• How to extend a website?

  This is quite a concept idea. I would like to create a website that can be extend by different programmer a bit "a la facebook" Let's me explain i want to develop a very simple core application that for example would store images and i want to develop or allow external developer to develop web app that would be able to act on the image i can take this example of an OS that would store files and you can "install" different program for example to view the files or edit. How can i reproduce the model in the Web / cloud plateform using API ? I hope this question make sense to any body. Thank you by advance

• Google Maps custom marker - can the iframe accept one like the static maps?

  I was reading the static maps API, and it says you can include a custom marker in the GET params. You simply link to an image file. I now have a second Google Map within an iframe, and was wondering if you can attach custom markers via the GET params to it? Here is the src attribute of the iframe currently. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=111+Fake+Street+Noosaville+Queensland+Australia&ie=UTF8&output=embed I can't seem to find the documentation on how to do this, if possible. Is this possible?

• 400 error when submitting tumblr post (ruby on rails)

  I am having a bit of an issue with getting tumblr working within a rails app. This is the snippet of code which results in a 400 error (meaning that there was an incorrect parameter) @postcontent = @post.content.gsub(/<\/?[^>]*>/, "") post = Tumblr::Post.create(:email => 'valid@email', :password => 'mypassword', :type => 'video', :embed = @post.video_html, :caption = @postcontent) I have checked the API docs and checked my code and code content being rendered, and it still does not want to work. The funny thing is that it worked previously. It was working about a week ago. Has something changed with tumblr?

• Adding Street View controls (the two icons just above the +) to a Google Map (v3)

  It's probably something really simple, but I can't find it in the docs and I can't find a map with it to check it's source... I use version 3 of the API. I guess it's an something to add in myOptions? var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(-34.397, 150.644); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP } map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map_canvas'), myOptions); Currently I only have dragging controls and the zoom pane controls. I would like to have the two Street View controls icons too. If you want full source, I'm using this example as a base (how would you add Street View controls to this example?).

  I'm really new to programming, and I need some advice. I'm currently working on a very simple program to maintain a list of users at a company, as well as their clock in and clock out info. I would like to make this application easy to distribute (on a cd probably), and I'm looking for advice on which database to use for storing my data. My application is implemented using java and swing. A friend recommended MySQL, but I don't want to go installing the db server on every computer the application is installed on. Another friend recommended Access. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

  I am interested in a way how to read GPU temperature (graphics processing unit, main chip of graphic card), by using some video card driver API? Everyone knows that there two different chip manufacturers (popular ones, at least) - ATI and nVIDIA - so there are two different kinds of drivers to read temperature from. I'm interested in learning how to do it for each different card driver. Language in question is irrelevant - it could be C/C++, .NET platform, Java, but let's say that .NET is preferred.   I am connecting to MySQL database on my webpage and have this copy-pasted code for errors: if(DB::isError($db)) die($db->getMessage()); I have the connection code in an outside file called connection.inc that I include at the beginning of my page before the DOCTYPE and html tags. For debugging purposes, how can I print the database errors on my webpage? I thought I could do something like this: echo 'Could not connect to database. The error was:' . $db->getMessage(); but this returns: Fatal error: Call to undefined method DB_mysql::getMessage()

• Ruby: would using Fibers increase my DB insert throughput?

  Currently I am using Ruby 1.9.1 and the 'ruby-mysql' gem, which unlike the 'mysql' gem is written in ruby only. This is pretty slow actually, as it seems to insert at a rate of almost 1 per second (SLOOOOOWWWWWW). And I have a lot of inserts to make too, its pretty much what this script does ultamitely. I am using just 1 connection (since I am using just one thread). I am hoping to speed things up by creating a fiber that will create a new DB connection insert 1-3 records close the DB connection I would imagine launching 20-50 of these would greatly increase DB throughput. Am I correct to go along this route? I feel that this is the best option, as opposed to refactoring all of my DB code :(

• How can I create numbered map markers in Google Maps V3?

  I'm working on a map that has multiple markers on it. These markers use a custom icon, but I'd also like to add numbers on top. I've seen how this has been accomplished using older versions of the API. How can I do this in V3? *Note -- the "title" attribute creates a tooltip when you mouseover the marker, but I want something that will be layered on top of the custom image even when you're not hovering on top of it. • Can you control pinterest's "find image" results?

  Rather than add Pin It buttons through our site, I would like to simply control what images show up in Pinterest's "Find Image" results if a user decides to pin one of our URLs. As of now, "Find Images" allows the user to scroll through the images it finds on the page so they can select which image to pin. The "found" images start with the first jpg in the html file, I'm assuming (could that be a bad assumption??). On our site, this forces a user to scroll through about 15 navigation and promotion images before arriving at the featured product image. Is there any way to specify this image to show first in those results? Maybe through a meta tag, or by adding a class or id to the element? Without a public Pinterest API, this seems like just guesswork, but I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this, or solved this. Thanks.

• Self-referential ReferenceProperty in Google App Engine

  I'm having a bit of trouble with ReferencePropertys in App Engine (Python). For a bit of fun, I'm trying to model a folder/file system, but having trouble getting folders to reference folders. My first attempt was this: class Folder(db.Model): id = db.StringProperty() name = db.StringProperty() created = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now_add=True) folder = db.ReferenceProperty(Folder, collection_name="folders") But that fails as "Folder" isn't defined when "folder" is trying to be defined. I've also tried defining "folder" outside of the main declaration for "Folder", like so: class Folder(db.Model): id = db.StringProperty() name = db.StringProperty() created = db.DateTimeProperty(auto_now_add=True) Folder.folder = db.ReferenceProperty(Folder, collection_name="folders") But that fails with: AttributeError: 'Folder' object has no attribute 'folders' I'm kind of stumped. Does anyone have experience with this, or a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.

  As you know, a lot of bigger news websites have intorduced "social readers" for Facebook (e.g. https://apps.facebook.com/wpsocialreader/), which log what the user has read into the activity stream ("Michael read..."). Is it possible to integrate similar functionality into a Wordpress blog? Are the relevant API's open? Are there any plugins available? Thanks.   I'm using google maps api to have a map show up on my website where visitors can also find directions. I have a starting point setup and an end point. Both are text areas. The start is empty, but I want the end point to be populated with the address from a div that I already have in the page. I have the javascript as: var address = document.getElementById("address").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); It works in Chrome, but Firefox shows the text in the endpoint box as 'undefined.' And Firebug is giving me - document.getElementById("address").innerText is undefined [Break On This Error] var address = document.getElementB...ress").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); Any help is appreciated. • Can't get Facebook's user photos with php

  I'm trying to get the user photos, but I cannot get the user's photos data. I'm trying this: $photos = $facebook->api('https://graph.facebook.com/'.$profileFID.'/photos?access_token='.$access_token); print_r($photos); I'm sure the URL is correct since pasting it in the browser shows the photos array. However when I try to print the array to check if I got it I get only this: ( [id] => https://graph.facebook.com/1409006586/photos ) How can I get the full array with the user photos?

• Shared static classes between AppDomains in loaded library code

  I'm working on a program in which I want to do something similar to what the Photon Server system does: Offer a common "API" class library, which contains common data classes, enumerations, and interfaces for working with the host program. Have client programs (class libraries) reference this DLL and implement interfaces listed within it. Have the "host" application load built DLL client libraries into separate AppDomains and reference the interfaces that lie within to have polymorphic client code from within a dll file. I have something like this worked out: a class library that contains common code, but I've run into the following question How should I handle static classes? Should I add a method that is called by the host program to synchronize data? How do I keep a static class the same between AppDomains? Should I discard these classes in favor of better interfaces between the code levels? And in general, how do I share data between these loaded AppDomains?

  I've got some json from last.fm's api which I've serialised into a dictionary using simplejson. A quick example of the basic structure is below. { "artist": "similar": { "artist": { "name": "Blah", "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "small"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "medium"} "image": {"#text":"URLHERE","size": "large"} } } } Any ideas how I can access the image urls of various different sizes. My attempts at accessing the #text variable don't seem to work because python doesn't appear to like #'s in the names. And any ideas how I can easily get the url for the depending on the size? • How to install older Android SDK in Eclipse

  I'm working at the moment at a simple app in eclipse for android. Just receiving and sending data, and using the camera API. I've set the minSDKversion to 8, because I think that has the widest user base. But at the beginning of the project eclipse was asking me which target SDK version I would use, and because I had just one installed (the latest 4.0.3) I've took this. Now I'm asking me if it wouldn't be wiser to install a lower SDK, like Android 2.2, because it would be not that big (compared to the 4.0.3) and my app would not have included all the fancy new features, which are not used in any way?! Or is this complete nonsense I'm talking here, and just should take my 4.0.3 SDK? When not, how can I install a lower version? Help -> SDK Manager is not showing old SDKs...

• Microsoft MyPhone - .NET access possible?

  I've searched this as much as I can in the time available, but haven't turned anything up. Does anyone know if it is possible to access data backed up from a WinMo device to Microsoft's MyPhone service programatically, without having to restore all the data back to the device? I'm looking at a way of also keeping a local backup of contacts and SMS messages on my desktop machine, but it seems that if there is an API for doing so, Microsoft haven't advertised it at all. I'm hoping that my inability to find any reference on Google is due to my incompetence rather than it not being supported by Microsoft.

• Beginner, learning as I go - how to get C#/SQLite db set up and ready for testing?

  I've messed with Access a little bit in the past, had one class on OO theory, and one class on console c++ apps. Now, as a hobby project, I'm undertaking to write an actual app, which will be a database app using System.Data.SQLite and C#. I have the db's table structure planned. I have System.Data.SQLite installed and connected to VS Pro. I entered my tables and columns in VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I really don't know how to finish the db set up so I can start creating queries and testing the db structure. Can someone give me guidance to online resources that will help me learn how to get the db properly set up so I can proceed with testing it? I'm hoping for online resources specific to beginners using C# and System.Data.SQLite, but I'll use the closest I can get. Thanks.

I found this which turned out to be invaluable for me http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/d334017d72909c79 but I can't figure out how I was supposed to know how to do that, had I not found that post. I know that the api reference has xml attributes listed for many of the classes... but what about xml tags? Where is it documented that I could build a shape using , , tags? I'd really like to know where I can find such documentation.

I looked up on this over the Internet and found that i have to write a web service to expose the data from SQL server using ASP.NET. I did an app previously in android that would take data from my dropbox a/c and display it to the user. I made use of the drop-box api available. I was wondering if anything like that exists for SQL? I've search a lot with no luck. My idea is to preview zip files from the dropbox using its API but i dont want to save the files to a local drive, just preview the content. Any idea if that's possible with php? • Facebook page linking to external site sign-up process, capture permission to write to wall in process?

  Hi all, Have had a good hunt through the archive but can't find anyone trying to do this... hope someone familiar with the facebook API can confirm if it's possible? Basically I have a client who wants to replicate their membership sign up process in a tab on their facebook page. The form would still submit to their own website to process, we'd just be replicating the form fields. As an additional requirement they want to capture peoples facebook user ID and get permission to post back to a users wall at the same time... The idea being that once the user is a member we can post back to their wall so their friends see that they've signed up... Basically after a sanity check that: 1) these things are possible to do; 2) the best method to build the form in a FB page - I'm guessing using JS to create all fields & ajax to submit to the external site?
