  I have to develop a specialised report editor in Java. The user will get a number of fields that can be layed out on a page plus some graphical elements. The resulting report design needs to be serialized into already defined database tables. Is there any software library that will help to achieve this without reinventing the wheel? I have come across Eclipse GEF and Zest, but I am not sure if this really meets my problem.

Consider these 4 tables: Object: (oid, name) contains: [1, 'Licence'] and [2, 'Exemption'] Licence: (lid, name) Exemption: (eid, name) Cost: (oid, oid_ref, cost_oid, cost_oid_ref) For: P = Licence with lid [1] R = Exemption with eid [2] i can say "object P is a parent to object R" if the following Cost record exists: [oid: 2 oid_ref: 2 cost_oid: 1 cost_oid_ref: 1] I understand that this creates somesort of 'conditional foreign key' relation which I need to define in code. Is it possible to have the nested set loaded with these conditions?

The Officer table doesn't give me the number of officers per account. I need to retrieve only the accounts that have more than 20 officers. Should I use the COUNT ? If so, how ? Employers: Name nvarchar(50), Job Title nvarchar(50) I would like to select every item from the 'Employers' table where 'Job Title' does NOT show up in the 'Employees' table. • How do I get ELMAH to work with SQL Server (permission problems)

  I've got ELMAH working on my (Cassini) development server, and was quite happy with it, but now that I'm trying to move everything to my production server (IIS7), the honeymoon looks like being over. I've got past the "gotcha" with IIS7, which frankly could have been better highlighted in the documentation, and if I just use the in-memory log then it works. However, I'm trying to get it to use the SQL Server log (as I do on my development system), and I'm getting an error along the lines of: The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object ELMAH_GetErrorsXml Well, fine. I know how to grant database permissions, but I'm really struggling to understand which user and which stored procs/tables I need to grant access to. The thing that's really confusing me is that I didn't have to do anything like this to get it to work on my development server. The only difference I can see is that on my development server it seems to connect as NT AUTHORITY\IUSR, whereas on my production server it seems to connect as NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE. (It's just using a trusted connection so I've not explicitly configured it to do that - I presume it's to do with the web server). UPDATE: I've since established that because I'm using Cassini, it was actually logging in as me (an admin) and not IUSR, which explains why I didn't get any permission problems. On my development server, the IUSR account is a member of the public database role, and has access to the required database (again as "public"). There's no explicit granting of object-level permissions. [See update above - this is irrelevant]. On my production server, I've added NETWORK SERVICE in exactly the same way (public database role, explicit access to the database as "public"). Yet, I get this permission error. Why?!! [See update above - the only reason I don't get a permission error is because I'm running as an admin]. And, of course, if the fact that it works locally is just "luck", I will need to know which SPs/tables to grant access to. My guess would be all 3 SPs and not the table, but it would be good (again) to see some documentation that makes this explicit.

Is this possible? I've looked in to @SecondaryTable together with @JoinColumn and @OneToMany, but neither of those can do the trick, or i am overlooking something. Can someone help me?   Hi, I have two tables: Contact (id,name) Link (id, contact_id, source_id) I have the following query which works that returns the contacts with the source_id of 8 in the Link table. SELECT name FROM `Contact` LEFT JOIN Link ON Link.contact_id = Contact.id WHERE Link.source_id=8; However I am a little stumped on how to return a list of all the contacts which are NOT associated with source_id of 8. A simple != will not work as contacts without any links are not returned. Thanks.

Is there a way for me to manually set the connection the Linq-to-SQL (.dbml) uses? The way I'm doing things now is creating the .dbml file, and in the graphic designer I'm dragging tables from the Server Explorer to the white board of the .dbml.

  I'm trying to dynamically generate a report in a table where the borders are different on each side of a cell or row, but can't figure out how. The TableRow, TableCell, and Table objects each have a BorderStyle property, but it seems to apply to the entire border rather than just one side. Can this be done without nesting tables? For my case, I'd like a solid border around the first two rows of a table (because the first row has a cell spanning two rows), and a solid border around each subsequent row.
