or anything. Is there any utility that can help me? In search of a solution, I came across AutoHotKey. There is a script called livewindows.ahk, which will show a piece of the window anywhere on the screen, but it won't alert me on a change. I'm not skilled enough to know how to store and compare e.g. every second's content of some window area. Maybe someone has invented this wheel? Thanks in advance for any hint or advice. Leonardo

• How can I get the path to a Windows service executable WITHOUT using sc qc?

  I need to query a windows service for the path to it's executable via the command prompt. I think the way I would do this is:sc qc myServiceName, but when I do that, I get the following error: [SC] QueryServiceConfig FAILED 122: The data area passed to a system call is too small. [SC] GetServiceConfig needs 1094 bytes I think this means that the sc command is sending a data structure to some other library that is too small for the data that needs to be returned. Instead of SC nicely retrying with a larger data structure (1094 bytes) it bombs out and gives me this ugly error message. Thanks Micro$oft. So is there a way to work around this error? I just need the path to the executable, but will parse it out of some other text if needed.

• Coldfusion 9 installation problem with IIS7

  Windows web server 2008 R2 64 bit, CF9 64 bit, IIS7, ISAPI extensions and filters and II6 metabase compatability installed. OS is on C default, and trying to install CF to D: Testing IIS and it shows index.html correctly from c:\inetpub\wwwroot at http://localhost/index.html Then I install CF to D:\ , single standard server licence, select run with all IIS sites, select C:\inetpub\wwwroot as the web root for administrator, and when it gets to the bit where it is supposed to open up administrator to complete the installation it opens up the browser with a 500 error. Now when I go back to http://localhost/index.html I also get a 500 error, if i uninstall CF I can again reach the html page. CFIDE has been installed in C:\inetpub\wwwroot presumably correctly. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong please. Update The exact IIS error is HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.   Hi everyone, I'm struggling to understand the Android AccountManager API. As far as I got thinks working I can use the blockingGetAuthToken method and specify whether Android should provide a notification for user to allow or deny the request. Another possibility is to use getAuthToken and check if KEY_INTENT is returned. If that's the case I could start a new Activity where the user can confirm my request. My problem is that I would like to call one of these two methods from within a Service. Is there any chance to get a callback once the user has made a decision? Thanks for your help

• How do I enable in-place tablet pc input panel for non tablet PCs?

  Hi all, Is it possible to enable the in-place tablet PC input panel on a non-tablet PC? I have checked the "For tablet pen input, show the Input Panel icon next to the text entry area when possible" checkbox in the options of the Input Panel. Does this not work because pen input is something different than mouse input? I do have a touch screen, but it just emulates a mouse (moving the cursor, pressing the left mouse button and such). I can get the Input Panel to show manually by starting tabtip.exe and then event the ink works, but I cannot get it to show (itself or it's in-place icon) when I activate text input controls. Does anyone know what's up?

  I just took over the IT for a medium sized business with a three domain controllers (2003/2008 Standard) and whenever I create a new user, after some time the user account cannot log into most machines on the network. I have traced this back to the "Log On To..." area becoming populated with a small list of machines. Even when I set the option to all computers, this list comes back after some time. I started hunting for vbs and ps1 scripts with the word "workstations" in them on all domain controllers to see if there is some kind of script to blame, but I have thus far come up empty handed. Is there a known software suite that can cause this (Microsoft Forefront, etc)? How can I figure out what is causing this list to change?

  Are there any security concerns one should be aware of if you're using Windows' default workgroup as the workgroup? (Or is worrying just tinfoiling?) Should it be commonplace to rename the workgroup to something personal/unique after Windows installation? Are there any other benefits in renaming the workgroup from the default besides making it to look more describing? Ie. is renaming worth the hassle as it makes the workgroup generally less accessible? It is used in local area network after all.

  None of the basic table AutoFormat schemes in LibreOffice Writer have both an alternation style defined and no sum column/row style defined. If they have alternation, they always seem to have sums. Because of this I'd like to define my own table scheme. What is the easiest way to accomplish this? A WYSIWYG isn't totally necessary. I am not scared of editing simple XML files as long as I have examples to work from, and if I don't have to edit base install files. If I can place them in a custom area or my user profile directory then that would be best. If there is a way to get the GUI Add functionality to properly recognize an alternation then that would also be helpful.

• Problem with Hyperic monitoring on CloudFoundry - frequent alerts

  Hi, I'm running single instance CloudFoundry configuration with one web application. I turned on Hyperic monitoring with notification for case of web app unavailability. Now I randomly receive alert emails (Subject "An alert has been triggered - Deployment myapp - context unavailable") that the application is not running, but it obviously is running fine. In access log of Apache I see two requests every 15 seconds: 127.0.0.1 - - [17/Mar/2010:15:37:33 +0100] "GET /server-status?auto HTTP/1.1" 200 438 "-" "Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/3.1" 127.0.0.1 - - [17/Mar/2010:15:37:33 +0100] "GET /myapp HTTP/1.1" 200 - "-" "Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/3.1" At the time when I get the alert emails, everything in log still seems to be fine - two requests. • LTO 3 tape drive needing repaired

  We have an IBM LTO 3 tape drive that needs repaired and with the £400 price tag i'm having to shop around for quotes. My question is has anyone actually repaired one before and how was in done? The first error LED was showing a 6, then i cleared the mangled tape only for it to start flashing alternate 'o' on the 7 segment display, simliar to a half 8, flashing top to bottom and it would just flash away like that coupled with a flashing amber light. I tried a reset holding the eject button for it to show an 'r' the go back to flashing again as before. I checked the IBM solutions for the codes but this flashing isn't documented at all. Would be great if anyone had any experience in this area. Thank you, Paul

  The problem is as follows: I have 2 windows2003 server instances running on the cloud. 1) How can I create a local area network from these 2 instances? 2) Assuming that I want to create a VPN network from these 2 instances, how do I do that? What I tried: 1) Setting up OpenVPN, but I got lost in the process. 2) Creating a VPN from windows2003 server in the following manner: on instance a): set up a dhcp server; set up an "accept income vpn" connection; with the followin tcp ip settings: obtain an ip from the dhcp server; on instance b): created a new vpn connection, tried to connect to intance A, using the instance A static IP but error 806 was thrown, something relate to a GRE protocol.

  I have been running Virtual Box on a Macbook Pro for a year or more, with an old version of Windows XP running on the virtual machine. Recently my Mac battery dies completely and I had left VB / Windows running. When I re-started the Mac, VB would not load. I reinstalled a recent download of VB from a DMG file I had stored. Now VB starts but when I try to start the virtual machine I get the following message, Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows XP. Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUPLIB_WRITE_NON_SYS_GROUP). Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb} I have been backing up the MAC using Time Machine and have backups going back months. I really need to access the windows files as they have my Accounts and other business critical stuff. But basically, what happens is on my MacBook (latest model) whenever I 'flip' a Dashboard Widget I hear a little noise for the duration of the flip: like a tiny continuous squeak noise. It's quite strange. However, it only ever happens when the MagSafe cable is plugged in. WHY?! :'( The noise appears to me emitted from the MagSafe area itself, but, there's not any other CoreAnimation or Quartzey bits that cause this to happen, it only happens with Dashboard widgets... The noise is very quiet and you can only hear it in a silent room. Edit: Running the latest Snow Leopard.

  Hi, I tried to save data and merge with CoreData and multi-thread for iPhone app. But I can't get managed objects in the main thread after merging. We have a mixture of copper (both ethernet and telephone), multi-mode fibre and single-mode fibre. We have all types of connectors: RJ-11, RJ-45, LC, SC, FC, SMA and several I probably forgot about. We have a lot of people working in the area, and keeping track of cables is turning into a full time job. So, here are a the questions: What types and lengths of cable do you keep in stock on site? Do you make your own or buy pre-made? Adapters? Dampeners? How do you manage cable inventory? How do you label the cables? Any other tricks to stop this from driving me crazy?
