• Jenkins projects not visible even though user has all privleges

  We want to lock down Jenkins and specific jobs to certain personnel. I have my account with all global privileges granted with project based matrix security. A coworker has a similar account and has been granted all the same privileges. When I log in with my account, I can see all of the projects we have setup. When my coworker whom has the exact same privileges logs in, none of the projects are visible. I've double and triple checked the permissions matrix to make sure we have the same global privileges; we do. Some of the projects have project specific privileges setup as well, but again; I've confirmed that both of us have the same access to these projects as well. So why can I see all the projects and my coworker is unable to see any of the projects?

• Google suddenly only indexes https and not http

  So all of a sudden, searches for our site "radiotuna" give out the result as an HTTPS link. https://www.google.com/?q=radiotuna#hl=en&safe=off&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=radiotuna&oq=radiotuna&gs_l=hp.12...0.0.0.3499.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0..0.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.LnOvBvgDOBk&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=177c7ff705652ec3&biw=1366&bih=602 We only use https for the download of two specific files (these urls are resources used for autoupdate functionality of an app we distribute). All other parts of the site should be served over http. We wouldn't like to see any other traffic over https, nor any of our site links to appear in search engines as https. I'd like to address this issue. It seems that the following solutions are available: hand out an https specific robots.txt as such: User-agent: * Disallow: / and/or at app-level, 301 permanent redirect all requests (except the two above) to HTTP if they come in as HTTPS. My concern with the robots method is that, say (for some reason) google decided not to index http pages, disallowing https pages might mean that google has nothing left to index with disastrous consequences for our ranking. This means I'm inclined to go with a 301 redirect. Any thoughts?

CENTOS: eth0: ip: 192.168.1.2 bcast: 192.168.1.255 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 I basically want this: Make specific NAT rules from the internet to specific internal servers depending on the port: Connections incoming to port 80 must be redirected to 192.168.1.2:80 Connections incoming to port 3306 must be redirected to 192.168.1.3:3306 and so on... I also need one NAT rule to allow the servers in the subnet 192.168.1.x to browse the internet. I need to route the requests on eth0 to eth1 to be able to exit to internet. Can I do this on the UBUNTU machine with iptables? Thanks!

• Programming languages with a Lisp-like syntax extension mechanism

  I have only a limited knowledge of Lisp (trying to learn a bit in my free time) but as far as I understand Lisp macros allow to introduce new language constructs and syntax by describing them in Lisp itself. This means that a new construct can be added as a library, without changing the Lisp compiler / interpreter. This approach is very different from that of other programming languages. E.g., if I wanted to extend Pascal with a new kind of loop or some particular idiom I would have to extend the syntax and semantics of the language and then implement that new feature in the compiler. Are there other programming languages outside the Lisp family (i.e. apart from Common Lisp, Scheme, Clojure (?), Racket (?), etc) that offer a similar possibility to extend the language within the language itself? EDIT Please, avoid extended discussion and be specific in your answers. Instead of a long list of programming languages that can be extended in some way or another, I would like to understand from a conceptual point of view what is specific to Lisp macros as an extension mechanism, and which non-Lisp programming languages offer some concept that is close to them.

• How to implement a no-login authentication system

  I am looking to build a very loose authentication system that can track a user and link submitted data/comments to a specific user. The submissions are essentially anonymous, but a user may want to edit his submission/comment at a later date. I want the experience to be as smooth as possible so do not want to ask users to sign up for an account and then login each time. There is no point as their submissions are not in their name and to another user browsing the site, there is no way of linking a submission to a specific user (think anonymous comments on a blog post or pastie). However, the user should have the ability to edit (at least in the short term) the content they have posted. The way I imagine doing this would be to place a unique identifier in a cookie on the users machine. This would enable me to link a submission to a user, and while that cookie remained on the users machine, I would allow them to edit their content. Of course, if the cookie is lost, or the user accesses the site from a different browser, then they would not be able to edit their content, but this is not really an issue, they can always resubmit a new piece of content. Is there a better way of doing this? How can I implement this so that the user can edit their data for the longest possible amount of time.

  I just received my copy of the Microsoft Silverlight 4 Data and Services Cookbook, co-authored by fellow Microsoft Regional Director, Gill Cleeren, and at first glance I like what I see. I’ve always been a fan of the “cookbook” approach to technical books because they are problem/solution oriented. Often developers need solutions to solve specific questions like “how do I send email from within my .NET application” and so on, and yes, that was a blatant plug to my article explaining how to accomplish just that, but I digress. :-) I also enjoy the cookbook approach because you can just start flipping pages and randomly stop somewhere and see what nugget of information is staring up at you from the page. Anyway, what I like about this book is that it focuses on a specific area of Silverlight development, accessing data and services.  The book is broken down into the following chapters: Chapter 1: Learning the Nuts and Bolts of Silverlight 4 Chapter 2: An Introduction to Data Binding Chapter 3: Advanced Data Binding Chapter 4: The Data Grid Chapter 5: The DataForm Chapter 6: Talking to Services Chapter 7: Talking to WCF and ASMX Services Chapter 8: Talking to REST and WCF Data Services Chapter 9: Talking to WCF RIA Services Chapter 10: Converting Your Existing Applications to Use Silverlight As you can see this book is all about working with Silverlight 4 and data. • Subdomain still times out after set up a month ago

  I'm a newbie on this and this has probably been asked already but the subjects online were close but too vague in there answers so I've probably really messed this up. I would really appreciate specific step by step instructions. This is what I'd like to do: use the subdomain www.high-res.domain.com to be accessed by external customers with specific permissions to access the site (like ftp). We use Network Solutions to house domain.com. We recently added a new ip address to point to www.high-res.domain.com. I gave the ip address to the company that hosts our website. I pinged www.high-res.domain.com and it points to the correct ip address but still times out. It’s been a few weeks now and when you ping it, it still times out. C:ping XXX.XXX.X.XXX Pinging XXX.XXX.X.XXX with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Request timed out. Ping statistics for XXX.XXX.X.XXX: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss). Tracert times out as well. I even went to DNS tools and a few other sites for checking this and it shows the same thing. I recently went into the DNSmgmt on our server (wink2k3sp1) and created an A record under the DomainDnsZones which translated to a Cname when you look at it. Under the Domain it has two entries one to the subdomain and the other to the website host each with separate ip addresses. Is this correct? The website people are too busy on another project to research it further and my friends haven't gotten back to me. Please help. Thanks KK

• Debian pure-ftpd, Restrict access

  I am running Debian Wheezy, with ISPConfig 3, plus ModSecurity and I would like to restrict access to ftp to specific IP(s) globally (not to specific ftp users only), that can be either 127.0.0.1 or one I would manually add later. I would also like to completely disable ftp access from the web, but allow only from ftp-client software (if that is possible). The idea of closing firewall ports is not what I want. I know I can do this setting some firewall rule though, but that is not what I currently need. I have managed to do this for example on phpmyadmin inside it's .conf file, but unfortunately I cannot find any configuration to alter for pure-ftpd in my system. Restricting web-ftp access maybe possible by adding some rule in apache2 conf, but I am not sure how to write such a rule. Thanks to everyone that can help cheers

• How do I set up different configurations on an Ubuntu laptop based on different physical locations?

  I'm looking for a way to have a couple (or three) multiple configurations set up on my laptop, and easily switch between them. To be more specific, when my laptop is at work, it's plugged into a second monitor, and has a specific set of networks configurations. At home, the second monitor is gone, the network configurations are different. At a public wireless point there are other configurations to set, etc. I know I can go into my preferences and turn on/turn off the monitor, and mess with the networking preferences, and so on, but I'm looking for a way to change a bunch of preferences all at once, and if it's possible to do that automatically, maybe based on the wireless APs in the vicinity, that would be even better.

  I am currently working on a challenge; basically using google api; I would search for facebook fan pages; most specifically the "about" timeline for the email add and the date the business was founded. So far I have come to this: site:facebook.com/pages + "business type" + "country" + "@email.com" I need to add something else so that it can give me back the date it was founded in. If you see the facebook fan page in the about section; there is for e.g (Founded 06/02/2010) The bracketed info above is what I need to add to succeed in adding; any idea?

• Displaying a Paged Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC

  This article demonstrates how to display a paged grid of data in an ASP.NET MVC application and builds upon the work done in two earlier articles: Displaying a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC and Sorting a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC. Displaying a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC started with creating a new ASP.NET MVC application in Visual Studio, then added the Northwind database to the project and showed how to use Microsoft's Linq-to-SQL tool to access data from the database. The article then looked at creating a Controller and View for displaying a list of product information (the Model). Sorting a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC enhanced the application by adding a view-specific Model (ProductGridModel) that provided the View with the sorted collection of products to display along with sort-related information, such as the name of the database column the products were sorted by and whether the products were sorted in ascending or descending order. The Sorting a Grid of Data in ASP.NET MVC article also walked through creating a partial view to render the grid's header row so that each column header was a link that, when clicked, sorted the grid by that column. In this article we enhance the view-specific Model (ProductGridModel) to include paging-related information to include the current page being viewed, how many records to show per page, and how many total records are being paged through. • crippling repeating "pciehp card not present" notifications

  When using ubuntu (12.04, both installed and on a live usb) I get a lot of these messages: pciehp 0000:00:1c.5:pcie04: Card not present on Slot(37) pciehp 0000:00:1c.5:pcie04: Card present on Slot(37) And with a lot I mean about 20 per second. This has a crippling effect, and I would like to get rid of it :) The computer is a packard bell easynote BG48-U-100 DC. I tip I picked up from some fedora/redhat error here was to look at lspci -vnn. I have pasted the part about "00:1c.5" here: http://pastebin.com/0sfsiqW2 For what good it may do, here is the lsmod of my machine: http://pastebin.com/DQZy1kAL From that first pastebin I think to conclude that it has to do with the module shpchp, which seems to me (aka: google) to have something to do with ACPI. That's as far as I've come in disecting this. Can anyone help me along further? What can I do, check etc? I did see this topic but my intentions are not to surpress the error message: I know how to do this (from that topic ;) ), but I'm looking for a real sollution. Finding the problem on the internet does suspect me to believe it is neither an ubuntu specific nor a packard-bell specific problem.If you google the problem it seems that is present on several other distribution/hardware combo's as well, and it looks like the advice is to remove one of the drivers? I have no clue as to which driver I should look at and and what would be the effect of just removing it. I have seen this topic which is old-ish, but describes my problem and is about a similar computer. The solution in this topic was to compile a new kernel using a spanish guide, which seems a bit extreme to me, so I'm kinda hoping for a better solution than that.

  I use to work for a major internet company that sold Dental Plans to customers through their large customer-driven websiteto consumers. They start tracking their users as soon as they hit their web servers, and then they log everything they can about the user. There are a lot of benefits for using session tracking for both the user and the website. Users can benefit from session tracking due to the fact that a website can retain pertaining information for the user so that they do not have to re-enter the same information repeatedly. In addition, websites can hold specific items in a cart for each user so that they can pay for all of their  items at once when they are ready to complete their purchases. Websites can also benefit from session tracking because they can determine where a specific user came from and which advertising partner gave them a sale. This information is very useful when deciding on where to spend an advertising budget. There is only one real disadvantage when it comes to session tracking, Users can not really control what is actually tracked by a website. Yes, they can disable cookies and this will help, but that means that no tracking can be done at all. Most sites require users to have cookies enabled in order for users to make purchases or login to their accounts.

• What is the current legal status of magnet links?

  Prelude: I develop a cloud service which could be described as dropbox meets torrents and as side effect it enables distribution of arbitrary content via magnet links. Certain amount of magnet links will be displayed on the main website (I will be able to remove them one-by-one or ban users but no more). I will not be able to avoid magnets without complete rework of overall project architecture and either way it will hurt overall performance badly, probably making service meaningless. So my question is, what should I do, to avoid legal problems if my site in a nutshell is just a collection of magnet links? Privacy achieved via end-user encryption, so there is almost no access restrictions on the website. And anyway will help me any? Will hosting in particular country help me?

• Multiple Selections from Dropdown in Word 2011 Form

  Anyone know if there is a way to setup a Word form to allow the user to select multiple items from a dropdown list that are then displayed? For example, I need to setup a form to identify applicability of specific procedures to various levels of our organization. Since the listing of all departments under all divisions can be pretty lengthy, I was hoping for the ability to check off a division and then have a dropdown list on the same line to select the applicable departments (so the selections are specific to that division and not all listed on the form if that division is not applicable). First, I'm not seeing how to create a dropdown that would allow multiple selections. Beyond that, I don't know if that form element alone would then display all selected items or if that would require another element of some type. Anyone have any suggestions on this? • Java SE 8 (with JavaFX) Developer Preview Release for ARM

  In an effort to get ARM developers testing Java SE 8 before the scheduled release later this year a Java SE 8 Developer Preview Release for ARM has been made available. This release has been tested on the Raspberry PI but should work on other ARM platforms. In addition to the new Java SE features, this release provides specific support of hard float GPU on the Raspberry PI. The support for hard float GPU has been anticipated by a number of developers. Additionally, this release includes support of an optimized JavaFX. Specific configurations of JDK 8 on ARM are defined below: Java FX is supported on ARM architecture v6/7 (hard float) Supported platforms without Java FX: ARM architecture v6/7 (hard float) ARM architecture v7 (VFP, little endian) ARM architecture v5 (soft float, little endian) Linux x86 The download page includes setup instructions for a Raspberry PI device as well as demos and samples. • How can I refactor a code base while others rapidly commit to it?

  I'm on a private project that eventually will become open source. We have a few team members, talented enough with the technologies to build apps, but not dedicated developers who can write clean/beautiful and most importantly long-term maintainable code. I've set out to refactor the code base, but it's a bit unwieldy as someone in the team out in another country I'm not in regular contact with could be updating this totally separate thing. I know one solution is to communicate rapidly or adopt better PM practices, but we're just not that big yet. I just want to clean up the code and merge nicely into what he has updated. Would a branch be a suitable plan? A best-effort-merge? Something else?

• Sharding / indexing strategy for multi-faceted search

  I'm currently thinking about our database structure and how we modify it for scale. Specifically, we're thinking about using ElasticSearch to provide our search functionality. One common pattern with ElasticSearch seems to be the 'user-routing' pattern; that is, using routing to ensure that any one user's data resides on the same shard. This is great for client-specific search e.g. Gmail. Our application has a constraint such that any user will have a maximum of a few thousand documents, so this pattern seems like a good candidate. However, our search needs to work across all users, as well as targeting a specific user (so I might search my content, Alice's content, or all content). Similarly, we need to provide full-text search across any timeframe; recent months to several years ago. I'm thinking of combining the 'user-routing' and 'index-per-time-interval' patterns: I create an index for each month By default, searches are aliased against the most recent X months If no results are found, we can search against previous X months As we grow, we can reduce the interval X Each document is routed by the user ID So, this should let us do the following: search by user. This will search all indeces across 1 shard search by time. This will search ~2 indeces (by default) across all shards Is this a reasonable approach, considering we may scale to multi-million+ documents? Or should I be denormalizing the data somehow, so that user searches are performed on a totally seperate index from date searches? Thanks for any pros-cons of the above scenario.
