• Migrate installation from one HDD to another?

  I have a server with a 64 GB SSD inside. It runs just fine, but occasionally there's a hiccup that causes it to nearly fill up. When that happens my server starts to lockup and generally misbehave. I'm looking to buy a bigger SSD (either 128 GB or 256 GB) but I'm a bit unsure of how best to make the transition. For a start, I don't have an external monitor. If I need one I'll have to borrow it from work. Most of the time I just SSH into the server from my iMac. The only solution I can think of would be to buy two FW800 2.5" cases, boot from the 64 GB SSD and clone it to the 128 GB SSD. Seem a bit excessive but it might be my best option. I do have more than one SATA port on my server, but they're all currently being use for storage drives. They don't mount by default, so I could unplug them and just have the two SSDs and do the whole thing via SSH. This is another option I'm considering. My main concern with either is how best to make sure everything goes across. I want a carbon copy of the first one onto the second. This is especially important because I have a ZFS volume (my storage) and I'm a bit unfamiliar with how to move everything across. I could just start fresh and reinstall everything on the SSD, but that seems like extra trouble I don't need. So any advice on how best to achieve my goals would be appreciated. Thanks! • Migrate Windows Server 2008 to a new hard disk 2

  Hi, A few weeks ago, I already asked how to move a Windows Server 2008 to a new hard disk. Despite the previous answers and two weeks lost trying to do it, I am always unable to move the OS to the new drive. What I tried: A backup/restore using Windows Backup. This never helped. First, I tried to backup, then copy the backup to a new drive, then restore. This results in "The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)" error caused by a bug in Windows Backup. Recently, I attempted to backup to a network share, but I can't restore from it, because of a "*The network path was not found. (0x80070035)" error. Trying the netsh interface ipv4 set address [...] does not work neither (saw at least three different errors, mostly "The interface is unknown.") A previously suggested solution using imagex from Windows AIK results in a non-bootable disk after writing an image to it. When booting from Windows 2008 installation disk (from USB), it finds that the HDD is not bootable and proposes to fix this, but then crashes, resulting in an unbootable USB flash disk (and HDD stays unbootable). As I said in my previous question, doing a clone of a hard disk drive gives an (of course) bootable disk, but Windows complain about hardware changes and cannot start. Now can somebody suggest me another way to move Windows Server 2008 to a new hard disk? Is it at least possible to do, or any hard disk failure/change implements necessarily to reinstall the whole OS?

  Hey Guys, I know there has already been a question that has been posted here about migrating shared hosting accounts, but wanted to get a second opinion on my plan to move hosting providers. My business is moving our shared hosting account (hosting and email) to a new provider, and would like to have minimal downtime. Here is our current plan: Create a backup of our old site Upload our site to the new host Set up duplicate email accounts with our new host Change the name server records on our domain to point to our new host Leave our old site up long enough for DNS records to propagate completely. I'm hoping this should result in little downtime for both website and email. Because of the volume of high-importance emails our company receives on a daily basis downtime is very expensive and not tolerated. Thanks, Chris

• Migrating Windows XP BOOT.INI Settings to Windows 7 Boot-loader

  Hi, Two months ago my motherboard died, so I bought a used computer that came with Windows 7. I have since installed my old hard-drive, which had Windows XP on it, in this system. What I am trying to do now is to figure out a way to migrate the settings from XP's BOOT.INI into 7's boot-loader. Below is the BOOT.INI I used in XP (I have reduced the strings and updated the disks to point to the new location of the old HD. Oh and I am not clear on the drive letters. In XP, I could boot the recovery console or MS-DOS from a file in C:\ that contains the boot-sector. I am not sure what drive letter it would be called now—I had to manually change all the drive letters of the old partitions in Windows 7 because it auto-assigned them all wrong/differently). • ADMIN$ and other shares not working remotely on XP machines

  I'm trying to use ADMT to migrate several XP machines to a new domain and the utility (nor command line) is able to access the admin$ share or any drive share. I've added the required registry key (HKCurrent\Services\LanMan\Param) for both servers and workstation admin sharing, rebooted the PC and still am unable to access it. How can I access the admin share on these PCs? If it helps, this machine used to have McAfee installed, and the Windows firewall enabled. I stoppped both of them and the machine is still not allowing me to access it remotely by a drive$ share.

• Url rewriting stops working after changing default port on iis7

  I have migrated the IIS6 webserver 2003 websites to IIS7 webserver 2008 using msdeploy tool. Application pool setting are changed with "Enable 32-bit Applications=true", "Managed_Pipeline_Mode=Classic","Identity=NetworkService" Framework=v1.1/2.0. All the websites are working fine on default port along with url rewriting migrated from iis6. When I start the webserver on port other than default port by changing bindings, url rewriting stops workings and get 404 error in logs. I think I don't have to change the handler mapping cause I am running it in classic mode. How can I troubleshoot this?

• Unlocking AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition cores - what are the risks?

  I've got the above mentioned CPU and a GigaByte GA-MA790XT-UD4P motherboard, which should be capable of unlocking the extra two cores - if I'm lucky and they're not faulty. The Internet is full of instructions on how to do that. What I don't have is spare money to buy new hardware if I brick something. What are the risks when attempting to do this? Is it completely safe, or can I be left with an expensive pile of junk? What should I keep in mind when doing so? Bigger cooler maybe (I'm running with the default box cooler)? Should I lower the frequencies too? I've never done any OC before.

I have created a test virtual machine running Ubuntu which has worked well. As a test project I wanted to convert a powered on server running Windows Server 2008 64bit into a virtual machine. As soon as I ran the Vmware Go software to start the conversion it became apparent that I cannot run 64bit guest OS's on that particular server. So, is there a way of migrating 64bit to 32bit during the conversion?

  all. My company host all the software, including application and website in one local ubuntu server. But recently we start to use Amazon EC2, and want to move the whole server to cloud. Is there anyway to copy the entire server to EC2? OS is the same, ubuntu 12.04, and just one server, and one user account. On EC2 is also one instance, one account. • What's the easiest way to migrate one Mac OSX volume to another

  I want to move a volume from a smaller drive to a larger unformatted one. What is the best way to achieve this? Ideally I'd like the new volume to have the same name as the older volume as it contains user accounts, and is a destination of various symlinks that I have on other volumes. Update: I used Carbon Copy Cloner in the end and it worked perfectly. I was able to simply rename the new volume in Finder to the same name as the old volume and then powered down and removed the old drive on which the volume lived. When I restarted, the new volume seamlessly worked in place of the old volume.

  This seems to me to be a common use case, so I'm surprised so little information is about it, so sorry if it's a duplicate, but I have searched. :) I'm migrating a clients website from one CMS to another, and of moving to newer faster machines all at the same time. As a part of this I'm moving a MySQL database from the old server to the new ones. The problem is that the old server runs MySQL 4 and the new MySQL 5. So when i do a mysqldump at the old site and then try to run it on the new site I get syntax errors. ERROR 1064 (42000) at line 178: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'BTREE (`id`), KEY `f_ChangedOnWeb` (`f_ChangedOnWeb`), KEY `f_AddressUpdate`' at line 56 I also tried to use an even older syntax by dumping with --compatible mysql323, but that just resulted in ERROR 1062 (23000) at line 2283: Duplicate entry '??????????' for key 2`... It seems to me this must be a reasonably common use case, yet I can't find any sort of help on this. Possibly all my Google searches just drown in irrelevant answers. Most seem to agree that mysqldump is the right answer, but noone mentions that you can get syntax errors...

• Copying 500GB Data to EC2 Instances Local Drive

  Please do not ask me why (they made me) but I have to copy 500GB data to the local drive every 200 node/instances that I am launching in EC2. For reasons beyond this post, this data must by on the local drive and not EBS drive so I can not benefit from snapshots. What is the fastest way that I can manage to this? Copying from S3 to each node takes a long time. I trying to attached an EBS volume to every node with the data and then copy the data from EBS to the local drive but that also take a long time (several hours_) Now, I am also thinking to use bit torrent but not sure how well it is going to be. What is the best way to copy 500GB of static data to each local drive of 200 ec2 instances? The 500Gb of data is composed several hundred of file with varying size but the biggest file is 20GB.

• How to transfer Windows Vista disk image to new machine

  I'm trying to upgrade a user's machine to some better hardware. I know of Easy Transfer, but I'd rather not have to reinstall all the programs that are already present. (Some of which are no longer available, anyway). Instead, I'm trying to transfer the entire disk image from one machine to the other, but I ran into issues. If I copy the partition image over to the new machine using Clonezilla, I get errors on boot saying that I need to insert the Vista install disk and run repair. I do that, but it then says that it is unable to repair whatever it is that's broken. Next, I tried to sysprep the old machine before creating the image, but sysprep fails saying that it encountered some sort of system error. Should it be possible to sysprep any arbitrary machine, or does it only work on a relatively clean install? Could it be a missing driver that is tripping me up? The new machine is a fairly stock desktop that shouldn't need any special drivers beyond what's already present in standard Vista. Are there any foolproof methods for doing this sort of thing?

  My whole drive data is lost because I installed ubuntu. After that, I formatted my Laptop and make new drives. in which, one partition is cant accessible because its a raw partition. I recovered some data from that partition using iCare Recovery Software. Then, I fully format that partition, and I put data in that place. I remove all files from that. My problem is that I want to recover my data which is deleted because of ubuntu.. I can recover the most recent data from iCare Recovery, but i cannot recover previous data.. • 403 forbidden while submitting a POST request with image data via iPhone application

  I am creating an iOS application which allows users to send image/text data to my webserver via a POST request. I am successfully sending POSTS to the server when image data is not included in the request. Any time i POST with image data the server spits back a 403 forbidden. I have tried adding the following to the .htaccess file in the directory of the script with no luck: Options +Indexes FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI Order allow,deny Allow from all web browsers and Android devices can successfully POST with image data to the script, the only device which cannot is the iPhone. POSTING with data to other hosting providers works as expected - it is just this host(ipowerweb.com). i noticed that when i try to POST to ANY script on the server with data returns a 403 forbidden. another note: i can successfully post to another server that is hosted by ipowerweb, but mine cant seem to handle it. My host has tried to resolve the issue but cannot, and they have marked it on their end as "resolved", so no more help from them. I wish to keep this host as moving would be a pain - i will change hosts as a last resort, so please help me! Why am i getting this 403 forbidden error only when i submit data via my iPhone application?   How do you migrate a part of an SVN repository into a new repository? To migrate the contents of a complete SVN repository into a new repository, one has to dump the old repository first: svnadmin dump /path/to/repository > repository-name.dmp and then load it into the new one using svnadmin load. But I'm not sure how to just migrate a part. Do I still have to dump the whole thing? Do I grep for the part that I want? To just dump myproject, I tried this, but it didn't work: svnadmin dump /path/to/repository/myproject Any ideas?
