• Forms Authentication & Virtual Directory

  Hi, We're having trouble getting Forms Authentication to work with a virtual directory in IIS. We have a main site, and then a microsite setup within a virtual directory. This mircosite has its own admin system within an "Admin" folder, which has authentication on it but currently it is not kicking in and the admin section is browsable by anyone. The web.config with the admin folder has the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <appSettings/> <connectionStrings/> <system.web> <authorization> <deny users="?"/> </authorization> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="~/Admin/Error.aspx"/> </system.web> </configuration> Could anyone give me any clues as to why this might not be working? • Web Deployment Project failed to map path for include virtual

  I am building my site with a web deployment project but the build fails with a number of errors all relating to the "#include virtual" directives in my master page. The includes are necessary to import a set of centrally managed html template files. Here is an example of the include directive and associated error: <!-- #include virtual="/v3/sits/pdpdev/assets-templates/inc/head.html" --> /PDPRegistration.csproj/Pages/ContentPage.Master(15): error ASPPARSE: Failed to map the path '/v3/sits/pdpdev/assets-templates/inc/head.html'. The error for each included file actually appears multiple times. I'm not sure what is being mapped or why, but this was never a problem until I started using WDP (which I wanted to alter web.config depending on the build environment, among other things.) The project is built locally on my PC and then copied to the web server via a mapped drive. I found a few solutions on the 'net involving IIS metabase - they weren't quite clear to me, and I'm not sure if they apply given how I build and deploy the project (that is, would I have to build on the same system as IIS in order to make use of the metabase?) Can anyone suggest how I can get my project to build with WDP?

• Programmatically controlled virtual drive

  How would I go about creating a virtual drive with which I can programmatically and dynamically change the contents? For instance, program A starts running and creates a virtual drive. When program B looks in the drive, it sees an error log and starts reading/processing it. In the middle of all this program A gets a signal from somewhere and decides to add to the log. I want program B to be unaware of the change and just keep on going. Program B should continue reading as if nothing happened. Program A would just report a rediculously large file size for the log and then fill it in as appropriate. Program A would fill the log with tags if program B tries to read past the last entry. I know this is a weird request but there's really no other way to do this... I basically can't rewrite program B so I need to fool it. How do I do this in windows? How about OSX?

• Is extending a base class with non-virtual destructor dangerous in C++

  Take the following code class A { }; class B : public A { }; class C : public A { int x; }; int main (int argc, char** argv) { A* b = new B(); A* c = new C(); //in both cases, only ~A() is called, not ~B() or ~C() delete b; //is this ok? delete c; //does this line leak memory? return 0; } when calling delete on a class with a non-virtual destructor with member functions (like class C), can the memory allocator tell what the proper size of the object is? If not, is memory leaked? Secondly, if the class has no member functions, and no explicit destructor behaviour (like class B), is everything ok? I ask this because I wanted to create a class to extend std::string, (which I know is not recommended, but for the sake of the discussion just bear with it), and overload the +=,+ operator. -Weffc++ gives me a warning because std::string has a non virtual destructor, but does it matter if the sub-class has no members and does not need to do anything in its destructor? -- FYI the += overload was to do proper file path formatting, so the path class could be used like class path : public std::string { //... overload, +=, + //... add last_path_component, remove_path_component, ext, etc... }; path foo = "/some/file/path"; foo = foo + "filename.txt"; //and so on... I just wanted to make sure someone doing this path* foo = new path(); std::string* bar = foo; delete bar; would not cause any problems with memory allocation

• Developing Air (Flex) Applications for Android and Desktop

  I am an experienced Flex and Air Developer and love Android having owned a G1, a milestone (Droid), a Nexus One, a Galaxy S and now a Nexus S. Understandably I am interested in developing Flex applications for Android. I have just started working through the flex for android in 90 mins tutorial here: http://coenraets.org/flexandroid90/FlexAndroid90Minutes.pdf The very first step says that I have to create a Flex Mobile Project. I was under the impression that the whole point of Air is that the same application could run on many different platforms. I was intending on creating an air app with different skins that could be swapped in and out depending on the platform it was running on. This seems to imply that I will have to compile my Air app once for desktop and once for mobile. This isn't the end of the world but it's not quite how I expected it to work. I suppose that if I am creating mobile specific skins then I may as well create a mobile specific app. Is it possible to create one Air app that will run on both mobile and desktop? Is this a good idea?

• `enable_shared_from_this` has a non-virtual destructor

  I have a pet project with which I experiment with new features of the upcoming C++0x standard. While I have experience with C, I'm fairly new to C++. To train myself into best practices, (besides reading a lot), I have enabled some strict compiler parameters (using GCC 4.4.1): -std=c++0x -Werror -Wall -Winline -Weffc++ -pedantic-errors This has worked fine for me. Until now, I have been able to resolve all obstacles. However, I have a need for enable_shared_from_this, and this is causing me problems. I get the following warning (error, in my case) when compiling my code (probably triggered by -Weffc++): base class ‘class std::enable_shared_from_this<Package>’ has a non-virtual destructor So basically, I'm a bit bugged by this implementation of enable_shared_from_this, because: A destructor of a class that is intended for subclassing should always be virtual, IMHO. The destructor is empty, why have it at all? I can't imagine anyone would want to delete their instance by reference to enable_shared_from_this. But I'm looking for ways to deal with this, so my question is really, is there a proper way to deal with this? And: am I correct in thinking that this destructor is bogus, or is there a real purpose to it?

• MVC for a desktop application, connection a view/controller pair with another one

  Hello. I've had mostly experience with "server-side" mvc frameworks very popular in different languages like ASP.NET MVC or Zend Framework for php, Spring for Java etc. Some of them are also possible to use for desktop applications development but I never tried that. I fully understand that design patterns should not limit implementation, they should generally provide ideas and common rules that can be differently implemented. Now I'm playing with one of those mvc frameworks for usual Desktop Applications development (it does not have many tutorials or a decent quickstart) and I have some questions regarding to the mvc paradigm. Here is one of them: What are common ways to link different views / controllers? If I click a button, special controller for that button dispatches the event that is generated, does something with the model, changes view state. But what if I need to interact with another view? Like, when I click on a button, it changes a model, but also I need to open another window or change state of another window (hiding a button on another window let's say...), without changing actually the model. What are common ways here to address this? Should my first controller generate an event for the second controller (or second view)? Or should the second controller be handling events from first view? Some links or examples for any languages/frameworks would be really helpful, thanks!

  Hi, I'm running a 64-bit multi-threaded program on the windows server 2003 server (X64), It run into a case that some of the threads seem to be blocked in the malloc or free function forever. We did have some threads using virtualalloc but in a way that commit the memory in the call, and these threads are not blocked. m_pBuf = VirtualAlloc(NULL, m_size, MEM_COMMIT, PAGE_READWRITE); ...... VirtualFree(m_pBuf, 0, MEM_RELEASE); This looks strange to me, seems a lot of virtual space is reserved but not committed, and malloc/free is blocked by lock. I'm guessing if there's any corruptions in the memory/object, so plan to turn on gflag with pageheap to troubleshoot this. Does anyone has similar experience on this before? Could you share with me so I may get more hints? Thanks a lot!

• Running Sitecore Production Site under a Virtual Directory

  We are using Sitecore 6 on a Windows Server 2003 (32bit) dev machine. I know it's not recommended for the CMS editing site, but we've been told it is possible to get the front-end Sitecore websites to run from within a virtual directory. Here's the issue: we'd like to achieve what the below poor mans diagram shows. We have a website (.net 1.1) /WebSiteRoot (.net 1.1) | | |---- Custom .net 1.1 Web Application | |---- SiteCore frontend WebApplication (.net 2.0) | |---- Custom .net 2.0 WebApplication The Sitecore webApplication would contain the Sitecore pipeline in its web.config and we'd make use of the section to configure the virtual folder to allow for where our Sitecore app sits and point it to the appropriate place in the Content Tree. Is it possible to pull this off? This is just the customer facing website, there will be no CMS editing functionality on these servers, that will be done from a more standard Sitecore install inside the firewall on a different server. The errors we're encountering are centered around loading the the various config files in the App_Config folder. It seems to do a Server.MapPath on "/" initially (which is wrong for us) so we've tried putting absolute paths in the web.config and still no joy (I think there must be some hardcoded piece that looks for the Include directory). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Enable/disable virtual keyboard

  I'm using a virtual keyboard. I have a checkbox that controls whether the virtual keyboard is displayed or not. The thing is that I don't understand how to disable it. I try to unbind it but it doesn't work... • "domain crashed" when creating new Xen instance

  I have downloaded a Xen virtual machine image from the appscale project, and I am trying to start it up. • SOLVED:Bootloader isn't executable booting XEN PV Guest with virtual-manager

  I am going insane with an error I am encountering while trying to install a PV Guest of Debian Wheezy on a Ubuntu Server precise Xen default build with libvirt. The steps I take with virt-manager are the following: 1.Net install via: http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian/dists/stable/main/installer-amd64/ 2.Install process is flawless, installed via VNC over virt-manager 3.When the VM starts I get the following error: Error starting domain: POST operation failed: xend_post: error from xen daemon: (xend.err "Bootloader isn't executable") Most answers i have found on google say that I need to edit the VM's .cfg file and correct the path to pygrub but virt-manager does not seem to create this file (I have searched the entire drive with "find". Another detail is that virsh list --all shows no VMs (Not even dom0) while the command xm list shows all of them. Any help is much appreciated. EDIT: Connected remotely via virsh: virsh -c xen+ssh://user@ip dumpxml vmname Found line: /usr/bin/pygrub ln -s /usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/pygrub /usr/bin/pygrub Now it works. One of our clients complains that all fonts / icons etc are too small. This user has a high DPI monitor. The DPI of the client OS (XP in this case) is not transferred to the server. Initial configuration has been made with Webmin and probably something has been messed up.. firstdomain.com is my default domain and is working correctly, seconddomain.com is another site that is working.   Trying to get xdebug to talk to netbeans (and vice versa). xdebug is in a virtualbox setup with vagrant (and some basic puppet to setup a basic LAMP). According to the php.ini from the VM everything is setup as I indented. xdebug.default_enable=1 xdebug.remote_enable=1 xdebug.remote_handler=dbgp xdebug.remote_host=33.33.33.1 xdebug.remote_port=9000 xdebug.remote_autostart=0 Unfortunately netbeans debugger just doesn't seem to be able to talk with xdebug. • XRDP: window manager not starting

  I have setup my Ubuntu server so that I can connect and login to XRDP from Windows remote desktop. My problem is that after logging in, no window-manager is started. It only displays a single gnome-terminal with no border and gray meshed background. It seems that /usr/sbin/xrdp-sesman itself is running (from observation of ps and /var/run/xrdp/xrdp-sesman.pid). I put debugging line like touch /home/myname/aaaaa into ~/startwm.sh or /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh, but the file aaaaa did not generated after logging in, so these scripts have not been executed. (Both of them have chmod +x permission.) Am I missing some configuration file, or is there any way of further inspection? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.   When trying to do some science to answer this question, I took a Windows 7 guest on a Server 2008 R2 host being managed by SCVMM 2012 and ran Prime95 on it to just generate some CPU usage. Here's the Guest: The Hyper-V host shows 12%, which is 1/8 cores (which is what is allocated), so that's looking correct: But SCVMM is showing 0%: I have left the stress test running for a long time, thinking that maybe SCVMM averages out over a long time (I thought it was 9 minutes, but I've been known to be wrong; just don't tell my wife). Why is SCVMM showing 0% when everything else seems to disagree?

  I'm trying to set up SSL, with SNI, in my apache and am getting the often-seen "ssl_error_rx_record_too_long" error in Firefox when accessing the site (https://test.me.dev.xxxx.net), from which I can conclude that the server is listening on port 443, but doesn't know to use SSL on it. The server is Ubuntu 9.04 with Apache 2.2.11 I enabled SSL in the default way (a2enmod ssl).   I have been trying to get sphinx to run at boot, so I added some lines to /etc/rc.local but nothing happens when I start up. If i run it manually it works however. /etc/init.d/rc.local start works fine as does /etc/rc.local It's listed in the default runlevel and is all executable but it does not work.
