  Hi people, Is there a friendlier way to get an instance of FontMetrics than FontMetrics fm = Graphics.getFontMetrics(Font); I hate this way because of the following example: If you want to create in a game a menu and you want all the menuitems in the center of the screen you need fontmetrics. But, mostly, menuitems are clickable. So I create an array of Rectangles and all the rectangles fits around the items, so when the mouse is pressed, I can simply use for (int i = 0; i < rects.length; i++) if (rects[i].contains(mouseX, mouseY)) { ... } But to create the rects I also need FontMetrics for their coordinates. So this mean that I have to construct all my rectangles in the paint-method of my menu. So I want a way to get the FontMetrics so I can construct the Rectangles in a method called by the constructor. • Using a JSON web service from a Java client application

  I am developing a client-side Java application that has a bit of functionality that requires getting data from some web services that transmit in JSON (some RESTful, some not). No JavaScript, no web browser, just a plain JAR file that will run locally with Swing for the GUI. This is not a new or unique problem; surely there must be some open source libraries out there that will handle the JSON data transmission over HTTP. I've already found some that will parse JSON, but I'm having trouble finding any that will handle the HTTP communication to consume the JSON web service. So far I've found Apache Axis2 apparently which might have at least part of the solution, but I don't see enough documentation for it to know if it will do what I need, or how to use it. Maybe part of the problem is that I don't have experience with web services so I'm not able to know a solution when I see it. I hope some of you can point me in the right direction. Examples would be helpful.

• conditional while loop in php?

  I'm pretty sure there's an obvious answer for this-- hoping someone can help me-- I need to do a PHP while loop, but only if a variable is true. And I can't really put the while loop in an "if" statement, which seems like the obvious thing to do, since the code block is huge and it would be ugly and confusing. Do I need to break out the code in the loop into a function, or is there an easier way to deal with this? Here's the basic idea: if(condition){ while(another_condition){ //huge block of code loops many times } } else { // huge block of code runs once } I want the huge block of code to execute regardless of the state of the condition variable-- but only to execute once if condition is false, and execute for as long as another_condition is true if condition is true. Hope that's clear! The following code doesn't work, but gives an idea of what I want to accomplish: if(condition){ while(another_condition){ } // huge block of code if (condition){ } } // closes the while loop-- obviously throws an error though! thanks in advance.

  I would like to use GLUT 3.7 Window Toolkit in a program written in php because i saw that there was a binding in php. I am interesting in having multiple windows ! In order to have a clean code, i was wondering to separate on the one hand the window toolkit and on the other hand the OpenGL implementation. I hope that i can program event with the glut callbacks in php then the application get the events and can interacts ! But i don't know how to draw in each window from php with opengl ? They say in the man page that each glut window has an opengl context. How to get each context ? Can i render offscreen with each context ?

  Hi guys. I have a simple question for you (i hope) :) I have pretty much always used void as a "return" type when doing CRUD operations on data. Eg. Consider this code: public void Insert(IAuctionItem item) { if (item == null) { AuctionLogger.LogException(new ArgumentNullException("item is null")); } _dataStore.DataContext.AuctionItems.InsertOnSubmit((AuctionItem)item); _dataStore.DataContext.SubmitChanges(); } and then considen this code: public bool Insert(IAuctionItem item) { if (item == null) { AuctionLogger.LogException(new ArgumentNullException("item is null")); } _dataStore.DataContext.AuctionItems.InsertOnSubmit((AuctionItem)item); _dataStore.DataContext.SubmitChanges(); return true; } It actually just comes down to whether you should notify that something was inserted (and went well) or not ?

• MSSQL Sum query

  today my problem is this i have 2 column and i wish check if the sum of that columns isn't Higher then a value(485 for example) and if is do a query...i though to do SELECT * FROM table WHERE ColumnA+ColumnB<485 But isn't working... i've already tried with SELECT Sum(ColumnA)+Sum(ColumnB) AS Total FROM table but it gives me 1 column with the sum of all rows, i instead want a row for every sum. so how can i do..? xD i hope you understood if not just ask that i try to explain it better! and thanks in advice for who want to help me! EDIT: I Found out XD the problem was that the columns was Smallint and the result of 1 or more rows was more than 32k so it wasn't working! Thanks At all!!

  I have a problem setting the value of a textarea element with jquery's val(). Basically, I have a JSP file which receives a string parameter called 'text'. Java code: String text = (String) request.getParameter('text'); Now I want my textarea element to receive this text: Javascript code: $('#textarea_id').val('<%=text%>'); It works when my text doesnt contain quotes single quotes (and possibly other chars). For example, for text = test' this error happens: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token ILLEGAL $('#textarea_id').val('test''); I hope you guys understand. I need a way to encode this value... i tried using escape so the quote is replaced by %27, but after unescaping its replaced again and the error happens. Thanks!

My bigger problem his i could not understand exactly how the Import thing works... after the loader read the information he needs to do the import's thing, i believe he use the LoadLibrary, GetProcAddress APIs... but i couldn't understated what he doing with the pointers he get... he putting them somewhere in memory... and then what just call them?!? all the papers i found in the net explain the structure of the import table, but i didn't found a paper that explain how it is really work and get used... i hope you cold understand my Gibberish English... • Started with a local git repo now I want to push my changes to a remote server

  Hi, I started a new project and created a local git repo with "git init" and now I have a few branches and everything works great. However since my webhosting company offers git hosting (if you're curious https://support.eapps.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=203) I'd like to push my entire repo to their servers to have a backup in the cloud in case something bad happens to my local repo. • Can review changes in Acrobat Reader (Pro, or not) be 'applied' to a PDF?

  Hi there, As part of an enhancement to my workplace processes, we're trying to streamline review of various documents. Yeah, there's way better alternatives to what I'm about to suggest, but the reality is that I have no time allocated to investigate things like DAV, repo setups and such. What I do have time allocated for is improving workflow around tools we already use. So I tried to work through the Adobe PDF collaborative review cycle. I have to say it was pretty amazing, from the notify toolbar icon to doc merging, to user access control. They offer it all, EXCEPT the ability to actually apply review changes to a PDF!?! To clarify, after sending a PDF through the collab review cycle (involving a bunch for external editors and internal staff) the end result was a PDF full of rich feedback - but I can see no way to finalised and apply those 'accepted' review points to the PDF in question. I hope this is clear enough, feel free to ask questions to clarify - perhaps I'm just missing something obvious, but perhaps applying changes to an already existing PDF is not possible? -d

But after running my program on event onclick the alert dialog box opens and allows filling information in it. and then on click of ok button alert dialog if condition is matched than data will be submitted and intent will pass otherwise in toast msg it will show something like enter correct password or loginid etc. but when on second click of button on which I have set alertdialogbox the thread msg will appear and it will close the program so what is the solution for this. Notice that the first and second objects in the array are complete duplicates. Aside from the obvious solution of switching to PostgresSQL, what MongoDB query can I run to remove duplicate entries from foo_list? Similar answers that do not quite cut it: http://stackoverflow.com/a/16907596/432 http://stackoverflow.com/a/18804460/432 These questions answer the question if the array had bare strings in it. However in my situation the array is filled with objects. I hope it is clear that I am not interested in a query; I want the duplicates to be gone from the database forever.

  Hi all, Basically what I'm trying to achieve is a program which allow users to connect to a each other over a network in, essentially, a chat room. What I'm currently struggling with is writing the code so that the users can connect to each other without knowing the IP-address of the computer that the other users are using or knowing the IP-address of a server. Does anyone know of a way in which I could simply have all of the users scan the IP range of my network in order to find any active 'room' and then give the user a chance to connect to it? Also, the hope is that there will be no need for a central server to run this from, rather every user will simply be connected to all other user, essentially being the server and client at the same time.

  Hello, I am looking for a way to get words out of a sentence. I am pretty far with the following expression: \b([a-zA-Z]+?)\b but there are some occurrences that it counts a word when I want it not to. E.g a word followed by more than one period like "text..". So, in my regex I want to have the period to be at the end of a word zero or one time. Inserting .? did not do the trick, and variations on this have not yielded anything fruitful either. Hope someone can help!

I have two machines A and B: A: Client (behind NAT) B: Server (behind NAT) I want B to be able to listen on any given port, so that A can send packets to B through that specific TCP port and receive any response. If both machines are not behind a NAT it is pretty straight foward process. However how do I make it work so that it works even when B is behind a router, without him having to go change the router configuration enable some port forwarding etc...   Based on my reading and testing, with asynchronous sockets, the socket itself can be passed using state object (IAsyncResult result), also if store the socket as a private field, it would be captured by the callback methods. I am wondering how the IAysnResult is kepted between the BeginXXX and ReceiveXXX? It looks to me that after the BeginXXX call and the method ends, the state object would be disposed by GC if there is no reference to it. In the case of private field, how the private field is shared between threads? (As far as I know, a callback is executed using a thread from the default thread pool, which would be considered as a new thread.) Many thanks, hope the questions themselves are clear.
