• Error 80073701 when installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1

  I tried to install the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 using Windows Update and I got an error (code 80073701 - unknown error). I tried it again, same thing. Rebooted and tried again, same error. Before I tried to install the SP1 I had installed all the previous updates. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bits. Has anyone gone through the same problem? Any ideas of what might be happening? Thanks! UPDATE: I installed the System Update Readiness Tool. Then, I tried to install the SP1 again, but the installation failed again with the same error. As I thought I was running out of options, I downloaded the SP1 package (500+ MB) and tried to install manually. Before that, I reinstalled the SUR Update. Well, the manual installation of the SP1 failed again. Then I learned about the c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file (thanks Patches!). I checked it out. As I installed the SUR Update multiple times, the older logs are kept in the c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log file. In the first time the SUR update was installed there was an error, which is said to have been fixed. In the subsequent logs, no errors were detected. • PHP `virtual()` with Apache MultiViews not working after upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04

  I use PHP's virtual() directive quite a lot on one of my sites, including central elements. This worked fine for the last ~10 years -- but after upgrading (or rather moving, as it is on a new machine) to Ubuntu 12.04 it somehow got broken. Example setup (simplified) To make it easier to understand, I simplify some things (contents). So say I need a HTML fragment like <P>For further instructions, please look <A HREF='foobar'>here</P> in multiple pages. 10 years ago, I used SSI for that, so it is put into a file in a central place -- so if e.g. the targeted URL changes, I only need to update it in one place. To serve multiple languages, I have Apache's MultiViews enabled -- and at $DOCUMENT_ROOT/central/ there are the files: foobar.html (English variant, and the default) foobar.html.de (German variant). Now in the PHP code, I simply placed: <? virtual("/central/foobar"); ?> and let Apache take care to deliver the correct language variant. The problem As said, this worked fine for about 10 years: German visitors got the German variant, all others the English (depending on their preferred language). But after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04, it no longer worked: Either nothing was delivered from the virtual() command, or (in connection with framesets) it even ended up in binary gibberish. Trying to figure out what happens, I played with a lot of things. I first thought MultiViews was (somehow) not available anymore -- but calling http://<server>/central/foobar showed the right variant, depending on the configured language preferences. This also proved there was nothing wrong with file permissions. The error.log gave no clues either (no error message thrown). Finally, just as a "last ressort", I changed the PHP command to <? virtual("central/foobar.html"); ?> -- and that very same file was in fact included. So PHP's virtual() function basically worked -- but the language dependend stuff obviously did no longer work together with it as it did before. Of course I tried to find some change (most likely in PHP's virtual() command), using Google a lot, and also searching the questions here -- unfortunately to no avail. Finally: The question Putting "design questions" aside (surely today I would design things differently -- but at least currently I miss the time to change that for a quite huge amount of pages): What can be done to make it work again? I surely missed something -- but I cannot figure out what...

I use the spelling check quite often, but I need to swap between english and spanish all the time according to the website. • SQL Server 2012 memory usage steadily growing

  I am very worried about the SQL Server 2012 Express instance on which my database is running: the SQL Server process memory usage is growing steadily (1.5GB after only 2 days working). The database is made of seven tables, each having a bigint primary key (Identity) and at least one non-unique index with some included columns to serve the majority of incoming queries. An external application is calling via Microsoft OLE DB some stored procedures, each of which do some calculations using intermediate temporary tables and/or table variables and finally do an upsert (UPDATE....IF @@ROWCOUNT=0 INSERT.....) - I never DROP those temporary tables explicitly: the frequency of those calls is about 100 calls every 5 seconds (I saw that the DLL used by the external application open a connection to SQL Server, do the call and then close the connection for each and every call). The database files are organized in only one filgegroup, recovery type is set to simple. Some questions to diagnose the problem: is that steadily growing memory normal? did I do any mistake in database design which probably lead to this behaviour? (no explicit temp-table drop, filegroup organization, etc) can SQL Server manage such a stored procedure call rate (100 calls every 5 seconds, i.e. 100 upsert every 5 seconds, beyond intermediate calculations)? do the continuous "open connection/do sp call/close connection" pattern disturb SQL Server? is it possible to diagnose what is causing such a memory usage? Perhaps queues of wating requests? (I ran sp_who2, but I didn't see a big amount of orphan connections from the external application) if I restrict the amount of memory which SQL Server is allowed to use, may I sooner or later get into trouble?

• Translation of default folder names in Windows

  Windows (all versions) folders have their standard names such as Users, Documents, Local Settings etc that are unfortunately translated in other language versions, and thus instead of the names that are in the path to the folder they appear in the file explorer under quite different names. For example, instead Pictures I get "Moje obrazy" (translation into Polish language), and yet in the path it is still "pictures". This is very confusing and I would like to turn this automatic translation off, but can't find how.

  Hi, I have a date renderer issue for a column. when browser language is in english the date is displayed in this format 09/14/2009 09:23 AM But when i change the browser language to german(or any other language except english) the date is not rendered it displays NAN/NAN/NAN 12:NAN PM Here is the code.. var dateRenderer = Ext.util.Format.dateRenderer('m/d/Y h:i A'); var colModel = new Ext.grid.ColumnModel([ { header: xppo.st('SDE_DATE_OCCURRED'), width: 75, sortable: true, dataIndex: 'DateOccurred', renderer: dateRenderer } ]); How can i render the date in other languages.Please help me with this issue.   I am attempting to create a strongly typed view with a "MVC View User Control" that is being rendered using Html.RenderPartial(). The top of my ascx file looks like this: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Collections.IEnumerable<string>>" %> There is nothing else on this page, currently. When I execute the app and load the page that renders this control, I get the following error: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Collections.IEnumerable<string>>'. So, then I simplified it: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<String>" %> And then, just in case it needed to be fully qualified: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.String>" %> Everytime I get the same error (substituting type). what am I doing wrong here? I'm on .NET 3.5 with ASP.NET MVC 1.0 RTM.

• Loading WPF satellite resources dynamically

  Hello! I've read about satellite-assemblies being used in WPF localizations. However, I would like to ask if there is a way to load the satellite-assemblies without following the pre-defined directory structure that depends on the language (ex. If the system language is English, the WPF application looks for the satellite-assembly inside the "en-US" subfolder). This is because I would like to simply swap the satellite-assemblies when distributing the software package without having to create a specific folder per language that would hold the assemblies. I would just like to have the satellite-assembly and the main executable in the same directory. Is this possible and is there even an easy way to do this like simply loading the resource file on application startup once? Thanks!

Using the standard LaTeX command they work fine, but when I try to use pdfLaTeX, they don't get loaded and I get the (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\magyar.ldf (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\babel.def) Package babel /b/c12/cWarning:/b/c0/c No hyphenation patterns were loaded for (babel) the language `Magyar' (babel) I will use the patterns loaded for \language=0 instead. message. Using latex it works fine: (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\latex\00miktex\bblopts.cfg) (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\magyar.ldf (C:\stuff\miktex\tex\generic\babel\babel.def))) I tried updating the FNDB and the Formats, but to no avail.   Hello, I'm newbie in GPU programming , and i work on brute force RAR Password Recovery on ATI Stream Processor using brook+ language, but i see that the kernel written in brook+ language doesn't allow any calling to normal functions (except kernel functions) , my questions is : 1) how to use unrar.dll (to unrar archive files) API in this situation? and is this the only way to program RAR password recovery? 2) what about crack and ElcomSoft software that use GPU , how they work ? 3) what exactly the role for the function work inside GPU (ATI Stream processor or CUDA) in this program? 4) is nVidia/CUDA technology is easier/more flexible than ATI/brook+ language ?
