• Connecting to local Sql server 2005 through Internet

  Hello My Sql server is on Local Machine, I want to access it through Internet. I Configure Surace manager and Configuration manager of sqlserver 2005 for remote access. My sqlserver is running on port:1433 I am using port forwarding , I can access service of other ports, My Connetion String Is: Data Source=190.190.200.100,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;User ID=myUsername;Password=myPassword; But it gives following error when i am trying to connect sql server through internet: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)

  I have tried disabling firing wall and checked sqlbrowser is started but for some reason I cannnot connect to my datbase... called server_name\sqlexpress.. I have a virtual machine and a full scale MS SQL Server 2008 R2 running on it... and I have several other vm running sqlexpress. they run fine and I can connect to them using sqlexpress... but when i try to access from sqlserver... I get this error. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. • SQL Server replication and load balance

  I'm running a web service that serves a mobile app on IIS 8 and SQL Server 2014, my service has a massive load and i'm trying to improve performance, most of the load is happening on SQL. i don't think i have a bottleneck, my processor and ram is up to the max and i think my code is not that bad, am already using memcached and other stuff to avoid hitting SQL too much. i know i can always upgrade the server hardware but i already have a spare server that i would like to use, so i was thinking to split the SQL load on the 2 servers. What i was thinking of is to setup replication on the other server and do some load balancing, but am not sure how to do the load balance. I know i can adjust my code to hit the other server for some queries but i was hoping to find a solution that avoid changing my code. So my question is, What are the ways of doing load balancing between 2 SQL servers ? I would appreciate suggestions or best practices or some directions. Thanks.

• Archive Manager, SQL 2005 and MaxTokenSize high CPU

  So, I posted this question a few days ago: Impact of increasing the MaxTokenSize for Kerberos Tickets Since then the thought was to test our settings on two member servers, one with IIS and one without. I setup two GPOs to configure the MaxTokenSize reg setting to 48000 and MaxFieldLength/MaxRequestBytes to 64200 (based on MS KB2020943, these are set at 4/3 * T + 200). The member server seemed to work ok (a devalued tape backup server). The IIS server however has had some strange repercussions. The IIS Sserver host Quest Software Archive Manager (AM) 4.5 that communicates with SQL Server 2005 Enterprise on Server 2003 R2. After the changes all looked good until the SQL Server hit 100% CPU. I have removed the GPOS, removed the reg values and even replaced them with defaults (12000 for token size and can't remember the other one but was in a blog post about the issue in my other post). No change. Bouncing the IIS Server stops the high CPU and a colleague has looked at the SQL server and it is definitely the AM connection taking up the time/work on the SQL server. I haven't changed the reg values on the SQL server or the DCs but am reluctant to do so without understanding why this has happened. I am guessing its to do with the overriding auth and group issue we have but I am not seeing Kerberos errors in either event log. Has anyone seen something similar or does anyone have some tips? Was definitely blindsided by the Kerberos issue and am swimming against the tide to keep things functioning.

  Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) Standard running on Windows 2008. Bidirectional transactional replication is set up between two servers. One of the subscription agents just started getting error 15164. The results of sp_helpsubscriptionerrors is: Source: MSSQL_ENG Error: 15165 Text: Could not find object '(null)' or you do not have permission. Command Id: 320 I have made sure that the SQL Server agent login has both Windows and SQL security access. Full access to the directory structure and sysadmin access to the SQL Server. What else can I do to try to troubleshoot/fix this? Thanks!

• Accessing SQL with the PC name not the IP

  I'm trying to connect to a SQL instance (default instance) on a machine. When using the IP of the machine it connects to the machine. Using the name of the machine on that machine you are able to establish a connection to the SQL instance but using the machine name on another PC the connection cannot be established. And gives the error A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. ... (Microsoft Server, Error: 10060) The machine that I am trying to establish the connection from can ping the machine with the SQL instance both on the IP and on the name. Why would this be and how can I fix it? Edit: pinging the name does resolve the correct IP. Pinging the FQDN also works correctly.

  I have SpiceWorks 4.7, installed and added the sql monitor extension to monitor our SQL servers. It does identify our sql servers correctly, but when I put the login information in it can't authenticate, with the following error message. Authentication failed. Check the login and password, and ensure that the server is configured for remote connections. I get the same result trying to use windows authentication. WE do use an alternate port# could this be the problem?

  Hi, Our environment is: Windows Server 2003, Service Pack 2 SQL Server Express 2005 SQLServer JDBC driver 1.2 (also tried Jtds) Sun JDK 1.6 (we tried this on JDK 1.5 as well) There is no virus protection software on the host, and no firewall is enabled. We have Web application deployed in JBOSS 4.0.2. Our problem is that the JDBC connection to SQL server periodically gets disconnected, and then we can't reconnect to the SQL server at all, unless we physically restart the server on which JBOSS deployed. we are getting following error in log. Software caused connect on abort: recv failed Note: We are able to connect to SQL server using sample java test class. Any suggestions would be most appreciated, as this is a serious, mission-criticial problem for us right now.

  Hi Guys, I have installed the above update through Windows Update. The update went through, reported a successful installation, and then straight after that it came back as an available update. I have done it a few times and my update log now contains multiple successful installations of KB995706. I have tried to uncheck it in the list of updates but it keeps coming back as well. The machine is a Server 2008 RC2 Standard. It's got SQL Server 2005 Express as well as SQL Server 2008 Standard. I messed up my Laptop keyboard and hence my Fn key is not working and I need it to activate the wireless whose activation combination is Fn+F2. Is there any way I can emulate the Fn key or get my wireless to start in windows or ubuntu ? My bios has an option for Fn key emulation but that only supports external PS/2 keyboards and my laptop doesn't have a ps/2 slot. Any ideas would be appreciated ..

• IIS Hangs on SQL Connections when running ASP.net applications

  We have a database server running SQL 2000 and two web servers hosting ASP.net applications. All three servers are running Windows Server 2003 SP2. Our issue is repeatable after about 2 weeks, IIS on one web server is no longer able to establish SQL connections. Static content loads fine. Other non-IIS applications are still able to contact the SQL database server. ODBC functionality also still works. While running SQL profiler a connection is never established from IIS when it is in this state. The only way to fix this situation is to restart the web server. There are no firewalls installed on any machines.

  So, we're restructuring out development environment. We've installed SQL Server onto it's own server, and we are publishing our internal web applications onto a seperate web server. However, the problem is that for some reason the authentication of the user between the web server and sql server gets lost, resulting in the Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON' error. • Trouble connecting to a local SQL server instance from the web

  We have a small network behind a firewall (WatchGuard XTM 2 series) and network switch. On our network we have multiple instances of SQL server, but 1 in specific that I would like to be able to access remotely from our website. We have a static IP address from our ISP and then all the machines on the network have a locally assigned dynamic IP address. When trying to connect to the database from outside our network how do I get the request to be directed to the proper machine / SQL instance? Is it a parameter in my connection string or something in my firewall? A few things to rule out: 1) The firewall is allowing access from the website to our network. I added the site's IP and opened up port 1433. Also, when trying to connect and monitoring the firewall no exceptions come up as they did before I added the proper IP address. 2) Remote connections on the SQL server has been setup and enabled. I've done a lot of reading up on remote connections and I am sure it has been setup properly.   I'm looking to find the number of times a certain combination of values appears in a single column, I was hoping to do this in Excel but I'm starting to think it may not be possible. As an example, I have a list that looks like a longer vertical version of this: F1 F3 F2 F4 F1 F3 F4 F1 F3 F4 F1 F3 F4 And I want to know how many times a specific order (say F1 F3 F4) occurs, in this example 3 times (in my case the lookup sequences are 8 cells long). Is there a way to run over the whole column and identify the instances where this combination of cells occurs? I'm running Excel 2008 for Mac. Many thanks!

  I'd like to know whether there is any piece of software that will allow the browsing/searching of SQL Server transaction logs (any version). We've previously used Lumigent Log Explorer against SQL Server 2000 which fulfilled our need, but the product no longer exists and Lumigent's closest replacement doesn't appear to support SQL 2008 (according to the data sheet). I've discovered something called ApexSQL Audit which may fit the bill, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of it, how it compares with Log Explorer, and whether there are any good alternatives out there.   I have a physical machine running win8, and two VMs in hyper-v client: 1 web server, 1 sql server. The web server works fantastic. The sql is the one that is giving me the problem. I can connect to it with server explorer in visual studio or management studio just fine, and it's blazing fast. The problem happens when I use the same connection string I am using in visual studio server explorer in the web.config for an app. data source=VMSQL1;initial catalog=OtherShell;persist security info=True;user id=OtherShell;password=****;network library=dbmssocn;MultipleActiveResultSets=True;App=EntityFramework I made sure it was also using tcp-ip, but it doesn't connect with or without the network library part of the connection string. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) This is driving my batty for the last two days, any ideas? It fails from the web vm too, but works in management studio with the same connection string.

• Replace a SQL Server query with another before execution

  I am trying to work with a legacy application in SQL Server which at some point does the following query SELECT serverproperty('EngineEdition') as sqledition The server replies with 2 (which is the correct edition), but the application closes since the app demands to be run over SQL Server Express which is 4. We don't have access to the code and the developer is long gone. Is there a way to configure SQL Server so that when this query is received it simply returns 4 and not the value of the property?
