How can I create "glass" effect on my own UIViews?

Hi there, I'm working on an iPhone app that has some non-rectangular UI elements. Currently, I'm subclassing UIView, and in drawRect I'm using a CGPathRef to draw black border and a color-filled interior. I'd like to make these items look more like "buttons", though, so I'd like to have some of the same sort of "glass effects" that are used on e.g. the icons for an iPhone app (when you don't set UIPrerenderedIcon to true), or in other buttons. I hunted around, and found this, which seems to be close to what I need: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/422066/gradients-on-uiview-and-uilabels-on-iphone But I'm having difficulty figuring out how to clip the gradient to my shape. It seems like the mask property on the view would be the right place to go, which seems like it would call for me to create a new CALayer object, with the clipping somehow applied to it. I'm hoping there's some nice convenience function for doing this, though if I need to write something more complicated, that's OK, too. I'm just having difficulty figuring out how to apply the path as a mask. I'm unsure if I need to create a new drawing context and draw the path into it? And then use CGContextClip? I think I've got a lot of the right pieces figured out, I'm just having difficulty understanding how to assemble them. Could someone please point me in the right direction? (I'm happy to read more in the docs, just point me in the right direction, please.)

CSS column height different on Opera/IE to FF

Hi all, Thanks to everyone who helped with my last question but I've got a new browser-independent problem: For some reason, the image navigator (not yet functioning) on a website I'm working on is currently not displaying in the correct place on Firefox. It appears in the right place in IE8 and Opera but Firefox seems to have a problem with it. As can be seen in the below image, the imageContainer div (the image and the left/right arrows) appears on top of the footer, this is how it should look i.e. how it looks in IE8 and Opera. But in the image below, the imageContainer div is cutting into the footer div for some reason, and I don't know why. imageContainer has a margin-top: 110px; to get it in the right place at the bottom of its column. There are 2 columns, the left housing the paragraphs and imageContainer and the right housing the Calendar and contact details. The footer div also has clear: both; Also, it's not just the image that is falling into the footer, it's the arrows as well only they are the same colour as the footer so this isn't immediately apparent. Any ideas why it isn't displaying correctly? Is there a better way of aligning the imageContainer to the bottom of it's column (to keep the box shape of the website) other than using the margin-top to position it? SO the query looks like this: UPDATE table SET this = ?, another = ? WHERE title = ? AND time = ? as you can see I dont use bindParams instead I pass the right values in the right order ($array) directly into the execute($array) method. This works like a charm BUT is it safe not use use bindParam here? If not then how can I do it? Thanks from Sweden Tobias

How to call a javascript function from one frame to another in Chrome/Webkit

I have developped an application that has a list of items in one frame; when one clicks on an item it does something in another frame (loads an image). This used to work fine in all browsers, including Chrome 3; now it still works fine in FF but in recent versions of Chrome (I believe since 4) it throws this error: Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL (...) from frame with URL (...). Domains, protocols and ports must match. This is obviously a security "feature" but is it possible to get around it? Why hovering in this menu is not working in IE?

When a anchor is hovered in this menu it should turn its background white. It works in Firefox and Chrome but in IE the words just disappear and the background doesn't turn white. Position absolute for rounded corners and problems in IE6

Im using position absolute to give the top left corner of a DIV a rounded corner. HTML: <div id="MyDiv"> Some content <div class="topLeft">&nbsp</div> </div> CSS: #MyDiv { position: relative; padding: 12px; background: #fff url('graident.png') repeat-x top left; } .topLeft { position: absolute; top: 0; right: 0; width: 10px; height: 10px; background: transparent url('corner.png') no-repeat top right; } This works fine in all browsers expcept IE6. In IE6 the corner.png image seems to be about 1px out at the top corner, essentially not top: 0; and right: 0; but more like top: 1px; right: 1px; Can anyone explain why this might be happening only in IE6?

Strange(?) Opera Floating

I have some strange floating behaviour on opera (IE f's up completely different, but that's for later). I'm floating the i-icons to the right. It works nicely on Fx and WebKit, but opera shifts the icons down a bit. Anyone got an idea how this happenes? problem in html, table class text stretching out.

Hey people, I've got a slight problem after weeks of html programming. I've got a large table which I use to construct tabs with, details don't really matter. On every tab there is a tab title (which is defined as one single cell in a table with a class from a .css) and under it there are other rows and columns for the table. sample code for the single table with the single cell in it: <table class='tabcontainer_title'><tr><td class='tabcontainer_title'>TEXT</td></tr></table> This table is again positioned in one cell of the table outside it, which has a different class 'tabcontainer_content' This is in the CSS: .tabcontainer_title{ background-color : #58af34; background-image : url(); text-align : right; vertical-align : top; margin-top : 0px; margin-right : 0px; margin-bottom : 0px; margin-left : 0px; padding-top : 5px; padding-right : 10px; padding-bottom : 5px; padding-left : 0px; font-size : 14px; font-style : normal; color : #000000; } .tabcontainer_content{ width : 100%; font-weight : bolder; background-color : #58af34; color : #000000; padding : 0px; border-collapse : collapse; } The problem I'm experiencing right now is that if there are like 3 rows in the table, which means there's a lot of emtpy space instead of those rows, the text in the tab title has a large margin from the top: but I haven't configured any margin to be present. When the table is full of rows though, hence the table is full, then the tab title holds no unnecessary empty space above the text. What am I missing here?

JDialog setResizable(false) is not working in Window Title Bar Menu Windows XP SP2 Java JRE 1.6.0_11-b03 Behavior varies. Sometimes, the Maximize and Minimize item on the window menu is disabled and sometimes enabled. Steps to reproduce enabled Maximize and Minimize button: Show the JDialog with setResizable(false) Open another window, say for example Notepad. Right-click on the window title bar of Notepad and click Maximize. Go to your JDialog and right click on the window title bar. Maximize window is enabled. Likewise, to disable the Maximize item for the JDialog, go to the maximized Notepad window and right click on title bar. Maximize item is disabled in the Notepad window. Go the your JDialog and right click on the title bar, notice that the Maximize item is also disabled. Note that my application can not use the defaultLookAndFeel method of java dialogs. The bug report related to this was for Solaris OS but that was already ages ago. bug report Is there any workaround? Thanks.

floating div problem in IE7

I also tried to remove width attribute from the div which contains 2nd background image, then get the windows size and add the difference to the container div as left attribute with Jquery. It worked fine in all IE versions but this time not on Chrome here is a print screen any ideas please?

How to put JFrame into existing JPanel in Java Swing?

I have an open-source java swing application like this: http://i47.tinypic.com/dff4f7.jpg You can see in the screenshot, there is a JPanel divided into two area, left and right area. The left area has many text links. When I click the SLA Criteria link, it will pop-up the SLA Criteria window. The pop-up window is JFrame object. Now, I'm trying to put the pop-up window into right area of the JPanel, so that means no pop-up window anymore, i.e. when I click the SLA Criteria link, its contents will be displayed at the right area of the JPanel. The existing content of the right area of JPanel will not be used anymore. The example illustration (note: it's made and edited using image editor, this is not the real screenshot of working application) is like this: http://i48.tinypic.com/5vrxaa.jpg So, I would like to know is there a way to put JFrame into JPanel? I'm thinking of using JInternalFrame, is it possible? Or is there another way? Where to give feedback on a new Feature is SO ?

After using SO, for sometimes, i realize i got some problems. zen masters fighting each other on one of my question. Every side have their own arguments and Everybody seem right. Frankly, this make me confuse : How can i choose somebody's answer where personally i don't know the right answer. So, i would like to propose a feature 'i choose this because' for a user who asked. So at least he/she explain why he choose the particular answer. Maybe it's silly, but as somebody who getting helps from other's answer, i would like to know everybody get what they deserve. Usually in this kind of situation, i just upvote every good answer and check the one i think the right one. Second feature : every hot question always got plenty answer and comment. And if among person who answer it, start to debate then it will become a little bit hectic. Right now a page only have ability to sort answer based on oldest, newest votest. So, is it possible to make a new sort based on timeline what make comment and answer collide. I believe it will be more easy to read. this feature can only see by the person who create the question, or also for public.

How to test if a user has SELECTED a file to upload ?

Any ideas? edit : maybe i wasn't so clear, i don't want to test if he uploaded a logo, i want to test IF he selected a file to upload, because right now, if he doesn't select a file to upload, php raises an error telling he must upload with the right format. thanks.

If the CSS file is big, It's time-consuming & easily get bored. I want to get the cmds piped. So that, I only press F7 once! Any idea? thanks!

In ff display_short will be called for evry 1 sec eventhough you dont release right click but in IE it will not call display_short if you dont release right click. But i expect in IE it should call display_short for every 1 sec if you dont release also. Is there any solution for this?

I tried style text-align:right; (I need RTL text), I tried direction: rtl; Nothing helps. How can I align my text to the very right of the TD and avoid those space tags?

Passing Extras and screen rotation

This kind of questions appear periodically. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I'm a newbie and couldn't find the appropriate answer. It deals with the correct implementation of communication between classes and activities. I made a gallery app. It has 3 main activities: the Main one, to search for filenames using a pattern; a Thumb one, that shows all the images that matched the pattern as thumbnails in a gridview, and a Photo activity, that opens a full sized image when you click a thumb in Thumbs. I pass to the Photo activity via an Intent the filenames (an array), and the position (an int) of the clicked thumb in the gridview. This third Photo activity has only one view on it: a TouchImageView, that I adapted for previous/next switching and zooming according to where you shortclick on the image (left, right or middle). Moreover, I added a longclick listener to Photo to show EXIF info. The thing is working, but I am not happy with the implementation... Some things are not right. One of the problems I am experiencing is that, if I click on the right of the image to see the next in the Photo activity, it switches fine (position++), but when rotating the device the original one at position appears. What is happening is that Photo is destroyed when rotating the image, and for some reason it restarts again, without obeying super.onCreate(savedInstanceState), loading again the Extras (the position only changed in Photo, not on the parent activities). I tried with startActivityForResult instead of startActivity, but failed... Of course I can do something contrived to save the position data, but there should be something "conceptual" that I am not understanding about how activities work, and I want to do this right. Can someone please explain me what I am doing wrong, which is the best method to implement what I want, and why? Thanks a lot!!!

So, if anything on the site ever changes, switches places, or a new link is added - I will have to re-create the actions. Also, I can't check for any errors so I can't abort the script if something goes wrong (login failed, etc) Another alternative I have been looking at is Mechanize with Ruby (as a note - I have 0 experience with Ruby). What would be the best way to improve or rewrite this?

IE7 Debug Issue - Word Breaks in <li>

Hello, I am having a very basic problem in IE7 that I cannot seem to fix. C++: recursively computer all permutaions of digits 0 - 9

I have a homework assignment where part of the requirement is to recursively compute all the permutations of integers 0 - 9. The professor actually gave us the algorithm for this part of the question. I've finished the rest of the assignment, but I can't get the permute function working...I'm implementing it exactly like it was shown on the assignment information. However, when I run it each permutation is repeated multiple times (and I'm not sure if I'm even getting all the correct permutations.) I think he must've made a mistake on the assignment instructions. I've been working on this for a couple of hours and can't seem to figure out where I'm going wrong. Can anybody help point me in the right direction? Here's the current code: void permute(int v[], int curr) { for (int i = curr; i < MAX; i++) { swap(v[i], v[curr]); permute(v, curr + 1); swap(v[curr], v[i]); } } EDIT: Actually, right after posting this I realized it has to do with the swap, right? Because right now i and curr are the same, so I'm swapping identical numbers. Hm, should it be swap(v[i], v[curr+1])?

Trouble deciding how to add popup menu to eclipse plugin using either action ObjectContributions or command handlers

The issue is this: Most things I read on the web says that we should avoid actions when creating popup menus because the command framework allows for more decoupling. Example: http://wiki.eclipse.org/FAQ_What_is_the_difference_between_a_command_and_an_action%3F Fair enough. But I am having a heck of a time getting the command framework to add my menu when I right click on a .java file inside the editor, and only when I click inside the editor. I can get the menu to show (using 'with' and the activeEditor variable), but it also shows when I right click on the java file inside the package explorer, which I don't want. I suspect it's because the file is already open inside the editor. I also have a menu that gets added when I right click on the java file inside the package explorer, using IComplilationUnit. That works fine. So my problem is solved using a popup menu action for when I click inside the file. I also get access to to all the ISelection stuff there. But the coupling is to high and I lose the flexability of using handlers. How to use a divider in a navigation with list elements?

I want to create a navigation which got divider between each list element. Here is a simple HTML/CSS Code/Template : <nav> <ul> <li><a href="#">A</a></li> <li><a href="#">B</a></li> <li><a href="#">C</a></li> <li><a href="#">D</a></li> <li><a href="#">E</a></li> </ul> </nav> nav ul { list-style:none; float:right; } nav ul li { float:left; padding-left:10px; } nav ul li a { color:#111; font-family:Verdana; font-size:15px; text-decoration:none; } nav ul li a:hover { color:#9F3039; } so just a simple looking navigation which floats from the right side on a logo which is not displayed in the code here. Now I want to at devider between each link - I know I could do it with border-right and just use another class on my last listelement which set the border-right off, BUT I want to use a special kind of divider - an image. How can I do it best ?

Internet Explorer 6 and 7: floated elements expand to 100% width when they contain a child element f

I've got a parent div floated left, with two child divs that I need to float right. The parent div should (if I understand the spec correctly) be as wide as needed to contain the child divs, and this is how it behaves in Firefox et al. In IE, the parent div expands to 100% width. This seems to be an issue with floated elements that have children floated right. Test page: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <title>Float test</title> </head> <body> <div style="border-top:solid 10px #0c0;float:left;"> <div style="border-top:solid 10px #00c;float:right;">Tester 1</div> <div style="border-top:solid 10px #c0c;float:right;">Tester 2</div> </div> </body> </html> Unfortunately I can't fix the width of the child divs, so I can't set a fixed width on the parent. Is there a CSS-only workaround to make the parent div as wide as the child divs?
