  • How to run a long task in backgroung in iOS applications?

    I am developing an application which requires running a task in background. I am trying this by calling a method which will retrieve(download) data from web server through web services. this method will call some more methods which are in different view controller classes. Here when I tap on home button of device, the method is calling but no further execution of the remaining code.   • Call AppDelegate Method from Class

    Basically, I need to call a method in my AppDelegate from one of my view controller classes. Currently, I'm doing the following: myAppDelegate *appDelegate = (myAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [appDelegate doMethod]; And including the myAppDelegate.h at the top of the .m file of the class: #import "myAppDelegate.h" When I run it, everything works... But I get the following warning: warning 'myAppDelegate' may not respond to '-doMethod' Is there another way that I should reference the app delegate? Thanks for any help in advance.

  • "Warning reaching end of non-void fuction" with Multiple Sections that pull in multiple CustomCells

    I'm getting "Reaching end of non-void function" warning, but don't have anything else to return for the compiler. How do I get around the warning?? I'm using customCells to display a table with 3 Sections. Each CustomCell is different, linked with another viewcontroller's tableview within the App, and is getting its data from its individual model. Everything works great in the Simulator and Devices, but I would like to get rid of the warning that I have. It is the only one I have, and it is pending me from uploading to App Store!! Within the - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {, I have used 3 separate If() statements-(i.e.==0,==1,==2) to control which customCells are displayed within each section throughout the tableview's cells. Each of the customCells were created in IB, pull there data from different models, and are used with other ViewController tableViews. At the end of the function, I don't have a "cell" or anything else to return, because I already specified which CustomCell to return within each of the If() statements. Because each of the CustomCells are referenced through the AppDelegate, I can not set up an empty cell at the start of the function and just set the empty cell equal to the desired CustomCell within each of the If() statements, as you can for text, labels, etc... My question is not a matter of fixing code within the If() statements, unless it is required. My Questions is in "How to remove the warning for reaching end of non-void function-(cellForRowAtIndexPath:) when I have already returned a value for every possible case: if(section == 0); if(section == 1); and if(section == 2). *Code-Reference: The actual file names were knocked down for simplicity, (section 0 refers to M's, section 1 refers to D's, and section 2 refers to B's).   • In cocos2D how to write a selector for a sprite.

    Hello, I got problem in cocos2D application. I have a sprite and text in one screen. The text should be able to move up/down when we swipe. And when we select on the sprite it should take to next scene. So, both should have the istouchEnabled to YES. But text should take the touchesMoved and sprite should take touchesEnded. But my problem is either one is working. If am able to swipe the text, I am not able to select the sprite.( touchesEnded for sprite is not called). Please guide me, I am stuck here.

  • UIAlertView Will not show

    I have a program that is requesting a JSON string. I have created a class that contains the connect method below. When the root view is coming up, it does a request to this class and method to load up some data for the root view. When I test the error code (by changing the URL host to 127.0.0.1), I expect the Alert to show. Behavior is that the root view just goes black, and the app aborts with no alert. No errors in debug mode on the console, either. Any thoughts as to this behavior? I've been looking around for hints to this for hours to no avail. Thanks in advance for your help.   • Detecting when a cell's detail-disclosure button has been clicked (when using a custom cell XIB)

It appears to work... but I think I would do better to actually UNDERSTAND what is being done there. Why isn't line #3 assigning the value TO something? cell = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"TVCell" owner:self options:nil]; (In fact, cell and tvCell aren't being used at all.) Why is line #4 assigning using tvCell when nothing has been put it in at all, yet? Why is line #5 nulling out the tvCell that I need? Why is "@property (nonatomic, assign) IBOutlet UITableViewCell *tvCell;" using assign, not retain? About the only thing I can't get working correctly is when I put a disclosure-button on my custom cell XIB. Is there a way for me to detect when the user has clicked on it? (Hopefully, without using 100s of TAGs.)

    I have an edit view in my app which is a instance of UITableViewController and contains one cell with a textfield in a grouped table. At the moment this cell is at the top of the screen and is firstResponder so they keyboard is visible as well. But in all the Apples apps like the Contacts App when you edit a piece of information like an Email it buts both of its rows in the middle between the Nav Bar and the Keyboard not at the top of the screen.     I have created a main page (myAppViewController) and a add page rect button I have also created a page template (TemplateAViewController) all set up in Interface builder. I would like users to be able to add as many templates themselves and then page through them. I am not sure where to start. I can create views programmatic like so -(IBAction)createnewpage : (id) sender { myAppViewController *viewcontroller = [[myAppViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TemplateAViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [[self view] addSubview:viewcontroller.view]; } I then want to be able to navigate through these views- I guess I need to create a navigation controller to do this ?

  • opening iWorks documents in iPad UIWebView

    Hello, I'm writing an iPad application that has a UIWebView which I open word and excel documents in, but I want the user to be able to import those documents into the iWorks applications, Pages and Numbers, just like how you can do it in Safari if you open a document. If you open a document in Safari on the iPad, there'll be a button on the top bar that says "Open in..." and you can choose applications to open in. You get the top bar to appear by tapping on middle of the page. So is there an option you can set to allow UIWebView to show up the bar and automatically detect the content type and populate the list with applications you can import in? Or do I have to build this myself? And if I have to build my own, how do I open URLs to import documents into Pages and Numbers etc? Thanks, -David

  • jqtouch - panels appear on page, class="back" not working in Safari

    I'm trying to get a demo working that was used in J. Stark's webinar on Safari Books Online (still available for viewing). I think I've followed the code example correctly, but the class="back" objects used to return from the "blog", "contacts", "settings" and "about" panels do not work, though the correct address shows in the nav area at the base of the browser window when I hover the mouse over the respective link. The panels-- which should slide in and out when called by their respective class"arrow" elements-- appear on the main page, nor do they animate correctly. Browser is Safari 5.0.3(6533.19.4); jquery-1.3.2; jqtouch freshly downloaded from the jqt website. Obviously I'm missing something simple. Sat 8 January 2011: 1 48 AM UPDATE in response to JS's comments: Most humble thanks for your note. Didn't want to impose on your server, so the URL for jqtouch.min.css points to a version on my server @ fastermac.net. There's something further amiss, I believe. On load, page still shows the elements that should be invisible until called by clicking class="arrow" elements. Animations not yet wiggling. Did get them to wiggle at one point, but "flip," for instance, landed then on a black page-- not the targeted panel. Probably something obvious, but I'm missing it after some considerable due diligence. Again, thanks for your note. Any further illumination would be sincerely appreciated.

    I'm trying to find the user's location using: CLLocationCoordinate2D _location; CLLocation *userLoc = nil; if(appDelegate.clLocationManager.locationServicesEnabled){ userLoc = mapView.userLocation.location; _location = userLoc.coordinate; } The problem is that I haven't yet initialized the map so the above doesn't work. Is there a way to get the user's location without using mapkit? Or should I be using a different technique?

The event methods touchesEnded and touchesCancelled are only fired when the event is cancelled or the finger lifted. I would like to know when a touch has stopped moving, even while it is still touching the screen.

  • Displaying a "Loading..." screen in a UITableView like the AppStore App...

    the App Store app and fairly a lot many apps display a view that says "Loading.." while the content is being retrieved. How can we do this? Should I remove the UITableView and call addSubView and then once the data is available, add the tableview back? Or is there any other shortcut?
