    why does the following js expression: "test1 foo bar test2".replace(/foo.bar/, "$'") result in the following string? "test1 test2 test2" is the $' in the replace string some sort of control code for including everything after the match??? this behavior was screwing with me most of the day. can anyone explain this? thanks a lot ps- this is the case in all browsers i've tested

    I need a regex expert to help out on this one. Examples I've found on here and the net I cant seem to get right. I'm using PHP and I have the following regex expression /([^a-zA-Z0-9])GC([A-Z0-9]+)/ This matches items like GCABCD GC123A, etc. What i need to do is EXCLUDE GCSTATS from this. So basically I want it to work just as it has, except, ignore GCSTATS in the regex.

    I need to use VBA to determine the number of arguments passed to an Excel formula. For instance, suppose a cell contains the formula =MyFunc($A$1, "xyz", SUM(1,2,COUNT(C1:C12)), IF(B12,1,0)). Then the counter function should return 4. Does VBA contain any built-in functions for this, or does someone have an example of a regular expression that could calculate this?

    Hi, I'm working on a regular expression that will only return true when a date string is in a format something like 'ddd, dd mmm yy'. Valid matches would be values like "Sun, 20 Jun 10" or "Mon, 21 Jun 10" but not "Sunday, 20 Jun 10" or "20 Jun 10". This will be used with mb_ereg in PHP.     Hi there, Is there a way to retrieve tables, including alias tables, and columns, including alias columns, from an Apache Torque Criteria object reliably? I understand that there is methods like: getSelectedColumns, getAsColumns(), getJoins(), etc., but for examples, getJoins() will just return a list of joined tables strings in free text, where one has to use regular expression to extract the needed joined table information out of it.     I have a NetBeans project and the Mercurial repository is in the project root. I would like it to ignore everything except the contents of the "src" and "test" folders, and .hgignore itself. I'm not familiar with regular expressions and can't come up with one that will do that. The ones I tried: (?!src/.*) (?!test/.*) (?!^.hgignore) (?!src/.|test/.|.hgignore) These seem to ignore everything, I can't figure out why. Any advice would be great.

    This is the standard question, "How do I set a process limit for a user account in Linux to prevent fork-bombing," with an additional twist. The running program originates as a root-owned Python process, which then setuids/setgids itself as a regular user. As far as I know, at this point, any limits set in /etc/security/limits.conf do not apply; the setuid-ed process may now fork bomb. Any ideas how to prevent this?

  • Cleaning an XML file in Python before parsing

    I'm using minidom to parse an xml file and it threw an error indicating that the data is not well formed. I figured out that some of the pages have characters like ไอเฟล &, causing the parser to hiccup. Is there an easy way to clean the file before I start parsing it? Right now I'm using a regular expressing to throw away anything that isn't an alpha numeric character and the </> characters, but it isn't quite working.
