• Help me to choose the right platform for my Portal from .net, php, php based cms and .net based cms

  hi I am planning to develop a site very similar to http://www.nextdaypets.com/ but with some more features...i have worked on JOOMLA n i know it pretty well. but there are few limitation like access level control and there is no component available for what i need. what i m confused about is that whether i should make that component in joomla or should i develop my own cms or should i take some .net based cms and write the component for it. I know C# and .net framework as a beginner. I just completed a certification course in .net last month and i don't know php but don't have issue in learning it...so what should i do...please suggest.

• Android Loading & Playing Sound Based on String

  I'm currently working on a simple Android app, and right now I am trying to get it to load in and play sounds. The problem I am faced with is that I want the sound it uses to be based on a string (With the same name as the sound file). The reason for this is simplicity in both the code and adding on to it. Now unfortunately I can't just slap a string in place of referencing the actual sound, but is there some way for me to compare a string to the entire raw folder to find the matching sound, or some other alternative short of defining every sound manually?   Hi, i'm currently programming a board game (8x8) in which I need to develop an AI. I have read a lot of articles about AI in board games, minmax with or without alphabeta pruning, but I don't really know how to implements this, I don't know where to start... About my game, this is a turn-based game, each player has pieces on the board, they have to pick one and choose in moving this piece (1 or 2 cells max) or clone the piece (1 cell max). At the moment, I have a really stupid AI which choose a random piece then choose a random move to play... Could you please give me some clues, on how to implement this functionality ? Best regards

  I found this question somewhat on the topic, but is there a way [in emacs] to set a minor mode (or a list thereof) based on extension? For example, it's pretty easy to find out that major modes can be manipulated like so (setq auto-mode-alist (cons '("\\.notes$" . text-mode) auto-mode-alist)) and what I'd ideally like to be able to do is (setq auto-minor-mode-alist (cons '("\\.notes$" . auto-fill-mode) auto-minor-mode-alist)) The accept answer of the linked question mentions hooks, specifically temp-buffer-setup-hook. To use this, you have to add a function to the hook like so (add-hook 'temp-buffer-setup-hook 'my-func-to-set-minor-mode) My question is two-fold: Is there an easier way to do this, similar to major modes? If not, how would one write the function for the hook? It needs to check the file path against a regular expression. If it matches, activate the desired mode (e.g. auto-fill-mode).

• JAAS : on Callback ( Interesting based on HTTP headers )

  I am using NameCallback and PasswordCallback for username and password.For username and password, popup comes on browser and when i enter username ans password, JAAS authenticates my request. On the wireshark, I have seen that 401 Unauthorized message (WWW-Authenticate header)comes and when i enter username/password HTTP request with credentials generate ( with Authorization header) and goes to server. My requirement : I don't want pop up to come.My application on other server having username / password, so once it received 401 then based on some logic it will generate HTTP request with Authorization header / credentials and sent it back. FLow : User - Other Server - My Tomcat5.5 Here on Other Server, nobody is available to enter username/password manually.Application is deployed and it will only generate HTTP request with credential and sent it back to tomcat. Can we have any other callback which behave like this.Need your help.Please provide me feedback as well related to approach.

  So iow, some algorithm to generate a unique, reasonable length filename based on binary file content. Two files that have the same binary content should have the same name. Obviously there would be limits to this, as presumably you couldn't have unique reasonable length filenames for each of a large set of large files only differing at a handful of bit positions. But presumably there is some heuristic, best approximation to this that for example exploits known attributes of typical image files. If I had the name of some algorithm that does this I can google it and find other approaches as well.

  I have a page, lets call it SourceTypes.aspx, that has a a GridView that is displaying a list of Source Types. Part of the GridView is a DataKey, SourceTypeID. If source TypeID is passed to the page via a query sting, how to I put the Gridview into Edit mode for the appropriate row based on the SourceTypeID? The GridView is bound to a SQlDataSource object. I have a feeling I am going to kick myself when the answer appears!! I have looked at Putting a gridview row in edit mode programmatically but it is some what lacking in specifics

  Been searching for an answer to this for the better part of an hour without much luck. I have two regional tables laid out with the same column names and I can put out a result list for either table based on the following query (swap Table2 for Table1): SELECT Table1.YEAR, FORMAT(COUNT(Table1.id),0) AS Total FROM Table1 WHERE Table1.variable='Y' GROUP BY Table1.YEAR Ideally I'd like to get a result that gives me a total sum of the counts by year, so instead of: | REGION 1 | | REGION 2 | | YEAR | Total | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 5 | | 2010 | 1 | | 2009 | 2 | | 2009 | 3 | | | | | 2008 | 4 | I'd have: | MERGED | | YEAR | Total | | 2010 | 6 | | 2009 | 5 | | 2008 | 4 | I've tried a variety of JOINs and other ideas but I think I'm caught up on the SUM and COUNT issue.   I have a list of objects ("Move"'s in this case) that I want to sort based on their calculated evaluation. So, I have the List, and a bunch of numbers that are "associated" with an element in the list. I now want to sort the List elements with the first element having the lowest associated number, and the last having the highest. Once the items are order I can discard the associated number. How do I do this? • Help needed implementing a web based file management system with a file hierarchy system, help neede

  Hello i am trying to create a web application that will allow users to upload files online, i am using gwt while using hibernate for database communication, i am able to upload file to a server , and store them on the server. but what i want is to associate the files with a user. i want the user to be able to create folders and store a file in sub folders. my logic was to use the composite pattern to store folders and fileLocations with a user but i am am finding it difficult to implement this so i can show the files and folders within a gwt tree. what would be the best way to implement a hierarchy of folders and information of the location of a file so it could be displayed in a gwt tree? what i did have was a User would hold a reference to a root folder and then each sub folder could hold folders or fileLocations. i used the composite pattern to implement the file hierarchy, but when i want to display a the contents of a folder i need a for loop for each list. so i could a folder within a folder within a folder that would need 3 for loops to show the contents of my folders. What is the best way to implement this file management system. so what do you guys think?

In first scenario I am getting myObj(allocated) from other file so I have to release in my own method. (as per any C/C++ language library ,like strdup will return string duplicate which will realase later by developer not by strdup method). In second scenario I am getting myObj(allocated) from otherObj.m file so otherObj.m file is responsible to release that allocated memory(mean autorelease)? Is it right? Please let me know Which scenario is more efficient and valid as per apple memory guidelines. Please Please don't show me any document link. Thanks Manu

• Prerequisites for Account management via an IPhone App?

  Hello. I have been reading a couple of threads for this topic on this site. I want to create an App, which communicates with a server and has the following features: the User can create/manage an account on the server the App communicates with the server via a secure connection the User is updated about important news through messages From what I understood so far, I need to take care of the following: establish a secure connection with the server send account information(user data, password) to the server and authenticate the client side management and encryption of account data/information is handled by the server, so the App only sends data, the server stores/encrypts (no need for me to take care of anything) So far, I think, I have covered the most important features. I have read, that NSURLConnection can be used, to send the authentication data. But how is further communication ensured? And how is the encryption managed? Are there any useful tutorials on this, because this is the first time I delve into this topic, and any guidance is greatly appreciated! Also, if I have missed anything important (e.g. with managing accounts) please tell me.

  How do software houses like Microsoft or anti-virus companies patch/update their software? Anti virus companies dont send the complete executable; only new virus signatures I suppose. Similarly, Ive noticed microsoft sends certain files to the '$NtUninstallKB......$' folder that it creates when it the windows update program runs. I suppose there is an installer in each such folder there that replaces only those dlls that need to be updated or fixed. Questions Is there a universal method for doing this or does each house employ their own methods? I dont want to re-send the entire application to each individual client. Suppose if only certain dlls need to be changed or maybe some more added, how should I go about planning my final compiled application. Do I need to look at separating my application into multiple assemblies? If yes, then is there some compilation method that is allows to pack specific classes into a particular dll? What I have put down here are my thoughts on the subject and I could be wrong. Could anyone throw some light on this please? I am looking at implementing such a deployment and patch management technique for the .net platform. Thanks for your time.
