• Timing the Linux Kernel boot-time optimisation

  I am trying to optimise the boot-up time of linux on an embedded device (not PC) Currently to profile the boot-up sequence, I have enabled the timing info on printk logs. Is this the most optimum way? If not, how do i profile the boot-up sequence (with timing) with minimum overhead? PS: I have a terminal (of the device) over a serial-connection & I use TeraTerm over windows-XP to access it.

• Getting 256 colors out of ruby-ncurses

  I've got 256 colors working great in my terminal (test scripts here), but it stops working when I use ncurses (via Ruby-ncurses). Printing the escape sequences given on that page works fine, but when I initialize ncurses 'puts' stops working and I can't output the colors with any of the various ncurses color changing/string output functions I've found. What gives?

Is there some nice unix command, that will allow me to dump it to a terminal without offset info etc? something like double int[4]; while(fread(tmp,sizeof(int),4,stdin)) for(int i=0;i<4;i++) printf("%d\t",tmp[i]); It seems that hexdump and od gives me the information I want, but the output is to verbose. I just want the contents.

While wrap-reload does help, run-jetty blocks my slime session and I would like to be able to start/stop it at will without having to run it in a separate terminal session.   Hi all, I want to create a global MemoryMappedFile in C# 4.0 using following call: string MemoryMappedFileName = "Global\\20E9C857-C944-4C35-B937-A5941034D073"; ioBuffer = MemoryMappedFile.CreateNew(MemoryMappedFileName, totalIoBufferSize); This always throws following exception "System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path is denied." I ever use any of that functionality and don't have mail on my computer. There's one file in /var/mail called lance, and it's huge. Can I just remove it?
