  • Cannot install .NET Framework 4.0 on Windows XP SP3

    I'm using Windows XP SP3 logged in as the administrator. I had RAID Mirroring running. The motherboard broke earlier in the year. When I got a new battery I did not resync. I just use the disks as two separate disks. I searched Google for the errors but I didn't find anything detailed enough.   • Intel P6100 CPU and Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset

    I have an Asus K52F-BBR5 notebook that uses an Intel P6100 ( 2GHZ 15x multiplier) and HM55 Express Chipset. I'm looking to replace it's 3GB with 8GB. The Crucial database seems to indicate that a PC3-8500 CAS 7 and PC3-10666 CAS 9 will both work. I'm not up to date on the latest DDR3 nomencalature and I'm wondering which would provide better performance. The price difference is negligible. Drawing on past experiences from many many years ago I could make an argument for either based on sync/async bus speed arguments and CAS latency differences but the truth is I don't know enough about the HM55 chipset to know which would be the correct choice. Does anyone know the answer or point me to information that would help me make the choice? I'm pretty sure the performance difference will be somewhat negligible also but still I'd like to make the optimal choice.

    I'm not entirely sure how to properly explain this, but here we go... I'm trying to create a single budgeting document that allows me to manage purchasing and reconciliation for multiple projects. I would like to create separate sheets per project and have purchased items populate on a master sheet. Using conditional formatting, I've set one of the columns to display an item's status (waiting for approval, approved, ordered, received). I would like the contents of an entire row to populate in a new sheet table once the status is set to "Received." The sheet should update descendingly. I can't attach an image because I don't have a 10 reputation.. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to create tunnel to utilize for telnet connection.

    The scenario is as follows: Machine A is located behind client firewall. The machine runs telnetd. This is Linux machine with Python 2.5.4 installed. I do not know the IP addy of the router and firewall is not open incoming. outgoing firewall is open. Machine B (Windows machine) is a server with well known IP address. I can install any programs I want on either machine. The idea is that I want Machine A to open a socket to machine B. Then I want to hold that socket and use to run a telnet session from Machine B to Machine A telnetd server. Is there any freeware that does this? Thoughts? Thanks!

    In Ubuntu the path variable is stored in /etc/enviorment. This is mine (I've made no changes to it, this is the system default): $ cat /etc/environment PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games" but when I examine my PATH variable: $ echo $PATH /home/dan/bin:/home/dan/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin/X11 You'll notice /usr/games is missing (it was there up until a few days ago). My /etc/profile makes no mention of PATH. My ~/.profile is the default and only has: if [ -d "$HOME/bin" ] ; then PATH="$HOME/bin:$PATH" fi This only happens in gnome, not in tty1-6. This is missing from both gnome terminal and when I try to call applications from the applications dropdown. Anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks.

    Hi, I'm trying to access my OSX (snow leopard) machine from my Windows 7 machine. Both machines are within my local network I don't need outside access. I'm using Vine Server (OSXvnc) for OSX and TightVNC Viewer for Windows, but TightVNC keeps telling me that the host is unreachable. Any idea what could be wrong? how could I troubleshoot this kind of issue? Appreciate your help.

  • Windows Vista SP2 and DEP Woes for Older Program

    I have a database client (4D 2004 Client... which, for the record, I vehemently hate but am forced to use because our company is still running this) that I'm trying to run in Windows Vista SP2. I've added the program to the DEP Exceptions list (per a 4D tech article detailing this problem... sorry, can't find the link now) and restarted the computer, but every time I try to log-in to our remote database, the program is shut down by Vista, citing a DEP event. And yes, I have restarted the computer several times, so the new DEP settings should be in effect. I'm a bit confused at this since I specifically added the 4DClient.exe to the DEP Exception list! I realize that very few (if any) of you might have this exact problem with this exact program, but can anyone shed light on the fact that DEP still seems to be enabled for a program that I've specifically added to the DEP exception list?!?

    I've got a WRT54GS that I've loaded the current version of Tomato onto. I entered static DHCP addresses in for the devices on my network, released and renewed the address on my desktop and tried to ping another computer. All I got was The request could not find host blah. Please check the name and try again. Now, I verified that my desktop and the target machine I'm trying to ping have both received their proper static DHCP lease and that their DNS server is the IP address of my router. What am I missing?

    I'd like to permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open, in the same way that the taskbar allows in Windows. Can I do this on Mac? Some details: i have many virtual desktops (spaces), so often a single application has windows on many of them. I often have multiple windows of each application, such as the terminal or browser, on the same virtual desktop I have multiple monitors, if it matters. Edit: When I say 'permanently see a clickable list of windows I have open' I mean that I want to see every window I have open, and I'd like to be able to click on each one to open that window. I'm not looking for the newer behaviour where tasks are clustered by application.

    I thought that all operating systems would merge folder content when being moved to the same location. Imagine my surprise when that didn't happen and I have hundreds, if not thousands of files that have gone missing and are nowhere to be found. Because they were not "deleted" they are not in the trash bin. I've tried to do some recovery using a program called stellarPheonix but after about a 24hour scan, it didn't recognize any of the raw files (.dng,.arw) as image files and so I couldn't see if they could be recovered. It also didn't show the directory structure, which would be handy. I tried a quick scan, but all it showed was files that were still on the HD, not sure what the point of that is. I've used recover 2000 on Win and it does a good job, does anyone know of anything that works quickly and reliably for this kind of file recovery. (I don't think I should have to do a sector-by=sector for this kind of file loss)

  • How to get used of trackpoint on a thinkpad?

    Recently my shoulder hurts due to frequently arm movement switching between keyboard and mouse. Then I start using trackpoint. The problem is, while everyone saying the trackpoint is more accurate than touchpad, I find it very hard to accurately move the cursor using trackpoint. Large movements are ok, but when it comes to fine movements, such as click a close button or check a checkbox, it takes longer time. Should I just practice more, or are there any good tips or tutorials around?

  • Big square ads appear in lower right corner of both IE and Chrome

    In both IE and Chrome, large ads appear in the lower right corner of the browser window. Sometime they look reputable like for Microsoft, but sometimes they are big flashing boxes that say "You have won". Right now I am looking at "Need to lose 30 lbs?" I ran Microsofot Security Essentials and it didn't find anything. I then ran Windows Defender Offline (boot from CD). WDO found five things lincluding browser hijack that caused the wrong page to appear after clicking a link. It reported that it cleaned successfully, after which I ran a quick scan to confirm. After rebooting I still see the ads. Do I still have an infection? Any other tools to try? What about ComboFix? Thanks Update: Here's a screenshot - on superuser

  • How to create a Windows 7 installation usb media from linux ? (to install Windows 7) - Help need to know better method

    I have been reading some web pages and posts here and in other forums about how to create a Windows 7 installation Usb media (to install windows 7 using a usb) from linux. I asked in technet about this , and they give me general ideas about how to do it I personally am not very familiar with linux, but basicaly all that you need to do... in whatever way you do it is the following: Format a usb flash drive, either fat32 or ntfs create a partition that is large enough to host the windows installation (give or take 3GB for 64bit, aroudn 2.5gb for 32bit) and mark that partition as active/bootable. Since this can be done with windows, but just as well with a tool like gparted, you should be able to do the same in debian. Once you have created that partition, mount the iso that you download, and copy all files starting from the root, into the root of the usb flash drive. That's all there's to it. There is a method that i found in various places,that is almost the same that the man of technet has said. But,there is a step,that in that method is done,that i don't know if it is really necessary,or not. Not allways dd works.Basically, the missing step was to write a proper boot sector to the usb stick, which can be done from linux with ms-sys. This works with the Win7 retail version. Here is the complete rundown again: Install ms-sys Check what device your usb media is asigned - here we will assume it is /dev/sdb. Delete all partitions, create a new one taking up all the space, set type to NTFS, and set it bootable: *# cfdisk /dev/sdb* Create NTFS filesystem: *# mkfs.ntfs -f /dev/sdb1* Mount iso and usb media: *# mount -o loop win7.iso /mnt/iso # mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb* Copy over all files: *# cp -r /mnt/iso/* /mnt/usb/* Write Windows 7 MBR on usb stick: *# ms-sys -7 /dev/sdb* ...and you're done. Shouldn't the usb work without doing the last step "# ms-sys -7 /dev/sdb" or to make the usb bootable , is a must , not only to mark the partition as bootable ? Would be better use rsync instead of cp -r ? All this steps should be done as root, i suppose , or if not , chmod to 664 and chown the directories where are mounted the usb and the iso, no ? But i suppose that the easier thing is to copy the data as root , and that this will not affect to the data. Has anyone tried this method or some similar like copying the iso with dd ?

  • My computer freezes irregularly

    My computer started to freeze at irregular times for 3 weeks now. Please note that this question change with each things that i try. (For additional details) What happens My computer freezes, the video stops. (No graphic glitches, it just stops) Sound keeps playing up to some time (Usually 10-30 seconds) then stops playing. Sometimes, randomly, the screen on my G-15 keyboard flickers and I see caracters not at the right places. Usually happens for about 1-2 seconds and a bit before my computer freezes. I have to keep the power button pressed for 4 seconds to shut my computer down. I still hear my hard drives and fans working. Sometimes it works with no problems for a full day, some other times it just keeps freezing each time I restart my computer and I have to leave it for the rest of the day. Sometimes my mouse freezes for a fraction of a second (Like 0.01 to 0.2 seconds) quite randomly, usually before it freezes. No errors spotted by the "Action center" unlike when I had problems with my last video card on this system (Driver errors). My G-15 LCD screen also freezes. Sometimes my G-15 LCD screen flickers and caracters gets caried around temporary under heavy load. Now, most of the times, the BIOS hard disks boot order gets reversed for some reason and I have to put it to the right one and save each times I boot. (Might be unrelated, not sure, but it first started yesterday) Sometimes the BIOS doesn't detect my 750GB hard drive plugged in SATA1. What I did so far I have had similar problems in the past and I had changed my hard drive (It was faulty), so I tested my software RAID-0 array and it was faulty so I changed it. (I reinstalled Windows 7 with this part). I also tested with unplugging my secondary hard drive. My CPU was running at about 100 degree Celsius, I removed the dust between the fans and the heatsink and it's now between 45-55. I ran a CPU stress-test and it didn't freeze during the tests (using Prime95 on all cores) Ran a memory test (using memtest86+) for a single pass and there were no errors. Ran a GPU stress test with ati-tools and furmark and it didn't freeze during the tests. (No artefacts either) I had troubles with my graphic card when I got it, but I think that it got fixed with a driver update. I checked the voltages in my BIOS setup and they all seemed ok (±0.2 I think). I have ran on the computer without problems with Fedora 15 on an external hard drive (Appart that it couldn't load Gnome 3 and was reverting to Gnome 2, didn't want to install drivers since I use it on multiple computers) I used it to backup my files from the raid array to my 1TB hard drive for the reinstallation of Windows. (So the crashes only happenned on Windows) [The external hard drive is plugged directly on a SATA port] I contacted EVGA (My graphic card vendor) and pointed them on this question, I'm looking for an answer. Ran sensors on Fedora 15 and got this output: http://pastebin.com/0BHJnAvu Ran 6 short different CPU stress test on Fedora 15 (Haven't found any complete stress testers for Linux) and it didn't crash. Changed the thermal paste to some Artic Silver 5 for my CPU and stress tested the CPU, temperature was at 50 idle, then 64 highest and slowly went down to 62 during the test. Ran some stress testing with a temporary graphic card and it went ok. Ran furmark stress test with my original graphic card and it freezed again. GPU had a temp of 74C, a CPU temp of 58C and a mobo temp of 40C or 45C (Dunno which one it is from SpeedFan). Ran a furmark stress test and a CPU stress test at the same time, results: http://pastebin.com/2t6PLpdJ I have been using my computer without stressing it for about 2 hours now and no crashes yet. I also have disabled the AMD Cool'n'quiet function on the BIOS for a more regular power to the CPU. When I ran Furmark without C'n'q my computer didn't freeze but I had a "Driver Kernel Error" that have recovered (And Furmark crashed) all that while running a CPU stress test. The computer eventually frozed without me being at it, but this time my screen just went on sleep and I couldn't wake it. Using the stability tester in nTune my computer freezed again (In the same manner as before). I notived that Speedfan gives me a -12V of -16.97V and a -5V of -8.78V. I wonder if these numbers are reliable and if they are good or bad. I have swapped my G-15 with another basic USB keyboard (HP) and I have ran furmark for about 10 minutes with a CPU stability test running each 60 seconds for 30 seconds and my computer haven't crashed yet. Ran some more extended tests without my G-15 and it freezed like it usually do. Removed the nForce Hard disk controler. Ever. There have been some power-downs like 4-5 weeks ago, but the problem didn't start immediately after. Update the BIOS firmware to the most recent stable one. Change my motherboard. Status updates Keeping only the last 3 (28/06 04pm) More stress testing and still pass the tests. (28/06 03pm) Been stress testing for 10 minute straight now and 5 minutes with both CPU and GPU being stressed at the same time. (28/06 03pm) Stress-testing right now, so far no problems. A little hope Tests with Furmark and Prime95. Testing Windows bare-bone: 30 Minutes stress, no freeze. Installing an Anti-virus and some software, restarting computer. Testing with Anti-virus and some software (No drivers installed): 30 Minutes stress, no freeze. Installing audio drivers, restarting computer. Testing with the audio drivers: 30 Minutes stress, no freeze. Installing the latest graphic drivers from EVGA's website (without 3d vision since I don't use it), restarting computer. Testing with the graphic drivers: 30 Minutes stress, no freeze. Configuring Windows to my liking and installing more softwares. In this situation, how can I successfully pin-point the current hardware problem? (If it's a hardware problem) Because I don't really have the budget to just forget and replace everything. I also don't really have hardware to test-replace current hardware.

  • Will increasing RAM improve Lightroom 3 large tiff loading times

    Set up: mid 2009 17" unibody MacBook Pro 4GB RAM 2.66 Core 2 Duo Snow Leopard 10.6.6 Lightroom 3 When working with 12 MegaPixel RAW files from a Nikon D700, no problem. Lightroom is fine. Recently I've been scanning film and they result in large tiff files, about 130mb each. The tiff files themselves are good, and I'm happy with my scanning workflow. Working with these files in Lightroom is perfectly fine, except for one step. When I choose one of these photos in the Develop module, Lightroom displays the "Loading" on the image for about a minute or two, which is quite long. Once the image is loaded, then everything is fine again, and applying effects is instant. So my only issue is reducing that "loading" time in the develop module (the library module is fine too). Will increasing my RAM to 8GB help? I'm worried about spending the money and it not making any difference. thanks andy
