• python: find and replace numbers < 1 in text file

  I'm pretty new to Python programming and would appreciate some help to a problem I have... Basically I have multiple text files which contain velocity values as such: 0.259515E+03 0.235095E+03 0.208262E+03 0.230223E+03 0.267333E+03 0.217889E+03 0.156233E+03 0.144876E+03 0.136187E+03 0.137865E+00 etc for many lines... What I need to do is convert all the values in the text file that are less than 1 (e.g. 0.137865E+00 above) to an arbitrary value of 0.100000E+01. While it seems pretty simple to replace specific values with the 'replace()' method and a while loop, how do you do this if you want to replace a range? thanks

  Ok, i have a problem here... I am sending values of drop down lists via ajax to this PHP file. Now I want to search a mysql database using these values, which I have managed to do, BUT, only if I set the values to something... Take a look: $query = "SELECT * FROM cars_db WHERE price BETWEEN '$cars_price_from' AND '$cars_price_to' AND year BETWEEN '$cars_year_from' AND '$cars_year_to' AND mileage BETWEEN '$cars_mileage_from' AND '$cars_mileage_to' AND gearbox = '$cars_gearbox' AND fuel = '$cars_fuel'"; now, what if the user doesnt select any "price_from" or "year_from"... The fields are only optional, so if the user doesnt enter any "price from" or "year from", then the user wants ALL cars to show... Do I have to write a query statement for each case or is there another way?

  Say I want to create an array of pixel values to pass into the createBitmap method described here. I have three int values r, g, b in the range 0 - 0xff. How do I transform those into a opaque pixel p? Does the alpha channel go in the high byte or the low byte? I googled up the documentation but it only states that: Each pixel is stored on 4 bytes. Each channel (RGB and alpha for translucency) is stored with 8 bits of precision (256 possible values.) This configuration is very flexible and offers the best quality.   I've got two (or more) arrays with 12 integers in each (corresponding to values for each month). All I want is to add them together so that I've got a single array with summed values for each month. Here's an example with three values: [1,2,3] and [4,5,6] = [5,7,9] The best I could come up with was: [[1,2,3],[4,5,6]].transpose.map{|arr| arr.inject{|sum, element| sum+element}} #=> [5,7,9] Is there a better way of doing this? It just seems such a basic thing to want to do.

  Let's assume we have two collections: List<double> values List<SomePoint> points where SomePoint is a type containing three coordinates of the point: SomePoint { double X; double Y; double Z; } Now, I would like to perform the intersection between these two collections to find out for which points in points the z coordinate is eqal to one of the elements of values I created something like that: HashSet<double> hash = new HashSet<double>(points.Select(p=>p.Z)); hash.IntersectWith(values); var result = new List<SomePoints>(); foreach(var h in hash) result.Add(points.Find(p => p.Z == h)); But it won't return these points for which there is the same Z value, but different X and Y. Is there any better way to do it?

  Hi all, I am creating dynamic label and textbox based on the number of values from the database for the selected item of the dropdownlist. Then the dynamic labels will have the names and the text box with the values. To retain the values of these controls im using Page_init event. So im using cache to hold the selectteditem from the dropdownlist. Problem: The process is going fine. But if i try to refresh the page no items are selected in the dropdown list but the cache is not getting clear so using this cache value dynamic control are creating. Geetha

  I'm a python newbie so I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before. I am building out an application in GAE and need to generate a report that contains the values for a user-defined subset of fields. For example, in my db model, CrashReport, I have the following fields: entry_type entry_date instance_id build_id crash_text machine_info I present a user with the above list as a checkbox group from which they select. Whichever fields the user selects, I then create a report showing all the values in the datastore, but only for the fields that they selected. For example, if from the above list, the user selects the build_id and crash_text fields, the output might look like this: build_id crash_text 0.8.2 blown gasket 0.8.2 boom! 0.8.1 crack! ... So the question is, how exactly do I only access the values for the fields which the user has defined?

• Drupal Views: Render Null Result for Relationship as 0

  I have a View configured in Drupal to return nodes, sorting them by their average vote in descending order. For the purpose of the View, the value of the average votes is a Relationship. I noticed that nodes with no votes are displayed after nodes with a negative average. Nodes with no votes should have an average of 0, but I believe the MySQL JOIN is causing NULL values to be returned (as there are no matching rows in the joined table, since a row is created after the first vote is cast for that item). I discovered that with MySQL it is possible to output all values that are NULL in a column as another value with IFNULL(column_name,'other value'). I feel like I would need to modify the Views module in order to obtain this functionality, but I'm hoping that there is some sort of option that returns NULL values in a relation (a relation doesn't exist for the item) as 0 instead of NULL, so that I can properly sort the nodes. The modules I am using include Views, Voting API, Vote Up/Down, and CTools. Thanks.

  I'm hoping for an idea on the best way to approach what I'm trying to do. I have a table with a list of transactions. Each transactions has a PostDate in DateTime format. I have another table holding the fiscal period values. This table has the following columns; FiscalYear, FiscalMonth, StartDate, EndDate. I'm trying to write a query that will return all values from my transactions table, along with the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth of the PostDate. So I guess I'm just trying to return the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth values when the PostDate falls between the StartDate and EndDate. I've tried using a Subbuery, but I have little experience with them and kept returning an error message that the subquery was returning more than 1 value. • jQuery slider - set background color to show desired range

  Howdy, I'm setting up a Filament Group jQuery UI slider and using it in a gradebook. We need to allow teachers to set a desired background range (to show the desirable values vs. the actual value for a given grade). I'm hoping to set a shaded area (as shown in this picture) that would indicate to people viewing the slider which values are desirable. If the handle is within the desired ranges, then the value is satisfactory. If the handle is out of the background shaded range, then some changes may need to happen. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? Based on what I've experimented with using Firebug, it looks like a <div class="ui-slider"> is setup, but the values inside of it don't seem to allow setting background-colors (only the div allows for that). • Split a sting array into a number array in javascript

  I am reading a value from a dropdown list depending on what option is selected. I am using jqPlot to graph the values. jqPlot expects an array of values like [91, 6, 2, 57, 29, 40, 95] but when I read the value in from the dropdown box it is coming in as a whole string "[91, 6, 2, 57, 29, 40, 95]" I tried splitting it but I got ["91", "6", "2", "57", "29", "40", "95"] which wont display the graph correctly. Is there anybody that has encountered something like this before and what can I do to make my values convert into a number array. Thanks for any help

• When using out parameters in a function, is it good practice to initialize them in the function?

  I have a function that uses out parameters to return multiple values to the caller. I would like to initialize them in the function, but I wasn't sure if that's a bad idea since you don't know when you call the function that it's going to change the values right away. The caller might assume that after the function returns, if whatever it was doing didn't work, the values would be whatever they were initialized to in the caller. Is it ok / good for me to initialize in the function?   Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is a way (in MATLAB) to check whether a certain value is equal to any of the values stored within another array? The way I intend to use it is to check whether an element index in one matrix is equal to the values stored in another array (where the stored values are the indexes of the elements which meet a certain criteria). So, if the indices of the elements which meet the criteria are stored in the matrix below: criteriacheck = [3 5 6 8 20]; Going through the main array (called array) & checking if the index matches: for i = 1:numel(array) if i == 'Any value stored in criteriacheck' ...   I have an array of addresses that point to integers ( these integers are sorted in ascending order). They have duplicate values. Ex: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4...... I am trying to get hold of all the values that are greater than a certain value(key). Currently trying to implement it using binary search algo - void *bsearch( const void *key, const void *base, size_t num, size_t width, int ( __cdecl *compare ) ( const void *, const void *) ); I am not able to achieve this completely, but for some of them. Would there be any other way to get hold of all the values of the array, with out changing the algorithm I am using?

  I have a ArrayList returned from a service which contains date-timestamp as String values (with values: 2010-05-06T23:38:18,2010-05-06T23:32:52,2010-04-28T18:23:06,2010-04-27T20:34:02,2010-04-27T20:37:02) to be more specific, This is part of a parent ArrayList ObjectHistory. This list contains the datestamp and serial number. I need to pick the correct serial number. Objecthistory is the List object and I need to get the latest timestamp within this ObjectHistory. I need to pick the latest timestamp from this Arraylist in Java 6. How should I be doing this? Should I do convert these values into calendar-time? I am in panic mode as this has to be done directly in production.

  Hi, I have 2 textboxes and a label on my page. The 2 textboxes will contain numeric values. The label text will be the product of the 2 textbox values. Is there a way to do this using JQuery so that the value can get updated without having to do a postback? Also the textboxes may contain values with commas in it: e.g. 10,000. • Are instance initializers good or bad?

  I personally quite like instance initializers - I use them to assign default values to things such as collections so when writing constructors I don't have to remember to assign them the same default values each time. It seems quite elegant to me - avoids annoying NPE's popping up and avoids duplicate code. A private method doesn't seem as nice because a) it can't assign values to final fields, b) it could be run elsewhere in code and c) the method still needs to be explicitly called at the start of each constructor. However, the flip side with others I have spoken to is that they're confusing, some people reading the code might not understand what they do or when they're called and thus they could cause more problems than they solve. Are proper use of these initializers something to be encouraged or avoided? Or is it an "each to their own" case?
