• How to replicate Google "Hangouts On Air" stream combining functionality?

  I've been researching this one for quite a bit but haven't found any solid leads. I have a Wowza/Flash app with video chatroom functionality and would like to combine the streams server-side into one video/audio stream in order to be sent to a live Youtube channel. I've found a couple projects such as jMixer and some helpful keywords such as "vision mixer" to help with my search but looking for any previous experience or new ideas. The other option is building something like it myself with a commercial video decoding/encoding library to raw frames, stitching the frames together, then encoding it. I was originally going down this route but put project on hold. What are some ideas, keywords, or existing software (open source preferred) to take those live streams and combine them into one in real-time? Or is coding it myself the required route? Thanks!

• Where is the best place to start learning Java Socket Programming?

  I wish to create a Java Socket server which can be connected to using Javascript and/or Flash. I have experience in Connecting to sockets in flash, and using a comet like system in Ajax. I wish to make a live communication system, which will intale multiple connections to the server from various clients, needing almost instant communication between peers. I coded a system like this in PHP but I want to convert it to Java, simply because I don't want the PHP engine to be tied up on this Sever, as it serves all the web stuff normally on the site, and i've heard is more powerful for this sort of thing. Just looking for advice on where I can start learning how to write this sort of system using Java? I have previous coding experience in PHP, Javascript, Adobe Air and AS3 if That helps?

• how to access a different movieclip within the flash in AS3

  I've been trying to learn Action Script 3 the past few weeks, making tiny interactive games to learn the basics. I stumble upon a problem every now and then but most of the times google helps me out. But this problem has got me stuck so please help: The main stage contains two objects(movieclips), the player and a wall. The player has got his own code so when I drag in the player object I don't have to write any code into the main stage to be able to move the player. This all worked pretty well and I now wanted to add the wall so the player actually has something to bounce into. Now here is the problem, I want to check if the player touches the wall, I've done this before but that was when I used the main stage as my coding playground instead of putting the code in movieclips. How can I check if the player hits the wall within the movement code of the player object?

• Drupal and Back-End Complexity

  Currently I am working on a school website, and we are still in the decision-making process of choosing a framework (we know that we're not using Joomla! or hand-coding). Drupal came up as a viable choice, and currently, that is my best bet for the site. However, I have an issue with CMS's in general. I would like to develop a quite complicated and specifically custom-suited back-end application for teachers to interact with individual students, including the design of shared/custom calendars, announcement privileges, etc. I currently have a bit of expertise with HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and I could wrap my head around some JavaScript and AJAX stuff if need-be. However, would such a complicated application work with Drupal (in that I could create it to specifically suite my purposes)?

  Is there a guarantee that a real number (float, double, etc) can "cover" all integers within its range? By cover I mean, that for every integer within its range there is such real number that this equality holds: real == int Or in another example, let's say I have the biggest real number which is smaller than given integer. When I add "epsilon" will I get this number equal to given integer or bigger than integer? (I know that among real numbers you should not write comparisons as == for equality, I am simply asking for better understanding subject, not for coding comparisons.)

• Programmatic binding of accelerators in wxPython

  I am trying to programmatically create and bind a table of accelerators in wxPython in a loop so that I don't need to worry about getting and assigning new IDs to each accelerators (and with a view to inhaling the handler list from some external resource, rather than hard-coding them). I also pass in some arguments to the handler via a lambda since a lot of my handlers will be the same but with different parameters (move, zoom, etc). • Protocols/Interfaces in Ruby

  While coding in Ruby I did not really miss the type-orientedness of Java or C++ so far, but for some cases I think it is useful to have them. For Python there was a project PyProtocols which defined interfaces and protocols for objects. Does a similar initiative also exist for Ruby? I would like to be able to declare the expected parameters for some methods for some objects (for the entire code I find such think useless). It the method during the execution receives an unexpected input, it tries to adapt it or if it cannot, it throws an exception. Does something similar exist for Ruby? Introducing types for a type-less language like Ruby might sound freak, but I think types are sometimes useful. Thanks for help.

  My wish is to know how I can program a mobile website, that fit to all mobile phones. Are there any special approaches to recognize a device and render the code according to it? Which tools and coding languages are required? My first thought was to hold the website in XML, which would be parsed depending on the device. You have to consider old phones, even devices with only wap support. For example: The mobile website has to recognize Nokia N75 and render/send the code that looks optimal for this device. Same thing with an iPhone or a Motorola Razr.

• Why does Microsoft's IE even exists?

  For real what is the point? Why can't it display pages properly like Chrome, safari or Firefox? If you want to make a web application (modern 2.0 site) that supports IE you will end up almost doubling your coding time as IE has its own interpretation of things. PLUS they just keep on changing how it renders pages from version to version (5,6,7,8) unbelievable. Microsoft hates web designers. i used to handle rendering problems with extra JS scripts and CSS files but i had enoughs of this $hit all over my pages: <!--[if IE]> .... <!--[if IE 8]> .... <!--[if IE 7]> .... <!--[if IE 6]> .... No more IE support for any of my projects, So you guys think im exaggerating or IE is really a pain in the @@$?

• Is there a way to arbitrarily load Resources at runtime in Android?

  I've got some XML resources in my Android app. Each one has a different name like "bicycle.xml" and "car.xml". I'd like to know if there's a way to load resources based on conditions during run time. As an example... Say I had a text input in my app. When the user enters "bicycle", my app can look up an XML resource by that name, parse and load it. Whereas if they enter "car", they would end up with the data from the other XML file. I've noticed so far that to load resources, you have to use the autogenerated "R" class, which restricts you to hard-coding resources at compile time.

• facebook and twitter buttons doesn't work

  I am building a website in dreamweaver cs5. for some reason, the facebook like button and twitter share as well as follow button doesn't work. facebook like button shows nothing. (in the area, chrome says page cannot be found), twitter buttons show the hyperlink tweet and it tweets but the icon doesn't show up. The code for both are generated from facebook and twitter itself. I haven't hosted the site yet. I and coding and previewing it. Is that the reason for them not to work? I also tried addthis.com widget. It didn't show up as it should have. Please help!   I'm currently coding a function in MATLAB that has two steps: It processes some data It does some calculations on the processed data I'm using the function to run a series of experiments, where I tweak the way calculations occur in step 2). Seeing how I'm working with a large dataset and the data processing step takes a while each time, however, I'm wondering whether there is anyway to code in a "warm start" in the function. That is to say, is there anyway to save all the progress that I've done after step 1) so that if I run the function a second or third time, it can skip step 1) and go right to step 2)?

• 'An error occurred. Please try later' message on Facebook authentication dialog

  I am a newbie who is trying to create a Facebook app using PHP and Facebook's PHP SDK. The app is hosted on Heroku, and the sample app that they provided is working fine. However, I am now trying to get the sample app to work on Apache 2.2, and I have encountered a lot of problems along the way. Well, straight to the point, my latest problem will be trying to do Facebook login on localhost, but the 'An error occurred. Please try later' appears on the popup dialog. This does not happen on Heroku. Will someone please enlighten me on if there's any steps that I can take to overcome this error? I don't think it got to do with any coding error since I am just following the provided sample app. Thanks!

The guidelines are to be solely from a user perspective (e.g. commit comments, when to commit) and not from an administrative perspective (e.g. when to tag, how to structure). An administrative guideline will be written in a separate document. We are an app development house involved also in embedded development. So our developers range from HTML5 and Flash to Java and C. Some of our coding involves forking very large (millions of files) code bases. Other parts involve us engaging in ground-up development. Are there any best practices for use of SVN from a user (i.e. grunt developer) perspective?

  I've seen various Grails plugins which allow easier handling of file uploads, however these tend only to support a single file per form-submit. I'd like a multi-attach form where as soon as you pick one file, an extra field and button is added using JS (various sites do it like this). Do you know of any good plugins which provide elegant uploading of multiple files without excessive coding? A progress bar either per-file of for the whole process would also be very nice. I don't know to what extent I can allow GORM to handle a java.io.File field (or in this case a Collection<File>).

To implement this I have created some database tables that hold all the information about which roles are assigned what permissions and which roles are assigned to what user. I am checking the permissions in the business access layer. Right now I have created a method which checks the permissions of the user. • IE Hanging on jQuery code

  Here's another clichéd problem, but I couldn't find an exact match to this. I haven't posted any source here, as you can freely see all that is there on the link. :-) Statement:I have a web page at http://agrimgupta.com/antaragni/ Disclaimer: Pardon me for the pathetic coding on that page. ;-) It was done on a very short interval. Improvements will be done at a later stage. Observation: This page is functioning normally on my localhost on all browsers. Problem: IE 8 is crawling (nearly hanging) while loading this page from the website. Although it is working fine on localhost. When on the website, It fails to render the mouseover effects, doing them in almost what seems like a minute. Question: How to resolve this stuck up of IE? It is necessary to resolve this.   I'm coding in java and I need to create a function that returns the number of Data objects that are currently in an ArrayList. At the moment I have this: int count = 0; for (int i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { if (data[i] != null) { count ++; } } return count; But the problem is that an array list that includes null data is acceptable, and I have to count their null data towards this counter. How do I include the null data that's in the middle of this array, and not the null data that's not supposed to be counted for? For example, I have some tester code that adds (8),null,null,(23),(25) to the array, and this function should return 5 when the initial array size is 10. Thank you so much

• How long people take to learn a new programming language?

  In general aspects, this might be a good reference for everyone. Having an idea of how long people take in average for properly learning how to code can give a very good idea on how dense or long is the path. Someone who never programmed should take weeks or months, even years maybe while someone who's already experienced in the area and know at least 2 different languages might take days, hours or even minutes to start coding. But other than being able to write code that runs, there are ways to write the same program, and it's much harder to get deep knowledge on that than actually being able to program. And sometimes languages differ a lot from one to another on that aspect as well. For instance, we should never have to worry with code-injection in JavaScript like we do in C. So, is there any place we can see some good numbers for how long it takes to learn a language, maybe divided into level of knowledge categories, languages and paradigms, etc?

• Can JQuery/JavaScript be used to write a substantial client side application?

  I have an unusual situation - I have an embedded video streaming device with a complicated UI, and I need to use an embedded web server to reproduce that UI through a web browser. I'm thinking of using JavaScript/JQuery on a C++ backend (I am NOT coding all this myself, I need to hire people for the grunt work). The embedded web server is much less powerful than a PC, so I want to write an application that runs the entire UI in the browser, and only communicates with the server to pass new program settings back and forth, get status updates from the device, and control video playback. In other words, the client gets one big page or a small number of big pages (effectively downloading the application), the application maintains significant local memory storage, and once the pages are first loaded the server never sends anything layout-related. The application has two rows of tabs to navigate ~40 menu pages, drag-and-select controls to pick cells in a grid, sorted lists, lots of standard data entry options, and it should be able to control up to 16 embedded video players at once (preferably VLC). Is this possible in JavaScript/JQuery with a C++ backend?
