But I’m surprised to find that the Application_Start event I would normally use from Global.asax is not available from a HttpModule. Is that correct, or am I missing something here?   • Static Website - Converting to Dynamic, need to import information from database on different host

    This seems really complicated to ask about so I hope someone can help: We have a long time running static website held with a hosting company that provide PHP, Ruby-on-Rails and Drupal/Joomla support. A little limited I know but we got reasonably decent search engine rankings and didn't want them to drop. We have two much more recently created sites on another host written in Python/Django. The original site is now too big to handle statically and we want to create a more dynamic site in its place without changing servers/webhosts. The data we want to provide the 'new' dynamic site is from the same database providing the Django sites. What is the best solution to build the new site with? Is it better to create PHP pages that connect to the database on the other host? Ruby-on-rails seems like a very fast development environment not too dissimilar to Django, would we be able to fetch data from the existing databases into a rails site and use similar urls to our old static pages?

  • ASP.Net ListBox selections not working in Panel?

    Hi everyone, I'm having trouble processing a listbox after selecting some items from it. In my markup, the listbox is contained within an asp:panel and is populated during page load in the codebehind. That part works fine. It's when I select various items and submit that I have trouble. My handler loops through the listbox items but doesn't see any as being selected. I'm not sure why.     Hi to all, first i would like to say i am Newbie in C++. As part of my master thesis i am writing a program in C++ which also get as parameters the variables m and d (both integers). Were d is the power of 2 (this means 2^d elements). Parameter m define the number of possible interactions between one element and the total group (2^d elements). The number of possible interactions is computed as following: \kappa = \sum_{i=0}^m\binom{d}{i} (at present i generate vector of vectors for 2^d x \kappa, but my Prof. would like me to create different statistics to different m's. My first though was to to generate a dynamic array of m arrays of different sizes... Then i though of defining a 3-dim array with the biggest needed 2d array, but also program speed is important (e.g d = 20). i would like to ask for your advice how to define such kind of dynamic array that will also be fast.     Hi Guys, I simply want to create a fairly basic REST service, so that I can expose some of the data in my asp.net/SQL server application to the outside works, like this..... http://domain.com/api/offices - would return an xml set of office locations. http://domain.com/api/offices/15 - would return all the details of office 15. It's all fairly standard stuff (including basic authentication) but there seem to be several ways to achieve this using Microsoft technologies and I don't really know where to start. These seem to be the options... 1) WCF 2) ASP.NET MVC 3) ADO.NET Data Services 4) Rest Starter Kit project templates? Which of these is the easiest and most "up-to-date" solution to creating a web service?

    I'm trying to solve a variant of the dot game with dynamic programming. The regular dot game is played with a line of dots. Each player takes either one or two dots at their respective end of the line and the person who is left with no dots to take wins. In this version of the game, each dot has a different value. Each player takes alternate turns and takes either dot at either end of the line. I want to come up with a way to use dynamic programming to find the max amount that the first player is guaranteed to win. I'm having problems grasping my head around this and trying to write a recurrence for the solution. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected: Dealing with these errors proactively, or a

    I'm noticing this error more and more in my error logs. I've read through the questions here talking about this error, but they don't address what I would like to do (see below). I'm considering three options, in the order of preference: 1) When submitting a form (I use formviews almost exclusively, if that helps), if potentially dangerous characters are detected, automatically strip them out and submit. 2) When submitting a form, if potentially dangerous characters are detected, alert the user and let them fix it before trying again. 3) After the exception is generated, deal with it and alert the user. I'm hoping one of the first two options might be able to do somewhat globally...I know for the 3rd I'd have to alter a TON of Try-Catch blocks I already have in place. Doable, but labor intensive. I'd rather be proactive about it if at all possible and avoid the exception all together. Perhaps one approach to #1 would be to write a block of code that could loop through all text entry fields in a formview, during the insert/update event, and strip the characters out. I'm ok with that, but I'd rather not have to heavily alter all my Insert/Update events to accomplish this. Or maybe I just create a different class to do the text checking/deleting, and only insert 1 line of code in each Insert/Update event. If anyone can come up with some example code of any of these approaches that would be a help. Thanks for any ideas or information. I'm definitely open to other solutions too; these are only the 3 that came to mind. I can say that I don't want to turn request validation off though.

  • How to Check .Net 2.0 assembly for Calls to .Net 3.5

    I've found an issue I believe where an assembly is making a call to a .Net3.5 method in a .Net2.0 only environment. (None on the .Net service packs nor .Net 3.5 is installed) I'd like to know if there are any programs that I can run like FXCop to check an assembly for adherence to only making method calls that are available in .Net 2.0 without the 3.5 extensions that were added. I've been bitten by this before and I'd like to have a way to check assemblies so that before they are released they can be checked to prevent these kinds of issues. Please don't say require .Net 3.5 because whilst I'd like to go to this, it's just not possible at this point.

That obviously goes strait to "index.asp" A line of Main.asp: <!--#include file="resource/menu.asp"--> Page top includes all of what I need for my menu... so: Part of resource/menu.htm: <div id="colortab" class="ddcolortabs"> <ul> <li><a href="main.asp" title="Main" rel="dropmain"><span>Main</span></a></li> ... </ul> </div> <!--Main drop down menu --> <div id="dropmain" class="dropmenudiv_a"> <a href="main/announcements.asp">Announcements</a> <a href="main/contacts.asp">Contact Information</a> <a href="main/MeetingPlans.asp">Meeting Plan</a> <a href="main/photos.asp">Photo Gallery</a> <a href="main/events.asp">Upcoming Events</a> </div> Let's say I click on the "announcements" (http://blah.com/login/main/announcements.asp) link... Now I'm at the announcements page! But wait, I include the same menu file. Guess what happens: I get sent to "http://blah.com/login/main/main/announcements.asp Which doesn't exist... My solution: Make a menu_sub.asp include for any subpages. But wait a second... this WORKS, but it gets REALLY REALLY messy... What can I do to use just one main "menu.asp" instead of "menu_sub.asp"? using "/main/announcements.asp" WON'T be an option because this is a web application that will be on different directories per server. Any ideas? PLEASE

    I am using System.Linq.Dynamic to do custom where clauses from an ajax call in .Net MVC 1.0. It works fine for strings, int etc but not for DateTime, I get the exception cannot compare String to DateTime. The very simple test code is items = items.Where(string.Format(@" {0} {1}{2}{1} ", searchField, delimiter, searchString)); Where searchField will be for example start_date and the data type is DateTime, delimiter is " (tried with nothing as well) and searchString will be 01-Jan-2009 (tried with 01/01/2009 as well) and items is an IQueryable from LinqToSql. Is there a way of specifying the data type in a dynamic where, or is there a better approach. It is currently already using some reflection to work out what type of delimiter is required.

    I am using the MSDN Dynamic linq to sql package. It allows using strings for queries. But, the returned type is an IQueryable and not an IQueryable<T>. I do not have the ToList() method. How can I this immediate execute without manually enumerating over the IQueryable? My goal is to databind to the Selecting event on a linqtosql datasource and that throws a datacontext disposed exception. I can set the query as the Datasource on a gridview though. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks. The dynamic linq to sql is the one from the samples that comes with visual studio.

  • IIS doesn't send two responses to the same client at the same time (only for ASP)

    I've got 2 ASP pages. I do a request to the first page from Firefox (which takes 30 seconds to process on server-side), and during the execution of 30 seconds I do another request from Firefox to the second page (takes less than 1 second in server-side), but it does come after 31 second. Because it waits first requests to finish. When I request to the first page from Firefox and then request the second page from IE it's just instant. So basically ASP - IIS 6 somehow limiting every client to one request (long processing request) at a time. I need to get around this problem in my .NET client application. This is tested in 3 different systems. If you want to test you can try the ASP scripts at the end. This behaviour is same in a long SQL execution or just in a time consuming ASP operation. Note: It's not about HTTP Keep Alive It's not about persistent connection limit (we tried to increase this in firefox and in .NET with Net.ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit) It's not about User Agent This doesn't happen in ASP.NET so I assume it's something to the with ASP.dll I'm trying to solve this on the client not the server. I don't have direct control over the server it's a 3rd party solution. Is there any way to get around this?
