• VCS strategy with TeamCity and CI

  I'm planning a strategy which seeks to allow automated deployment of a website codebase into QA and production on check-in. We're using the fabulous TeamCity. We want to control release to live production; i.e. not have every check-in on Trunk go live. So my plan is to use Trunk as QA. Committing to Trunk triggers deployment to QA. I will then have a Production branch which also triggers deployment on commit, to the live site. The idea is simply that Trunk represents the mainline codebase but it hasn't gone live yet. We can branch features and do daily pulls from Trunk into those feature branches as per normal and merge/re-integrate into Trunk when we're happy for it to go to QA. When the BAs give the nod, we then smash a bottle of champagne and merge Trunk to Production and out she goes. I've never seen it done like this. Other greenfield CI strategies involve hiding features and code from production via config - this codebase can't cope with that - or just having CI on QA and taking cuts and manually pushing to live. Does my plan sound alright?

• Schedule of Password Expiration to a specific time

  Is there a way in Windows Server 2003 or 2008 and in Active Directory, to specify in a policy that when a users password expires that day, to have it expire at a certain time, say 4:00am. The issue came up, because the expiration occurs during the middle of the working day, say 9:00am. Then when a user is already logged into Windows in the network, and using different applications, those will start behaving wrongly because of authentication. They have to log out and log back in, in order for Windows to ask for the new password. So, if when they log in early in the morning it would ask for the new password, then they won't have to log back out during the working day. One of the AD Admins said: "Have them check if their password will expire before starting the day".. but really, who does that? And I don't have access to an AD to check these types of policies. So, is this possible?

• Flow Fields in Dynamics NAV

  I don’t know the exact business reason but someone asked how to identify all sales shipping orders with any negative quantities on them.  They needed to print these separately from the shipments that only have all positive quantities. Here is one way to solve this problem In NAV, open Sales Shipment Header Add a field of type Boolean (The field type should match the value you expect to return from the flow field method.  In this case we will use an exist so we expect a bool but we could have used a Sum, Average, Min, Max, Count, or a Lookup to return a value). Define it as a flow field and click on the ellipse next to CalcFormula Now [Has Negative Qty] is false if no negatives exist And [Has Negative Qty] and true if a negative exist So it is ready to be used as a filter on the report. Don’t forget that if you are using it in code, you may need to CalcFields. Hope that helps.  If you really can’t afford the field in your header, you can use code to check the lines for a negative value each time and use a skip or break function to skip that header record but it seems expensive to check them all if you only want a few to print. Please let me know if you think of a better solution.

  I have a xen vps, which I just upgraded to the new LTS 12 Precise Pangolin.   It seems I have found a "bug" in Mercurial. It takes a shortcut when checking for differences in tracked files. • How long does badblocks take on a 1TB drive?

  I'm running badblocks (or rather "e2fsck -c") on a 1TB drive and if the progress indicator is any indication (no pun intended), it's going to take almost forever to complete. Right now it says 0.01% done, 30:20 elapsed which would mean the thing would take 17 weeks or so to complete, which seems rather excessive in my book. Is that a normal amount of time for such a check to take or it simply that my suspicions are correct in that the drive is failing, thus causing the check to take only slightly shorter than eternity? I found this question here, but that pertains to the amount of passes done.

• Outlook 2007 meeting request varying times across users

  I've googled this quite a bit, but none of the answers seem to apply to me. User A creates a meeting and invites everyone to a meeting at 1:30pm. Everyone gets the meeting for 1:30pm except User B who gets it for 2:30pm. User B responds with a "Correction" for 1:30pm and it shows up to User A for 12:30pm. I've checked Time Zone settings both in Windows Time and Date settings and also in Outlook options for both computers involved. Also, the DST check boxes are all checked (4x). I'm not sure what else to check. Any ideas?

  Here are the specs to put things into context: ECS P4VXASD2+ (V5.0) motherboard Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.8 GHz (512 KB L2, 533 MHz FSB) 2x 512 MB PC2100 DDR266 RAM 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 AGP WD Caviar SE 80 GB IDE HDD Gigabyte CD-RW drive OKIA 300W ATX PSU So, everytime I try to boot up this computer, it takes at least 10-15 seconds before it will POST. All my other machines will post within 1-2 seconds, but this one takes a particularly long time. I've read suggestions from a Google search to swap the CMOS battery, check BIOS settings, and double check CMOS jumper. Still after follow those, it takes a while to POST. What else could be causing a long delay before POSTing?

I get the error "There was a problem connecting to the server "192.168.1.*" The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your internet connection and then try again. How can I remove this error and access my shared files from my Mac? P.S my network connections is fine.

  I am trying to protect files on my server (multiple types), with NGiNX and PHP. Basically I want people to have to sign in to the website if they want to access those static files like images. DropBox does it very well. Where by they force you to sign in to access any static files you put on there server. I though about using NGiNX Perl Module. And I would write a perl script that would check the session to see if the user was sign in to give them access to a static file. I would prefer using PHP because all my code is running under PHP and I am not sure how to check a session created by PHP with PERL. So basically my question is: How can I protect static files of any types that would need the user to have sign in and have a valid session created with a PHP script?

  Hi can someone please help me. I'm using win7 64Bit and I'm trying to download this program "Croque-Mort" But when I do, I'm getting an error: "Component MSINET.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" I tried to check it by opening my cmd.exe and run as administrator and then type : regsvr32 msinet.ocx Then I got an error: "The module "MSINET.OCX" failed to load. Make sure the binary is sorted at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or depenedent .DLL files. The specified module coudl not be found" Is there a way to install this component? Would appreciate your help

• Tomcat / Railo stop responding with no error output

  This is going to sound very vague and I'm sure it will be voted down for not giving enough information however I don't really have any to give as you will see. We have an AWS instance running Amazon Linux, Apache, Tomcat and Railo and from time to time the Tomcat/Railo simply stops responding to requests and there are no errors output in the catalina.out file or any of the other log files in the Tomcat logs directory. When I issue the command to restart Tomcat/Railo the restart scripts sits there for a while then says that Tomcat has not responded so it has killed it off and then it starts up again and everything is fine until it happens again, anything from a couple of minutes to a couple of days later. I have done my best to check other logs on the server but have found no messages at all to indicate why Tomcat/Railo has given up and stopped responding. Can anyone suggest any reason why it might be doing this and / or any other log file(s) that we could check to see what is happening. Thanks. Andrew.

You may want to check this blog, where I found the missing part on this how to, but I'm blogging this again because I wanted to put it in a simpler way, straight to the point. And if you are looking for a how to for Mac, check Arun Gupta's post.  So, here's the step-by-step: 1 - Download the ZIP distribution (don't worry if your system is x86_64)Don't forget to accept the OTN Free Developer License Agreement! 2 - Choose where to install your WebLogic server and your domain, and set as your MW_HOME environment variableI will use /opt/middleware/weblogic for this how to export MW_HOME=/opt/middleware/weblogicMake sure this path exists in your system. 'mydomains' will be used to keep your WebLogic domain. mkdir -p $MW_HOME/mydomain 3 - If you don't have your JAVA_HOME environment variable still configured, do it.   I have a static mockup page, which I want to "customize" by switching a variable used in image-src and link-href attributes. Paths will look like this: <img src="/some/where/VARIABLE/img/1.jpg" alt="" /> <link rel="some" href="/some/where/VARIABLE/stuff/foo.bar" /> I'm setting a cookie with the VARIABLE value on the preceding page and now want to modfiy the paths accordingly by replacing VARIABLE with the cookie value. I'm a htaccess newbie. This is what I have (doesn't work): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> # get cookie value cookie RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} client=([^;]*) # rewrite/redirect to correct file RewriteRule ^/VARIABLE/(.+)$ /%1/$1 [L] </IfModule> So I thought my first line gets the cookie value and stores this in %1. And on the second line I'm filtering VARIABLE, replace it with the cookie value and whatever comes after VARIABLE in $1. Thanks for sheeding some light on what I'm doing, doing wrong and if I can do this at all using htaccess. EDIT: I'm sort of halfway through, but it's still not working... • XNA - 2D Rotation of an object to a selected direction

  I'm trying to figure out the best way of rotating an object towards the directional input of the user. I'm attempting to mimic making turns on ice skates. For instance, if the player is moving right and the input is down and left, the player should start rotating to the right a set amount each tick. I'll calculate a new vector based on current velocity and rotation and apply that to the current velocity. That should give me nice arcing turns, correct? At the moment I've got eight if/else statements for each key combination which in turn check the current rotation: // Rotate to 225 if (keyboardState.IsKeyDown(Keys.Up) && keyboardState.IsKeyDown(Keys.Left)) { // Rotate right if (rotation >= 45 || rotation < 225) { rotation += ROTATION_PER_TICK; } // Rotate left else if (rotation < 45 || rotation > 225) { rotation -= ROTATION_PER_TICK; } } This seems like a sloppy way to do this and eventually, I'll need to do this check about 10 times a tick. Any help toward a more efficient solution is appreciated.

• How to fix this error 'cvs [checkout aborted]: no such tag r20120711' on php eclipse helios?

  I am using php eclipse helios for debugging php code and using CVS as repositiry. Under CVS repository there are 3 - head branch version and head conatins the repository of server. Under head again I have 3 bms cvsroot news4u To create a new branch I used to click on news4u and select a option 'add to branch list'. But accidently I selected 'Tag as version' with name r20120711 and after that I have created a branch by same name. Now if check out is taken, it gets check out partially and gets failed and if tried to commit the resource, it says, 'no tag is found by that name'. How to fix this.
