  • Rolling back database changes

    - by justin
    Hi, I work in team which uses Work flow management tool. I was presented with a challenge where the user should be able to roll back the changes made anytime during the flow to a certain point in the past. Surely the toll can handle it but the additional database calls that may have made during these activities have to be manually rolled back. the challenge is that there are multiple parallel paths and there different permutations of external database calls. So is there a frame work or a way to keep track of these DB calls and rollback them?. thank you, Justin

  • ASP.net MVC DropLownList db.SaveChanges not saving selection

    - by WMIF
    I have looked through a ton of tutorials and suggestions on how to work with DropDownList in MVC. I was able to get most of it working, but the selected item is not saving into the database. I am using MVC 3 and Razor for the view. My DropDownList is getting created with the correct values and good looking HTML. When I set a breakpoint, I can see the correct selected item ID in the model getting sent to controller. When the view goes back to the index, the DropDownList value is not set. The other values save just fine. Here are the related views. The DropDownList is displaying a list of ColorModel names as text with the ID as the value. public class ItemModel { [Key] public int ItemID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public virtual ColorModel Color { get; set; } } public class ItemEditViewModel { public int ItemID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public int ColorID { get; set; } public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> Colors { get; set; } } public class ColorModel { [Key] public int ColorID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public virtual IList<ItemModel> Items { get; set; } } Here are the controller actions. public ActionResult Edit(int id) { ItemModel itemmodel = db.Items.Find(id); ItemEditViewModel itemEditModel; itemEditModel = new ItemEditViewModel(); itemEditModel.ItemID = itemmodel.ItemID; if (itemmodel.Color != null) { itemEditModel.ColorID = itemmodel.Color.ColorID; } itemEditModel.Description = itemmodel.Description; itemEditModel.Name = itemmodel.Name; itemEditModel.Colors = db.Colors .ToList() .Select(x => new SelectListItem { Text = x.Name, Value = x.ColorID.ToString() }); return View(itemEditModel); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(ItemEditViewModel itemEditModel) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { ItemModel itemmodel; itemmodel = new ItemModel(); itemmodel.ItemID = itemEditModel.ItemID; itemmodel.Color = db.Colors.Find(itemEditModel.ColorID); itemmodel.Description = itemEditModel.Description; itemmodel.Name = itemEditModel.Name; db.Entry(itemmodel).State = EntityState.Modified; db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } return View(itemEditModel); } The view has this for the DropDownList, and the others are just EditorFor(). @Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.ColorID, Model.Colors, "Select a Color") When I set the breakpoint on the db.Color.Find(...) line, I show this in the Locals window for itemmodel.Color: {System.Data.Entity.DynamicProxies.ColorModel_0EB80C07207CA5D88E1A745B3B1293D3142FE2E644A1A5202B90E5D2DAF7C2BB} When I expand that line, I can see the ColorID that I chose from the dropdown box, but it does not save into the database.

  • Generate EF4 POCO classes first time only

    - by Jaxidian
    The problem I'm having is, using the POCO templates, generating my POCO classes the first time only and not overwriting them when the templates are re-ran. I know this sounds hokey and the reason is that I'm actually changing these templates and trying to generate metadata classes rather than the actual POCO classes, but these metadata classes will be hand-edited and I want to keep those edits in the future but still regenerate a certain amount of it. I have it all working exactly as I want except for the regeneration of the files. I have looked into T4 and it seems that there is a flag to do just this (see the Output.PreserveExistingFile property) but I don't understand where/how to set this flag. If you can tell me where/how to set this in the default POCO templates, then I think that's all I really need. Thanks!! :-)

  • Saving Abstract and Sub classes to database

    - by bretddog
    Hi, I have an abstract class "StrategyBase", and a set of sub classes, StrategyA/B/C etc. The sub classes use some of the properties of the base class, and have some individual properties. My question is how to save this to a database. I'm currently using SqlCE, and Linq-To-Sql by creating entity classes automatically with SqlMetal.exe. I've seen there are three solutions shown in this question, but I'm not able to see how these solutions will work or not with SqlMetal/entity classes. Though it seems to me the "concrete table inheritance" would probably work without any manual modifying. What about the other two, would they be problematic? For "Single Table Inheritance" wouldn't all classes get all variables, even though they don't need them? And for the "Class table inheritance" solution I can't really see at all how that will map into the entity-classes for a useful purpose. I may note that I extend these partial entity classes for making the classes of my business objects. I may also consider moving to EntityFramework instead of SqlMetal/Linq2Sql, so would be nice also to know if that makes any difference to what schema is easy to implement. One likely important thing to note is that I will constantly be develop new strategies, which makes me have to modify the program code, and probably the database shcema; when adding a new strategy. Sorry the question is a bit "all over the place", but hopefully it's some clear advantages/disadvantages here that you may be able to advice. ? Cheers!

  • Zend_Cache save from command line and access from browser

    - by Krishna Sunuwar
    May be I am this is super-easy but I couldnt' figure out way. I have script running in command line which save cache using Zend_Cache $frontendOptions = array( 'lifetime' => NULL, 'automatic_serialization' => true ); $backendOptions = array( 'cache_dir' => "/home/tmp/cache" ); $cache = Zend_Cache::factory('Core', 'File', $frontendOptions, $backendOptions); $vars = Array("id1" => "12121", "id2" => "2232"); $cache->save($vars, "p_11"); I can access saved cache from command line: $cache->load("p_11"); In above both case, I have app.php file that run in command line using php-cli. Now, I want to access p_11 cache using browser something like http://mytestserve.lan/test_cache.php I have create object with cache factory like above. All the parameters are same as above. However when I try to load cache p_11, i do not variables set from command line. What went wrong?

  • NullReferenceException in EntityFramework, how come?

    - by Mickel
    Take a look at this query: var user = GetUser(userId); var sessionInvites = ctx.SessionInvites .Include("InvitingUser") .Include("InvitedUser") .Where(e => e.InvitedUser.UserId == user.UserId) .ToList(); var invites = sessionInvites; // Commenting out the two lines below, and it works as expected. foreach (var invite in sessionInvites) ctx.DeleteObject(invite); ctx.SaveChanges(); return invites; Now, everything here executes without any errors. The invites that exists for the user are being deleted and the invites are being returned with success. However, when I then try to navigate to either InvitingUser or InvitedUser on any of the returned invites, I get NullReferenceException. All other properties of the SessionIvites returned, works fine. How come? [EDIT] Now the weird thing is, if I comment out the lines with delete it works as expected. (Except that the entities will not get deleted :S)

  • Zend Navigation add extra id

    - by lander
    I made a menu with zend_navigation, using an ini file. That work well. If I look at the code, i see that zend has added a class, to the ul element. With a name that i use in my ini file. But now I want to add also a id to the ul element. How can I do this? protected function _initNavigation() { $this->bootstrap('layout'); $layout = $this->getResource('layout'); $view = $layout->getView(); $iniOptions = array('allowModifications' => true); $config = new Zend_Config_Ini(APPLICATION_PATH . '/configs/navigation.ini', 'nav', $iniOptions); $config->id = 1; $navigation = new Zend_Navigation($config->navigation); $view->navigation($navigation); }

  • CryptographicException: Unknown Error '80007005'. when calling RSACryptoServiceProvider.Decrypt() in

    - by zensunnit
    Hello, I am trying to use the RSACryptoServiceProvider to encrypt/decrypt. Encrypting works fine, but the Decrypt method() throws an exception with the message: Unknown Error '80007005'. This is the code: Byte[] plainData = encoding.GetBytes(plainText); Byte[] encryptedData; RSAParameters rsap1; Byte[] decryptedData; using (RSACryptoServiceProvider rsa1 = new RSACryptoServiceProvider()) { encryptedData = rsa1.Encrypt(plainData, false); rsap1 = rsa1.ExportParameters(false); } using (RSACryptoServiceProvider rsa2 = new RSACryptoServiceProvider()) { rsa2.ImportParameters(rsap1); decryptedData = rsa2.Decrypt(encryptedData, false); } decryptedText = encoding.GetString(decryptedData, 0, decryptedData.Length); Is anyone aware of a workaround? Thanks!

  • Generic data input form in asp.net mvc application

    - by Diego
    Hello, I have an application that have EF 16 classes that share this information: They all are classes only with a key field and a description. I think it should be a waste if I make a controller with just 1 method just to present a form to fill these classes info, then I was thinking in to make a generic form(with key, description) and dynamically fill the right class through a sort of selection the selected info in any way, any good suggestion or pattern to do that? Where the generic methods should be located.

  • Is it possible to use separete ssdl, csdl and msl files for each Entity?

    - by JMSA
    Is it possible to use separete ssdl, csdl and msl files for each Entity in EntityFramework? That is, I want to modularize the mapping information. Note: EdmGen.exe tool stores the ssdl, csdl and msl information in respective files for all entities. Note: If anyone used NHibernate, he should be aware of the fact that, NHibernate uses separate mapping files for each entity. I want to do the same thing.

  • 'Contains()' workaround using Linq to Entities?

    - by jbloomer
    I'm trying to create a query which uses a list of ids in the where clause, using the Silverlight ADO.Net Data Services client api (and therefore Linq To Entities). Does anyone know of a workaround to Contains not being supported? I want to do something like this: List<long?> txnIds = new List<long?>(); // Fill list var q = from t in svc.OpenTransaction where txnIds.Contains(t.OpenTransactionId) select t;

  • How to update non-scalar entity properties in EF 4.0?

    - by Mike
    At first I was using this as an extension method to update my detached entities... Public Sub AttachUpdated(ByVal obj As ObjectContext, ByVal objectDetached As EntityObject) If objectDetached.EntityState = EntityState.Detached Then Dim original As Object = Nothing If obj.TryGetObjectByKey(objectDetached.EntityKey, original) Then obj.ApplyCurrentValues(objectDetached.EntityKey.EntitySetName, objectDetached) Else Throw New ObjectNotFoundException() End If End If End Sub Everything has been working great until I had to update non-scalar properties. Correct me if I am wrong but that is because "ApplyCurrentValues" only supports scalars. To get around this I was just saving the FK_ID field instead of the entity object relation. Now I am faced with a many to many relationship so its not that simple. I would like to do something like this... Dim Resource = RelatedResource.GetByID(item.Value) Condition.RelatedResources.Add(Resource) But when I call SaveChanges the added Resources aren't saved. I started to play around with self-tracking entities (not sure if they will help solve my prob) but it seems they cannot be serialized to ViewState and this is a requirement for me. I guess one solution would be to add the xRef table as an entity and add the fks myself but I would rather it just work how I expect it too. I am open to any suggestions on how to either save my many to many relationships or serialize self-tracking entities (if self-trackingwould even solve my problem). Thanks!

  • How do the size standard libraries compare for different languages

    - by Roman A. Taycher
    Someone was recently raving about how great jQuery was and how it made javascript into a pleasure and also how the whole source code was so small(and one file). I looked it up on www.ohloh.net/ and it said it was about 30,000 lines of javascript, when I tired curl piped to wc it said about 5000 lines(strange discrepancy that, maybe test suites, ect?). I thought well it isn't that strange since javascript from what I've heard has a lot of fun dynamic tricks, so you can probably get away with a small library. But then I thought what about other high level languages, the ones with large standard libraries and wondered how big the standard are for python/ruby/haskell/pharo(smalltalk)/*ml/ect. (libraries not vm stuff to the degree its possible to separate it) Anybody know? Any details (comment/blank/code lines , test code lines, lines in language vs lines in ffi/byte-code) are appreciated! edit: ps. since it started this me asking about jQuery as a bonus if you could please list the size of mega frameworks, a megaframewok provides so much that people using an x megaframework in language y might sometimes refer to programming in xy or even x rather then in y (ie. : qt, jQuery, etc.).

  • EF2: Is there a way to add an Entity to EntityCollection without having to load related Entity?

    - by mutex
    I can set an EntityReference on an entity without having to load the relevent entity as follows: this.CategoryReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.CategorySet", "Id", 12); So I can set the Category for the entity I'm dealing with to whatever category has id 12 without having to hit the database. But is there a way to do this or something similar on an EntityCollection? So if I now have multiple categories instead of just one, I want to now do something like the following, though it doesn't work: // stand-in category var categoryStandIn = new Category { EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.CategorySet", "Id", 12) } this.Categories.Add(categoryStandIn);

  • Zend_Cache_Backend_Sqlite vs Zend_Cache_Backend_File

    - by Alekc
    Hi, Currently i'm using Zend_Cache_Backend_File for caching my project (especially responses from external web services). I was wandering if I could find some benefit in migrating the structure to Zend_Cache_Backend_Sqlite. Possible advantages are: File system is well-ordered (only 1 file in cache folder) Removing expired entries should be quicker (my assumption, since zend wouldn't need to scan internal-metadatas for expiring date of each cache) Possible disadvantages: Finding record to read (with files zend check if file exists based on filename and should be a bit quicker) in term of speed. I've tried to search a bit in internet but it seems that there are not a lot of discussion about the matter. What do you think about it? Thanks in advance.

  • What is the best method for updating all changed data in EF 4?

    - by Soul_Master
    I try to create some method that can update any changed data from changed Data object (this object is generated by ASP.NET MVC) to old Data object (this object is retrieved from current data in DBMS) like the following code. public static bool UpdateSomeData(SomeEntities context, SomeModelType changedData) { var oldData = GetSomeModelTypeById(context, changedData.ID); UpdateModel(oldData, changedData); return context.SaveChanges() > 0; } I try to create method for saving any changed data without affects other unchanged data like the following source code. public static void UpdateModel<TModel>(TModel oldData, TModel changedData) { foreach (var pi in typeof(TModel).GetProperties() .Where ( // Ignore Change ID property for security reason x => x.Name.ToUpper() != "ID" && x.CanRead && x.CanWrite && ( // It must be primitive type or Guid x.PropertyType.FullName.StartsWith("System") && !x.PropertyType.FullName.StartsWith("System.Collection") && !x.PropertyType.FullName.StartsWith("System.Data.Entity.DynamicProxies") ) ) { var oldValue = pi.GetValue(oldData, null); var newValue = pi.GetValue(changedData, null); if (!oldValue.Equals(newValue)) { pi.SetValue(oldData, newValue, null); } } } I am not sure about the above method because it is so ugly method for updating data. From recent bug, it realizes me that if you update some property like Navigation Properties (related data from other table), it will remove current record from database. I don't understand why it happened. But it is very dangerous for me. So, do you have any idea for this question to ensure me about updating data from ASP.NET MVC? Thanks,

  • How to use the LINQ where expression?

    - by NullReference
    I'm implementing the service \ repository pattern in a new project. I've got a base interface that looks like this. Everything works great until I need to use the GetMany method. I'm just not sure how to pass a LINQ expression into the GetMany method. For example how would I simply sort a list of objects of type name? nameRepository.GetMany( ? ) public interface IRepository<T> where T : class { void Add(T entity); void Update(T entity); void Delete(T entity); void Delete(Expression<Func<T, bool>> where); T GetById(long Id); T GetById(string Id); T Get(Expression<Func<T, bool>> where); IEnumerable<T> GetAll(); IEnumerable<T> GetMany(Expression<Func<T, bool>> where); } public virtual IEnumerable<T> GetMany(Expression<Func<T, bool>> where) { return dbset.Where(where).ToList(); }

  • Google Spreadsheet API problem: memory exceeded

    - by Robbert
    Hi guys, Don't know if anyone has experience with the Google Spreadsheets API or the Zend_GData classes but it's worth a go: When I try to insert a value in a 750 row spreadsheet, it takes ages and then throws an error that my memory limit (which is 128 MB!) was exceeded. I also got this when querying all records of this spreadsheet but this I can imaging because it's quite a lot of data. But why does this happen when inserting a row? That's not too complex, is it? Here's the code I used: public function insertIntoSpreadsheet($username, $password, $spreadSheetId, $data = array()) { $service = Zend_Gdata_Spreadsheets::AUTH_SERVICE_NAME; $client = Zend_Gdata_ClientLogin::getHttpClient($username, $password, $service); $client->setConfig(array( 'timeout' => 240 )); $service = new Zend_Gdata_Spreadsheets($client); if (count($data) == 0) { die("No valid data"); } try { $newEntry = $service->insertRow($data, $spreadSheetId); return true; } catch (Exception $e) { return false; } }
