  • Client/server application RPC connection gets disconnected very frequently

    I have a client/server application that uses RPC for the client to communicate with the server. Fairly regularly, I get an event in the Application log that the RPC connection was disconnected: Client callback failed ((0x80010108) ) I have the Windows Firewall disabled on both machines. I've even run the client on a second computer with a clean Windows XP install without any group policies. This has been going on for a long time and no one has been able to figure out why it's happening. The same client/server app works fine at other client locations. Any thoughts?

    I am working on legacy projects with thousands of files spanning more than 10 projects. I am wondering what other people are using for searching string in a text file. I am using windows and i typically search on 10,000 files to make sure some code is not called from other places. I've tried numerous text search tools mentioned here such as Actual Search & Replace, Ultraedit, notepad++ but they all take very long time to search due to the large # of files they have to look into.

  • How do I parse file paths separated by a space in a string?

    Background: I am working in Automator on a wrapper to a command line utility. I need a way to separate an arbitrary number of file paths delimited by a single space from a single string, so that I may remove all but the first file path to pass to the program. Example input string: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 /Users/jimmy/gone mia/come back jimmy.mp3 ... Desired output: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 Part of the problem is the inflexibility on the Automator end of things. I'm using an Automator action which returns unescaped POSIX filepaths delimited by a space (or comma). This is unfortunate because: 1. I cannot ensure file/folder names will not contain either a space or comma, and 2. the only inadmissible character in Mac OS X filenames (as far as I can tell) is :. There are options which allow me to enclose the file paths in double or single quotes, or angle brackets. The program itself accepts the argument of the aforementioned input string, so there must be a way of separating the paths. I just do not have a keen enough eye to see how to do it with sed or awk. At first I thought I'll just use sed to replace every [space]/ with [newline]/ and then trim all but the first line, but that leaves the loophole open for folders whose names end with a space. If I use the comma delimiter, the same happens, just for a comma instead. If I encapsulate in double or single quotation marks, I am opening another can of worms for filenames with those characters. The image/link is the relevant part of my Automator workflow. -- UPDATE -- I was able to achieve what I wanted in a rather roundabout way.     Pre-Snow Leopard, I could use the following command: defaults write com.apple.loginwindow Finder /Applications/My-replacement-app-such-as-Terminal.app Which would a.) replace the Finder launching at login with an application of my choice, and b.) cause that application to launch instead of Finder when all other applications are quit. Is it possible to do this in Snow Leopard, or has this behavior been deprecated? (I don't want to disable Finder altogether, I just don't want it to start at login.)

  • Launch remote NX sessions using metacity while local sessions use compiz?

    I'm using gnome with compiz (gtk-window-decorator) on Arch Linux for my desktop. I installed FreeNX from the repo, but when I connect remotely it does not render any window decorations. I can make the window decorations appear and function as normal by opening a command prompt and typing: metacity --replace I'm fine with using metacity for remote sessions, but I want gtk-window-decorator when using the machine locally. Is it possible to make it run metacity for FreeNX sessions and gtk-window-decorator for local sessions?

  • Can I use REG_EXPAND_SZ for the locations of shell folders instead of REG_SZ

    I'm working on re-arranging a number of the shell folders in windows 7 to utilize Dropbox to keep a set of machines in sync. I'd like to create a .reg file which I can use to update the locations of these folders rather than manually changing them from the UI, but I don't want to rely on the path to the home folder being the same each time. So my question is, is it possible to replace the REG_SZ values in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders with REG_EXPAND_SZ values specifying an offset from %HOME% instead of an exact path?

  • Customer Passenger Error Pages

    How do you replace the Passenger Application failed to load error messages. They are lovely, but I'd rather not display them when we move our application to production. It'd be better to just show them on the dev box and maintenance page on the live site. For clarification, this is the call stack page passenger displays when your rails app fails to load. I'd rather not modify the passenger template files directly. Passenger doesn't seem to be respecting: ErrorDocument 500 /500.html

    I have a mail server running on my box. I have webmail access, as well as ability to send mail thru a client. When I send mail thru a web interface (roundcube) it attaches its own headers, so the sender is kept anonymous. When sending mail thru Outlook, or Thunderbird, it attaches its own header, which lists the IP address, computer name, etc. Is there a way to ahve postfix strip these outgoing headers, and replace them with the standard "web mail" header that I get with roundcube?

    I'm working on my mom's computer and she freaked because it told her "There was an imminent hard drive failure about to occurr." I did some digging and found it was related to the S.M.A.R.T. technology in the hard drive. The message appears every time you boot, but it will still let you boot into Windows and every thing seems fine. How serious are these warning messages? Do we really need to immediately replace the hard drive?

    Our company is buying some HP Procurve managed gigabit switches to replace some of our core switches. However, we aren't able to upgrade all of our switches from 100Mb to Gigabit switches. I think I know the answer but I'm not exactly sure. If we plug those 100Mb switches (or even a 100Mb device) into those Gigabit switches, will the performance of the entire switch drop to 100Mb or will just that one port work at 100Mb?

  • Postfix: How to apply header_checks only for specific Domains?

    Basically what I want to do is rewriting the From: Header, using header_checks, but only if the mail goes to a certain domain. The problem with header_check is, that I can't check for a combination of To: and From: Headers. Now I was wondering if it was possible to use the header_checks in combination with smtpd_restriction_classes or something similar. I've found a lot information about header_checks and multiple header fields, when searching the net. All of them basically telling me, that one can't combine two header for checking. But I didn't find any information if it was possible to only do a header check if a condition (eg. mail goes to example.com) was met. Edit: While doing some more Research I've found the following article which suggests to add a Service in postfix master.cf, use a transportmap to pass mails for the Domain to that service and have a separate header_check defined with -o. The thing is that I can't get it to work... What I did so far is adding the Service to the master.cf: example unix - - n - - smtpd -o header_checks=regexp:/etc/postfix/check_headers_example Adding the followin Line to the transportmap: example.com example: Last but not least I have two regexp-files for header checks, one for the newly added service, and one to redirect answers to the rewritten domain. check_headers_example: /From:(.*)@mydomain.ain>(.*)/ REPLACE From:[email protected]>$2 Obviously if someone answers, the mail would go to nirvana, so I have the following check_headers defined in the main postfix process: /To:(.*)<(.*)@mydomain.example.com>(.*)/ REDIRECT [email protected]$2 Somehow the Transport is ignored. Any help is appreciated. Edit 2: I'm still stuck... I did try the following: smtpd_restriction_classes = header_rewrite header_rewrite = regexp:/etc/postfix/rewrite_headers_domain smtpd_recipient_restrictions = (some checks) check_recipient_access hash:/etc/postfix/rewrite_table, (more checks) In the rewrite_table the following entries exist: /From:(.*)@mydomain.ain>(.*)/ REPLACE From:[email protected]>$2 All it gets me is a NOQUEUE: reject: 451 4.3.5 Server configuration error. I couldn't find any resources on how you would do that but some people saying it wasn't possible. Edit 3: The reason I asked this question was, that we have a customer (lets say customer.com) who uses some aliases that will forward mail to a domain, let's say example.com. The mailserver at example.com does not accept any mail from an external server that come from a sender @example.com. So all mails that are written from example.com to [email protected] will be rejected in the end. An exception on example.com's mailserver is not possible. We didn't really solve this problem, but will try to work around it by using lists (mailman) instead of aliases. This is not really nice though, nor a real solution. I'd appreciate all suggestions how this could be done in a proper way.
