• Restoring a "Canceled" event with Google Calendar API?

  I'm trying to change the status of an event back from "canceled" to "confirmed" using Google Calendar API (I'm using .NET but an answer in any language would help) but I get GDataRequestException error: "You can't modify a cancelled event" If I've used the API to delete an event in a repeating series, for example, is it possible to change the status of the resulting recurrence exception (there's no EXDATE, just a new "canceled" event that is only visible when the feed is requested with start and end date) to "confirmed" (or even delete the resulting exception completely) in order to restore the repeating series to the original state? event.Delete() and event.Update() don't even see the event any longer once it's been .canceled. event.Update() gives the above error.   I have always wanted to learn a foreign language, but I would like to pick one that can also help me the most in my career. I'm in the US, so it is not necessary for me to learn a second language to influence my career success, however I think knowing one and speaking it fluently could potentially put me in a more interesting career than if I did not. I would like to be able to travel the world, especially if I could have a reason to go one place or another. Which leads me to my question: What is the best second language to learn for a native English speaking programmer? (Especially from the US) Some ideas that come to mind for me are Mandarin, German, Japanese, French... I am looking for experienced opinions though! Thanks.

• Is there a programming language that performs currying when named parameters are omitted?

  Many functional programming languages have support for curried parameters. To support currying functions the parameters to the function are essentially a tuple where the last parameter can be omitted making a new function requiring a smaller tuple. I'm thinking of designing a language that always uses records (aka named parameters) for function parameters. Thus simple math functions in my make believe language would be: add { left : num, right : num } = ... minus { left : num, right : num } = .. You can pass in any record to those functions so long as they have those two named parameters (they can have more just "left" and "right"). If they have only one of the named parameter it creates a new function: minus5 :: { left : num } -> num minus5 = minus { right : 5 } I borrow some of haskell's notation for above. Has any one seen a language that does this?

I use PHP a lot at work, and the one thing I really miss when moving to other languages is PHP's foreach: foreach($items as $item) //iterate through items by value foreach($items as &$item) //iterate through items by reference foreach($items as $i => $item) //by value, with indices foreach($items as $i => &$item) //by reference, with indices In C#, I'm kind of smitten with the built-in multicast delegate system, as well as the way it handles getters and setters. So what's your favourite/favorite language, and what feature makes it awesome?

  Hello, does anyone know how to disable the creation of birthday events in Outlook 2010? Here is my setup and what causes the problem: I have 2 computers and one mobile which all sync through a googlemail account. But after also synching the contacts, each Outlook instance creates a birthday event for that contact. So I end up with 2 Birthday reminders. Is it possible to tell one of the PCs to not enter birthdays into the calendar? Greetings Niklas

• Local Flash in Chrome pepper player won't link to internet

  I have a local .swf file in a local .html file. The flash file opens a popup window when a link is clicked. In Chrome, when I open the html file and click the button, nothing happens. Then when I go to about:plugins and disable the top Flash player (the pepper one) then try refresh and try clicking the button again, nothing happens. Then when I go to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html and add the the folder the files are stored in to the list and refresh the page and click the button again, it opens the popup. When I re-enable the pepper flash player, and re-add the folder to the allowed list in flash (it's gone from the list now that I changed players), refresh the page and click the button again, it does nothing. I don't know why it won't open with the pepper player. I'm using Windows 7, Chrome 22.0.1229.94 m, Pepper Flash player 11.4.31.110, and regular Flash Player 11,4,402,287.

• Syncing Music Everywhere with Google Music and iTunes Match - Will This Work?

  I have the following devices: Personal Laptop running Windows 7/Ubuntu 11.10 (mostly use Ubuntu) Media Server running Windows 7 with PS3 Media Server and iTunes Work Laptop running OSX Snow Leopard iPad iPhone 4S The iPhone just replaced my Droid 2 Global. What I had been doing was using Google Music to watch the folders iTunes was storing music in and moving any new files up to Google Music. The Droid would pull music down from the cloud via streaming or me telling it to make it available offline, I had folders set up with PS3 Media Server to stream them to TV's via DLNA, and used RDP to play music through my speakers in the office. So far it's worked well. Since I've replaced the Droid 2 though with an iPhone, I've lost the syncing ability with Google Music and have to do it via iTunes (I knew this would happen, no big suprise). I got to thinking though - Apple does offer iTunes Match, which allows your devices to stream/download the music from 'the cloud,' much like Google Music. I could then listen to whatever I Wanted (for the most part) on my phone, iPad, and laptops by syncing via iTunes Match. I don't want to loose my MP3s though, and since I've never used iTunes Match, I wonder if the following is a viable solution: Sign up for iTunes Match on my media server Let it scan my library and make available my songs in AAC in the cloud Not delete the media server MP3s Set up other devices to sync to iTunes Match Continue to get MP3s via Amazon or other services and add to iTunes Let the MP3s sync to Google Music, and let the MP3's add to the AAC versions on my devices I think the main kicker is I don't want to lose the MP3 versions of my songs as those will work just fine on all my devices and I generally rip at 320kbps. I don't mind spending $25/year if it means that I can easily shift the music from device to device without much thinking, but I'm not going to pay $25/year to end up converting my library over to AAC just to save myself the hassle of manually syncing my iPad and iPhone.

• How do I make Chrome's Omnibar behave more like the Firefox Awesome bar?

  One of my favorite features of the Firefox awesome bar is that I can simply type a substring of any URL or page title in my history and it finds all matches sorted by how frequently they were accessed. Example: I simply type "ask" when I want to ask something on stackoverflow.com., "inbox" goes to my GMail Inbox and so on because the substring matches any part of the URL or the page title. Chrome's Omnibar is quite frustrating in this area. I am not able to predict what it's gonna fetch and I seem to have no way to train the thing to do my bidding. I have turned unchecked the option that says: "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs typed..." but there has been no noticeable improvement. Any clues how I can make the Omnibar behave?

• Make Google Chrome's address bar prefer page titles to domain names when offering completions?

  I've recently switched from Firefox to Chrome, and the thing I miss most from Firefox is the "Awesome Bar" that suggests completions for what I type primarily based on page titles, and then secondarily based on domain names. Chrome offers both matching URLs and titles, just like like Firefox, but Chrome seems to always prefer a matching domain name over a matching page title or a match to another part of the URL (besides the domain), no matter how many times I pass over the former for the latter. In fact, Chrome also prefers to suggest a search rather than matching anything other than a domain name. So is there any hidden preference I can change to tell Chrome that I care more about page titles than domain names? Example: I want to go to Google Reader, so I press Control+L and begin typing "reader". The URL for google reader is http://www.google.com/reader/view/#overview-page, so the domain name is www.google.com, which does not contain the word "reader". So the first option that Chrome suggests is either another site that has "reader" as part of the domain, or a search for "reader" with the default search engine. No matter how many times I scroll down and select Google Reader, Chrome never "learns" that that's what I want.

• how can i move my events in my ipod calendar to google? it won't let me move items from ipod to goog

  I've followed googles recommendations and steps for syncing my ipod touch, newest OS, with my google calendar. Sync works great when google calendar events are added or deleted on the marked for syncing calendar. They show up on my ipod. But when I make changes on the native Ipod touch calendar they are not reflected in the google calendar marked for syncing. What gives? I also have been unable to do an initial sync that would move my Ipod calendar events to my google calendar. Any suggestions?

But I want to clear old browsing data—say for a start, anything over two months old. (I'm trying to save space on a crowded laptop.) Does anyone know any principled way to do this, or shall I just dive into ~/.config/google, start removing likely-looking files, and hope for the best. I run Google Chrome on Debian Linux.

I have tried going to Language in Control Panel and setting the only language to English - US, however English - UK is still the only option in speech properties. • Chrome drag and drop download links

  In Chrome, I used to be able to take a link to a file and just drag to a folder on my system. Chrome would then download whatever resource was at the URL for the link and put it into the folder dropped into. This was particularly handy when using Gmail. If there was an attachment, I could just click and drag it into a folder, and Chrome would download it for me to the correct place. Now I have to hit download, and then drag from the download bar when it is finished. Has this feature been removed? Is there any way to bring it back?

• Is there a Chrome extension to swap out CSS?

  I'm trying to completely replace the CSS for a domain with different CSS (i.e. swap out the CSS at gaming.SE for that of Stack Overflow). I'd ideally like an extension that lets me do this. I've used Personalized Web, which allows loading in CSS for a given domain, but it still loads the original CSS (you can specify CSS to ignore, but you have to do this rule by rule! Does anyone know of a way of doing this?
