  • Use eval to set unknown property in Python

    I have an User class, that has multiple properties inside it, and I also have addPoint method for User class, which allows user to input points into any of it's properties. However, there can be up to like 500 properties, everyone can have different ones, etc. So it would be a pain in the ass to code every property with "if: - elif:". Now this is what I tried to do, to make it much easier and cleaner: class User: def __init__(self): self.health = 0 self.speed = 0 def addPoint(self, property, amount): eval("self."+property) = eval("self."+property) + amount And now when I'd do fe. u = User() u.addPoint("health", 5) I would like it to do this: self.health = self.health + 5, and that's what I used the eval()s for. However, Python's just giving me error: can't assign to function call. I'm not trying to assign the eval() function call itself, I'm trying to assign the returned value from eval(), so how could I do this the easiest way?

How can I create a single list containing all the possible permutations: For example [ [ a, b, c], [d], [e, f] ] I want [ [a, d, e] , [a, d, f], [b, d, e], [b, d, f], [c, d, e], [c, d, f] ] Note I don't know n in advance. I thought itertools.product would be the right approach but it requires me to know the number of arguments in advance

  • wcf trying to set up tracing to debug, not writing to log file

    here's my web.config, running a WCF service in an application on IIS7, but nothing is being written to the specified file. permission on the file has been granted for everyone. </listeners> I can add a service reference just fine. I then try to call the service from a windows app and, after a few minutes, get an error on the machine running the windows app "Client is unable to finish the security negotiation within the configured timeout (00:00:00). The current negotiation leg is 1 (00:00:00)." but absolutely nothing is written to the trace log file specified in config. Is there something else I need to do to enable tracing? thanks for your help EDIT: "sources" section now matches the section recommended here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa702726.aspx I've added the "diagnostics and the event viewer shows: "Message Logging has been turned on.   • Submit button not focused even though tabindex is properly set

    Hello, I have defined tabindex for the input fields in a form. When tabbing through the input fields the submit button is never getting the focus, some other input fields in a different form on the page gets the focus. Those are all having tabindexes higher than 3.   • Ordering recursive result set in SQL Server

    I am having extreme difficulty constructing a query which returns an XML style hierarchy. We have a database table which contains a hierarchy of URLs for our website. The table contains the columns: ID, URL, DisplayName, ParentID, ItemOrder The parent ID forms a recursive relationship between the current item and it's parent. The item should site below it's parent in the hierarchy and it should also be ordered using the item order against items at the same level in the hierarchy. I have managed to get a recursive query working so it drills down the hierarchy sequentially but I cannot order this by the item order as well. My current query is below: WITH Parents AS ( SELECT MenuItemId, URL, ParentItemId, ItemOrder FROM CambsMenu UNION ALL SELECT si.MenuItemId, si.URL, si.ParentItemId, si.ItemOrder FROM CambsMenu si INNER JOIN Parents p ON si.ParentItemId = p.MenuItemId ) SELECT DISTINCT * FROM Parents

    I was going through Nicholas Zakas presentation on JavaScript here : http://www.slideshare.net/nzakas/writing-efficient-javascript (slide number: 89/139) He recommends using cssText property whenever you are setting a bunch of styles through JavaScript. The best solution is obviously adding those styles to a class and then using JS to add the classname to an element.However, in many situations, We resort to just setting the properties directly within JS when the number of properties are low. It seems from his presentation that using cssText property would be more efficient in such scenarios.I tried to look up more on the property but couldn't find much information. Has anyone used the 'cssText' property ? It would be great to have some more technical info on how the property helps.

    Hello all. I am implementing a UDP data transfer thing. I have several questions about UDP buffer. I am using UDPClient to do the UDP send / receive. and my broadband bandwidth is 150KB/s (bytes/s, not bps). I send out a 500B datagram out to 27 hosts 27 hosts send back 10KB datagram back if they receive. So, I should receive 27 responses, right? however, I only get averagely 8 - 12 instead. I then tried to reduce the size of the response down to 500B, yes, I receive all. A thought of mine is that if all 27 hosts send back 10KB response at almost same time, the incoming traffic will be 270KB/s (likely), that exceeds my incoming bandwidth so loss happens. Am I right? But I think even if the incoming traffic exceeds the bandwidth, is the Windows supposed to put the datagram in the buffer and wait for receive? I then suspect that maybe the ReceiveBufferSize of my UdpClient is too small? by default, it is 8092B?? I don't know whether I am all right at these points. Please give me some help.

    Is this faster: $(document.links).filter('a.someClass') than just plain old this: $('a.someClass') ? I don't see anywhere in jQuery's code the utilization of document.links which gives you the collection of links on the document right away, than, it would seem, it would be faster to just filter in the collection instead of all the DOM nodes, which is alot more nodes to go over.
