• Trying to find a PHP5 API-based embeddable CMS

  I've been making the rounds for a CMS that I can use as an API, in a sort of "embedded" mode. I mean by this that I don't want the CMS to do any logic or presentation. I want it to be used as an API, which I can then use within an existing site. I don't want to be tied to the architecture of the CMS. A good example of this is NC-CMS (http://www.nconsulting.ca/nc-cms/). All it needs is an include at the top, then wherever editable content is desired it's only a function call with a unique label. It's also perfect in the sense that it allows to differentiate between small strings (like titles, labels) and texts (which require a rich-text editor). It's the only CMS I found that fits this description, but it is a little too light as it does not handle site structure. I need to be able to allow my client to add pages, choosing an existing template for the layout. A minimal back-end is required. Wordpress also fits some requirements in that it handles only content editing and allows freedom for the themes by letting them call the content where and how they want it. But it is article-based and backwards, in that it embeds sites (as themes) within its structure, rather than being embeddable in sites like NC. It's funny how checking out all the CMS out there, almost all of them claim that most CMS are not self-sufficient, that they do not handle application logic, while (almost) every single on I found with only one exception do so. Many are mostly article-based blog engines, which does not fit my need. I would appreciate any CMS that fits the general description.

• How to pass a Dictionary variable to another procedure

  I am developing a C# VS2008/SQL Server website application. I've never used the Dictionary class before, but I am trying to replace my Hashtable with a Dictionary variable. Here is a portion of my aspx.cs code: ... AppendDataCT is the method that calls my SQL stored proc. I want to pass in the whole row where each row has a unique set of values that I want to add to my database table. For example, if each row requires values for cells A, B, and C, then I want to pass these 3 values to AppendDataCT, where all of these values are strings. How do I do this with Dictionary?

• Adding items to a combo box's internal list programatically.

I've tried using the addItemsWithObjectValues outside the for loop along with the suggestions at this question: Is this the right way to add items to NSCombobox in Cocoa ? But still no luck. If you can't tell, I'm trying to combine two strings from the files with a hyphen in between them and then put that new string into the combo box. There are over 400 codes and matching names in the two files, so manually putting them in would be a huge chore, not to mention, I don't see what would be causing this problem. The compiler shows no warnings or errors, and in the IB, I have it set to use the internal list, but when I run it, the list is not populated unless I do it manually. Some things I thought might be causing it: Being in the applicationDidFinishLaunching: method Having the string and array variables declared as instance variables in the header (along with @property and @synth done to them) Messing around with using appendString multiple times with NSMutableArrays Nothing seems to be causing this to me, but maybe someone else will know something I don't. • background-color hex to js variable (jquery)

  I'm kinda new to javascript and jquery and now I'm facing a problem: I need to post some data to php and one bit of the data needs to be the background color hex of div X. Jquery has css("background-color") function and with it I can get rgb value of the background into a javascript variable. The css function seems to return a string like this rgb(0, 70, 255). I couldn't find any way to get hex of the background-color (even tho it's set as hex in css). So it seems like I need to convert it. I found a function for converting rgb to hex, but it needs to be called with three different variables, r, g and b. So I would need to parse the string rgb(x,xx,xxx) into var r=x; var g=xx; var b=xxx; somehow. I tried to google parsing strings with javascript, but didn't really understand the regular expressions thing. Could someone tell me if there's a way to get background-color of div as hex, or explain how to convert the string into 3 different variables.

• Password hashing, salt and storage of hashed values

  Suppose you were at liberty to decide how hashed passwords were to be stored in a DBMS. Are there obvious weaknesses in a scheme like this one? To create the hash value stored in the DBMS, take: A value that is unique to the DBMS server instance as part of the salt, And the username as a second part of the salt, And create the concatenation of the salt with the actual password, And hash the whole string using the SHA-256 algorithm, And store the result in the DBMS. This would mean that anyone wanting to come up with a collision should have to do the work separately for each user name and each DBMS server instance separately. I'd plan to keep the actual hash mechanism somewhat flexible to allow for the use of the new NIST standard hash algorithm (SHA-3) that is still being worked on. The 'value that is unique to the DBMS server instance' need not be secret - though it wouldn't be divulged casually. The intention is to ensure that if someone uses the same password in different DBMS server instances, the recorded hashes would be different. Likewise, the user name would not be secret - just the password proper. Would there be any advantage to having the password first and the user name and 'unique value' second, or any other permutation of the three sources of data? Or what about interleaving the strings? Do I need to add (and record) a random salt value (per password) as well as the information above? (Advantage: the user can re-use a password and still, probably, get a different hash recorded in the database. Disadvantage: the salt has to be recorded. I suspect the advantage considerably outweighs the disadvantage.) • Using Scala and StringTemplate, how do I loop through a Map

  I have my environment setup nicely using Scala, StringTempalte within the Google AppEngine. I am having trouble looping through a Map and getting it to display in the template. When I assign a simple List of just Strings to the template it works using: In Scala Servlet: var photos = List[String]() //... get photo url and title ... photos = photo_url :: photos template.setAttribute("photos", photos: _*) In Template: $photos: { photo| <div><img src="$photo$_s.jpg"></div> }$ The above works. However, any attempt of creating a Map using url and title and assigning to the template gives me an error.   You always hear that functional code is inherently easier to parallelize than non-functional code, so I decided to write a function which does the following: Given a input of strings, total up the number of unique characters for each string. So, given the input [ "aaaaa"; "bbb"; "ccccccc"; "abbbc" ], our method will returns a: 6; b: 6; c: 8. I'd like the inner loop factored out into its own thread, and I don't want to use any mutable state. How would I re-write this function using an Async workflow?

• SQL Server: What locale should be used to format numeric values into SQL Server format?

  It seems that SQL Server does not accept numbers formatted using any particular locale. It also doesn't support locales that have digits other than 0-9. For example, if the current locale is bengali, then the number 123456789 would come out as "?????????". And that's just the digits, nevermind what the digit grouping would be. But the same problem happens for numbers in the Invariant locale, which formats numbers as "123,456,789", which SQL Server won't accept. Is there a culture that matches what SQL Server accepts for numeric values? Or will i have to create some custom "sql server" culture, generating rules for that culture myself from lower level formatting routines? If i was in .NET (which i'm not), i could peruse the Standard Numeric Format strings. • Looking for a fast, compact, streamable, multi-language, strongly typed serialization format

  I'm currently using JSON (compressed via gzip) in my Java project, in which I need to store a large number of objects (hundreds of millions) on disk. I have one JSON object per line, and disallow linebreaks within the JSON object. This way I can stream the data off disk line-by-line without having to read the entire file at once. It turns out that parsing the JSON code (using http://www.json.org/java/) is a bigger overhead than either pulling the raw data off disk, or decompressing it (which I do on the fly). Ideally what I'd like is a strongly-typed serialization format, where I can specify "this object field is a list of strings" (for example), and because the system knows what to expect, it can deserialize it quickly. I can also specify the format just by giving someone else its "type". It would also need to be cross-platform. I use Java, but work with people using PHP, Python, and other languages. So, to recap, it should be: Strongly typed Streamable (ie. read a file bit by bit without having to load it all into RAM at once) Cross platform (including Java and PHP) Fast Free (as in speech) Any pointers?

  Hello All, does anyone have a VBA code to create a bookmark into the first column of an MSWord table? Let's say I have a table looking like this .-----.----------------. . ref . Title 4 . .-----.----------------. and I want a VBA code fragment that creates a bookmark named "T1_1" on the string "1" in row 2 / column 1, and bookmarks named "T1_2", "T1_foo" and "T1_bar" on the strings in the other cells of column 1. I don't mind to hardcode the prefix "T1" (and substitute for other tables each time). I don't mind to select tables before running the macro, I don't mind giving those cells a special format, and I don't mind to get a superfluous bookmark "T1_ref" from the first row - so the code doesn't need to distinguish between table title and table row.   I'm trying to write validation rules for my data objects in a WPF application. I'm writing them in the configuration file, and so far they are working fine. I'm stumped on how to localize the messages using messageTemplateResourceName and messageTemplateResourceType. What I know is that the strings can be writen in a resource file, given a name and referenced by that name. • How to retrieve the Description property from SettingsProperty?

  For each item in my application's settings, I've added text to its Description Property which I want to retrieve at runtime. I'm sure I'm missing some basic logical nuance here, but everything I've tried has failed. Clearly, my understanding of what value needs to be passed to the Attributes property of the SettingsProperty class is wrong. I'm further confused by the fact that when I iterate through all they keys returned by SettingsProperty.Attributes.Keys, I can see "System.Configuration.SettingsDescriptionAttribute", but when I pass that string in as the key to the Attributes property, null is returned. Any insight into how to properly retrieve the value Description Property would be very much appreciated. • How do I send text to a UITextView?

  I'm new to iphone development. I'm a VB programmer who is trying to convert a VB application to an ipad app. I need some help with sending text to a UITextView. I want to first have a UIPickerView and then once the user hits a UIButton, a UITextView appears and the text is then generated by my source code code, line by line. The code would constantly be concatenating strings to the text. It would sort of go like this-- 1) User makes selections with UIPickerView. 2) User then hits UIButton. 3) UIPickerView is replaced on the screen with a UITextView. 4) The code does stuff. 5) The code adds the 1st line of text into the UITextView. 6) The code does more stuff. 7) The code then adds the 2nd line of text into the UITextView, retaining the 1st line that was already there. Steps 6 and 7 are repeated until the code is done. Does anyone know of any examples of this that I could look at? I am mostly interested in finding something like a youtube video, a webpage that explains the code or even a good book that covers this particular topic. I am finding that the sample codes that Apple has on this site goes over my head. In fact, I could probably benefit from a good book. But, I am looking for one that I would already know covers this particular topic, since it is so essential to the app that I am trying to build.

• Should a connect method return a value?

  I was looking at some code I've inherited and I couldn't decided if I like a bit of code. Basically, there is a method that looks like the following: bool Connect(connection parameters){...} It returns true if it connects successfully, false otherwise. I've written code like that in the past, but now, when I see this method I don't like it for a number of reasons. Its easy to write code that just ignores the returned value, or not realize it returns a value. There is no way to return an error message. Checking the return of the method doesn't really look nice: if (!Connect(...)){....} I could rewrite code to throw an exception when it doesn't successfully connect, but I don't consider that an exceptional situation. Instead I'm thinking of refactoring the code as follows: void Connect(Connection Parameters, out bool successful, out string errorMessage){...} I like that other developers have to provide the success and error strings so they know the method has error conditions and I can know return a message Anyone have any thoughts on the matter? • CarrierWave and nested forms saving empty image object if photo :title is included in form

  I'm after some advice in regards to handling nested form data and I would be ever so grateful for any insights. The trouble is I'm not 100% sure why I require the following code in my model accepts_nested_attributes_for :holiday_image, allow_destroy: true, :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:title].blank? } If I don't understand why I require to tact on on my accepts_nested_attributes_for association: :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:title].blank? } If I remove this :reject_if lambda, it will save a blank holiday photo object in the database. I presume because it takes the :title field from the form as an empty string? I guess my question is, am I doing this right or is there a better way of this this within nested forms if I want to extend my HolidayImage model to include more strings like description, notes? Sorry If I can't be more succinct. The user should be able to arrange those tiles into a 6 x 6 grid and save the resulting grid to disk as an image. The best solution would be to do it all in the browser without Flash. The next best solution would be to allow the user to create the grid in the browser with simple JavaScript drag and drop functionality and then send the coordinates to the server for image processing. The last solution would be to do it all in the browser with Flash. Is it even possible for Flash to create an image and then allow the user to save it from the browser? I am familiar with the Pixastic JavaScript library ( http://www.pixastic.com/ ), but it relies on getting image data to and from a canvas element which is not very well supported. What if I send the tile images to the browser as base64 encoded strings? Could I use JavaScript to create the 6 x 6 grid image? And if so, is there some way of allowing the user to get it onto disk without relying on the canvas element?

• drupal: standard way for creating a slug from a string

  Hi there, A slug on this context is a string that its safe to use as an identifier, on urls or css. For example, if you have this string: I'd like to eat at McRunchies! Its slug would be: i-d-like-to-eat-at-mcrunchies- I want to know whether there's a standard way of building such strings on Drupal (or php functions available from drupal). More precisely, inside a Drupal theme. Context: I'm modifying a drupal theme so the html of the nodes it generates include their taxonomy terms as css classes on their containing div. Trouble is, some of those terms' names aren't valid css class names. I need to "slugify" the them. I've read that some people simply do this: str_replace(" ", "-", $term->name) This isn't really a enough for me. It doesn't replace uppercase letters with downcase, but more importantly, doesn't replace non-ascii characters (like à or é) by their ascii equivalents. Is there a function in drupal 6 (or the php libs) that provides a way to slugify a string, and can be used on a template.php file of a drupal theme?

• SharePoint randomly replacing file names in web parts?

  Ok SharePoint is driving me crazy and I need to see if anyone has encountered a similar problem or knows of a solution: I have a content editor webpart with some HTML including links to PDF files that I've modified slightly to append an employee number querystring ie: <a href="http://moss.company.com/group/home/EPermits /Blank%20Form%20Templates/_blank_breach_permit.pdf?empNum=">New Breach Permit</a> And SharePoint seems to randomly replace the filename with aab04168 or some other similar characters: <a href="http://moss.company.com/group/home/EPermits /Blank%20Form%20Templates/aab04168?empNum=">New Breach Permit</a> After this happened a few times with no explanation I tried changing the content editor webpart to look directly at a documentLinks.html file located in the Shared Documents folder of the SharePoint site and guess what... SharePoint edited that document and replaced my filenames with random characters in there too! Figuring that filenames beginning with an underscore could be triggering some internal SharePoint procedures I've renamed all the files to remove the starting underscore--unfortunately the problem isn't immediately reproducible and I'm waiting right now to see if I run into any more trouble. edit: the underscore in the filename didn't help... my documentLinks.html wound up getting modified and all the hrefs were replaced with random characters again. Now I'm setting the hrefs in javascript with the filename text concatenated together from multiple strings. linkEle.href = ".../EPermits/Blank%20Form%20Templates/blank" + "_Chemical_Usage.pdf?empNum=" + empNumber;

• Zend_Auth and database session SaveHandler

  I have created Zend_Auth adapter implementing Zend_Auth_Adapter_Interface (similar to Pádraic's adapter) and created simple ACL plugin. Everything works fine with default session handler. So far, so good. As a next step I have created custom Session SaveHandler to persist session data in the database. My implementation is very similar to this one from parables-demo. Seems that everything is working fine. Session data are properly saved to the database, session objects are serialized, but authentication does not work when I enable this custom SaveHandler. I have debugged the authentication and all works fine up till the next request, when the authentication data are lost. I suspected, that is has something to do with the fact, that I use $adapter->write($object) instead $adapter->write($string), but the same happens with strings. I'm bootstrapping Zend_Application_Resource_Session in the first Bootstrap method, as early as possible. Does Zend_Auth need any extra configuration to persist data in the database? Why the authentity is being lost?

• converting a timestring to a duration

  Hi, At the moment I am trying to read in a timestring formatted and create a duration from that. I am currently trying to use the boost date_time time_duration class to read and store the value. boost date_time provides a method time_duration duration_from_string(std::string) that allows a time_duration to be created from a time string and it accepts strings formatted appropriately ("[-]h[h][:mm][:ss][.fff]".). Now this method works fine if you use a correctly formatted time string. However if you submit something invalid like "ham_sandwich" or "100" then you will still be returned a time_duration that is not valid. Specifically if you try to pass it to a standard output stream then an assertion will occur. My question is: Does anyone know how to test the validity of the boost time_duration? and failing that can you suggest another method of reading a timestring and getting a duration from it? Note: I have tried the obvious testing methods that time_duration provides; is_not_a_date_time(), is_special() etc and they don't pick up that there is an issue. Using boost 1.38.0

• An Ideal Keyboard Layout for Programming

  I often hear complaints that programming languages that make heavy use of symbols for brevity, most notably C and C++ (I'm not going to touch APL), are difficult to type because they require frequent use of the shift key. A year or two ago, I got tired of it myself, downloaded Microsoft's Keyboard Layout Creator, made a few changes to my layout, and have not once looked back. The speed difference is astounding; with these few simple changes I am able to type C++ code around 30% faster, depending of course on how hairy it is; best of all, my typing speed in ordinary running text is not compromised. My questions are these: what alternate keyboard layouts have existed for programming, which have gained popularity, are any of them still in modern use, do you personally use any altered layout, and how can my layout be further optimised? I made the following changes to a standard QWERTY layout. (I don't use Dvorak, but there is a programmer Dvorak layout worth mentioning.) Swap numbers with symbols in the top row, because long or repeated literal numbers are typically replaced with named constants; Swap backquote with tilde, because backquotes are rare in many languages but destructors are common in C++; Swap minus with underscore, because underscores are common in identifiers; Swap curly braces with square brackets, because blocks are more common than subscripts; and Swap double quote with single quote, because strings are more common than character literals. I suspect this last is probably going to be the most controversial, as it interferes the most with running text by requiring use of shift to type common contractions. This layout has significantly increased my typing speed in C++, C, Java, and Perl, and somewhat increased it in LISP and Python.
