• Daemon for moving files between partitions?

  I have a system with Ubuntu installed in 20GB and windows in 100 GB, two partitions - each of 100GB using NTFS. While using DC++ (multiple downloading of big file) I used to get message that system is running out of memory. Is there any way to make a deamon which will be checking the Ubuntu partition so that if its used space goes up to a certain amount (let's say 18 GB) it will automatically start a moving file from this drive to another drive (let's assume it will pick the file from movie folder or largest media file from this drive to move)? Or it prompt to ask from user which file to move? Is there any program which can do this for me? If not, can you suggest something to read so that I could make it?

  Hello. I'm trying to calculate the dot-product of two very sparse associative arrays. The arrays contain an ID and a value, so the calculation should be done only on those IDs that are common to both arrays, e.g. <(1, 0.5), (3, 0.7), (12, 1.3) * <(2, 0.4), (3, 2.3), (12, 4.7) = 0.7*2.3 + 1.3*4.7 . My implementation (call it dict) currently uses Dictionaries, but it is too slow to my taste. double dot_product(IDictionary<int, double> arr1, IDictionary<int, double> arr2) { double res = 0; double val2; foreach (KeyValuePair<int, double> p in arr1) if (arr2.TryGetValue(p.Key, out val2)) res += p.Value * val2; return res; } The full arrays have about 500,000 entries each, while the sparse ones are only tens to hundreds entries each. I did some experiments with toy versions of dot products. First I tried to multiply just two double arrays to see the ultimate speed I can get (let's call this "flat"). Then I tried to change the implementation of the associative array multiplication using an int[] ID array and a double[] values array, walking together on both ID arrays and multiplying when they are equal (let's call this "double"). I then tried to run all three versions with debug or release, with F5 or Ctrl-F5. The results are as follows: debug F5: dict: 5.29s double: 4.18s (79% of dict) flat: 0.99s (19% of dict, 24% of double) debug ^F5: dict: 5.23s double: 4.19s (80% of dict) flat: 0.98s (19% of dict, 23% of double) release F5: dict: 5.29s double: 3.08s (58% of dict) flat: 0.81s (15% of dict, 26% of double) release ^F5: dict: 4.62s double: 1.22s (26% of dict) flat: 0.29s ( 6% of dict, 24% of double) I don't understand these results. Why isn't the dictionary version optimized in release F5 as do the double and flat versions? Why is it only slightly optimized in the release ^F5 version while the other two are heavily optimized?   I installed Ubuntu on my laptop which when I got it I had Fedora 13 installed on it as the OS. Now I want to install Fedora 18 in a dual boot with Ubuntu. Problem is when I installed Ubuntu, I didn't partition for dual boot and I gave the entire hard drive to Ubuntu and no longer have the space to dual boot. How can I lower the partition on Ubuntu to make space on the hard drive for Fedora? I want to split the hard drive 50/50 between the two. Thanks in advance.

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on external HDD. How can I boot it? I used grub4dos before, and it worked with Fedora distributions. Problem I have now is that I don't know which initrd and vmlinuz files to use. Tried with one I have in /boot directory, but booting did not worked... Can you give me some ideas what to try, do i have to use different initrd and vmlinuz, or I can solve this with other solutions. Also, just to mention that boot goes to BusyBox v1.18.4 command prompt. Thank you in advance!

  I am new to this but I have watched many video how to dual boot Ubuntu with windows 8. I have HP pavilion g6 notebook with 4 GB RAM and Intel i5 processor. I am installing Ubuntu 13.10 with windows 8. In the process of installation I select something else then make some partion as mentioned here. /dev/sda6. 2048 mb of swap area /dev/sda7. 18 GB of / And then I click on install. When installation starts it stuck when grub is installing And message arose as grub install dummy fails. This is a fatal error. I have searched about this on Google many others have faced same problem but none of them helped me. I think the problem is of uefi system. Is there any way so I can dual boot Ubuntu with windows 8.

I really love coding, which got me wondering about college, what I can study to get into the software business. However, I would like to earn some money now, so I can spend it on better hardware, on development tools or on other hobbies. This is hard because I don't have any work experience nor have I done any programming-related studies. It's also not legal for me to do any freelancing jobs as I'm under the age of 18. • Excel duration converts to date

  I'm working on an Excel 2010 spreadsheet and I'm trying to put in durations for some tasks I want to schedule.The interesting thing is that up until a few minutes ago, I couldn't do it.I was entering in "47:00" and excel was (and still is) converting it to "1/1/1900 23:00:00"In my mind, I want the value to be 47 minutes, but for the life of me I cannot find a fix for this behavior.Here's the weirdest thing, I haven't had this problem in the past.  Usually I put in times, add them up and they work like magic.  Put in 18 entries of 20 minutes each, total them and excel will usually tell me that it's a total of 6 hours.No problem.Today, problem.Here's the weird bit:As I was writing this post, I got it to work.By formatting the column as custom "[hh]:mm" and summing the columns, I can get total times.But the times are still being formatted into dates if I look at the underlying data.  Bottom line, if you need to calculate durations, you can, but don't look too closely at what is happening underneath the covers.

  I don't know if I'm alone but sometimes I have a function that should return true or false. But in some case there would be a third result that would make more sense. In some language theses cases would be handled with integers or with exception. For exemple you want to handle the age of a user if he is over 18 years old. And you have a function like this. if(user.isAdult(country_code)){ //Go On }else{ // Block access or do nothing } But in some case depending how your app is built I could see case where the birthday field is incomplete. Then this function should return something undetermined. switch(user.isAdult()){ case true: // go on break; case undetermined: //Inform user birthday is incomplete case false: //Block access } As i said we can handle that with Exceptions and Int, but I would find it quite sexy to have a true, false, undetermined embeded in the language instead of using some home defined constants.
