  • Java: library that does nice formatted log outputs

    - by WizardOfOdds
I cannot find back a library that allowed to format log output statements in a much nicer way than what is usually seen. One of the feature I remember is that it could 'offset' the log message depending on the 'nestedness' of where the log statement was occuring. That is, instead of this: DEBUG | DefaultBeanDefinitionDocumentReader.java| 86 | Loading bean definitions DEBUG | AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 411 | Finished creating instance of bean 'MS-SQL' DEBUG | DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.java| 213 | Creating shared instance of singleton bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 383 | Creating instance of bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 459 | Eagerly caching bean 'MySQL' to allow for resolving potential circular references DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 789 | Another debug message It would shows something like this: DEBUG | DefaultBeanDefinitionDocumentReader.java| 86 | Loading bean definitions DEBUG | AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 411 | Finished creating instance of bean 'MS-SQL' DEBUG | DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.java | 213 | Creating shared instance of singleton bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 383 | Creating instance of bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 459 | |__ Eagerly caching bean 'MySQL' to allow for resolving potential circular references DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 789 | |__ Another debug message This is an example I just made up (VeryLongCamelCaseClassNamesNotMine). But I remember seeing such cleanly formatted log output and they were really much nicer than anything I had seen before and, in addition to being just plain nicer, they were also easier to read for they reproduced some of the logical organization of the code. Yet I cannot find anymore what that library was. I'm pretty sure it was fully compatible with log4j or sl4j.

  • MKL Accelerated Math Libraries for Java...

    - by Kaopua
I've looked at the related threads on StackOverflow and Googled with not much luck. I'm also very new to Java (I'm coming from a C# and .NET background) so please bear with me. There is so much available in the Java world it's pretty overwhelming. I'm starting on a new Java-on-Linux project that requires some heavy and highly repetitious numerical calculations (i.e. statistics, FFT, Linear Algebra, Matrices, etc.). So maximizing the performance of the mathematical operations is a requirement, as is ensuring the math is correct. So hence I have an interest in finding a Java library that perhaps leverages native acceleration such as MKL, and is proven (so commercial options are definitely a possibility here). In the .NET space there are highly optimized and MKL accelerated commercial Mathematical libraries such as Centerspace NMath and Extreme Optimization. Is there anything comparable in Java? Most of the math libraries I have found for Java either do not seem to be actively maintained (such as Colt) or do not appear to leverage MKL or other native acceleration (such as Apache Commons Math). I have considered trying to leverage MKL directly from Java myself (e.g. JNI), but me being new to Java (let alone interoperating between Java and native libraries) it seemed smarter finding a Java library that has already done this correctly, efficiently, and is proven. Again I apologize if I am mistaken or misguided (even in regarding any libraries I've mentioned) and my ignorance of the Java offerings. It's a whole new world for me coming from the heavily commercialized Microsoft stock so I could easily be mistaken on where to look and regarding the Java libraries I've mentioned. I would greatly appreciate any help or advice.

  • Use a non-coalescing parser in Axis2

    - by Nathan
Does anyone know how I can get Axis2 to use a non-coalescing XMLStreamReader when it parses a SOAP message? I am writing code that reads a large base64 binary text element. Coalescing is the default behaviour, and this causes the default XMLStreamReader to load the entire text into memory rather than returning multiple CHARACTERS events. The upshot of this is that I run out of heap space when running the following code: reader = element.getTextAsStream( true ); The OutOfMemory error occurs in com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.XMLStreamReaderImpl.next: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.util.XMLStringBuffer.append(XMLStringBuffer.java:208) at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.util.XMLStringBuffer.append(XMLStringBuffer.java:226) at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.XMLDocumentFragmentScannerImpl.scanContent(XMLDocumentFragmentScannerImpl.java:1552) at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.XMLDocumentFragmentScannerImpl$FragmentContentDriver.next(XMLDocumentFragmentScannerImpl.java:2864) at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.XMLDocumentScannerImpl.next(XMLDocumentScannerImpl.java:607) at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.XMLNSDocumentScannerImpl.next(XMLNSDocumentScannerImpl.java:116) at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.XMLStreamReaderImpl.next(XMLStreamReaderImpl.java:558) at org.apache.axiom.util.stax.wrapper.XMLStreamReaderWrapper.next(XMLStreamReaderWrapper.java:225) at org.apache.axiom.util.stax.dialect.DisallowDoctypeDeclStreamReaderWrapper.next(DisallowDoctypeDeclStreamReaderWrapper.java:34) at org.apache.axiom.util.stax.wrapper.XMLStreamReaderWrapper.next(XMLStreamReaderWrapper.java:225) at org.apache.axiom.util.stax.dialect.SJSXPStreamReaderWrapper.next(SJSXPStreamReaderWrapper.java:138) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.builder.StAXOMBuilder.parserNext(StAXOMBuilder.java:668) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.builder.StAXOMBuilder.next(StAXOMBuilder.java:214) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.SwitchingWrapper.updateNextNode(SwitchingWrapper.java:1098) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.SwitchingWrapper.<init>(SwitchingWrapper.java:198) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMStAXWrapper.<init>(OMStAXWrapper.java:73) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMContainerHelper.getXMLStreamReader(OMContainerHelper.java:67) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMContainerHelper.getXMLStreamReader(OMContainerHelper.java:40) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMElementImpl.getXMLStreamReader(OMElementImpl.java:790) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMElementImplUtil.getTextAsStream(OMElementImplUtil.java:114) at org.apache.axiom.om.impl.llom.OMElementImpl.getTextAsStream(OMElementImpl.java:826) at org.example.UploadFileParser.invokeBusinessLogic(UploadFileParser.java:160)

  • Java date long value changed after insert, select query

    - by StackExploded
AFAIK, java Date type is independent from Timezone which means that it represents specific moment of time as long typed value. I found really weird thing here. This is the original value i tried to insert. (http-0.0.0.0-9080-4) 1352955600000 <-- long integer. (http-0.0.0.0-9080-4) Thu Nov 15 00:00:00 EST 2012 <-- User Friendly Format. After i finished inserting into Oracle 11g database, the value has changed! (http-0.0.0.0-9080-4) 1352952000000 (http-0.0.0.0-9080-4) Wed Nov 14 23:00:00 EST 2012 How could this happen?? The more weird thing is it only happens specific environments such as Jboss. I'm currently using below environments. java 1.6 ibatis 2.34 jboss-5.1 (server) tomcat 6.0 (local) oracle 11g Is there anybody who can give me a clue or link to be helpful? it really bugging me!!

In the previous post JMS Step 1 - How to Create a Simple JMS Queue in Weblogic Server 11g I showed you how to create a JMS queue and its dependent objects in WebLogic Server. In this article, we will use a sample program to write a message to that queue. Please review the previous post if you have not created those objects yet, as they will be required later in this example. The previous post also includes useful background information and links to the Oracle documentation for addional research. The following post in this series will show how to read the message from the queue again. 1. Source code The following java code will be used to write a message to the JMS queue. It is based on a sample program provided with the WebLogic Server installation. The sample is not installed by default, but needs to be installed manually using the WebLogic Server Custom Installation option, together with many, other useful samples. You can either copy-paste the following code into your editor, or install all the samples. The knowledge base article in My Oracle Support: How To Install WebLogic Server and JMS Samples in WLS 10.3.x (Doc ID 1499719.1) describes how to install the samples. Copy the above QueueSend.java file to this directory. Set the CLASSPATH and environment to match the WebLogic server environment. Go to $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/user_projects/domains/base_domain/bin  and execute . ./setDomainEnv.sh Collect the following information required to run the script: The JNDI name of a JMS queue to use In the Weblogic server console > Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > (Module name, e.g. TestJMSModule) > (JMS queue name, e.g. TestJMSQueue)Select the queue and note its JNDI name, e.g. jms/TestJMSQueue The JNDI name of a connection factory to connect to the queue Follow the same path as above to get the connection factory for the above queue, e.g. TestConnectionFactory and its JNDI namee.g. jms/TestConnectionFactory The URL and port of the WebLogic server running the above queue Check the JMS server for the above queue and the managed server it is targeted to, for example soa_server1. Now find the port this managed server is listening on, by looking at its entry under Environment > Servers in the WLS console, e.g. 8001 The URL for the server to be given to the QueueSend program in this example will therefore be t3://host.domain:8001 e.g. t3://jbevans-lx.de.oracle.com:8001 Edit QueueSend.java and enter the above queue name and connection factory respectively under ...public final static String  JMS_FACTORY=" jms/TestConnectionFactory "; ... public final static String QUEUE=" jms/TestJMSQueue "; ... Compile QueueSend.java using javac QueueSend.java Go to the source’s top-level directory and execute it using java examples.jms.queue.QueueSend t3://jbevans-lx.de.oracle.com:8001 This will prompt for a text input or “quit” to end. In the WLS console, go to the queue and select Monitoring to confirm that a new message was written to the queue. 2.2 From JDeveloper Create a new application in JDeveloper, called, for example JMSTests. When prompted for a project name, enter QueueSend and select Java as the technology Default Package = examples.jms.queue (but you can enter anything here as you will overwrite it in the code later). Leave the other values at their defaults. Press Finish Create a new Java class called QueueSend and use the default values This will create a file called QueueSend.java. Open QueueSend.java, if it is not already open and replace all its contents with the QueueSend java code listed above Some lines might have warnings due to unfound objects. These are due to missing libraries in the JDeveloper project. Add the following libraries to the JDeveloper project: right-click the QueueSend  project in the navigation menu and select Libraries and Classpath , then Add JAR/Directory  Go to the folder containing the JDeveloper installation and find/choose the file javax.jms_1.1.1.jar , e.g. at D:\oracle\jdev11116\modules\javax.jms_1.1.1.jar Do the same for the weblogic.jar file located, for example in D:\oracle\jdev11116\wlserver_10.3\server\lib\weblogic.jar Now you should be able to compile the project, for example by selecting the Make or Rebuild icons   If you try to execute the project, you will get a usage message, as it requires a parameter pointing to the WLS installation containing the JMS queue, for example t3://jbevans-lx.de.oracle.com:8001 . You can automatically pass this parameter to the program from JDeveloper by editing the project’s Run/Debug/Profile. Select the project properties, select Run/Debug/Profile and edit the Default run configuration and add the connection parameter to the Program Arguments field If you execute it again, you will see that it has passed the parameter to the start command If you get a ClassNotFoundException for the class weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory , then check that the weblogic.jar file was correctly added to the project in one of the earlier steps above. Set the values of JMS_FACTORY and QUEUE the same way as described above in the description of how to use this from a Linux file system, i.e. ...public final static String  JMS_FACTORY=" jms/TestConnectionFactory "; ... public final static String QUEUE=" jms/TestJMSQueue "; ... You need to make one more change to the project. If you execute it now, it will prompt for the payload for the JMS message, but you won’t be able to enter it by default in JDeveloper. You need to enable program input for the project first. Select the project’s properties, then Tool Settings, then check the Allow Program Input checkbox at the bottom and Save. Now when you execute the project, you will get a text entry field at the bottom into which you can enter the payload. You can enter multiple messages until you enter “quit”, which will cause the program to stop. The following screen shot shows the TestJMSQueue’s Monitoring page, after a message was sent to the queue: This concludes the sample. In the following post I will show you how to read the message from the queue again.

  • Can Scala be considered a functional superset of Java?

    - by Giorgio
Apart from the differences in syntax, can Scala be considered a superset of Java that adds the functional paradigm to the object-oriented paradigm? Or are there any major features in Java for which there is no direct Scala equivalent? With major features I mean program constructs that would force me to heavily rewrite / restructure my code, e.g., if I had to port a Java program to Scala. Or can I expect that, given a Java program, I can port it to Scala almost line-by-line?

  • Showing ImageView next to TextView in a ListView

    - by KDEx
    So I have a listview that is displaying correctly. When the item is "turned on" the text is white and when it's turned off it's grey. That part all functions great. However when I add the ImageView into the mix I get a null pointer exception. I don't understand why. I've tried using bitmaps as well and get the same problem. Here is some code: @Override public void bindView(View view, Context context, Cursor cursor) { TextView rRule = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.rule_text); TextView rType = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.rule_type); ImageView iChecked = (ImageView) view.findViewById(R.id.checkBox); String ruleName = cursor.getString(1); int ruleType = cursor.getInt(2); String ruleEnabled = cursor.getString(3); switch (ruleType) { /*...some irrelevant code */ } if (ruleEnabled.equals("true")) { rRule.setTypeface(null, Typeface.BOLD); rRule.setTextColor(Color.WHITE); iChecked.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); //line 271 } else if (ruleEnabled.equals("false")) { rRule.setTypeface(null, Typeface.NORMAL); rRule.setTextColor(Color.GRAY); iChecked.setVisibility(View.GONE); } rRule.setText(ruleName); } Per request the error log: (Sorry was under the impression null pointers dont say anything helpful..I know the error is the imageview) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): java.lang.NullPointerException 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.company.app.DefaultRulesList$RulesAdapter.bindView(DefaultRulesList.java:271) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.company.app.DefaultRulesList$RulesAdapter.newView(DefaultRulesList.java:284) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.CursorAdapter.getView(CursorAdapter.java:246) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:2033) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.makeAndAddView(ListView.java:1772) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.fillDown(ListView.java:672) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.fillFromTop(ListView.java:732) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.layoutChildren(ListView.java:1625) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.AbsListView.onLayout(AbsListView.java:1863) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1628) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1486) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1399) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:431) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1628) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1486) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1399) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:431) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.performTraversals(ViewRootImpl.java:1489) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.handleMessage(ViewRootImpl.java:2442) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4424) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:784) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:551) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Code for iChecked (where the id is called) <ImageView android:id="@+id/checkBox" android:padding="2dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@android:drawable/checkbox_on_background"/>

  • Try the Oracle Database Appliance Manager Configurator - For Fun!

    - by pwstephe-Oracle
    Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 If you would like to get a first hand glimpse of how easy it is to configure an ODA, even if you don’t have access to one, it’s possible to download the Appliance Manager Configurator from the Oracle Technology Network, and run it standalone on your PC or Linux/Unix  workstation. The configurator is packaged in a zip file that contains the complete Java environment to run standalone. Once the package is downloaded and unzipped it’s simply a matter of launching it using the config command or shell depending on your runtime environment. Oracle Appliance Manager Configurator is a Java-based tool that enables you to input your deployment plan and validate your network settings before an actual deployment, or you can just preview and experiment with it. Simply download and run the configurator on a local client system which can be a Windows, Linux, or UNIX system. (For Windows launch the batch file config.bat for Linux/Unix environments, run  ./ config.sh). You will be presented with the very same dialogs and options used to configure a production ODA but on your workstation. At the end of a configurator session, you may save your deployment plan in a configuration file. If you were actually ready to deploy, you could copy this configuration file to a real ODA where the online Oracle Appliance Manager Configurator would use the contents to deploy your plan in production. You may also print the file’s content and use the printout as a checklist for setting up your production external network configuration. Be sure to use the actual production network addresses you intend to use it as this will only work correctly if your client system is connected to same network that will be used for the ODA. (This step is not necessary if you are just previewing the Configurator). This is a great way to get an introductory look at the simple and intuitive Database Appliance configuration interface and the steps to configure a system. /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}
