• URL parameter names being changed by user agents

  In reviewing one of our site's web logs I'm seeing instances where we are returning a 404 to requests because we're expecting an id parameter to be sent, but instead we're seeing a di parameter. The resource in question is an image but which image file actually gets served is dependent on the id parameter. The expected url is something like http://images.mysite.com/photo.gif?id=123&width=200&height=300 What I'm seeing in the logs is requests for http://images.mysite.com/photo.gif?di=123&width=200&height=300 The only case where we are seeing this on the id parameter. It seems unlikely that this is due to a server side or JavaScript bug since it seems to be only effecting a small percentage of our traffic. We are seeing this across a wide variety of user agents (both mobile and desktop) and IPs. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a browser plugin or other software you're aware of that could be causing this, and if so is there a good way to work around the issue?

  I am building a mobile game loosely based on dual n-back http://brainworkshop.sourceforge.net/tutorial.html Now with the game I have 9 squares (numbered 1 through 9) and 9 letters (A through K) In the current code, I randomly select a square (e.g. 3) and a letter (e.g. C), then repeat the random selection for the next turn. For 1-back, I test whether either, neither or both match the previous turn. The problem with my current code is I get very few matches - I can go through many turns without having either match. How can I increase the match frequency, or alternatively decrease the randomness so a match is more likely? I am not looking for specific code (but pseudo-code would be fine) - just more an approach to increase match frequency.

  I've been a programmer for 15+ years. In my time, we all started with C or C++ and then moved to C# or Java. At that time it was a usual practice. Now, my brother wants to follow my steps and I am not sure what advice to give him. So, I am asking the community for an opinion. Should nowadays new programmer with zero programming knowledge start with functional languages (C, C++, etc.) or he should start directly with OOP languages (Java, C#, etc.)? The reply should be considered in the context of my brother's future assignments. He will mainly work on Java mobile applications as well as ASP.NET web apps. He will have to touch with desktop apps, low level programming, drivers, etc. This is the reason I am not sure if he should ever need to learn functional languages.

I have listed the company in Google Business so it shows in the SERP and I have a Facebook and Twitter account linked, that I update regularly.   I have been a C++,Qt programmer for the last 3.5 years and have hit a plateau in terms of doing something new. Work has been repetitive and routine. I personally believe it is time to move on but off late I am getting more offers in mobile development like Android,Iphone etc. The latest offer I have is for objective-C based profile. I do not have the slightest idea about objective-C apart from that it is Object oriented C resembling C++ but not exactly a clone.   I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop but because I have a complete shortage of writable CDs and DVDs, I wan't to create a bootable USB stick (on Windows). However, the only USB stick I currently have lying around is my HTC phone (HTC Touch HD with 8Gb memory). I was following the Ubuntu guide to create a bootable usb stick with pendrivelinux, however in the last step it shows me that it wants to do more than just copying the .iso file to the USB drive: My question: can I safely proceed without wiping the current OS off my phone (Windows Mobile 6.1) and use it to install Ubuntu?

  so I have been learning java from Deitel's learn java 9th edition. I am up to GUI's and a have a pretty good grasp on OOP etc. I want to go straight to the mobile app development scene, I believe I will learn a fair bit there on using API's, and other tools to develop apps. I am not sure weather I should carry on with PC coding (GUI's etc etc) or skip it all and go direct to learning the Android SDK. So, should I carry on, learn about sockets, writing and reading files, GUI's for PC etc or get a book and jump into android? Thanks a lot guys.

  it's my first question on stack. Is it possible to infer length of the half angle vector for specular lighting from N·L and N·V without the whole view and light vectors? I may be completely off-track, but I have this gut feeling it's possible... Why? I'm working on a skin shader and I'm already doing one texture lookup with N·L+N·E and one texture lookup for specular with N·H+N·V. The latter one can be transformed into N·L+N·E lookup if only I had the half vector length. Doing so could simplify the shader a bit and move some operations into the pre-computed lookup texture. It would make a huge difference since I'm trying to squeeze as much functionality as possible to a single pass mobile version so instruction count matters. Thanks.

  We are using Geolocation (getCurrentPosition()) in a website to determine a users position when using our site from a mobile device. I want to write an article explaining how the user can obtain the best results. Am I correct in assuming: Enabling GPS will yield the best result when in rural areas (less buildings to obscure line of sight to the satelites) Enabling Wi-Fi will yield the best results when in urban areas (generally more Wi-Fi hotspots available) Is it true that Android phones have better results from silently harvesting Wi-Fi hotspot details? Any links to reference material on this are appreciated
