  • Add event to all elements except the given with jQuery

    Hey everyone I created a date picker that uses ajax to populate an element with an id of calendarContainer. When the user clicks on a button to bring the calendar up, I want the user to be able to click anywhere else on the screen besides the calendar and have it hide. The calendarContainer is at the root of the dom and I have tried everything I can think of to get this working. I have gotten the calendar to go away when it is not clicked on. However, when I click on the calendar it is also going away. I only want the calendar to go away when it is not clicked on. Also, if there are more than 6 websites, I want to limit it to the first 6 Dynamic pivot makes sense, but I would have to incorporate it into my view ?? Is there a simpler solution for this ?   • How do I delete folders in bash after successful copy (Mac OSX)?

    Hello! I recently created my first bash script, and I am having problems perfecting it's operation. I am trying to copy certain folders from one local drive, to a network drive. I am having the problem of deleting folders once they are copied over, well and also really verifying that they were copied over). Is there a better way to try to delete folders after rsync is done copying? I was trying to exclude the live tv buffer folder, but really, I can blow it away without consequence if need be.   • How to make CSS URL background images show up in localhost?

    Hi guys, I just installed xampp and I brought one of my live sites into it to be able to start working from localhost. So to view my site, I navigate to localhost/example.com I noticed some issues with images when on my html, I had for example: <img src="/new_pictures/05.jpg" alt="Central Market"/> Image wouldn't show up, but then I removed the / and this works: <img src="new_pictures/05.jpg" alt="Central Market"/> I seem to have a similar problem with the CSS background image, but I can't get it to work-if I remove the / there, the image doesn't show up on the live site. How do I make the background image show up on localhost?   • Tools for managing code deployment/versioning for IIS / Windows enviroments

    I've got a strong background in Linux and OSX, and just left a job where I was architecting systems based on those platforms. Now I've got a Windows Server running IIS that has a number of different websites that it hosts. Most of them are just a bunch of HTML, JS and Images, with some ASP for some customer tools. (Each website has a different set of customer tools, or they are the same tools, but with minor code changes between them.) I'm also adding a develop web server with the same code, but the 'bleeding edge' stuff. I need an effective way of managing changes and updates to the overall codebase (henceforth referring to both the images and the html and the asp, for all the sites). When a dev (or webmaster) checks in changes, I want it to show up automatically on the developer server, but should be manually pushed out to the live server. I'd be tempted to just make the websites SVN repositories, but I'd be concerned about the overhead of having the webdeveloper having to log into the server and trigger an SVN update via commandline/tortise (and heaven forbid, manage tags). Ideally I'd also manage IIS profile settings between the systems, but the major need is to be able to manage the process, and expose it to our ASP developer, and our webmaster, both of which are used to just FTPing up the files to the live site. So, any recommendations on tools (beyond some SVN hacking with BAT files + teaching the webmaster how to log into the server and do updates) or workflows that would help this out? I even considered an RPM type package (or some Windows equivalent, of course) to manage the live server, but that seems like a bit too much overhead. Thanks.

    Which one gives you more advantages: Microsoft or SUN/Oracle certification? If you don't mind, please relate your answer to your career (dev, sys-admin, dba), industry (finance, general consulting, business apps, software house), and location (where you live, does it influence your decision?) as well. One reason I asked this because I heard that having MCP (in C#, MCSAD or whatever the cert is called these days) could give you extra point from the employer perspective if they're a Microsoft Partner. I don't quite understand why and am also wondering if SUN/Oracle certificate holder have similar edge/benefit. I'm also interested to know if Certification plays role where you live. For example: certification could be a big negative sign in Silicon Valley, but might be helpful if you're in other US/Canada cities or outside USA/Canada. If you are an independent software consultant, do these certification helps you win bids? I totally understand that this question might be subjective and could be "closed". But it doesn't hurt to ask I suppose. I also understand that there are people who dislike/disagree (or have negative perspective on technology certification). While there are people who have the opinion that "these are not the kind of employers you would want to work with", I respect you guys, but sometime a pure software product company might not exist in certain cities in the world. And if certification can help one's career somewhere else, I guess that means more opportunities right? I've had experienced in both platforms: (short) .NET and (not too long) Java (minus Oracle DB stuff), but I think it's about time I have to pick one of them and be good at. Where I live right now might also dictates my career albeit insignificant. Anyhow, this last paragraph is just tiny blurb. Thanks!

  • How to speed up drawing of scaled image? Audio playback chokes during window resize.

    I am writing an audio player for OSX. One view is a custom view that displays a waveform. The waveform is stored as a instance variable of type NSImage with an NSBitmapImageRep. The view also displays a progress indicator (a thick red line). Therefore, it is updated/redrawn every 30 milliseconds. Since it takes a rather long time to recalculate the image, I do that in a background thread after every window resize and update the displayed image once the new image is ready. In the meantime, the original image is scaled to fit the view like this: // The drawing rectangle is slightly smaller than the view, defined by // the two margins. NSRect drawingRect; drawingRect.origin = NSMakePoint(sideEdgeMarginWidth, topEdgeMarginHeight); drawingRect.size = NSMakeSize([self bounds].size.width-2*sideEdgeMarginWidth, [self bounds].size.height-2*topEdgeMarginHeight); [waveform drawInRect:drawingRect fromRect:NSZeroRect operation:NSCompositeSourceOver fraction:1]; The view makes up the biggest part of the window. During live resize, audio starts choking. Selecting the "big" graphic card on my Macbook Pro makes it less bad, but not by much. CPU utilization is somewhere around 20-40% during live resizes. Instruments suggests that rescaling/redrawing of the image is the problem. Once I stop resizing the window, CPU utilization goes down and audio stops glitching. I already tried to disable image interpolation to speed up the drawing like this: [[NSGraphicsContext currentContext] setImageInterpolation:NSImageInterpolationNone]; That helps, but audio still chokes during live resizes. Do you have an idea how to improve this? The main thing is to prevent the audio from choking.

  • Git development?production workflow – how to set up repo?

    I'm working on a relatively small, but fast-changing project (a web application) with a few other developers. We're using Git for source control. We started out creating a stable branch which is what is deployed to the live production web server. The master branch is what is deployed to a secondary "unstable" server for testing purposes. Whenever we felt that the master branch was ready to go live, we merged it into stable. However, we came to a point where we wanted one of the later master commits, but not some of the commits before it, so we used cherry-pick to pull that change into stable. This creates a new commit with the same change as the one in master, and it feels as if we're losing the nice history that Git otherwise provides. Are there better ways of handling this type of unstable/stable deployment model? One solution I thought of was using feature branches, and only ever merging a feature branch into master once we want it to go live. Then we'll tag every deployment instead of having a stable branch.

  • Can I read an Outlook (2003/2007) PST file in C#?

    Is it possible to read a .PST file using C#? I would like to do this as a standalone application, not as an Outlook addin (if that is possible). If have seen other SO questions similar to this mention MailNavigator but I am looking to do this programmatically in C#. I have looked at the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook namespace but that appears to be just for Outlook addins. LibPST appears to be able to read PST files, but this is in C (sorry Joel, I didn't learn C before graduating). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! EDIT: Thank you all for the responses!     As per the MSDN documentation with the Office 2007 system, office Addins are registered under HKCU and not under HKLM. I have an Outlook 2007 addin which is also registered under HKCU. But the problem is that, even non admin users can also disable the addin since it is in HKCU. However with Outlook2003 addin this was not possible because it got registered in HKLM. I also see some of the Outlook 2007 addins that are registered under HKLM like Microsoft VBA for Outlook Addin, Microsoft outlook Mobile service. When a non admin user tries to disable it, outlook displays a pop up message saying that these addins are registered in HKLM and user does not have the permission to disable it. So How can I register my Outlook 2007 addin under HKLM like these?

  • Synchronising tables across remote Access databases

    Hi folks, I'm helping out a business by providing an Access DB to manage requests of various types. As they are a construction company, they have one machine in an 'office' on the building site, plus 3 based in their main office. The machine on site has no internet connectivity. Is there any (reasonably simple) way to synchronise these databases every so often? I realise the tables could be merged, but each has an autoincrement field which must be synced between instances (i.e. when merging two tables the autoincrement should be reassigned based on the combination of records). Then I use the following code to grab the and put it in a string variable. However, I have tried multiple regex statements to replace the new line character with "" but nothing I have tried has worked...   • Exporting Reports from SSRS Report Manager

    I have several SSRS reports which have a textbox at the bottom with a link to a privacy notice page. Some of my users will export these reports to an Excel workbook or a Word document. When the users export the reports, the reporting engine does not include the link in the office documents. When exported as as PDF or HTML, the link to the notice is also exported as expected. Is there a way for me to configure or force the office documents to include the link to the notice and ensure that it is also exported?

  • How do you find time for improving your programming skills?

    I'm a Java/J2ee programmer working in India. I'm very passionate about programming and I constantly strive to hone my programming skills by reading blogs, solving Project euler questions, learning new technologies, developing small apps etc;. But I find it very difficult to manage my time. Working for 12 hrs a day in office leaves me stressed out and spend my weekends with my family. So i hardly have like 5-6 hrs per week to actually work on something of my interest which will help me improve. How do you manage time so that you find time to improve your current standing? EDIT: 12 hours includes 1hour of travel & 1 hr of break(lunch/coffee). Effectively I work for 10 hours per day in office which is mandated by my organization. -Snehal

  • Why doesn't my CreateRibbonExtensibilityObject method get called?

    Hi I've been tinkering around with the two techniques to modify the ribbon with an MS Word addin (Visual Studio 2010, .NET 3.5), a Microsoft.Office.Tools.Ribbon.OfficeRibbon and Microsoft.Office.Core.IRibbonExtensibility. I was hoping to switch between the two in my addin's CreateRibbonExtensibilityObject, but for some reason it is not called now. The documentation says that if an addin implements CreateRibbonExtensibilityObject that it will be called. When I create a fresh project to test doing this very thing, it works. I'd prefer not to abandon my project as-is. Any ideas? Thank you.

Also when I close the spell checker the main form is back to normal. It seems like it is opening up Microsoft word then hiding the window, only allowing the spell checker to be seen. Please help.

  • Query an XmlDocument without getting a 'Namespace prefix is not defined' problem

    I've got an Xml document that both defines and references some namespaces. I load it into an XmlDocument object and to the best of my knowledge I create a XmlNamespaceManager object with which to query Xpath against. Problem is I'm getting XPath exceptions that the namespace "my" is not defined. How do I get the namespace manager to see that the namespaces I am referencing are already defined. Or rather how do I get the namespace definitions from the document to the namespace manager. Furthermore tt strikes me as strange that you have to provide a namespace manager to the document which you create from the documents nametable in the first place. Even if you need to hardcode manual namespaces why can't you add them directly to the document. Why do you always have to pass this namespace manager with every single query? What can't XmlDocument just know? Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application oApp = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application(); AddressList gal = oApp.Session.GetGlobalAddressList(); ...with the aim of eventually being able to search through this in my own application to retrieve contact information which I can then supply to a method that squirrels off an email. Unfortunately given that my own GAL has about 20K entries in (the customers much more) using a foreach or something simply doesn't work in an acceptable timeframe. I want to pass a string like "Tom" to a method and have it return a list of possible contacts. Is this possible outside of actually opening up Outlook and creating the mail there? Note: There are a couple of other questions similar to this but most seem to have no good answer. I'm hoping I have more luck.

  • Wordpress order/sort problem

    Hi, The Problem: I would like to sort my posts based on custom fields, when the user clicks on a link. I don't know if there is a parameter that can be passed via url to reorder posts. Comparison: I would like it to work similar to how you can sort songs in iTunes. The user simply clicks the "Artist" button and the songs are reorder alphabetically by artist's name. Example: The custom field could be the location where I was when I wrote the post. "Location = home" or "Location = office" etc. When the user click a links the page is reload with the posts reordered. Posts from home before ones from the office. Thanks for the help.
