I've been working with linux for a while but in a rather simple manner. I understand that scripts in init.d are executed when the os starts but how exactly does it works? What if I want to keep a script but don't want it to start automaticly? Say I have a /etc/init.d/varnish and want to disable it temporary. How do I make sure it doesn't start if the os reboots? I don't want to delete the script. What if I want to add it again?

Magento My Account Layout XML Problem

Hi there, I'm having issues getting the customer.xml layout file to work properly for the customer's "my account" pages. The navigation links and the previously ordered items that are usually on the left hand side of the page won't show up on the page, but if I change the reference name to "content" in the xml file, it shows up (except it's obviously then on the right hand side). I've checked the template it's referencing (2columns-left.phtml), and the getChildHtml('left') is there in the correct position. Would Apache running on port 8080 prevent dynamically loaded scripts in JavaScript?

Had a nice PHP/HTML/JS prototype working on my personal Linode, then tried to throw it into a work machine. The page adds a script tag dynamically with some JavaScript. It's a bunch of Google charts that update based on different timeslices. I'm one of those dirty PHP coders you mother warned you about, so I'm not well versed in JavaScript beyond what I've read in the typical go-to O'Reilly books. But this code worked fine on my personal dev server, so I'm wondering why it wouldn't work on this new machine. The only difference in setup, from what I can tell, is that the new machine is running on port 8080, so it's 192.168.blah.blah:8080/index.php instead of nicedomain.com/index.php. I see the code was indeed added to the dom when I use webmaster tools to "view generated source" but in Firebug I get an error like "function2() is undefined" even though my understanding was that all script tags are eval'ed when added to . My question: Given what I've laid out, and that the machine is running on :8080, is there a reason anyone can think of as to why a dynamically loaded function like function2() would be defined on the Linode and not on the machine running Apache on 8080?

WIX: How can I register a new ISAPI Extension or Script Map on an existing Web App or Site?

I've seen the WebApplicationExtension element, but because it must be a child of WebApplication, it appears to require the creation of a new WebApplication. I don't want that. I want to create the extension (or script map) on an existing website. On uninstall, the website should remain but the extension (script map entry) should be removed. Anyone know how to do this in WIX? If I get no good answers, I guess I will have to do it within script before InstallFinalize.

Using wix3 SqlScript to run generated temporary sql-script files.

I am starting to write an installer which will use the SqlScript-element. That takes a reference to the Binary-table what script to run. I would like to dynamically generate the script during the installation. I can see three possibilities: Somehow to get SqlScript to read it data from a file rather then a Binary entry. Inject my generated script into the Binary table Using SqlString Which will cause the need to place some rather long strings into Properties, but I guess that shouldn't really be a prolem. Any advice? Regards Leif (My reason, should anyone be interested is that the database should have a job set up, that calls on an installed exe-file. I prefer to create the job using sqlscript. And the path of that file is not known until InstallDir has been choosen.)

How do I run a ruby script, that I put in my /lib/tasks/ directory in my Rails app, once?

Eventually I would like to get to setting it up as a Rake task and do a cron job, but for right now...all I want to do is take my ruby script that used to work as a standalone script and have it work within my Rails app. I renamed the file to be .rake instead of .rb and tried doing rake my_script at the command-line, but that gave me this error message: rake aborted! Don't know how to build task 'my_script' (See full trace by running task with --trace) How do I run this script within my Rails environment? Also, the site says to run the following commands: $ mkdir ets $ cd ets # and copy ets.py here $ python ets.py clone Typing those lines in Python Shell gives me the message: "SyntaxError: invalid syntax" As you can see, I'm new to Python, and I don't know what I'm doing. How do I get a full Magento session in an external script? (Specifically, Catalog Rules)

I'm running an external script that loads up a Magento session. Within that script, I'm loading products and grabbing a bunch of properties. The one issue is that getFinalPrice() does not apply the catalog rules that apply to the product. I'm doing everything I know to set the session, even a bunch of stuff that I think is superfluous. Nothing seems to get these rules applied. How do I add the j2ee.jar to a Java2WSDL ant script programmatically?

I am using IBM's Rational Application Developer. I have an ant script that contains the Java2WSDL task. When I run it via IBM, it gives compiler errors unless I include the j2ee.jar file in the classpath via the run tool (it does not pick up the jar files in the classpath in the script). However, I need to be able to call this script programmatically, and it is giving me this error: "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException" I'm not sure which jars need to be added or where? Since a simple echo script runs, I assume that it is the j2ee.jar or another ant jar that needs to be added. I've added it to the project's buildpath, but that doesn't help. I am developing a bookmarklet that requires a specific version of jQuery be loaded on the page. When I have to dynamically insert a jQuery script tag to meet the requirments of the bookmarklet I want to wait for the onload or onreadystatechange event on the script tag before executing any function that requires jQuery. For some reason the onload and/or onreadystatechange events do not fire. I've set up a script that basically does a large-scale find-and-replace on a plain text document. At the moment it works fine with ASCII, UTF-8, and UTF-16 (and possibly others, but I've only tested these three) encoded documents so long as the encoding is specified inside the script (the example code below specifies UTF-16). How to instantly termainate an un-supervised script on demand?

I have a GUI which resembles an interpreter. It allows the user to write a script in Jython (implementation of Python in Java) and run it whenever he wants. Apart from that, I also wish to allow the user to instantly terminate the run whenever he wants. Thing is, I don't really know how to do it. The script is being run on a different Thread, but I don't know of any secure way to stop/interrupt/terminate a thread in the middle of its run, let alone not knowing what is being run by the thread/script (it could be a simple task or maybe some sort of a heavy SQL query against a DB, and a DB is something which requires careful resource handling). How can I instantly terminate such run on demand?

Hi everyone... While looking for a way to temporarily save the search results when a user searches for a hotel free between particular dates i came across temporary tables. But certain questions are not answered even in mysql manual.... like... Will the temporary table be unique for each user that executes the script...? Or will it be overwritten when two different users run the script at the same time...? When will the table be destroyed..? When the user closes the browser window or just navigates away from the page in which the script runs...? Thanks for your clarifications...

How can I make an expect script prompt for a password?

I have an expect script that connects to a few routers through ssh. All these routers have the same password (I know, it's wrong), and the script needs to know that password in order to be able to connect to the routers. Currently, the password is passed to my script as an argument on the command line, but this means that there's a trace of that password in my .bash_history file as well as in the running processes. So instead I would like the user to be prompted for a password, if possible silently. Do you know whether or not it's possible to prompt the user for a password with expect? Thank you. Edit: if I was connecting to servers instead of routers, I would probably use ssh keys instead of passwords. But the routers I'm using just support passwords.

All, I have an SMS gateway application running on my server that passes incoming SMS messages to a php script. That script writes the data to a text file. Certain aspects of the message can be extracted as variables - for example: Message content: $msgdata Sender: $originator Time: $receivedtime etc... Using the script below I can easily write the message to a text file but it will write the data of every SMS that comes in. I only want to write to a text file if the $originator variable is a certain telephone number (e.g 07123456321) $date = date("d.m.Y H:i:s"); $msgdata = $_REQUEST["msgdata"]; $myFile3 = "test.txt"; $fh = fopen($myFile3, 'a') or die("can't open file"); $stringData3 = "$date - $msgdata\n"; fwrite($fh, $stringData3); fclose($fh); Your assistance is bery much appreciated. Is there a browser-agnostic way to detect client-side script errors with Watin?

We're using WatiN to test our web portals. During the course of an E2E test, we'll occasionally see client-side script errors on the IE status bar. I'd like to chain a handler onto the script error event and record the error for later analysis and bug filing. Problem is, I don't know that there's a global script error event or how to chain into it. And if there's not a browser-agnostic way to accomplish this, I can create MyIE and MyFF subclasses but then this becomes two browser-specific questions. In essence, I'm thinking of something like this entirely made-up call: browser.ScriptEngine.SetCustomErrorHandler(LogScriptingError); ... where LogScriptErrors is my code that does the obvious. Many of our client-side scripting errors don't necessarily prevent the test from continuing (a pretty UI element didn't animate, for example, but the underlying form is still submittable), so I'd like to log the error and forge ahead in most cases.

Why does this script work in the current directory but fail when placed in the path?

I wish to replace my failing memory with a very small shell script. #!/bin/sh if ! [ –a $1.sav ]; then mv $1 $1.sav cp $1.sav $1 fi nano $1 is intended to save the original version of a script. If the original has been preserved before, it skips the move-and-copy-back (and I use move-and-copy-back to preserve the original timestamp). This works as intended if, after I make it executable with chmod I launch it from within the directory where I am editing, e.g. with ./safe.sh filename However, when I move it into /usr/bin and then I try to run it in a different directory (without the leading ./) it fails with: *-bash: /usr/bin/safe.sh: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Text file busy* My question is, when I move this script into the path (verified by echo $PATH) why does it then fail? D'oh? Inquiring minds want to know how to make this work.

How to get the list of files in a directory in a shell script?

Hi, I'm trying to get the contents of a directory using shell script. My script is: for entry in `ls $search_dir`; do echo $entry done where $search_dir is a relative path. However, $search_dir contains many files with whitespaces in their names. In that case, this script does not run as expected. I know I could use for entry in *, but that would only work for my current directory. I know I can change to that directory, use for entry in * then change back, but my particular situation prevents me from doing that. I have two relative paths $search_dir and $work_dir, and I have to work on both simultaneously, reading them creating/deleting files in them etc. So what do I do now? PS: I use bash.
