  • Is it possible to make this Flex/Flash application safe?

    I'm back with another Flex/Flash security question. I've already received some help from the community on this topic, but I'm still not quite sure this is the best way to do. Here's the thing. A flex web app, a lot of users (1000+), custom configuration of the application depending of the user group. Can I make this thing safe... or safer. For the moment, when a user comes to the application, there is only one configuration possible, but for the next version we've implented a multi-configuration protocol, this way : 1. The user connect to Default.aspx, server code process the windows credentials (whe are on intranet) and give the correct xml configuration file. 2. The flex app loads with the xml conf file as a flashvar and then the app 'builds' itself with the content of the xml file. As we know, since this is a flex application the swf is downloaded on the client computer and the xml file too. If more than one user connects to the app, from the same computer, the can possibly see the other xml file in the windows temp folder. The current directory of the application looks that way : Web site |-> default.aspx |-> index.swf |-> configAdmin.xml |-> configUserType1.xml |-> configUserType2.xml |-> com |-> a lot of swf and xml files I was first thinking making another directory (without read access for the client) containing all the configurations xml files, picking the right one, copying it to the client and deleting it afterwards. But it seems like I must let know the user know when downloading/deleting content on it's computer... I'm running out of ideas, so I hope you have some great ones. It's there are some design flaws (in the way the app is build, not in Flash :p) please share. I'm always looking forward to improve. Thanks Update : In browser Flash/Flex (without AIR that is) doesn't allow deleting file localy silently (on the client computer, where the application is). It's also not yet possible to get session data.

  • Seems doctrine listener is not fired

    Got a service which should be executed the moment an object is persisted. Though, I think the code looks like it should work, it doesn't. place though. At another part of the code the lister seems to be invoked. Though, there are both Controller types and both us $em->persist($something); $em->flush(); to save the changes. I would expect that in both cases the listener is invoked.

    We have WAS 6.0 (I know) .2.43 ND running in multiple regions. Our Dev-B region runs fine, but Dev-C throws a java exception when we make web-calls (at least this is what the developer tells me)...Same code in both regions and I checked the obvious suspects (Global security, SSL ciphers etc) and they all seem to match.   • Why isnt sql management studio integrated in visual studio?

    I have both SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 installed and think it would be really nice to have SQL Management Studio integrated directly within Visual Studio. Is there a way to make that happen? What about in VS 2010 with SQL Server 2008? I find the Visual Studio Server Explorer window to be much slower too than the Object Browser in SQL Server's Management Studio... it would be nice to never really need to use the Server Explorer.

    I have a string which contains 3 elements: a 3 digit code (example: SIN, ABD, SMS, etc) a 1 digit code type (example: 1, 2, 3, etc) a 3 digit number (example: 500, 123, 345) Example string: SIN1500, ABD2123, SMS3345, etc.. I wanted to generate a UNIQUE 10 digit alphanumeric and case sensitive string (only 0-9/a-z/A-Z is allowed), with more than 2^30 (about 1 billion) unique combination per string supplied. The generated code must have a particular algorithm so that I can reverse the process.     I'm trying to follow the Ubuntu OpenCV documentation at OpenCV. The provided script has a line which executed for some time, taking away more packages than I expected (such as ubuntu-studio video); sudo apt-get -qq remove ffmpeg x264 libx264-dev When the script gets to the line below, it bombs; sudo apt-get -qq install libopencv-dev build-essential checkinstall cmake pkg-config yasm libtiff4-dev libjpeg-dev libjasper-dev libavcodec-dev libavformat-dev libswscale-dev libdc1394-22-dev libxine-dev libgstreamer0.10-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev libv4l-dev python-dev python-numpy libtbb-dev libqt4-dev libgtk2.0-dev libfaac-dev libmp3lame-dev libopencore-amrnb-dev libopencore-amrwb-dev libtheora-dev libvorbis-dev libxvidcore-dev x264 v4l-utils ffmpeg The error msg is; E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I've since run Update-Manager, run sudo apt-get updates, rebooted, tried the above script line manually, and still no change. I've just run sudo apt-get install -f and nothing seemed to change. It did mention that some packages were no longer needed and could be removed by apt-get autoremove, so I ran that. It removed a number of packages, so I reran the install command above. Still same problem of held broken packages. I just ran sudo apt-get -u dist-upgrade Part of the response was; The following packages have been kept back: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg I'm not sure what that means. I do know that it shows up in my Update-Manager and cannot be checked I then ran sudo dpkg --configure -a and then reran sudo apt-get -f install and the package was still not upgraded, though there was this very interesting comment; Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.     The example used in the question pass bare minimum data to a function touches on the best way to determine whether the user is an administrator or not. One common answer was: user.isAdmin() This prompted a comment which was repeated several times and up-voted many times: A user shouldn't decide whether it is an Admin or not. The Privileges or Security system should. Something being tightly coupled to a class doesn't mean it is a good idea to make it part of that class. I replied, The user isn't deciding anything. The User object/table stores data about each user. Actual users don't get to change everything about themselves. But this was not productive. Clearly there is an underlying difference of perspective which is making communication difficult. Can someone explain to me why user.isAdmin() is bad, and paint a brief sketch of what it looks like done "right"? Really, I fail to see the advantage of separating security from the system that it protects. Any security text will say that security needs to be designed into a system from the beginning and considered at every stage of development, deployment, maintenance, and even end-of-life. It is not something that can be bolted on the side. But 17 up-votes so far on this comment says that I'm missing something important.

  • Why does IE prompt a security warning when viewing an XML file?

    Opening an XML file in Internet explorer gives a security warning. IE has a nice collapsible tree view for viewing XML, but it's disabled by default and you get this scary error message about a potential security hole. http://www.leonmeijer.nl/archive/2008/04/27/106.aspx But why? How can simply viewing an XML file (not running any embedded macros in it or anything) possibly be a security hole? Sure, I get that running XSLT could potentially do some bad stuff, but we're not talking about executing anything. We're talking about viewing. Why can't IE simply display the XML file as text (plus with the collapsible tree viewer)? So why did they label this as a security hole? Can someone describe how simply viewing an XML document could be used as an attack document?

    I am having a frustrating time trying to do something with Perl that would take a couple of lines of code in C#, namely to call a web service on a Windows server that requires Integrated Windows Authentication. The most likely candidate I've found for success is a module called LWP::Authen::Ntlm, but all the examples I've googled require you to explicitly supply username, password and domain. I don't want to do that - I just want the request to use the credentials of the currently logged in user, a la CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials in .NET. Have any of you Perl gurus out there ever had to do this? Thanks.

With WPA-Security on only the macs can connect to the wifi. I've reset the Netgear router, done everything again from scratch, no deal. The PCs just can't connect.

  • Are EC2 security group changes effective immediately for running instances?

    I have an EC2 instance running, and it belongs to a security group. If I add a new allowed connection to that security group through AWS Management Console, should that change be effective immediately? Or perhaps only after restart of the instance? In my case, I'm trying to allow access to PostgreSQL's default port (tcp 5432 5432 0.0.0.0/0), and I'm not sure if it's the EC2 firewall or PostgreSQL's settings that are refusing the connection.
