  • Python text file processing speed issues

    Hi all, I'm having a problem with processing a largeish file in Python. All I'm doing is f = gzip.open(pathToLog, 'r') for line in f: counter = counter + 1 if (counter % 1000000 == 0): print counter f.close This takes around 10m25s just to open the file, read the lines and increment this counter. In perl, dealing with the same file and doing quite a bit more (some regular expression stuff), the whole process takes around 1m17s. I've tried just uncompressing the file and dealing with it using open instead of gzip.open, but that made a very small difference to the overall time.

  • JQuyer slide and stop issues: animated element freezes with quick mouse movement

    Here is Zi JsFiddle. In order to replicate my issue you have to hover over the link that says 'javascript', then mouseout that, then mouseback in. If you do this before the animation is complete, the pink slidedown #subMenu will freeze midway through sliding. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I have tried some .stop()s , but i really don't want the animation to re-start every time you mouseenter or leave the .navLink . The animation should begin from where it left off. In other words, if the pink section is halfway down, and a slideDown() gets executed, the pink should not dissappear and then slide down, it should slide down from where it is. Thanks!!     I am tuning the performance of parallel Java programs. And want to check the impacts from the Architecture. I'm look into the Intel 10-core CPU, Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7-L8867. I found my program only scales up to 5 cores. What could be the causes? I'm considering the Architecture effects. e.g. memory contention? More specifically, Are the 10 cores symmetric to each other? How many memory controllers does it have?

This is the code to make it fading out: $('#block-block-1').mouseout(function() { $(this).css("display","none"); }); The issue here is that the 'mouseout' event is triggered when the mouse is over the children elements inside my div. And the parent disappears even if the mouse is still inside it.

  • Issues with simple jQuery image gallery with Colorbox plugin

    I'm putting together an image gallery for an ecommerce site and wanting to use colorbox to launch larger images. My problem is that image launched in colorbox stays as the first one launched and should reflect the image shown as img#bigpic - the link to the image does appear to be updating correctly.     Hi All, I want to install gettext but i cannot because my AIX says that gettext is dependent on glib and when i try to install glib it says that I cannot because glib is in turn dependent on gettext.     I'm currently following the openglbook.com tutorials (set up) (Tutorial) and have run into an issue fairly early on. I'm getting the following two errors: 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__glewGetErrorString@4 referenced in function _Initialize 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__glewInit@0 referenced in function _Initialize I have downloaded and compiled freeglut 2.8.0 as well as the glew 1.9.0 binaries. I have copied the libs and includes to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Lib and Include respectively. The Lib and Include paths have also been added to my project properties under Additional Library/Include directories. I have also defined glew32.lib and freeglut.lib in my linker-Input-Additional dependencies. I have included and at the top of my main file. What am I missing? Every other thread I've found has been solved by adding the directories to the project properties. Does anyone have any ideas?

    I am trying to switch my space invaders game to a first person view, i.e. a view of the world from the ship. I am getting a bit confused about what point I should be looking at. I am currently using these parameters in gluLookAt: GL11.glMatrixMode(GL11.GL_MODELVIEW); GL11.glLoadIdentity(); GLU.gluLookAt(ship3dPos.x, ship3dPos.y, ship3dPos.z,400.0f, 600.0f,-50.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f,-0.0f); Where ship3dPos is a Vector3f. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to set parameters 4,5 and 6 to, to get a view of the whole world(window is 800/600). I want to have a view of say 100.0 wide from the ships perspective, with this view moving along the x-axis as the player moves the ship. Thanks

I've created my menu, but I'm having trouble adding it to wordpress. I opened up the header.php file since I want it to appear below the banner, and I paste it in it's own div, but it always "pushes" everything below it to the right. How do I stop it from doing this?   • sys.path() and PYTHONPATH issues

    I've been learning Python, I'm working in 2.7.3, and I'm trying to understand import statements. The documentation says that when you attempt to import a module, the interpreter will first search for one of the built-in modules. What is meant by a built-in module? Then, the documentation says that the interpreter searches in the directories listed by sys.path, and that sys.path is initialized from these sources: the directory containing the input script (or the current directory). PYTHONPATH (a list of directory names, with the same syntax as the shell variable PATH). the installation-dependent default. Here is a sample output of a sys.path command from my computer using python in command-line mode: (I deleted a few so that it wouldn't be huge) ['', '/usr/lib/python2.7', '/usr/lib/python2.7/lib-old', '/usr/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/PIL', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gst-0.10', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtk-2.0', '/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ubuntuone-couch', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ubuntuone-storage-protocol'] Now, I'm assuming that the '' path refers to the directory containing the 'script', and so I figured the rest of them would be coming from my PYTHONPATH environmental variable. However, when I go to the terminal and type env, PYTHONPATH doesn't exist as an environmental variable. I also tried import os then os.environ, but I get the same output. Do I really not have a PYTHONPATH environmental variable? I don't believe I ever specifically defined a PYTHONPATH environmental variable, but I assumed that when I installed new packages they automatically altered that environment variable. If I don't have a PYTHONPATH, how is my sys.path getting populated? If I download new packages, how does Python know where to look for them if I don't have this PYTHONPATH variable? How do environment variables work? From what I understand, environment variables are specific to the process for which they are set, however, if I open multiple terminal windows and run env, they all display a number of identical variables, for example, PATH. I know there file locations for persistent environment variables, for example /etc/environment, which contains my PATH variable. Is it possible to tell where a persistent environment variable is stored? What is the recommended location for storing new persistent environment variables? How do environment variables actually work with say, the Python interpreter? The Python interpreter looks for PYTHONPATH, but how does it work at the nitty-gritty level?

    Hi, I'm trying to modify my wordpress theme (inove) to display all comments in the same page instead of 50 comments per page. I opened the comments.php file, commented out calls to paginate_comments_links() and and set the wp_list_comments() as follows: wp_list_comments('type=comment&callback=custom_comments&per_page=100&page=1'); The problem is, whenever someone posts a comments, the comment form appends '/comment-page-2/' to the URL after submitting the comment, even though I've specified that all comments to be displayed on the same page. Any idea what I could be missing? Appreciate your help

    Hello, I have setup an SVN repository for use with Apache 2 via svnadmin create command and appropriate vhost configuration. I found that, in order to correctly use the repository, this must be owned by wwwrun user (or www group) or chmodded to 777. I would like to ask if it's possible to explicitly tell Apache to impersonate another user when serving requests to a certain path (from vhost.conf), like with suphp extension, so I won't mess with permissions once I create a repository.   • IE issues with drag/drop (script.aculo.us)

    I have a page with a left and a right div. Inside each of these there are several divs. I can drag&drop them inside the left/right divs or move from one to the other So the page is something like ........ ........ ........ ........ I am using scriptaculous and prototype for the drag&drop If I drag in Firefox things work fine. In IE6-IE8 however I have 2 problems: 1) When I drag from left to right or the other way around, the inner divs do not keep their relative distances: the div I moved now overlaps with the div on the opposite side (if I do a reload of the page the divs are set correctly again) 2) If I shrink the window width below a certain width the divs either on the left or the right droppable disappear. Any ideas? deb

    Is this a known issue? I had trouble finding any search results. When iterating over a ServiceLoader while an iteration already is in progress, the first iteration will be aborted. For example, assuming there are at least two implementations of Foo, the following code will fail with an AssertionError: ServiceLoader<Foo> loader = ServiceLoader.load(Foo.class); Iterator<Foo> iter1 = loader.iterator(); iter1.next(); Iterator<Foo> iter2 = loader.iterator(); while (iter2.hasNext()) { iter2.next(); } assert iter1.hasNext(); This only seems to occur, if the second iterator really terminates. The code will succeed in this variation for example: ServiceLoader<Foo> loader = ServiceLoader.load(Foo.class); Iterator<Foo> iter1 = loader.iterator(); iter1.next(); Iterator<Foo> iter2 = loader.iterator(); iter2.next(); assert iter1.hasNext(); Is this a bug or a feature? :p Is there a ticket for this already anywhere?

    I'm still entangled in error handling problems. After having read and tried lots of different scripts, I still do not have an overall insight on the problem. I made a syntax error on purpose and get the following error message : Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '{' in /home/directory/public_html/mypage.php on line 10 To understand how it work, as a first step, I'd like to remove this message(which I'am able to do) and replace it by a custom one.
