    I'm experimenting with using cagradientlayer to draw gradients in our app instead of having a subclass of uiview manage gradients. One snafu that i've come across is that when the view that has the gradient as a sublayer of its main layer gets resized to fit the data i am trying to show, the layer doesn't resize along with it. I end up having the gradient layer end at the original frame size while my view's frame is much larger. Is there a way to have the sublayer autoresize to fit its superlayer's frame, or the superlayer's view's frame?

  • How to sum up a fetched result's number property based on the object's category?

    I have a NSFetchRequest that is returning all my saved objects (call them Items) and storing them in an NSMutableArray. Each of these Items have a category, an amount, and some other properties. My goal is to check the category of each Item and store the sum of the amounts for objects of the same category. So if I had these Items: Red; 10.00 Blue; 20.00 Green; 5.00 Red; 5.00 Green; 15.00 then I would have an array or other type of container than has: Red; 15.00 Blue; 20.00 Green; 20.00 What would be the best way to organize the data in such a manner? I was going to create a object class (call it Totals) that just has the category and amount. As I traverse through the fetch results in a for-loop, add Items with the same category in a Totals object an store them in a NSMutableArray. The problem I ran into with that is that I'm not sure how to check if an array contains a Totals object with a specific property. Specifically, a category that already exists. So if 'Red' exists, add the amount to it, otherwise create a new Totals object with category 'Red' and a the first Item's amount. Thanks.

    As a workaround for a problem, I think I have to handle KeyDown events to get the printable character the user actually typed. KeyDown supplies me with a KeyEventArgs object with the properities KeyCode, KeyData, KeyValue, Modifiers, Alt, Shift, Control. My first attempt was just to consider the KeyCode to be the ascii code, but KeyCode on my keyboard is 46, a period ("."), so I end up printing a period when the user types the delete key. So, I know my logic is inadequate. (For those who are curious, the problem is that I have my own combobox in a DataGridView's control collection and somehow SOME characters I type don't produce the KeyPress and TextChanged ComboBox events. These letters include Q, $, %.... This code will reproduce the problem. Generate a Form App and replace the ctor with this code.   • CSS to position text based on Top of text?

    When I change the size of a font in CSS, how do I make it so no matter what size the font is (from 12px to 200px), that the "Cap Height" (pic) of the text will always 'visually' have 10px padding on top? Otherwise what I'm doing is every time I change the font size, I have to go back and reposition the top/margin-top etc.

  • Generating dynamic C# based on textual data into the runtime?

    Is there a quick and easy way to load textual C# into a program. I would like to load the LINQ from the database as an Expression and run it against some data (SQL or Array/List don't mind). I know I can do it using the C# CodeDom/ExpressionTree builder with Assembly Loading and Creating AppDomains, but this seems very long winded. Is there an easier way. I thought with the advent of .net 3.5 that the ExpressionTree would come to my aid, but I now realise that I have to write a parser to use this. Maybe there is a new trick in 4.0? Something along the lines of a dynamic languages Parse would be great. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Short of using static IP addresses, is it possible to have a Cisco ASA use a DNS name rather than an IP address? For instance, if I want to limit a host in the DMZ to access only one particular web service, but that web service might be globally load balanced or using DynDNS or cloud, how can the ACL be expressed so that a fixed IP address isn't used and the admin doesn't have to keep opening and closing down IP addresses?

  • jQuery - Show field based on value of a type-hidden on refresh.

    Hello, I'm trying to create something in jQuery and having a bit of problems with it. I'm not too adept on the framework, so I'm sure this is all wrong. Anyways, the ultimate goal is a full form that contains 3 radio buttons - depending on the value of the button, a LI is shown. I have all of that done, but my problem is coming with validation. If something fails then the page is reloaded and the div that was selected doesn't show without clicking another radio first, then back to the original. This process is basically the same as someone came up with here. Here's what I got so far.     I have a fairly simple domain model involving a list of Facility aggregate roots. Given that I'm using CQRS and an event-bus to handle events raised from the domain, how could you handle validation on sets? For example, say I have the following requirement: Facility's must have a unique name. Since I'm using an eventually consistent database on the query side, the data in it is not guaranteed to be accurate at the time the event processesor processes the event. For example, a FacilityCreatedEvent is in the query database event processing queue waiting to be processed and written into the database. A new CreateFacilityCommand is sent to the domain to be processed. The domain services query the read database to see if there are any other Facility's registered already with that name, but returns false because the CreateNewFacilityEvent has not yet been processed and written to the store. The new CreateFacilityCommand will now succeed and throw up another FacilityCreatedEvent which would blow up when the event processor tries to write it into the database and finds that another Facility already exists with that name.

  • Web based API that can tell me if a number is a landline or cell phone?

    My application sends SMS messages to people, but the numbers entered in as their cell phone are sometimes land lines (this is user error or the user not really knowing if the contact number they have is a cell phone or landline.) I found a few websites that can tell me if a number is a landline or cell phone, but they do not offer programatic API's. Is anyone aware of a way a web application can figure out if a number can receive SMS messages? I guess a test SMS message is one way, but my current SMS gateway fails hard when it gets a landline number and doesn't tell me the landline number it tried to send the SMS to. I'll follow this up with my carrier, but I would love an easy way to let the user entering phone numbers in if they are a landline or cell number. Update: There are ways to figure this out. Take a look at http://www.phonevalidator.com, they can query a phone number and figure out if it is a landline or cell phone.

    Hey guys. I'm building a website where I hook people up so that they can anonymously vent to strangers. You either choose to be a listener, or a talker, and then you get catapulted into a one-on-one chat room. The reason for the app's construction is because you often can't vent to friends, because your deepest vulnerabilities can often be leveraged against you later on. (Like it or not, this is a part of human nature. Sad.) I'm looking for some insight into how I should architect everything. I found this neat tutorial, http://giantflyingsaucer.com/blog/?p=875, which suggests using python & stackless + flash. Someone else suggested I should try using p2p sockets, but I don't even know where to begin to look for info on that. Any other suggestions? I'd like to keep it simple. :^)

    I have an existing IDA Pro project for a C166 processor embedded application. This project already has many functions, variables, etc defined. There are different versions of the embedded application I am looking at. The different versions of the application are 99% the same, but with slight variations in code and data that cause functions and variables to be at different memory offsets. I want to create a new IDA project for a different version of the application. I would like to somehow import all of my function and variable definitions from my existing IDA project. I would like IDA to recognize the signatures of the existing function definitions and define them at there new location in the new project. How can I do this? Are there certain plugins for IDA I can chain together?

    Hey folks, i have a large user Database (13k+), and for some reason i need to create random names. The users table has "first_name" and "last_name". Now i want to have 10 concats of full_name and last_name of two completely random rows. Is that even possible with SQL? My other idea was just to create a full_names and last_names table … but that would'nt be as much challenging. Oh, and it should not take up too much performance :) (so order by rand() is not an option ;))

    I know that a properly implemented SessionStateStoreProvider maintains an exclusive lock on session data for the duration of a request. However, considering that multiple requests could arrive simultaneously (e.g. via IFRAMEs) all but one would be able to make forward progress. All the other requests would block for a bit and reduce the number of worker threads available during that time. It seems if ASP.NET "peeked" at the session IDs on the requests early on, it could avoid running requests simultaneously that were on the same session. This would improve throughput under load for pages that didn't want to give up using IFRAMEs. This seems plausible enough that it might be true.

    I have a column in my DB that is set with Identity(1,1) and I can't get hibernate annotations to work for it. I get errors when I try to create a new record. In my entity I have the following. @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.IDENTITY, generator="native") @Column(name="SeqNo", unique=true, nullable=false) BigDecimal seqNo; But when I try to add a new record I get the following error. Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'MemberSelectedOptions' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF. I don't want to set IDENTIY_INSERT to ON because I want the identity column in the db to manage the values. The SQL that is run is the following; where you can clearly see the insert. insert into dbo.MemberSelectedOptions (OptionStatusCd, EffectiveDate, TermDate, SelectionStatusDate, SysLstUpdtUserId, SysLstTrxDtm, SourceApplication, GroupId, MemberId, OptionId, SeqNo) values (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)   • What is the best way to read files in an EventMachine-based app?

    In order not to block the reactor I would like to read files asynchronously, but I've found no obvious way of doing it using EventMachine. I've tried a few different approaches, but none of them feels right: Just read the file, it'll block the reactor, but what the hell, it's not that slow (unless it's a big file, and then it definitely is). Open the file for reading and read a chunk on each tick (but how much to read? too much and it'll block the reactor, too little and reading will get slower than necessary). EM.popen('cat some/file', FileReader) feels really weird, but works better than the alternatives above. In combination with the LineAndTextProtocol it reads lines pretty swiftly. EM.attach, but I haven't found any examples of how to use it, and the only thing I've found on the mailing list is that it's deprecated in favour of… EM.watch, which I've found no examples of how to use for reading files. How do you read files within a EventMachine reactor loop?

    It was hard to title this question. :) I have a user control that is used to display a list of lookup items in my database and a delete button for each item (Editor User Control below). The delete button has an onClientClick event used to display a confirmation dialog in JavaScript. On page one, the confirmation pops up and functions correctly. The overall structure is: Master Page Page Editor User Control List of items with delete button On page two, the confirmation pops up but regardless of the answer, the page posts back anyway.   • How to have partial incremental synchronizations based on a GUID?

    I need to synchronize an SQL Server database to Oracle through an Oracle Transparent Gateway. The synchronization is performed in batches, so I need to get the next set of data from the point where I left off. The problem I'm having is that the only field I have in the source, to help me, is a GUID. If it were a number I could just order by it, keep the last one processed and restart the process by getting the records which are my recorded number. This won't work with a GUID. Any ideas?

    The requirements: Each Node in the list must contain a reference to its previous sibling Each Node in the list must contain a reference to its next sibling Each Node may have a list of child nodes Each child Node must have a reference to its parent node Basically what we have is a tree structure of arbitrary depth and length. Something like: -root(NULL) --Node1 ----ChildNode1 ------ChildOfChild --------AnotherChild ----ChildNode2 --Node2 ----ChildNode1 ------ChildOfChild ----ChildNode2 ------ChildOfChild --Node3 ----ChildNode1 ----ChildNode2 Given any individual node, you need to be able to either traverse its siblings. the children, or up the tree to the root node. A Node ends up looking something like this: class Node { Node* previoius; Node* next; Node* child; Node* parent; } I have a container class that stores these and provides STL iterators. It performs your typical linked list accessors. So insertAfter looks like: void insertAfter(Node* after, Node* newNode) { Node* next = after->next; after->next = newNode; newNode->previous = after; next->previous = newNode; newNode->next = next; newNode->parent = after->parent; } That's the setup, now for the question. How would one move a node (and its children etc) to another list without leaving the previous list dangling? For example, if Node* myNode exists in ListOne and I want to append it to listTwo. Using pointers, listOne is left with a hole in its list since the next and previous pointers are changed. One solution is pass by value of the appended Node. So our insertAfter method would become: void insertAfter(Node* after, Node newNode); This seems like an awkward syntax. Another option is doing the copying internally, so you'd have: void insertAfter(Node* after, const Node* newNode) { Node *new_node = new Node(*newNode); Node* next = after->next; after->next = new_node; new_node->previous = after; next->previous = new_node; new_node->next = next; new_node->parent = after->parent; } Finally, you might create a moveNode method for moving and prevent raw insertion or appending of a node that already has been assigned siblings and parents. // default pointer value is 0 in constructor and a operator bool(..) // is defined for the Node bool isInList(const Node* node) const { return (node->previous || node->next || node->parent); } // then in insertAfter and friends if(isInList(newNode) // throw some error and bail I thought I'd toss this out there and see what folks came up with.
