• Wrong file encoding after Dist::Zilla

  How can I get mojibake to pass? this might be a bug in the contributors plugin. I run the sp_LockReader at same time in two diferent query windows and the second one starts showing test table contents without the first one terminates. Shouldn't serializeble level forces the second query to wait? How do i get the described behaviour? Thanks

• Reintegrate a branch with externals fails in SVN

  What I am doing: Apply external properties to a folder in the trunk (both single file and folder external, externals are binary files) Create a branch from the trunk and update the entire project Modify a file on the branch and commit the changes, then update the entire project. Merge - "Reintegrate a branch" when I get to the last screen I click "test merge" and get this error: Error: Cannot reintegrate into mixed-revision working copy; try updating first I update the entire project and still the same error. Other observations: If I "Merge a range of revisions" everything works fine. If I remove the externals everything works fine using either "Merge a range of revisions" or "Reintegrate a branch". How do I solve this issue? I am using Subversion 1.6.6 with TortoiseSVN 1.6.6.

• Subversion: setting up a remote repository and running my site off it?

  Hi all. I'm new to SVN and have experimented with it locally on my Dreamhost test server (which has a Subversion "one-click-install" function). Having found my way around the functionality I'm definitely sold, but a little lost about using it to manage my work website (not hosted with Dreamhost, so not offering a one-click SVN installation). Am I correct in thinking that I can set up a repository on my website root (which contains all the files), and then when I develop new features and run a commit, this will update my site? Is this the proper workflow for this sort of thing? If so, is there a standard way to set this kind of thing up on my remote server? Thanks.

• Nested svn repositories

  I got a "Project A" in repository. But in that project I'm using a library, which is hosted on Google Code. There is my question: is there any way, to have that library files "hooked" to Google Code SVN, and simultaneously my project in my repo (it's parent to that library), so I can commit library files into my repository when I decide, that outer project revision is ok? I've tried to do checkout in the library folder, files were downloaded from Google's Code repository. But I that case wasn't able to add them to my repository - they weren't visible in "Add" window.

  I'm using ADO.Net's ExecuteNonQuery to call a stored procedure, works like a charm stand-alone but when implementing it where it should be called I'm running into problems concerning transactions. For example System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates a mismatching number of BEGIN and COMMIT statements. Previous count = 1, current count = 0. and also a timeout right after that. I've just found out the method which calls the stored procedure is marked with the following WCF attribute: [OperationBehavior(TransactionScopeRequired = true, TransactionAutoComplete = true)] How will this influence the call my stored procedure? How can I tell .Net to execute the stored procedure outside this transaction? The stored procedure contains insert statements and also a transaction, but removing them doesn't change the behavior...

• Why doesn't my binding update whenever EditingElementStyle AND ElementStyle are set to a custom styl

  In my Visual Studio 2010 WPF application, I have the following (simplified) style: <Style x:Key="MyStyle" TargetType="{x:Type CheckBox}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Blue" /> </Style> If I use it as the ElementStyle AND EditingElementStyle in my DataGridCheckBoxColumn: <DataGridCheckBoxColumn Binding="{Binding IsEnabled}" ElementStyle="{StaticResource MyStyle}" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource MyStyle}" /> Then my binding, IsEnabled, does not toggle when I check/uncheck a row's checkbox. If I remove either ElementStyle, EditingElementStyle, or both, then the binding updates no problem. Why is this?! Note: sometimes clicking around will produce an update to the binding (detected via debugging) - this is not the same as clicking another row to "commit" the value, though! Thanks!

• Undo history broken in Eclipse?

  Is Eclipse's undo history broken? I have been using 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, and now 3.4 versions for the last few years and was always able to undo only about 20-25 changes back in history. This nonsense has cost me some lost modifications countless times when trying to revert some recent changes (if you reply with "you should commit to svn every 25 changes", I'm going to unleash dragons on you). There's a setting in Preferences-Editors-Text Editors-Undo history size and I set it to 1000 but it didn't help anything. I'm mostly using Eclipse with the Perl E.P.I.C. in the Perl Perspective, if it matters. So guys, what's the problem and how do I fix it?

• iphone: repeating a transformation

  Hi I'm trying to represent a view that rotates on the iphone screen. I have a button and when you press it, the view rotates 180 degrees. My problem is that this only works the first time.   I couldn't find a similar question here on SO, but if you find one please link. Is there any guideline or standard best practice how to version a software you develop in your spare time for fun, but nevertheless will be used by some people? I think it's necessary to version such software so that you know about with version one is talking about (e.g. for bug fixing, support, and so on). But where do I start the versioning? 0.0.0? or 0.0? And then how to I increment the numbers? major release.minor change? and should'nt any commit to a version control system be another version? or is this only for versions which are used in a productive manner?

• Issue with Visual C++ 2010 (Express) External Tools command

  I posted this on SuperUser...but I was hoping the pros here at SO might have a good idea about how to fix this as well.... Normally we develop in VS 2005 Pro, but I wanted to give VS 2010 a spin. We have custom build tools based off of GNU make tools that are called when creating an executable. This is the error that I see whenever I call my external tool: ...\gnu\make.exe): * couldn't commit memory for cygwin heap, Win32 error 487 The caveat is that it still works perfectly fine in VS2005, as well as being called straight from the command line. Also, my external tool is setup exactly the same as in VS 2005. Is there some setting somewhere that could cause this error to be thrown?

The way I have envisioned this working is by a naming convention for branches that regular developers cannot check code into. Following the SVN recomended directory structure this translates into something like. [project-name]/trunk/ [project-name]/branches/ [project-name]/branches/development-01 [project-name]/branches/development-02 [project-name]/branches/task-increasefontsize [project-name]/branches/release-01 [project-name]/branches/release-02 [project-name]/tags/ So in the authz file I would like to have something like the following [/] @developers = rw [/*/branches/release-*] @developers = r @senior_developers = rw However I can't find any evidence that SVN supports * (or any other wildcard character).   Hi, I'm working on customizing a couple of open source projects in ways that are very much personalized -- i.e., not appropriate to send the patches back to the maintainers for the public. One of them is stored in CVS, one in SVN. I use SVN for my own work. The CVS project is fine. I check the tree in to my svn repository, including the CVS directories. I can commit all my changes, and still do a cvs update to stay up to date with bug fixes/features of the public project. How should I work on the svn project?   We have some third party code wherein they do the following 1) Create a User Transaction e.g. txn = (UserTransaction)ctx.lookup( "UserTransaction" ); txn.begin( ); 2) Do some work persisting to the database (via JPA) to a MySQL database 3) txn.commit() They have Exception blocks but NONE of them call txn.rollback. Good coding practice says they NEED to call rollback if an exception occurs but my question is If the txn is not commited, and an exception occurs what is the negative effect of them NOT calling rollback?

• Renaming files: Visual Studio vs Version control

  The problem with renaming files is that if you want to take advantage of Visual Studio refactoring, you really need to do it from inside Visual Studio. But most (not all*) version control system also want to be the ones doing the renaming. One solution is to use integrated source control, but this is not always available, and in some cases is pretty clunky. I'd personally be more comfortable using source control separately, outside of Visual Studio, but I'm not sure how to manage this question of file renames. So, for those of you that use Visual Studio, which source control do you use? Do you use a VS integration (which one?) and otherwise, how do you resolve this renaming problem? (* git is smart enough to work it out for itself)

• Preview result of update/insert query without comitting changes to database in MySQL?

  I am writing a script to import CSV files into existing tables within my database. I decided to do the insert/update operations myself using PHP and INSERT/UPDATE statements, and not use MySQL's LOAD INFILE command, I have good reasons for this. What I would like to do is emulate the insert/update operations and display the results to the user, and then give them the option of confirming that this is OK, and then committing the changes to the database. I'm using InnoDB database engine with support for transactions. Not sure if this helps but was thinking down the line of insert/update, query data, display to user, then either commit or rollback transaction? Any advise would be appreciated.
