• Can I tell Borland C++ Builder to copy a file somewhere else after it is built?

  I have two computers. One is intended to be left 'free' for high-performance activities (such as playing games) The other is my 'all purpose' computer where I install all the apps I use for creating things, and so on. On the second computer I use Codegear C++ Builder to work on an app that I use on the first computer. If I have BCB compile to comp 1 it is hopeless. It becomes unresponsive. It compiles locally very quickly. So what I do is compile locally and then copy the exe to the other machine. Well, I'm all for streamlining processes, so I want a way to compile on PC2 and use on PC1 without any intermediate steps. So is it possible to have BCB do the compiling on PC2 and create a local exe file, then copy the file to PC 1?

  I have to develop a online business software solution (similar to ERP) for a company to manage the information exchange for internal use and with external partners. It should be online. What technology should I use, I have checked framewroks like: Flex, Silverlight, Google/GWT, sencha (ExtJS), jQuery, DoJo, Telereik, Infrajistics and others similar. But they seam to be very low level programming. May be this is advantage for other projects, where you need more flexibility, but this project is stright forward. I need something more focused on business software (tables, forms, processes) where and eventually more efficient with less coding, or something I can save time. Is force.com an option? But I can not install this on the customer's servers... Do you have any ideas for me for a web based framework focused on business applications?

I have my complaints but... you know ;) A few of my macros are taking quite a while to complete and I am looking for a way to track progress. I build a log file during most of my macro processes but I have not found a good way to report progress without pausing the process. Ex. MsgBox("Progress") Any way to access the output window or even better the VS status bar?

• Forcing a method to be non-transactional in JPA (Eclipselink)

  Hi, I am developing an application using Eclipselink and as part of the app I need to be able to manipulate some of the objects which involves changing data without it being persisted to the database (i merging/changing objects for some batch generation processes). I am reluctant to change the data in the Entity objects, as there is a risk that even though i have not marked the methods as @Transactional, this method could in the future be inadvertantly called from within a transactional method and these changes could be persisted. So my question is, is there anyway to get around this? Such as force a method to always be non-transactional regardless; terminate any transactionality as soon as the method is started; etc. I know there is a .detach() method that can detach the objects from the Entity Manager, however, there are many objects and this seems like a potentially error prone fail-safe on my code.

  Hi there, I am looking for an alternative to using an object/variable in global scope -- I would like to associate key/value pairs with specific DOM elements (eg, a DIV), so that I can use them as input for logic that processes other elements (eg, child elements of said DIV). I tried something naive like: $('[foo=bar]').key='value' , and $('[foo=bar]')[key]='value', but it puked. Doing something like: var foobar = $('[foo=bar]'); foobar.key = 'value' -- works, but the new property/value only affects the new object (ie, foobar, not $('[foo=bar]')) Most likely there's something terribly basic I am overlooking. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  I have read some tutorials about creating an API and i wonder if XML-RPC and XML-RPC server in CodeIgniter are for creating this? If yes, what are the benefits of using these classes rather than im just using regular class/methods/params to create my API interface. This is what it said in the documentation: Quite simply it is a way for two computers to communicate over the internet using XML. One computer, which we will call the client, sends an XML-RPC request to another computer, which we will call the server.   I have taken a job selling a customized "online workplace management application." Our clients' businesses work around the application. Our clients track their time (which is how they get paid), finances and work documents through the application we provide and give their clients access to their interests throught the application. Our clients range from 2 users to 500 users. Each user probably processes 200 files per year and generates a fee for each file in the range of $500-$2500 per file. The application has been refined over a period of years and has cost around a million to develop. Does anyone know what range something like this sells for (source code, add-ons such as support and hosting)? I am trying to wrap my head around it as my background is not in software development.

• Killing a script launched in a Process via os.system()

  I have a python script which launches several processes. Is there a way to have terminate also kill the subshell created by os.system()?

  I am developing an application on Android. It is a long running application that continuously processes sensor data. While running the application I see a lot of GC messages in the logcat; about one every second. This is most probably because of objects being created and immediately de-referenced in a loop. How do I find which objects are being created and released immediately? All the java heap analysis tools that I have tried(*) are bothered with the counts and sizes of objects on the heap. While they are useful, I am more interested in finding out the site where temporary short-lived objects get created the most. (*) I tried jcat and Eclipse MAT. I couldn't get hat to work on the Android heap-dumps; it complained of an unsupported dump file version.

Since Process 1 read value of d['blah'] saves it on the stack increments it and again writes it. In Between a Process 2 can read the d['blah'] as well. Locking means that while d['blah'] is being written or read no other process can access it. Can someone clarify my doubts?

• Attaching a function to the parent window from an iframe and getting proper scope

  I working on adding file uploading to my web application. I'm using an iframe to post my upload. When my php script processes the upload it writes some JavaScript to the iframe. This JavaScript is attempting to attach a function to the parent, this works, but when this function actually gets called it doesn't have the correct scope. Here is the code I'm attaching to the parent window: parent.window.showPreview = function(coords) { if (parseInt(coords.w) > 0) { var rx = 200 / coords.w; var ry = 250 / coords.h; $('#preview').css({ width: Math.round(rx * 400) + 'px', height: Math.round(ry * 533) + 'px', marginLeft: '-' + Math.round(rx * coords.x) + 'px', marginTop: '-' + Math.round(ry * coords.y) + 'px' }); } } When this function gets executed I get an error that says $ is not defined. I've tried adding changing the JQuery call to parent.$('#preview').css..., but then it says that parent is undefined. Any ideas?

• Where does memory dynamically allocated reside?

  Hello everyone: We know that malloc() and new operation allocate memory from heap dynamically, but where does heap reside? Does each process have its own private heap in the namespace for dynamic allocation or the OS have a global one shared by all the processes. What's more, I read from a textbook that once memory leak occurs, the missing memory cannot be reused until next time we restart our computer. Is this thesis right? • Getting info about a screen session from an external script

  I have a screen session. I'd like to be able to figure out what's running in it from an external script. I've gotten this far: ps --ppid $PID -o comm= That prints a list of all the child processes of the screen. What I haven't been able to figure out so far is: What window is selected/active in a screen session. If $PID is an attached screen it has no children. How do I find out what session it's attached to? I imagine the solution will involve some 'screen -X' voodoo, but I haven't figured out how to make that happen yet and google has been less than helpful.

• Advice about testing an application before release?

  I would like to get some tips from peer developers about how you go about testing an application you developed, prior to release to QA. Keep in mind, this is a small scale application (requirements are verbal), and so doing formal testing processes wont work, especially, since your boss told you to develop this app quick, push it out the door. Despite the time restraints, I would like to make sure it is bug free, however, numerous times in the past, I have had the app sent back to me because clicking the "Reset" button, messes up the other controls alignment etc. I know there are people out there that develop small scale apps fast, and send them out with minimal bugs. • How to efficiently implement a blocking call with Rails, while letting the client wait for the reply

  We have a web service written in Rails. The API is published and we cannot change it. Our app communicates with a remote web service that sometimes hangs or takes several seconds to reply. Client -> Our Web Service -> Remote Web Service Currently, if the remote web service hangs for 5 seconds, one of our rails processes on our web service also hangs with it, which is what we need to avoid. I've seen things such as mod-x-sendfile, modporter, and delayed jobs, but the best I can tell, they all assume the client is not waiting for an answer. Since the API is already established, we cannot tell the client "I'm attempting to do what you want, check back later for the answer." The best option we have come up with so far is to add a second, non-rails web server running eventmachine to process these particular calls. Is there a better way?

  I've got a script that pulls information from an Excel(Mac Excel'04) spreadsheet, and processes it through a local database. My problem(which is temporary, pending a dedicated scripting machine w/ Excel '08) is when I need to work on another spreadsheet in Excel. I want to ensure that the AppleScript continues reading data from the correct spreadsheet. Is there a way to pass reference to the specific Excel file in AppleScript, as opposed to just telling the Application in general? Or possibly just referencing the spreadsheet without having to have it open ... ?

  I'm somewhat new to jQuery, so I could use some help here. This is my issue: I have a php script outputting a dynamic table. Each row has an "edit" button, plus some other fields. Only 3 of those need to be turned into an input box. The edit button should only put that specific row into "edit mode." I got as far as assigning each row a unique class by adding a number to the end of it. I have been able to use jQuery to change all of the rows into edit mode, but I need it to be specific to a row. An example row would have classes like name0, price0, and desc0. The next row would go on to classes name1, price1, and desc1 (for the fields that need changed). How can I reference these values and pass them to jQuery so it processes an event on just those elements?

  version: erlang R13B Hi all, how can I increase the amount of ssl ports/handles that my network server is able to create on Windows? On linux I was able to successful create about 1000 connections using: -env ERL_MAX_PORTS 80000 -P 268435456 and changing the maximum open fd's using ulimit. On windows apparently there is no effect using the same configuration, and sadly the number of open connections are VERY small (about 30, and it opens 6 handles for each one). I've noticed that the shell starts two other children processes, inet_gethost.exe and ssl_esock.exe. If these are the ones that I have to increase the port count, how do I do that? Thanks,

  I am currently in the planning stages of a game for google app engine, but cannot wrap my head around how I am going to handle AI. I intend to have persistant NPCs that will move about the map, but short of writing a program that generates the same XML requests I use to control player actions, than run it on another server I am stuck on how to do it. I have looked at the Task Queue feature, but due to long running processes not being an option on the App engine, I am a little stuck. I intend to run multiple server instances with 200+ persistant NPC entities that I will need to update. Most action is slowly roaming around based on player movements/concentrations, and attacking close range players(you can probably guess the type of game im developing)

• C - fork() and sharing memory

  I need my parent and child process to both be able to read and write the same variable (of type int) so it is "global" between the two processes. I'm assuming this would use some sort of cross-process communication and have one variable on one process being updated. I did a quick google and IPC and various techniques come up but I don't know which is the most suitable for my situation. I'm trying to use a semaphore in a work project to limit the number of users that can access certain processes at a concurrent time. From my understanding the following: $iKey = ftock($sSomeFileLocation,'sOneCharacterString'); //Generate the key if($sem_id = sem_get($iKey){ //1 user allowed if(sem_acquire($sem_id)){ //Do the limited process here sem_release($sem_id); } } The problem that I see here is that if there is already one user who has the semaphore key, then the next user just waits until the first user is done rather than just faulting out. Anyone know of a way that if the max_acquire number has been reached, sem_acquire (or similar) will just return false? Thanks

• Filemaker XSL 20sec Query Latency

  I have an ASP frontend that loads data from a Filemaker database using XSL to perform simple queries. The problem is that the first page load takes 20 seconds +/- 200ms, then the next few page refreshes within a minute of the first request take <200ms, then the cycle starts over again. Each page load makes only 2 XSL queries, and they execute fast after the first page load, so what is causing the delay on the first page load? I have caching turned up with a 100% hit rate, and number of connections at 100. I've tried with XSL database sessions on and off, and session time anywhere from 1 to 60 minutes without any changes. The XSL loads from ASP use a GET request and add a Basic Authorization header to authenticate each time. During fast page requests, the fmserver.exe and fmswpc.exe processes don't even flinch, but during a 20 second holdup I see fmserver jump to 30% CPU and a 3mb I/O read a few seconds into the request, and occasionally fmswpc jump to 60% CPU.

• What happens if the first part of an if-structure is false?

  Hey guys, I was wondering what happens when a program processes an if-structure with multiple conditions. I have an idea, but i'm not sure about it. I'll give an example : List<string> myTestList = null; if (myTestList != null && myTestList.Count > 0) { //process } The list is null. When processing the if, will it go from left to right exiting the if as soon as one condition is false? I've tried it and seems to throw no errors, so i assume the above explains it, but i'm not sure. Thanks in advance.
