  • Updating a specific key/value inside of an array field with MongoDB

    As a preface, I've been working with MongoDB for about a week now, so this may turn out to be a pretty simple answer. I have data already stored in my collection, we will call this collection content, as it contains articles, news, etc. Each of these articles contains another array called author which has all of the author's information (Address, Phone, Title, etc). The Goal - I am trying to create a query that will update the author's address on every article that the specific author exists in, and only the specified author block (not others that exist within the array). Sort of a "Global Update" to a specific article that affects his/her information on every piece of content that exists. I thought I was on the right track, and here's what I've tried. b.content.update( {authors: {$elemMatch: {slug: 'joe-somebody'} } }, {$set: {address: '1234 Avenue Rd.'} }, false, true ); I just believe there's something I am missing in the $set statement to specify the correct author and point inside of the correct array. This actually works fine. The problem is this $("fieldset input").each(function (index, item) { $(item).attr("disabled", true); }); never runs. The fieldset tag is in the response, so you don't see it here but it's there - everything is returned back fine (I checked with Firebug). Why do the above two lines of JS never run or have any effect?

    Hey What I want to do is to include one of my PHP scripts in a Word Press theme. The problem is that after I include the script file I can't access, inside functions in the theme file, variables declared in the script file . I have created a new file in the theme folder and added the same code as in header.php and if I open that file it works just fine.   • Discussion on SEO best-practices for site development involving php...

    Recently in our work, I've started getting some experience with SEO (finally). It's something I've put off for a long time because I've always maintained that SEO is a buzz-word b.s. pseudo-science and more about providing quality, relevant content (assuming proper header tags and the basics are covered). However, sometimes a client doesn't have stellar content yet still demands SEO and high rankings. While it's not how I design sites 100% of the time (as design dictates structure), I typically create a basic template from the design my boss gives me, then I optimize it, and then strip the top and bottom and move those to header.php and footer.php, using the following to bring in the header and footer based on AJAX versus HTML requests: <?php if($_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']==''){ include('includes/header.php'); }?> #content here <?php if($_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']==''){ include('includes/footer.php'); }?> Then, I use jQuery to intercept page requests and I use AJAX to fill in, for example, a #copy div with the new content. This avoids unnecessarily loading all the header and footer info everytime, but still allows users without Java to access pages without any problems. (also to think about, depending on size of content, do the extra http requests added using this method render it more of a server strain versus a single, larger file?) I don't have a really solid understanding of the meta keywords and their SEO significance, but as I recall reading, the keywords, title, and description on a page should match up to the pages content--ie. each page should have slightly different keywords/description while retaining some common ground. What I'm getting at here is trying to foster a discussion on whether my approach is flawed to begin with, if there are things I can do (within reason) that keep the site structure simple but allow for better SEO practices, or if my SEO understandings are wrong. This isn't a question, per say, but hopefully a constructive discussion here that more than just I can learn from. I appreciate any responses and hope to hear from you. Thanks!

  • putting <%=yield %> in a partial for ajax jquery calls

    I would like to use Google Website Optimizer (GWO)'s multivariate tests to test some different versions of a web page. I can change from version to version just by varying some class tags on a div, i.e. the different versions are of this form: <div id="testing" class="foo1 bar1">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo1 bar2">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo2 bar1">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo2 bar2">content</div> In the ideal, I would be able to use GWO section code in place of each class, and google would just swap in the appropriate tags (foo1 or foo2, bar1 or bar2). However, naively doing this results in horribly malformed code because I would be trying to put <script> tags inside the div's class attribute: <div id="testing" class=" <script>utmx_section("foo-class")</script>foo1</noscript> <script>utmx_section("bar-class")</script>bar1</noscript> "> content </div> And indeed, the browser chokes all over it. My current best approach is just to use a different div for each variable in the test, as follows: <script>utmx_section("foo-class-div")</script> <div class="foo1"> </noscript> <script>utmx_section("bar-class-div")</script> <div class="bar1"> </noscript> content </div> </div> So testing multiple variables requires layer of div-nesting per variable, and it all seems rather awkward.   • Dynamically adding controls from an Event after Page_Init

    Might seem like a daft title as you shouldn't add dynamic controls after Page_Init if you want to maintain ViewState, but I couldn't think of a better way of explaining the problem. I have a class similar to the following: public class WebCustomForm : WebControl, IScriptControl { internal CustomRender Content { get { object content = this.Page.Session[this.SESSION_CONTENT_TRACKER]; return content as CustomRender; } private set { this.Page.Session[this.SESSION_CONTENT_TRACKER] = value; } } } CustomRender is an abstract class that implements ITemplate that I use to self-contain a CustomForms module I'm in the middle of writing. On the Page_Init of the page that holds the WebCustomForm, I Initialise the control by passing the relevant Ids to it. Then on the overridden OnInit method of the WebCustomForm I call the Instantiate the CustomRender control that's currently active: if (this.Content != null) { this.Content.InstantiateIn(this); } The problem is that my CustomRender controls need the ability to change the CustomRender control of the WebCustomForm. But when the events that fire on the CustomRender fire, the Page_Init event has obviously already gone off. So, my question is, how can I change the content of the WebCustomForm from a dynamically added control within it? The way I see it, I have two options: I separate the CustomRender controls out into their own stand alone control and basically have an aspx page per control and handle the events myself on the page (although I was hoping to just make a control I drop on the page and forget about) I don't use events and just keep requesting the current page, but with different Request Parameters Or I go back to the drawing board with any better suggetions anyone can give me.

  • Jquery / PHP - pre-loading next page before navigating to it.

    Hey all Using jQuery, is there a way to prevent going to the next page until the animation has finished AND the next page has completely loaded (including images)? The code below works but it is a bit clunky. You can see what I am trying to achieve here: http://bit.ly/aOeYgE The first three or so pages work. But when you click to go to the homepage a few times (after it's cached) you will see that it jumps, and the animation isn't very smooth. As you can see with the code below, the height is immediately set to 0, then when the page has loaded the height is set to 500px.   • Is there a tool for managing redundant pages across a website?

    I am in charge of constructing a website with a '2-dimensional' site map, as explained later. I am looking for (preferably a Wordpress plugin, as the site is built in Wordpress already) that would make managing thousands of pages a lot easier. To explain further, let me iterate my situation. I am building a website for a construction company, and they have several key cities and several key services. Now, they want a parent page for each service, and another unique page for the child sub-service, and finaly, a grandchild page for the city they are performing the service in. For example, if they were doing Concrete Construction in Los Angeles, the URL would look like: /concrete/construction/los-angeles The content on /los-angeles would be the same as on /malibu, or /burbank. However, there would be a different set of content for /concrete/design/los-angeles, but the entire page content (sans a few variables with city names) would be the same. Is there a way to manage or automate 'matrixing' this information on the site? I am looking for a tool that would allow me to easily add a 'city' with the same content across all grandchildren, per the child's content requirements. All of the grandchildren pages will have redundant content across them. Should something like this not exist, how difficult would it be to create, as a freelance side project? I need a tool like this, because I am approaching about ~500 cities and 50 services (Concrete Construction, Concrete Design, Concrete Engineering, etc)

    I have a Flash website template (four pages) that I made using AS 3.0 and Flash CS4. It is for an assignment involving movie clips. Currently on the main time line there is only one frame, and three layers: actions/menu/content. The actionscript on the main time line is simply: content_mc.stop (); There is a movie clip on the stage called “Content” that contains the content for each of the pages. Inside of that there is a “Menu” movie clip that contains and controls all of the navigation buttons. Here is the feedback from my instructor: “While we learned how to control the main timeline and the timeline of another movie clip from within a movie clip, this is not the most intuitive way to script and makes for difficult debugging. Although when I load the URL myself I clearly see those set in the meta tags.     This is the case when it "works on my machine". Except that my machine is Windows, and the target is some sort of Linux. The idea is that the mail() function puts a newline between the MIME-Version and Content-Type headers, thus breaking the whole thing.   • Why is search functionality not working on this page?

    we deliver micro-site content for our client. Our content is injected into a wrapper that is supplied by another developer. To deliver our content we host the wrapper as well as the content. The user can access this at http://fundcentre.newireland.ie/ (try a search for 'bloxham') For the other content that is not ours, the other developer hosts a similar (though slightly different) wrapper and delivers the content. the user accesses this here: http://www.newireland.ie/ (try a search for 'bloxham') The wrapper contains a search box, which does not work for us but it works for the other developer. I took a look at the network traffic with FireBug but it appears that when I do the search from the wrapper that we're hosting, I'm getting a "407 Proxy Access Denied" error. My guess is their proxy has a problem with the fact that the search is being conducted from a page hosted outside the scope of their proxy. It was also suggested that there were javascript errors on the page that were preventing the search from executing but I can't see any. Also, I don't think I'd get as far as the proxy error if that was the case. I don't really understand this stuff too well though, so could somebody with a bit more experience please take a look and maybe shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

    Hello, I am using Castle.Windsor as an IOC. So I am trying to resolve a service type in the constructor of an HTTPHandler. I keep receiving this error, "Constructor on type: "Namespace.type" not found." My configuration has the following entries for service type: IDocumentDirectory <component id="restricted.content.directory" service="org.healthwise.foundations.services.content.IDocumentDirectory, org.healthwise.foundations.services" type="org.healthwise.foundations.services.content.RestrictedLocalizationDocumentDirectory, org.healthwise.foundations.services"> <parameters> <contentDirectory>${content.directory}</contentDirectory> <localizations> <array> <item>en-us</item> <item>es-us</item> </array> </localizations> </parameters> </component> <component id="content.directory" service="org.healthwise.foundations.services.content.IDocumentDirectory, org.healthwise.foundations.services" type="org.healthwise.foundations.services.web.client.WebServiceDocumentDirectory, org.healthwise.foundations.services.web.client"> <parameters> <webServiceURL>#{contentDirectoryWebsiteUrl}</webServiceURL> </parameters> </component> In my new handler the constructor looks like this: public HeartBeatHttpHandler(IDocumentDirectory contentDirectory) { _contentDirectory = contentDirectory; } I have never recieved this error using Castle.Windsor.   • jQuery prevAll displaying text in backward ordering

    hi all, I'm trying to use jQuery to get all the paragraphs before the first h2 tag in my content. Here's the code I'm using: $(".content").find("h2:first").prevAll().text() Which is grabbing the content, although it's displaying it in backwards order. Example content: <div class="content"> <p>paragraph 1</p> <p>paragraph 2</p> <p>paragraph 3</p> <h2>First h2 tag</h2> <p>paragraph 4</p> <p>paragraph 5</p> <p>paragraph 6</p> <h2>Second h2 tag</h2> </div> The above code is outputting: <p>paragraph 3</p> <p>paragraph 2</p> <p>paragraph 1</p> Is there any way of reversing this, so it's in the correct order? I have tried using nextAll using different codes, but it seems to grab all of my content, or not work at all lol

    I'm trying to make a grid based on a UniformGrid to show the coordinates of each cell, and I want to show the values on the X and Y axes like so: _A_ _B_ _C_ _D_ 1 |___|___|___|___| 2 |___|___|___|___| 3 |___|___|___|___| 4 |___|___|___|___| Anyway, in order to do that I need to know the number of columns and rows in the Uniform grid, and I tried overriding the 3 most basic methods where the arrangement / drawing happens, but the columns and rows in there are 0, even though I have some controls in my grid. What method can I override so my Cartesian grid knows how many columns and rows it has?
