    My Server went into a faulty state since the database could not write on the partition. I found out that the partition went into Read Only mode. Finally to fix it, I had to do a hard reboot.     I am installing Windows 2008 R2 x64 (Microsoft OEM version) on a ProLint ML 150 with Smart Array B110i controller. I load the B110i drivers from a USB thumbdrive, Windows Setup can create, delete and format correctly the partitions on the raidset, but when I exit the disk manager to start setup, Windows says that he cannot find a primary partition to install Windows. The EasySetup disk provided with the system does not support Windows 2008 R2 x64 Microsoft OEM. I downloaded the latest version of EasySetup from HP website, but does not support Windows 2008 R2 x64 Microsoft OEM. Any suggestion?

  • Ubuntu - Upgrade to 10.4 - general error mounting filesystems

    Hello All, Using upgrade manager I upgraded my 8.x LTS installation to 10.4. After rebooting the system failed encountered an error and dropped into the recovery console. It appeared to be a problem caused by ureadahead as described here: http://ubuntuguide.net/howto-fix-ureadahead-problem-after-upgrading-to-ubuntu-10-04. So I renamed ureadahead.conf to ureadahead.moved (after remounting the partition rw). this did not help so I renamed the file back again. After rebooting the following error appears: ureadahead terminated with status 5. udev_monitor_new_from_netlink: error getting socket: Invalid Argument mountall:mountall.c:3204 assertion failed in main: udev_monitor = udev_monitor_new_from_netlink(udev,"udev") init: mountall main process (2532) killed by ABRT signal.   • Can't boot up computer windows 8 installation

    I wanted to install Windows 8 with a volume partition and when the Windows 8 was installing it rebooted and it gave me an error: The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified. File :windows \system 32\winload.exe error code 0xc0000428. I have tried bootec commands and they didn't seem to fix it. Also my Windows 7 got deleted and I only have to boot with the Windows 8 error, so I can't do anything not even boot to safe mode. I have tried to install Windows 8 from disk later on and it won't let me because it keeps rebooting and starting the installation again, so I took off the disk before it rebooted and it takes me to that error again. Remember that's my only boot option so I'm stuck in the installation disk.

But should model.Reason_ID. That's a big problem, becouse ExpressionHelper.GetExpressionText(expr) returns empty string. What a strange magic is that? How can I get rid of it?

    I have Windows 7 64-bit running on a MacBook Pro in a Boot Camp partition. I am trying to pair with my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and wireless keyboard under Windows, but whenever I try to do so, here's what happens: While on the Add a device window, I turn on the mouse or press a key on the keyboard, and the mouse or keyboard shows up in the list of available devices. I click the device and then the Next button, and the window displays Connecting to device... Time passes. Eventually, I get this error message indicating that the device could not be accessed. The error code is 0x80070015. I've run Windows Update and Apple Software Update.

    I'm starting a project that involves writing mailets for Apache James. As far as I can tell, the only way to test a change in my code (on Windows) is through the following steps: Compile the mailet code Build a jar file containing the mailet Copy the jar file into the apps/james/SAR-INF/lib directory Start JAMES from run.bat Run test Stop JAMES by telneting to port 4555 and issuing a shutdown command (I guess on Linux a SIGTERM would suffice) I can automate all these steps using Ant and some scripting magic, but I was wondering if I was missing something. Does anyone here have experience developing mailets? Did you use a similar process, or is there an easier way? For example, is there a way to make a running James instance reload the mailets JAR?

  • Spring 3 Security Authentication Success Handler

    I am using form-login for security and I am trying to implement an authentication success handler, but I am not sure how to go back to the resource that was initially requested before the login process. By default I think it implements a SimpleUrlAuthenticationSuccessHandler and I tried to mirror that class implementation. But it sets a setDefaultTargetUrl(defaultTargetUrl) and perhaps thats where the magic happens that it remembers the resource to go back to after the login process. Any help is greatly appreciated.   • "GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada0"

    Recently upgraded my FreeBSD install to FreeBSD 9.1-stable from the 9-stable branch. I have two SATA hard drives (/dev/ada0, /dev/ada1) in a geom mirror, with nothing between : [/dev/ada0, /dev/ada1] --> /dev/mirror/gm0, which I then partition for root etc. After upgrading from 9.0-stable to 9.1-stable, I found these messages on the console: GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada0 GEOM_MIRROR: cancelling unmapped because of ada1 GEOM_MIRROR: Device mirror/gm0 launched (2/2). Everything still seems to work, the mirror seems healthy and the machine works just fine, peformance is fine.

  • Mac does not recognize wide screen

    I am using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 on my Mac mini, with Samsung monitor with default resolution 1360 x 768. My Mac mini is connected to Samsung VGA port by Apple mini port to VGA adapter. When starting, my Mac does not recognize the wide screen resolution and always starts in a 4:3 mode, (but it shows 1360x768 as the resolution in the settings). I have to do one of the following actions to bring my Mac to the wide screen resolution: (1) Changing to some other resolution and bring back to the default resolution. (2) Unplug the Apple mini port to VGA adapter and re-connect again. (3) Put the machine to sleep and wake it up again. I am using Ubuntu 12.04, (in a different partition) in the same hardware, but Ubuntu is perfectly recognizing the display.

  • Ubuntu hibernate resume fails: "PM: Resume from disk failed"

    I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.4 from 9.10, and it's now hiding the hibernate and suspend options. How do I get them back? So the way you do this is make sure that your swap partition is in /etc/fstab and swap is enabled, and big enough. Look at /proc/swaps to see if anything is listed. Now I'm getting this error when I boot after suspending: init: ureadahead-other main process (705) terminated with status 4 Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm using Ubuntu with kernel 2.6.32-22-generic.

  • gparted installed on OpenSuse shows all file system types as greyed out except for hfs

    I have had this problem before and fixed it, but I don't recall how I did it and I did not record it (sadness :( ) I have all the requisite commands installed on OpenSuse to support gparted's efforts in creating any of the supported file systems. I recall that the problem was that gparted could not find the commands, in any event all the file systems are greyed out in the context menu except for the legacy hfs partition which only supports < 2gb. Even extfs2-extfs4 are greyed out. How do I fix this?

After the considerable effort to find that bug I've got to ask why would anyone ever want this behavior? I can see how this might be useful for macro magic, but then why is this a "feature" in a modern language like python? Have you ever used string literal concatenation in production code?

  • Determing software estimates and tracking past estimates

    I know that this probably has as many answers as users here on SO, but software estimation always seemed like an esoteric science. Software developers don't have a magic book to refer to as exist in many other industries. I've been spending the last couple of days working on putting together some estimates for a bit of work that I am proposing for a freelance project that I am working on and am having trouble getting it down. I'm not experienced with any real software estimation practices and am trying to go from the gut based on my experience but also trying to be a little loose (not too loose though) on the estimates to leave me a bit of room to work. I read this blog entry http://blogs.popart.com/2007/07/what-scotty-from-star-trek-can-teach-us-about-managing-expectations/ that was linked to from SO and would like to start tracking my estimates at work as well even though I'm not really required to create estimates there. What tools or techniques would you recommend? Also, how much padding do you usually add in to a time estimate?

  • Restore deleted default folders

    I was tinkering with my new laptop and, on purpose, deleted those default folders in my "home" directory: "My Music", "Links", "Favorites". This, because, i decided i wanted all my data on another partition, leaving C: only for applications and configs files. But now, some of the explorer functionalities are gone: i cannot use the Favorites tree in the left side pane, also discovered that "My Documents" stores some PowerShell config file. I feel like i misunderstood this folders' purpose and by deleting them, provoked some Explorer instability. Is there any way to restore them? I do not seem to find it.   • Load Average runaway

    Is there any way to chase down lockups and runaway load averages? Every so often (pretty randomly) I'll get my load average spike up over 5 usually to around 10-15 and sometimes as high as 75 (dual core machine), and cause my system to lock for an indeterminate amount of time. The only thing I can possibly chase it to is using nVidia fakeraid (RAID-1) with JFS on top of that for my /home partition. Also I noticed that when my load averages spike, the power management system doesn't step up my processor speed from 1.6 to its maximum 2.13Ghz clock speed (not sure if this makes a huge difference with this problem). Any ideas?

    The more I look into ESX the more often i have to handle cases where the partition table of a disk with a VMFS volume gets corrupted. The reasons for this can be * idiot user * failed update * power failure * .... I guess you guys must already have something like a usual procedure on how to work through this cases. I am especially interested in a straight fast way to find out if the VMFS volume itself is corrupted beyond repair. So far I use very time consuming attempts with scans with Testdisk and similar tools. Do you have better / faster ways ?

  • Differences between RHEL5 NFS and Solaris 2.6 NFS

    I have a legacy application (LabVIEW 7.0) running on my Sun Ultra 5 workstation running Solaris 2.6. I want to use a RHEL5 server to store all files so that I am not cluttering the small HDD on the Sun. I have found that the LabVIEW file browser has a bug which prevents it from seeing some files and folders in an NFS share mounted from RHEL5, but this problem is not present when using an NFS share mounted from another Ultra 5 using Solaris 2.6. I believe in both cases NFSv3 is being used. Is there some way I can make the RHEL5 NFS behave more like Solaris 2.6? If I make a new partition on the RHEL5 box and install OpenSolaris, will this behave more like Solaris 2.6? I am locked into using this buggy LabVIEW program, so somehow I need to make it work.

  • Make bootable iso with grub chainloading

    My parents' pc has windows 7's boot manager installed at MBR and grub2 is installed on /dev/sda2 (booting linux on /dev/sda2). I want to make a bootable cd so that when booted from it just chainloads into the boot manager on the second partition. I assume using grub rather than grub2 for this will be simpler, using the configuration timeout=0 hiddenmenu default=0 title grub2 (/dev/sda2) rootnoverify (hd0,1) chainloader (hd0,1)+1 I know I can make a bootable linux cd in various ways, but that is not what I want. I just want to put grub/grub2 on the cd, no kernels or programs. The question is how do I make the iso file? I have found some references to installing on a floppy or usb disk, but all those assume the device is present when running the grub install commands. A iso file is different.

    I plan to install a 500GB drive in my notebook (HP dv2613tu/1.5gHz/4MB RAM) and need advice about optimum size and number of partitions to create. Ideally looking for the following: OS (Windows 7 Ultimate) Swap file Applications Data ??? As a long time Mac user I'm not nearly as informed about Windows. I could leave everything as a single partition, but am seeking maximum performance and efficiency from my system (which won't be changing anytime soon). So, would separate partitions help with this aim? And given my usual habit of accumulating stuff, I want to reserve most space for Applications and Data. I've also set myself a project over the next couple of years of digitizing the whole of my 35 y.o. collection of slides and photographs from my travelling days. Thanks. Pat. Mitchell

  • jQuery Thickbox and Google Maps Extinfowindow

    I am trying to place a link into an Extinfowindow that obtains its content through an Ajax call. So, I click on a push pin marker, up pops the Extinfowindow with my ThickBox link in it, and when I inspect the DOM for the entire page at that point, I can see the element correctly showing up with the "thickbox" class. The link looks like this <A class="thickbox" title="" href="http://localhost:1293/Popup.aspx? height=200&width=300&modal=true">Modal Popup</A> However, when I click on it, it does a full refresh and the target page loads in the browser, not in a popup. It seems that when the <A> for the Thickbox control is injected into the DOM after the initial load, jQuery is no longer able to do its magic and intercept the anchor link request. Does anybody have thoughts about how to do this better?

    What is the magic that makes components cling to the edges of a form? I had thought that one must use the resize event of the form and them force each element in the form to resize. But then I saw some sample code which, even when I am editing the form, the elements seem to adhere to a percentage of the space they take up in the form rather than a set diminsion. In other words, when I am editing the form and resizing it, the panels and the parts inside the form bend their shape such that the edges remain a few pixels from the edges. But in my own program I have not been able to find where I can duplicate this feature.   • Ubuntu Server - Power failure leads to boot failure

    I have installed Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 LTS on an ext4 partition. Whenever my system looses power suddenly, It doesn't boot into the normal procedure to fix the problems automatically, but switches to the busy box shell (where it says Kernel Panic : No init found) So I guess kernel is refusing to mount the filesystem when it is not clean, since when I boot up using a Live CD and fsck it, it boots up correctly. How can I force kernel to mount the filesystem, even if it is not clean ?, so that automated fsck on system startup fixes the problems... (or it's a grub problem ?) K-V : 2.6.32-26-generic-pae #48-Ubuntu SMP
