I have seen tutorials which use an SDL_Surface for rendering to while other tutorials use SDL_Window and obtain an openGL context from that and render to that, with no mention of surfaces. I understand what the differences between the two are, but is there any advantage in using one over the other? Can I use the SDL_Window technique to create high quality games or does the SDL_Surface approach get me better results?

  • HD Tune warning for "Reallocated Event Count" with a new/unused drive. How serious is that?

    I've just looked at the health status of my old 2,5 inch 500 Gb Fujitsu drive with a popular "HD Tune" utility. It shows a warning for the "Reallocated Event Count" property. How serious is that? The thing is that the drive is practically new. I pulled it out of a new laptop over a year ago and never used it since. Right now it only has 53 "Power On" hours which sounds about right since I only had it running a few evenings overnight before switching it for something more performant. Does this warning indicate that the drive is likely to fail some time in the future? I'm somewhat perplexed since the drive is effectively unused. What is more, I have arranged with somebody to buy off this drive since I don't really need. It is 12,5 mm thick (with 3 plates) meaning it doesn't fit into an external enclosure which makes it quite useless to me. Can I give away the drive without having it on my conscience or better cancel the deal? In other words, can the drive be used safely for years to come or better throw it away? I'm running a sector test now to see if there are any real problems. Will post the results as soon as they're available.

    Important: I have this question on stackoverflow but somebody told me this is more relevant place for this question. Thanks I have configured squid(3.4.2) as ssl bumped proxy. I am setting proxy in firefox(29) to use squid for https/http. Now it works for most sites, but some sites which support old SSL proto(sslv3) break, and I see squid not employing any workarounds for those like browsers do. Sites which should work: https://usc-excel.officeapps.live.com/ , https://www.mahaconnect.in As a workaround I have set sslproxy_version=3 , which enforces SSLv3 and above sites work. My question: is there a better way to do this which does not involve enforcing SSLv3 for servers supporting TLS1 or better. Now I know openssl doesn't automatically handle that. But I imagined squid would.     I have made a bash command which generates a one liner for restarting all Weblogic ( 8,9,10) instances on a server /usr/ucb/ps auwwx | grep weblogic | tr ' ' '\n' | grep security.policy | grep domain | awk -F'=' '{print $2}' | sed 's/weblogic.policy//' | sed 's/security\///' | sort | sed 's/^/cd /' | sed 's/$/ ; cd .. ; \/recycle_script_directory_path\/recycle/ ;' | tr '\n' ' ' To restart a Weblogic instance, the recycle ( /recycle_script_directory_path/recycle/) script needs to be initiated from within the domain directory as the recycle script pulls some application information from some .ini files in the domain directory. The following part of the script generates a line to cd to the parent directory of the app i.e. the domain directory sed 's/$/ ; cd .. ; \/recycle_script_directory\/recycle/ ;' | tr '\n' ' ' I am sure there is a better way to cd to the parent directory like cd dirname but every time i run the following cd command , it throws a "Variable syntax" error. cd $(dirname '/domain_directory_path/app_name') How do i incorporate the cd to the directory name in a better way ? Also are there any enhancements for my bash command Some info on my script 1) The following part lists out the weblogic instances running along with their full path /usr/ucb/ps auwwx | grep weblogic | tr ' ' '\n' | grep security.policy | grep domain | awk -F'=' '{print $2}' | sed 's/weblogic.policy//' | sed 's/security\///' | sort 2) The grep domain part is required since all domain names have domain as the suffix
