• Easier way to populate form data and validation data in Code Igniter?

  I'm new to code igniter. I'm following the form validation tutorial found at: http://www.codeignitor.com/user_guide/libraries/validation.html I find I am typing too much in the view to get the form to re-populate. For example, here's what one of my INPUT fields look like: <input type="text" name="email" value="<?=$this->validation->email ? $this->validation->email : $array_db_values['email'] ?>" /> Basically, when the form first loads, it should show a value from the database. If the user alters the value and it fails validation, then the form should post the erroneously submitted value. Does code igniter have a "cleaner" way of rendering this kind of output? Otherwise, I'm going to do something like this in my controller: $array_db_values = getdbresults(); if($_POST['submit']) foreach($_POST as $key=>$val) $array_db_values[$key] = $val; That way, if postback data exists, it will always override database values. Then input fields in my view can simply be: <input type="text" name="email" value="<?=$array_db_values['email'] ?>" /> Is there a better/native CI way to handle this scenario?

• table in drupal with edit link

  I have a table created in drupal with the edit link pointing to the input form. But the problem is, it only displays the last row values in the $email and $comment variables.   First of all, today is April 1- April Fool’s Day, so I have written this post for some light entertainment. My friend has just sent me an email about why a person should go for Access Database. For a short background, I used to be an MS Access user once (I will not call myself MS Access DBA), and I must say I had a good time with Database at that time. As time passed by, I moved from MS Access to SQL Server. Well, as for my friend’s email, his reasons considering MS Access usage really made me laugh. MS Access may have a few points where it totally makes sense to use it. However, in the email that I received, there was not a single reason which was valid.  In fact, I thought it is an April 1st joke- just delivered a little earlier. Let us see some of the reasons from that email. Thanks to Mahesh Bhesania for sending this email to me. MS Access comes with lots of free stuff, e.g. MS Excel MS Access is the most preferred desktop database system MS Access can import data from MS Excel and SQL Server MS Access provides a real time database MS Access has a free IDE-to-VB Script MS Access fits well in your hard drive I actually think that the above points are either incorrect beliefs of some users, or someone just wrote them to give some laughter with such inaccurate data. And, for the same reason I decided to browse the Internet and do some research on MS Access database to verify my thoughts. While searching on this subject, I found the following two interesting statements from the site: Microsoft Access Database, Why Choose It? Other software manufacturers are more likely to provide interfaces to MS Access than any other desktop database system Microsoft Access consulting rates are typically lower for Access consultants compared to Oracle or SQL Server consultants The second one is may be the worst reason for you to switch to MS Access if you are already an SQL Server consultant. With this cartoon, have you ever felt like you were one of these chickens at some point in time? I guess that the moment might have just happened before the minute we say “I guess we were on the same page?” Does this mean we are IN the same table, or ON the same table?! (I accept bad joke!)   IntroductionThe idea of writing a blog about downloading software seems a bit strange .. right? After all, surely just give me the web download link and away I go!? Unfortunately, life is not so simple if you are a DBA or Systems Administrator tasked with staging Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g products for your chosen business technology stack. Here are the challenges: Oracle Fusion Middleware is not a single product, it is a family of products - a media pack with many many "disks" - which ones do I pick? Are the products I pick certified / supported on my chosen platform? Which download site do I use? I need to be on the latest and greatest - how do I get hold of the latest product patch set? The purpose of this blog is to give you a roadmap to get you through these challenges. Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g - A Product SuiteThe first thing to appreciate is that Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g is not a single product. It is a product suite, an umbrella label for many products. Typically you don't download the whole media pack - well not unless you want to stage 124 Parts - a total of 68 Gig  - instead you pick the pieces that are required for your chosen Middleware solution. Therefore, you need to research / understand which products are required to build your solution. In this respect, before you go looking for the software pick and persue the product guide from the table below which matches your situation:  Installing a New / Vanilla FMW 11g architecture Oracle Fusion Middleware Installation Planning Guide 11g  Upgrading Oracle Application Server 10g to FMW 11g Oracle Fusion Middleware Upgrade Planning Guide 11g  Patching an existing FMW 11g architecture Oracle Fusion Middleware Patching Guide 11g Certification Information Ok, so now you have an idea of what Fusion Middleware products you need. It's time to check whether these products are certified against your chosen platform. However, due to some restrictions with the Certification Tab page interface some of the more, let's say obscure certification information, is still to be only found in the Certification spreadsheet. Be aware that to find certification information via the My Oracle Support Certification Tab page you must enter the FMW 11g product name e.g. "Oracle SOA Suite". Do NOT enter "Oracle Fusion Middleware". The certification information does not exist at this product suite level.  For example, if you are building a solution which includes Oracle SOA Suite Oracle WebCenter then you will have to look up the certification information for each product in turn.After choosing the product name, select the latest patch set version. This will not only tell you whether your chosen product is available at that patch set version but provide the certification information relevant to that version.  If the product is not available under the latest patch set version, seek the information under previous patch set versions. Important: Make a careful note of the Oracle WebLogic Server version which is certified with your chosen product and patch set version. Oracle WebLogic Server is the core component of a Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g home. It is important therefore to ensure later on that you download the version of Oracle WebLogic Server which is compatible and certified with your chosen product and patch set version.Also - sorry to state the obvious, but please do not take certification information from the screenshots above. The screenshots are only good for the time they were entered into the blog. To ensure you have the latest information, interactively look up the certification details. Licensed customers should download their software via our Oracle Software Delivery Cloud site, which offers different license terms."However, it has to be said that the presentation of the most of the product download pages on OTN does make the job easier. The Software Delivery Cloud provides you with a flat list of the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g media pack. You have to know what you are looking for and pick out the right pieces :-( The OTN product download pages present not only the download for the product you want but also its dependencies such as WebLogic Server and Repository Creation Utility. So, even if your licensing requirements drive you towards the cloud, it is still worthwhile checking the OTN pages if only as a guide to what you need to pick out from the flat list found on the cloud site. Latest Patch Set This is an area which may cause you confusion - especially if you are more familiar with the Oracle Application Server 10g patching story. From Patch Set 11.1.1.6 and higher, the majority of FMW 11g products (N.B there are exceptions) provide installers which can be used both to update existing FMW 11g product installs or build brand new ones. This is good news because, unless you are dealing with one of the exceptions, it means you do not have to download base software and a patch set. At the time of the writing, the two significant exceptions are: Portal/Forms/Reports/Discoverer 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.x) Identity Access Management 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.x) The other key message here is ensure you are grabbing a version of Oracle WebLogic Server which is compatible with your chosen product patch set version.   The amount of email I receive sometime it is impossible for me to answer every email. Nonetheless I try to answer pretty much every email I receive. However, quite often I receive such questions in email that I have no answer to them because either emails are not complete or they are out of my domain expertise. In recent times I received one email which had only one or two lines but indeed attracted my attention to it. The question was bit vague but it indeed made me think. The answer was not straightforward so I had to keep on writing the answer as I remember it. However, after writing the answer I do not feel satisfied. Let me put this question in front of you and see if we all can come up with a comprehensive answer. Question: I am beginner with SQL Server. I have one query, it sometime returns a result and sometime it does not return me the result. Where should I start looking for a solution and what kind of information I should send to you so you can help me with solving. I have no clue, please guide me. Well, if you read the question, it is indeed incomplete and it does not contain much of the information at all. I decided to help him and here is the answer, which I started to compose. Answer: As there are not much information in the original question, I am not confident what will solve your problem. However, here are the few things which you can try to look at and see if that solves your problem. Check parameter which is passed to the query. Is the parameter changing at various executions? Check connection string – is there some kind of logic around it? Do you have a non-deterministic component in your query logic? (In other words – does your result is based on current date time or any other time based function?) Are you facing time out while running your query? Is there any error in error log? What is the business logic in your query? Do you have all the valid permissions to all the objects used in the query? • Help with javascript form validation

  I am getting a headache with form validation and hoping that the kind folks here can give me a hand finishing this sucker up I have it basically working except the email validation is very simplistic (only alerts if it is blank but does not actually check it if is a valid email address) and I am relying on ugly alerts but would like to have it reveal a hidden error div instead of the alert.   I am preparing to deploy Office365 for my organization. We have an on premise Active Directory Domain Controller (Windows Server 2012 R2). We would like to leverage our Active Directory for: automatic user provisioning in Office365, and password synchronization, using the DirSync tool. Our Active Directory Domain is example.pvt. Email is currently Rackspace Exchange and email addresses follow the form [email protected]. Active Directory User Logon Name follows the form firstinitiallastname. My Questions are: What Active Directory Attribute(s) can be use in provisioning the email address in Office365? Is it possible to use the E-mail field in Active Directory to provision the email address in Office365? Will the fact that our Active Directory Domain has a different extension (.pvt vs. .com) cause a problem with our planned provisioning method?

• Trouble with IIS SMTP relaying to Gmail

  I appreciate that similar questions have been asked about how to setup SMTP relaying with IIS's virtual SMTP server. However I'm still completely stumped on this problem. Here's the setup: IIS 6.0 SMTP server running on Win2k3 box with a NAT'ed IP. Company uses Gmail for all email services. An app on the box needs to send email, so normally we'd just set the app up to talk to smtp.gmail.com directly, but this app doesn't support TLS. Easy, we just setup a local SMTP relay right? So I thought. What we have done so far: Setup IIS SMTP server to relay to smtp.gmail.com, as per these excellent instructions: http://fmuntean.wordpress.com/2008/10/26/how-to-configure-iis-smtp-server-to-forward-emails-using-a-gmail-account/ The local SMTP relay allows anonymous access. Both the local IP and the loopback IP have been explicitly allowed in the Connection... and Relay... dialogs. Tried sending email from 2 different apps via the local SMTP server, but failed (the emails end up in the Queue folder, but never get sent). The IIS logs show the conversation with the local app, but zero conversation happening with smtp.gmail.com. The port used by gmail is open outbound, and indeed the apps we have that support TLS can send email directly via smtp.gmail.com, so there is no problem with the network. At this point I changed the smtp settings in IIS SMTP server to use a different external SMTP server and hey-presto, the local apps can send email via local IIS SMTP relay. So smtp.gmail.com fails to work with our IIS SMTP relay, but another 3rd party SMTP service works fine. We need to use smtp.gmail.com, so how to troubleshoot this one?

• automysqlbackup not working weirdly on shared host

  I'm on HostGator and I have not-root-level SSH access. I manually setup automysqlbackup in a /home/user/automysqlbackup folder. Created a file called runbackup in the same folder, chmod +x'ed it. The content : /home/user/automysqlbackup/automysqlbackup /home/user/automysqlbackup/myserver.conf Now, when I run ./runbackup from shell, no email is sent. I've setup a daily cron job. The crontab line reads - 24 06 * * * /home/user/automysqlbackup/runbackup When the crontab is run, I do get an email, but, the subject is WARNING: Error Reported - MySQL Backup Log and SQL Files for localhost - 012-03-19_06h24m The email does have an attachment, but it just has the SQL for creating tables. No data in the several rows at all. I don't know what wrong I'm doing and this is freaking me out! I tried writing a custom script as well, using this guide, but mutt doesn't send email, then. The OS used by HostGator is CentOS.

  This is a question related to postfix and WordPress (but is more of a postfix question). To give some background, on a professional WordPress host (like WP Engine) when I receive WordPress Mail Notifications (comments, form submissions, new users, etc...) it will say in gmail sent from "predefined wordpress admin email" via email.wpengine.com. This is not blocked by Google's spam filters or anything. I have a cloud server set up and a WordPress site installed on it. When I send email from [email protected] it gets sent to spam and when I send email as [email protected] (me) it fails to send completely. This does, however send fine on WordPress. This goal of this it so send all emails via mail.wptemple.com and have them not get caught by spam filters. How can I accomplish this?

  I'm trying to finish up my Nagios install by having it email me. It was emailing me using /bin/mail so it always got sent to my spam folders. I installed sSMTP to try to send a request to my work's email server to be able to send out a message from an authenticated user. Here is my /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf file: mailhub=10.200.120.148:25 UseTLS=NO AuthUser= [email protected] AuthPass=PASSWORD So far I've been using the following command, and it will still arrive to my email inbox as root@localhost which causes it to go to my spam folder (with the exception of one email provider I have). cat message |ssmtp [email protected] I've looked at a few examples online, and they all seem to have pretty much the same as me. Does anybody see the any mistakes that I'm making? Just to clarify, [email protected] is a user on the mail server that my work uses.

• How to efficiently merge a lot of vCard files for the same person?

  I currently have contact information at several places: old PDA's address book mobile phone's phone book (primarily name, phone number) email client's address book (primarily name, email) web mailer's address book (primarily name, email) instant messenger's contact list (primarily name, im, email, birthday) And there are several social or business networking sites on the Internet where contacts provide information about themselves, like LinkedIn or XING. All those sources can export as vCard, but as you might imagine, I get a lot of vCards for the very same contact that way. Are there any tools where I can import them and then merge them (it may ask me which phone number is more current in case of field clashes of course)? Bonus points if it can track which information I have discarded so when I re-export all information from one of the sources I can't import to (networking sites), it won't ask me again if I want to overwrite phone number of person X with the same ancient number... I hope you understand what I try to accomplish, if not just ask :-)

• Messages stuck in SMTP queue - Exchange 2003

  I need your help people ;-) I have a problem with messages coming into our Exchange Server and ones going out through it. Basically, the messages are stuck in the SMTP queue. A message will come into the server, I can see it listed under "Exchange System Manager", but if you list the properties of the message queue it says something like 00:10 SMTP Message queued for local delivery 00:10 SMTP Message delivered locally to [email protected] 00:10 SMTP Message scheduled to retry local delivery 00:11 SMTP Message delivered locally to [email protected] 00:11 SMTP Message scheduled to retry local delivery etc etc For outgoing message list looks like this: 10:55 SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing 10:55 SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue 10:55 SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer 10:55 SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing 10:55 SMTP: Message Routed nad Queued for Remote Delivery And the end - since then status didn't change, message is in queue, I am forcing connection from time to time but without an effect. I checked connection with smarthost (used telnet for that) and everything seems to work correctly, so the problem is probably on exchange side. I am using Exchange Server 2003 running on Small Business Server 2003. I don't have any antivirus installed on server. Remaining free space on each partition is over 3Gb, on partition with data bases - it is over 12Gb. All was working good and without problems since 2005, problems started in half of this june - messages started going out and being stuck almost randomly (I don't see a pattern yet, some are going out, some are not, some are going after several hours). I don't know what to do, what to check more, so please, any ideas? Best regards, D. edit Priv1.edb has 14,5GB and priv1.stm 2,6GB - together those files have more than 16GB - can it be the reason? If yes, then what? Indeed, I haven't thought that it can have something in common with my problem, but several users reported recent problems with Outlook Web Access - they can log in, they see the list of their mails, but they can't see the content of their emails. Although when they are connecting with Outlook 2003/2007 - there is no such problem, only with OWA there is. edit2 So,.. It works now, and I have to admit that I am not really sure what the problem was (hope it won't come back). What have I done: Cleaned up some mailboxes to reduce size of them Dismounted Information Store Defragmentated data base files ( I used eseutil: c:\program files\exchsrvr\bin eseutil /d g:\data base\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.edb ) Mounted Information Store back ..and before I managed to do anything else - my queue started moving, elements which were kept there already for days - started moving and after few minutes everything was sent, both, outside and locally. But: priv1.edb is still big (13 884 203 008), priv1.stm as well (2 447 384 576), so this is probably not the issue of size of the file. And if not this, so what was that? And if that was issue of size of the file, then soon it will repeat - is there something I can do to avoid it ?

• Qmail does not forward mail to a specific domain

  Hi I have a dedicated hosting account with GoDaddy.com. I've pointed my domain's email to work with Google apps. The server has qmail running and it forwards email to all domains just fine except for MY domain (mydomain.com) - it says 550 User xxx not found in mydomain.com I believe it thinks I've hosted email on the server itself (not gmail) and it's trying to validate if [email protected] exists on my server (which is not the case since it's all handled by google apps). How do I make it forward mail to all domains? Thank you :) EDIT: I would only need it forwarding emails if the connection originates from 127.0.0.1 - which I believe is the default way it's configured. So to clarify: I just need a purely forwarded configuration so my PHP scripts have the ability to send email.

  An ISP doesn't offer secure/encrypted POP3/SMTP connections to its email servers. (I could forward the mail to another mail service that does, but I'd like to try a proxy) Is there some simple software that could be run on a linux box to allow secure SSL POP3/SMTP connections to it, and transparently proxy/connect to the ISP email servers? This is to allow wireless mobile devices more secure access their email without needing the full vpn.
