  • Granting Read-Only access to an existing Oracle Schema

    Hi, we've got an Oracle 11g Schema that our application uses to select, insert and update, but we've had a request from one of our customers to provide read-only access to the same base tables and views owned by the application. Other than synonym'ing all of the application owned tables into a new account (or making the synonyms public), how would I go about doing this? Any help or pointers to the approach or Oracle feature I should be looking at would be most appreciated, thank you!

  • Find wait reason in Oracle

    I'm running a Java application with an Oracle 10g. I've discovered kind of a race condition that leads to an inifite long waiting time for an UPDATE statement. To solve this situation I'd like to find out what this statement is waiting for (locks on certain tables caused by statement xy etc.). I tried to use the Oracle Enterprise Manager which has found this situation as well but it doesn't tell my the reason for the wait.

  • BPM 11g and Human Workflow Shadow Rows by Adam Desjardin

    During the OFM Forum last week, there were a few discussions around the relationship between the Human Workflow (WF_TASK*) tables in the SOA_INFRA schema and BPMN processes.  It is important to know how these are related because it can have a performance impact.  We have seen this performance issue several times when BPMN processes are used to model high volume system integrations without knowing all of the implications of using BPMN in this pattern. Most people assume that BPMN instances and their related data are stored in the CUBE_*, DLV_*, and AUDIT_* tables in the same way that BPEL instances are stored, with additional data in the BPM_* tables as well.  The group of tables that is not usually considered though is the WF* tables that are used for Human Workflow.  The WFTASK table is used by all BPMN processes in order to support features such as process level comments and attachments, whether those features are currently used in the process or not.   • Weblogic - Dynamic Clustering in practice by Andy Overton

    The latest version of Weblogic (12.1.2) includes support for Dynamic Clustering. For more details on what else is new in 12.1.2 see my previous blog post. In this blog post I will look at setting up a dynamic cluster on 2 machines with 4 managed servers (2 on each). I will then deploy an application to the cluster and show how to expand the cluster. What is a dynamic cluster? A dynamic cluster is any cluster that contains one or more dynamic servers. Each server in the cluster will be based upon a single shared server template. The server template allows you to configure each server the same and ensures that servers do not need to be manually configured before being added to the cluster. This allows you to easily scale up or down the number of servers in your cluster without the need for setting up each server manually. Changes made to the server template are rolled out to all servers that use that template. Read the complete article here.     April, May and June will be jam-packed with some really cool events, not just within the KW region, but across Canada (and one very popular annual event coming up in the US). MoBeers 3: The European Invasion, an event where it's all about great mobile content and beers, is coming to Kitchener on April 10th at The Museum. Registration is $5.   • The biggest ADF conference "down under"

    While Oracle Open World is the place to be for ADF presentations, for Aussies living in Perth, San Francisco is a tad far away (believe me from experience, the 23hrs flight from PER-SYD-SFO is tedious).  That's why I'm very excited to see that the Australian Oracle User Group at this year's Perth conference is running its largest set of ADF presentation to date: 5! Okay, it doesn't compare to the 60 ADF sessions at OOW, but it's a small conference of around 300 people that runs for 2 days with 54 sessions total, not 40000 people that runs for 5 days with 1900+ sessions, so I think that's a good effort for a conference that's at the end of the earth!   • Unity calendar lens not showing events

    I'm trying to get proper/useful calendar integration into Ubuntu 12.04. I have a Google Calendar (& account) and I want to be able to use this without opening the browser. I want to get the Unity Calendar lens working, so that it shows events coming up, and it allows me a quick way to add new events. However, after installing it, it does not find any events, nor allow me to add a new event. Note that I've installed Lightning 1.4, Evolution mirror 0.2.3, Evolution, and unity-calendar lens. I've also installed Calendar-indicator. I suspect that somehow the lens is not getting the calendar information from thunderbird via evolution. A bit of searching around led me to try this command: /usr/lib/calendar-lens/calendar-lens-daemon.py. If you've ever found yourself in a situation where you were concerned about installing a piece of software because it might be too buggy, or wanted to have a dedicated system to test things on, or wanted to run Windows on a Mac or Oracle Solaris on a PC (or hundreds of other combinations!), or didn't want to install your company's VPN software directly on your home system, then you should definitely give Oracle VM VirtualBox a try.     The AutoVue API (previously called the “VueBean” API) is a great way to extend AutoVue Client/Server Deployment – specifically the client component – beyond the out-of-the-box capabilities and into new use-cases. In addition to having a solid grasp of J2SE programming, make sure to leverage the following resources if you’re developing or interested in developing customizations/extensions to AutoVue Client/Server Deployment: Programmer’s Guide: Before all else, read through the AutoVue API Programmer’s Guide to get an understanding of the architecture of the API. The Programmer’s Guide is included with the installation of AutoVue, and is posted on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) website for the recent versions of AutoVue: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/documentation/autovue-091442.html Javadocs: The AutoVue API Javadocs document the many packages, classes, and methods available to you.
