• OS X Login Authentication Against Leopard Server

  I am doing a few tests with OS X Server before I have to do a deploy in a few months. I have configured Open Directory, and created a few users. I've configured Directory Utility on a 10.5 client, but the login authentication doesn't work the way I would expect. I would expect I could user a username/password from any user created in Open Directory and be able to log into the client. Instead, it appears I need to create a local user, which you then sync with a directory user using Directory Utility. Alternatively, if I add an Active Directory config to the client, I can use any AD user, as I would expect. Am I hoping for the impossible, or is something likely wrong with the configuration?

• Robocopy, do not overwrite existing files, but copy the changed / new ones

  Is it possible to mirror the two directories without overwritting the files in destination directory with new/changed/deleted files. Something like snapshots. Example: Copy the source directory with all files and sub-directories to destination directory, but if destination directory contains, for example, file A.xls and A.xls has been changed in source directory then copy A.xls but keep the previous A in destination directory as well. To preserve the previous file a datestamp, or counter can be added to the file name. Example after copy: SomeDirectory |--A.xls |--A_20120701.xls |--A_20120920.xls Thank you.

• vsftpd, virtual users and permissions. Avoid using chmod 777?

  I am running vsftpd with Virtual Users (managed through a MySQL db). Each users home/default directory is owned by vsftpd:vsftpd. I need to give a user read/write permissions to some website files, owned by apache:apache so they can make some changes. I did a bind mount for the web directory to a directory in the ftp user's home/default directory. When logging in, the user is not able to write to the web folder, unless I set files to 777. Is it possible to set this up with making the directory and it's files 777? The web directory needs to be apache:apache in order for apache to work with it.

The directory has this setup: owner/group = www-data Permissions = 700 Questions: Is this a good way to secure the directory from a hacker uploading files? Will the hacker be able to upload the files directly to the directory? Note: I have a bunch of other security measures in my upload script + an .htaccess script in the directory that disables script Execution. • Move already (i.e. not new) completed files in rtorrent

  I've been using rtorrent for a while with a single directory. However I have a bunch of completed files I have already downloaded before to split directories, and for them it does not work : if I delete their file in the session directory, rtorrent will check the hash but won't move them, and if I move them by myself rtorrent won't see them and will try to redownload them. So how can I tell rtorrent either to move them or that they are in another directory ? Thanks.

  Hello. I am running a script that walks a directory structure and generates new files in each folder in the directory. I want to delete some of the files right after creation. This is my idea, but it is quite wrong I imagine: directory = os.path.dirname(obj) m = MeshExporterApplication(directory) os.remove(os.path.join(directory,"*.mesh.xml")) How to you put wildcards in a path? ORIGINAL QUESTION I have two executable files I downloaded and am trying to add to the path. They are located in /home/user/folder and the specific files are /home/user/folder/app1 /home/user/folder/app2 Both app1 and app2 have the executable flag set to all (user, group, other). I can execute the files if I am in /home/user/folder and I execute these commands ./app1 ./app2 However I can't run them from elsewhere. I added this line to my .profile PATH="$PATH:/home/user/folder" and then sourced the path with . /home/user/.profile and I can see app1 and app2 when I use command completion (pressing tab). • CCNet TFS Migration - Dealing with left over folders

  Im currently in the process of migrating our many BizTalk projects from MKS source control to TFS.  While we will be using TFS for work item tracking and source control etc we will be continuing to use Cruise Control for continuous integration although im updating this to CCNet 1.5 at the same time. Ill post a few things as much as a reminder to myself about some of the problems we come across. Problem After the first build of our code the next time a build is triggered an error is encountered by the TFS source control block refreshing the source code. Interestingly there are other folders created by the build which are deleted fine.  My assumption is that this if something to do with the file adapter polling the directory.  However note that we have not had this problem with other source control blocks in the past. • Access-based Enumeration (December 04, 2009)

  Access-based Enumeration (ABE) is another recent addition to the Solaris CIFS Service - delivered into snv_124.  Designed to be compatible with Windows ABE, which was introduced in Windows Server 2003 SP1, this feature filters directory content based on the user browsing the directory.  Each user can only see the files and directories to which they have access.  This can be useful to implement an out-of-sight, out-of-mind policy or simply to reduce the number of files presented to each user - to make it easier to find files in directories containing a large number of files. ABE is managed on a per share basis by a new boolean share property called, as you might imagine, abe, which is described insharemgr(1M).  When set to true, ABE filtering is enabled on the share and directory entries to which the user has no access will be omitted from directory listings returned to the client.  When set to false or not defined, ABE filtering will not be performed on the share.  The abe property is not defined by default.Administration is straightforward, for example: # zfs sharesmb=abe=true,name=jane tank/home/jane# sharemgr show -vp    zfs       zfs/tank/home/jane nfs=() smb=()          jane=/export/home/jane     smb=(abe="true") ABE is also supported via sharemgr(1M) and on smbautohome(4) shares. Note that even though a file is visible in a share, with ABE enabled, it doesn't automatically mean that the user will always be able to open the file.  If a user has read attribute access to a file ABE will show the it but access will be denied if this user tries to open the file for reading or writing. We considered supporting ABE on NFS shares, as suggested by the name of PSARC/2009/375, but we ran into problems due to NFS client readdir caching.  NFS clients maintain a common directory entry cache for all users, which not only defeats the intent of ABE but can lead to very confusing results.  If multiple users are looking at the content of a directory with ABE enabled, the entries that get cached will depend on who looks at the directory first.  Subsequent users may see files that ABE on the server would have filtered out or files may be missing because they were filtered out for the original user. Although this issue can be resolved by disabling the NFS client readdir cache, this was deemed to be an unsuitable solution because it would create a dependency between a server share property and the configuration on all NFS clients, and there was the potential for differences in behavior across the various NFS clients.  It just seemed to add unnecessary administration complexity so we pulled it out. • ls -l freezes terminal locally and remotely

  I've been reading other SF threads regarding ls not returning results or freezing and stalling terminal sessions and it appears they usually the fault of network problems. My problem however, occurs both over remote SSH sessions but also if I am physically at the server itself... I just installed CentOS 5.4 on one of our servers. I'm setting up some rdiff-backup scripts and when I downloaded librsync and untared it, thats when I started seeing some weird behavior with ls -l. wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/librsync/files/librsync/0.9.7/librsync-0.9.7.tar.gz/download /tmp cd /tmp tar -xzf librsync-0.9.7.tar.gz Simple enough. To view the files in this directory I did this: ls results: librsync-0.9.7 librsync-0.9.7.tar.gz Now, if I ls -l, my terminal freezes. I have to re-ssh in to keep going. After reading SF threads, I thought it was network related. So I was extremely surprised to go sit down at the server itself and see the exact same thing happen... So its obviously not a network issues. Even if I ls /tmp/librsync-0.9.7, my terminal freezes just the same...   As mentioned in the title, I had nginx working fine with my rails app, until I tried to add the ssl server. • No audio with headphones, but audio works with integrated speakers

  My speakers work correctly, but when I plug in my headphones, they don't work. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. My audio card is Realtek ALC259 My laptop model is a HP G62t a10em In another thread someone fixed a similar issue (headphones work, speakers not) folowing this: sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (or some other editor instead of Vi) Append the following at the end of the file: alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel model=auto Reboot but it doesnt work for me. I have reinstalled the following packages and rebooter: -alsa-hda-realtek-ignore-sku-dkms -alsa-modules-2.6.32-25-generic -alsa-source -alsa-utils -linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic -linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic-pae -linux-sound-base -(i think i listed them all) After rebooting, the audio worked, both in speakers and headphones. I have no idea which is the package that made my audio work, but it certainly was one of them. [/SOLUTION]

  There is a new version of jtreg available. The primary new feature is support for tests that have been written for use with TestNG, the popular open source testing framework. TestNG is supported by a variety of tools and plugins, which means that it is now possible to develop tests for OpenJDK using those tools, while still retaining the ability to have the tests be part of the OpenJDK test suite, and run with a single test harness, jtreg. jtreg can be downloaded from the OpenJDK jtreg page: http://openjdk.java.net/jtreg. TestNG support jtreg supports both single TestNG tests, which can be freely intermixed with other types of jtreg tests, and groups of TestNG tests. A single TestNG test class can be compiled and run by providing a test description using the new action tag: @run testng classname The test will be executed by using org.testng.TestNG. No main method is required. A group of TestNG tests organized in a standard package hierarchy can also be compiled and run by jtreg. Any such group must be identified by specifying the root directory of the package hierarchy. You can either do this in the top level TEST.ROOT file, or in a TEST.properties file in any subdirectory enclosing the group of tests. In either case, add a line to the file of the form: TestNG.dirs = dir ... Directories beginning with '/' are evaluated relative to the root directory of the test suite; otherwise they are evaluated relative to the directory containing the declaring file. In particular, note that you can simply use "TestNG.dirs = ." in a TEST.properties file in the root directory of the test group's package hierarchy. No additional test descriptions are necessary, but test descriptions containing information tags, such as @bug, @summary, etc are permitted. All the Java source files in the group will be compiled if necessary, before any of the tests in the group are run. The selected tests within the group will be run, one at a time, using org.testng.TestNG. To specify one or more library directories for a group of TestNG tests, add a line of the following form to the TEST.properties file in the root directory of the group's package hierarchy: lib.dirs = dir ...   I have installed git (not GitHub) on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, and I cannot get it to work. Opening Git Bash outputs the following: Welcome to Git (version 1.9.4-preview20140815) Run 'git help git' to display the help index. I also tried GitHub for Windows, but I got an internet connection error when attempting to clone a repo, even though my connection is fine. Is this possibly related? I have learned so far that /dev/null is the Linux version of the Windows NUL, but why is it trying to do this on Windows? Thanks in advance.

  I have a hybrid asp.net web forms / mvc application that I recently converted to .net 4 with mvc2. I have set-up that application to run on IIS 7.5 (on Windows 7) and the web forms part of the site is running okay but the MVC part is not. Whenever I try and access a page that needs to go through the routing engine I get HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Module IIS Web Core Notification MapRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070002 I'm debugging this web site through VS2010 (so I've set-it-up to use IIS instead of Cassini) and when I put a break point in the Application_Start function it is never hit so the routes are never registered. When I put a break point in the Page_Load function in one of the aspx page code-behinds it gets hit. So it seems that the problem is that the route is not being registered. What am I missing?

• How can I get TFS 2010 to build each project to a separate directory?

  In our project, we'd like to have our TFS build put each project into its own folder under the drop folder, instead of dropping all of the files into one flat structure. To illustrate, we'd like to see something like this: DropFolder/ Foo/ foo.exe Bar/ bar.dll Baz baz.dll This is basically the same question as was asked here, but now that we're using workflow-based builds, those solutions don't seem to work. The solution using the CustomizableOutDir property looked like it would work best for us, but I can't get that property to be recognized. I customized our workflow to pass it in to MSBuild as a command line argument (/p:CustomizableOutDir=true), but it seems MSBuild just ignores it and puts the output into the OutDir given by the workflow. I looked at the build logs, and I can see that the CustomizableOutDir and OutDir properties are both getting set in the command line args to MSBuild. I still need OutDir to be passed in so that I can copy my files to TeamBuildOutDir at the end. Any idea why my CustomizableOutDir parameter isn't getting recognized, or if there's a better way to achieve this?
