  • Filtering bad requests from Apache -> logger -> rsyslog to syslog-ng on a remote logging server possible?

    - by zeyus
    EDIT: Thanks for the help Here is a quick idea of the setup: webserver X In apache httpd.conf: LogFormat "%v %h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\"" vcombined CustomLog "|/usr/bin/logger -p local6.info -t access " vcombined In rsyslog.conf: *.* @logserver Logserver syslog-ng.conf: ... parser p_apache {csv-parser(columns( "APACHE.VIRTUAL_HOST", "APACHE.CLIENT_IP", "APACHE.IDENT_NAME", "APACHE.USER_NAME", "APACHE.TIMESTAMP", "APACHE.REQUEST_URL", "APACHE.REQUEST_STATUS", "APACHE.CONTENT_LENGTH", "APACHE.REFERER", "APACHE.USER_AGENT", "APACHE.PROCESS_TIME", "APACHE.SERVER_NAME") # flags: # escape-none,escape-backslash,escape-double-char, # strip-whitespace flags(escape-double-char,strip-whitespace) delimiters(" ") quote-pairs('""[]') );}; ... source s_net { udp(ip(0.0.0.0) port(514) so_rcvbuf(1048576)); }; destination hosts_acc { file("/var/log/hosts/$HOST/${APACHE.VIRTUAL_HOST}_acc.log"); }; filter f_apacheacc { facility(local6); }; log { source(s_net); parser(p_apache); filter(f_apacheacc); destination(hosts_acc); }; ... The log's get there just fine, but there are a LOT of logs like the following: -rw------- 1 root root 5726 Apr 6 01:02 xc3\x9d\xc3\x9ed$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 23435 Apr 6 01:06 \xc3\x9ed$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 745 Apr 6 00:57 xc3\x9ed$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 8440 Apr 5 22:50 \xc3\xaf_F\xc3\x95$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 3112 Apr 6 00:58 xe2\x80\x94w\xe2\x80\x98\xc3\x9d\xc3\x9ed$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 4220 Apr 5 22:03 xe2\x80\x98\twd\xc2\xa2\xc2\xb0\xc3\x96$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 1055 Apr 5 22:03 xe2\x80\x98\xc2\x9dw\xc3\x94\xc3\xb4T\xc5\x93$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 1821 Apr 6 00:58 \xe2\x80\x98\xc3\x9d\xc3\x9ed$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 2875 Apr 6 01:02 xe2\x80\x98\xc3\x9d\xc3\x9ed$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 3165 Apr 5 22:48 \xe2\x80\x99-w\xc3\xaf_F\xc3\x95$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 3165 Apr 5 22:40 \xe2\x80\x99\xe2\x80\x9aw\xe2\x82\xac\xc2\xbd\xe2\x80\x9d($yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 15825 Apr 5 22:50 xe2\x80\x99\xe2\x80\x9aw\xe2\x82\xac\xc2\xbd\xe2\x80\x9d($yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 1055 Apr 5 22:39 \xe2\x80\x9aw\xe2\x82\xac\xc2\xbd\xe2\x80\x9d($yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 2110 Apr 5 22:50 xe2\x80\x9aw\xe2\x82\xac\xc2\xbd\xe2\x80\x9d($yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 2034 Apr 5 22:50 \xe2\x80\x9d($yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 4066 Apr 5 22:45 xe2\x80\x9d($yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 7212 Apr 6 13:30 \xe2\x80\xb9>$yA;_acc.log -rw------- 1 root root 3000 Apr 6 13:25 xe2\x80\xb9>$yA;_acc.log My question is where, and how can I filter these out, I don't want them on the filesystem (But actually I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep them logged, but in their correct VHost file) Here is an example VHost <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName xxx.xx DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/xxx <Directory /var/www/vhosts/xxx> AllowOverride All Options All RewriteEngine on </Directory> </VirtualHost> And the default "catch-all" vhost at the bottom of the vhosts config file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName default ServerAlias * ServerAlias catchall.xxx.xx DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/nodomain <Directory "/var/www/vhosts/nodomain"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride none Allow from All </Directory> CustomLog /dev/null combined ErrorLog /dev/null </VirtualHost> I had posted this in a related question but It's better in it's own question. • How to automatically restart Apache service after HTTP 503 error?

    - by Gnanam
Our production server is running Apache v2.2.4 on CentOS5.2. Mono v1.2.4 is integrated within Apache. Recently, we faced a problem in our production server. From Apache's access_log, I found a HTTP 500 internal server error for one of the HTTP request and all subsequent HTTP requests also failed but with HTTP 503 service unavailable error. From thereafter, none of the requests were successful. Also, only later some time, we realized that our application was not working because of this error and then we restarted Apache service. My questions are, in this kind of situation, how do I automatically restart Apache service when HTTP 503 error is encountered? Is there any Apache directive available to set? in general, what would cause a HTTP 503 error in Apache? NOTE: Mono helps in running applications developed in .NET on a Linux-based OS. EDIT: I agree on finding the root cause of this problem. In fact, we've been analyzing that too. Till we resolve it, am finding whether this could be restarted immediately on its own without having any downtime/service disruption for application users.

  • Apache2 doesn't serve PHP-scripts correctly

    - by cmbrnt
I've run into a problem with my Apache 2.2.16 configuration, running on Debian Squeeze. The problem is that it stopped serving PHP5-scripts completely. When I try to access the sites with Google Chrome, it instead downloads a file called "download", which contains the contents of the script. This is of course not a good thing. It does serve common html-files perfectly... I've been at this for quite a while now, and after all the googling and troubleshooting, I thought it would be a good time to ask you guys. Here's what I've got: The php5 and libapache2-mod-php5 packages are installed /etc/apache2/mods-available contains both php5.load and php5.conf, and these are symlinked from the mods-enabled directory The /etc/php5/ directory is left untouched since the installation. Here's the contents of /etc/apache2/mods-available/php.load: LoadModule php5_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so And /etc/apache2/mods-available/php.conf: <IfModule mod_php5.c> <FilesMatch "\.ph(p3?|tml)$"> SetHandler application/x-httpd-php </FilesMatch> <FilesMatch "\.phps$"> SetHandler application/x-httpd-php-source </FilesMatch> <IfModule mod_userdir.c> <Directory /home/*/public_html> php_admin_value engine Off </Directory> </IfModule> </IfModule> What am I missing? This is a server with modified virtual hosts and the like, so I might have changed some settings which causes this problem, but simply purging and reinstalling is not an option so far, since the configuration is quite extensive. Any help would be great. Thanks.

  • Silent and scripted install of CPAN and Perl modules?

    - by Mikael Grönfelt
I need to install CPAN and some Perl modules automatically in a Scientific Linux (RHEL) installation script. Unfortunately the specific modules I want (at least one of them) cannot be found as RPM:s as far as I've seen. So I need to install CPAN, configure it automatically (or with a config file) and then install the wanted modules (including dependencies) automatically as well. This doesn't seem like a very unusual requirement, but I haven't seen any really good documentation on this. The problem is that whenever CPAN is launched for the first time an interactive configuration runs. Can this be skipped somehow? And how do I launch module installations directly from the command line?

  • android compile error: could not reserve enough space for object heap

    - by moonlightcheese
I'm getting this error during compilation: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not create the Java virtual machine. Could not reserve enough space for object heap What's worse, the error occurs intermittently. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be dependent on the amount of code in the application. If I get rid of some variables or drop some imported libraries, it will compile. Then when I add more to it, I get the error again. I've included the following sources into the application in the [project_root]/src/ directory: org.apache.httpclient (I've stripped all references to log4j from the sources, so don't need it) org.apache.codec (as a dependency) org.apache.httpcore (dependency of httpclient) and my own activity code consisting of nothing more than an instance of HttpClient. I know this has something to do with the amount of memory necessary during compile time or some compiler options, and I'm not really stressing my system while i'm coding. I've got 2GB of memory on this Core Duo laptop and windows reports only 860MB page file usage (haven't used any other memory tools. I should have plenty of memory and processing power for this... and I'm only compiling some common http libs... total of 406 source files. What gives? Android API Level: 5 Android SDK rel 5 JDK version: 1.6.0_12

  • cgi.FieldStorage always empty - never returns POSTed form Data

    - by Dan Carlson
This problem is probably embarrassingly simple. I'm trying to give python a spin. I thought a good way to start doing that would be to create a simple cgi script to process some form data and do some magic. My python script is executed properly by apache using mod_python, and will print out whatever I want it to print out. My only problem is that cgi.FieldStorage() is always empty. I've tried using both POST and GET. Each trial I fill out both form fields. <form action="pythonScript.py" method="POST" name="ARGH"> <input name="TaskName" type="text" /> <input name="TaskNumber" type="text" /> <input type="submit" /> </form> If I change the form to point to a perl script it reports the form data properly. The python page always gives me the same result: number of keys: 0 #!/usr/bin/python import cgi def index(req): pageContent = """<html><head><title>A page from""" pageContent += """Python</title></head><body>""" form = cgi.FieldStorage() keys = form.keys() keys.sort() pageContent += "<br />number of keys: "+str(len(keys)) for key in keys: pageContent += fieldStorage[ key ].value pageContent += """</body></html>""" return pageContent I'm using Python 2.5.2 and Apache/2.2.3. This is what's in my apache conf file (and my script is in /var/www/python): <Directory /var/www/python/> Options FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI Order allow, deny allow from all AddHandler mod_python .py PythonHandler mod_python.publisher </Directory>

  • Manually filling opcode cache for entire app using apc_compile_file, then switching to new release.

    - by Ben
Does anyone have a great system, or any ideas, for doing as the title says? I want to switch production version of web app-- written in PHP and served by Apache-- from release 1234 to release 1235, but before that happens, have all files already in the opcode cache (APC). Then after the switch, remove the old cache entries for files from release 1234. As far as I can think of there are three easy ways of atomically switching from one version to the next. Have a symbolic link, for example /live, that is always the document root but is changed to point from one version to the next. Similarly, have a directory /live that is always the document root, but use mv live oldversion && mv newversion live to switch to new version. Edit apache configuration to change the document root to newversion, then restart apache. I think it is preferable not to have to do 3, but I can't think of anyway to precompile all php files AND use 1 or 2 to switch release. So can someone either convince me its okay to rely on option 3, or tell me how to work with 1 or 2, or reveal some other option I am not thinking of?

  • PHP: problem rendering large images (error 321)

    - by JP19
Hi ... its me again with a php problem :) Following is part of my PHP script which is rendering JPEG images. ... $tf=$requested_file; $image_type="jpeg"; header("Content-type: image/${image_type}"); $CMD="\$image=imagecreatefrom${image_type}('$tf'); image${image_type}(\$image);"; eval($CMD); exit; ... There is no syntactical error, because above code is working fine for small images, but for large images, it gives: Error 321 (net::ERR_INVALID_CHUNKED_ENCODING): Unknown error. in the browser. To be sure, I created two images using imagemagick from same source image - one resized to 10% of original and other 90%. http://mostpopularsports.net/images/misc/ttt10.jpg works http://mostpopularsports.net/images/misc/ttt90.jpg gives Error 301 in the browser. There is a related question with solution posted by OP here Error writing content through Apache. but I cannot understand how to make the fix. Can someome help me with it? I have looked at the headers in Chrome. For the first request, everything is fine. For the second request - the request headers are all garbled. Both images are jpeg (as they are created from imagemagick. But still to be sure I checked): misc/ttt10.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01 misc/ttt90.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01 Finally, the way I fixed is, remove the Transfer-Encoding: chunked header from the response. [This header was sent by apache only when the data was large enough]. (I had an internal proxy, so did it in the proxy script - otherwise one may need to do it in apache settings). There were some good answers and I have selected the one that helped me solve the problem best. thanks JP

  • How can I measure the time it takes a file to upload to a PHP script?

    - by Gustav Bertram
I am trying to measure the time a script takes to upload a file to a PHP script, inside the receiving script. Here's a short example: <form action="#" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post"> Upload: <input type="file" name="datafile" size="40"> <input type="submit" value="Send"> </form> <?php $upload_time = time() - $_SERVER['REQUEST_TIME']; echo $upload_time . " seconds."; I've submitted 4MB, 25MB, 100MB and 1.4GB files. They took anything from a fraction of a second, to almost a minute, yet the script above always yielded 0 seconds. NOTE: I know that this is a duplicate question, but the accepted answer on the other question did not work for me (at least, initially): Detect how long it takes for a file to upload (PHP) I've tried it using PHP 5.3.3 with Apache 2.2.16 on Ubuntu 10.4. UPDATE: I've discovered that both the Apache header and Ajax solutions work. In fact, the solution on the duplicate question also works. The critical element to making these solutions work is to ensure that the following values in the php.ini are sufficiently high: memory_limit = 1000M upload_max_filesize = 1000M post_max_size = 1000M I am accepting the Apache header solution, since it only uses PHP.

  • [^.] causing headache in RewriteRule

    - by Ollie2893
I am struggling with a very basic regex problem in my .htaccess file that I hope someone may be able to shed some light on. The basic premise is that I would like to teach Apache to switch any .html extension into a .var extension. I had thought that the rule would be positively trivial: RewriteRule ^([^.]+)\.html$ $1.var But the [^.] part simply doesn't work. Bizarrely, it works like so RewriteRule ^([^A-Z]+)\.html$ $1.var I do not understand why this latter rule works. Assume I am looking for a file called "index.html" then $1 should match to "index." and the ".html" bit should actually fail to match. To widen the scope of the question slightly, I am actually racking my brain on how to implement a multi-lingual site. I don't like Apache's MultiView option because it forces upon me a flat directory structure with file extensions that aren't recognizable to many development tools. I could go the .var type-map route but am finding that the default config for Apache doesn't support this all that well either (hence my excursions into regex land). So while I am using mod_rewrite, I am thinking that I might go the whole hog: whenever a request for a name.html file is received and this file does not exist, check whether there exists a XX/name.html file instead, where "XX" is the language code according to the user's preferences. This would give me a neater directory structure, though it does perhaps not perform as well as the .var approach in a situation where the language preference of the user's browser is not supported in by my site (in which situation .var would substitute EN or similar). Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • Globally define parts of virtualhost definition to reduce redundancy

    - by user1428900
I have setup an apache server and this apache server points to a bunch of virtualhosts. The definition of the virtualhosts are as follows, <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName <url> RewriteEngine on ReWriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !^443$ RewriteRule ^/(.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [NC,R,L] # Enable client-side caching of resources ExpiresActive On ExpiresByType image/png "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType image/jpeg "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType image/gif "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType application/javascript "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType application/x-javascript "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType text/javascript "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType text/css "now plus 48 hours" </VirtualHost> . . . <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName <url> RewriteEngine on ReWriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !^443$ RewriteRule ^/(.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [NC,R,L] # Enable client-side caching of resources ExpiresActive On ExpiresByType image/png "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType image/jpeg "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType image/gif "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType application/javascript "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType application/x-javascript "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType text/javascript "now plus 48 hours" ExpiresByType text/css "now plus 48 hours" </VirtualHost> I have a ton of virtual host definitions similar to the examples shown above. Since, most of the definitions other than the ServerName are the same, I was wondering if there was a way to define these common definitions globally. I am new to apache configuration and I felt that as the number of virtualhost definitions increase my configuration file becomes longer and redundant.

  • Nginx as a proxy to Tomcat

    - by user36812
Pardon me, this is my first attempt at Nginx-Jetty instead of Apache-JK-Tomcat. I deployed myapp.war file to $JETTY_HOME/webapps/, and the app is accessible at the url: http://myIP:8080/myapp I did a default installation of Nginx, and the default Nginx page is accessible at myIP Then, I modified the default domain under /etc/nginx/sites-enabled to the following: server { listen 80; server_name mydomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/localhost.access.log; location / { #root /var/www/nginx-default; #index index.html index.htm; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/; } error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root /var/www/nginx-default; } } Now I get the index page of mypp (running in jetty) when I hit myIP, which is good. But all the links are malformed. eg. The link to css is mydomain.com/myapp/css/style.css while what it should have been is mydomain.com/css/style.css. It seems to be mapping mydomain.com to 127.0.0.1:8080 instead of 127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/ Any idea what am missing? Do I need to change anything on the Jetty side too?

  • Apache2 configuration error: "<VirtualHost> was not closed" error.

    - by Chris
So I've already checked through my config file and I really can't see an instance where any tag hasn't been properly closed...but I keep getting this configuration error...Would you mind taking a look through the error and the config file below? • Two domains, two servers, one dynamic IP address

    - by giantman
I have two domains hi.org and bye.net and one dynamic IP address and two servers. I want to attach one domain bye.net to server1 and hi.org to server2. I'm using Apache wamp 2.0i. I have two servers behind one router with a dynamic IP address #httpd.conf file additions <IfModule mod_proxy.c> ProxyRequests Off <Proxy *> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> </IfModule> #vhost file additions NameVirtualHost *:80 #default <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www/fallback" </VirtualHost> # Server 1 <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www" ServerName h**p://bye.net ServerAlias bye.net </VirtualHost> # Server 2 <VirtualHost *:80> ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyPass / h**p://192.168.1.119/ DocumentRoot "g:/wamp/www" ServerName h**p://hi.org ServerAlias hi.org </VirtualHost> After doing all this I fallback to server1 only I don't get the page hi.org I only get the page bye.net, I don't even get the default fallback page which gets executed when a person enters IP address but not the domain name. I use Windows 7 (server 2) and Windows XP (server 1) UPDATE: I needed to remove DocumentRoot "g:/wamp/www" line :D it was there by mistake! things are working fine now. But one thing: the URL gets replaced by the local ip address any way to not make that happen?

  • Hosting a javascript api file for third party sites the way sharethis, uservoice, analytics do it.

    - by Dayson
I'm preparing to launch a service soon which will provide third party websites a widget. The widget requires my javascript file in the website's code. Exactly the same way services like analytics, uservoice, sharethis, getclicky, etc provide you with a javascript snippet to add to your page. Therefore, my javascript file is going to be hotlinked by tons of websites which possibly receive a lot of requests too. I need advice/opinions on the following aspects: What's the right location for hosting this file? Should I use a sub-domain for it? I was thinking of something like http://api.myservice.com/js/foo.js . Remember, once websites start embedding this file, its location CANNOT change under any circumstances. Right now we can afford just one dedicated server. So I have minified my file, enabled gzip and plan to use some good cache control headers through apache. Also, in the near future when the requests pickup, I will use a http proxy like Varnish. Is this a good plan for the near future? Should I be considering a CDN in the future (since we can't afford it now)? If so how do I make sure we're prepared to migrate to it without breaking services. Pros/Cons of moving just this file to a CDN? Also, since its just one javascript file(50kb), any affordable CDN so we could consider it in the beginning itself? Any other word of advice I could use? Anything I shouldn't overlook at this stage which I would regret later? (both in terms of server + javascript ajax limitations) Thanks in advance.

  • mod_proxy incorrect redirect behaviour

    - by Kevin Loney
In chrome this configuration causes an infinite redirect loop and in every other browser I have tried a request for https://www.example.com/servlet/foo is resulting in a redirect to https://www.example.com/foo/ instead of https://www.example.com/servlet/foo/ however this only occurs when I do not include a trailing / at the end of the request url (i.e. http://www.flightboard.net/servlet/foo/ works just fine). <VirtualHost *:80> # ... RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/servlet(/.*)?$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}$1 [R=301,L] </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443> # ... ProxyPass /servlet/ ajp://localhost:8009/ ProxyPassReverse /servlet/ ajp://localhost:8009/ </VirtualHost> The virtual host on port 443 has no rewrite rules that could possibly causing the problem, the tomcat contexts being referenced do not send any redirects, and if I change the ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse directives to: ProxyPass / ajp://localhost:8009/ ProxyPassReverse / ajp://localhost:8009/ everything works fine (except for the fact everything from www.example.com is being passed to the proxy which is not the behaviour I want). I'm fairly certain this is a problem with the way I have my proxy settings configured because I did log all the rewrite output coming from apache and it was all correct.

  • How to set the VirtualDocumentRoot based on the files within

    - by Chuck Vose
I'm trying to set up Apache to use the VirtualDocumentRoot directive but my sites aren't all exactly the same. Most of the sites have a drupal folder which should be the root but there are a few really old drupal sites, a few rails sites, some django sites, etc. that want the Document root to be / or some other folder. Is there a way to set up VirtualDocumentRoot based on a conditional or is there a way to use RewriteRule/Cond to detect that / is the incorrect folder if there is a drupal folder or a public folder? Here's what I have so far: <VirtualHost *:80> # Wildcard ServerAlias, this is the default vhost if no specific vhost matches first. ServerAlias *.unicorn.devserver.com # Automatic ServerName, based on the HTTP_HOST header. UseCanonicalName Off # Automatic DocumentRoot. This uses the 4th level domain name as the document root, # for example http://bar.foo.baz.com/ would respond with /Users/vosechu/Sites/bar/drupal. VirtualDocumentRoot /Users/vosechu/Sites/%-4/drupal </VirtualHost> Thanks in advance! -Chuck

  • Webserver optimization

    - by f-aminov
Hi guys! I have a website hosted on a VPS (512Mb - minimum guranteed memory, 510Mhz proccessor, Debian 5.0 Lenny, Apache 2.2.9 with nginx 0.7.65 as a frontend to serve static content, MySQL 5.1.44, PHP 5.3.2 with APC caching). I'm a web developer, so I'm not very good at optimizing servers, but I've managed to install and setup all those neccessary components (LAMP, nginx, etc.). After that I decided to stress test my website (which uses Drupal 6.16 with caching and all possible optimization enabled) using a utility called "Webserver Stress Tool 7". And it seems to me that the results aren't any good - here is a graph (sorry, as a new user I'm not allowed to post images) As you can see the response time depending on amount of simultaneous users increases very quickly. With 10 simultaneous users the time is about 1000ms, with 100 simultaneous users it's about 15000ms (15s!). The question is do you think this is normal behavior for such a server or something is wrong with the settings and optimization? If you think something is wrong what particulary could be wrong? Any other suggestion how to speed this a little bit up?
